I can see why they are not doing well. Went into the Birmingham store today and they hadn't put any new releases out and it was 12.30pm. When I enquired about Avrils new album they said they have a lot of stock out the back to get through and to try again tomorrow

tbf that's because they've been in administration, new stock had been few and far between in HMV stores until now when it's obviously flowing through.

When I enquired about Avrils new album they said they have a lot of stock out the back to get through and to try again tomorrow They had no deliveries for 1+ month whilst in administration and new supplier terms had to be agreed before they got new stock, now that has been sorted they are getting huge deliveries in - all should be back to normal in a few days. |

I work at hmv, we were told that we weren’t getting any Warner supplied releases (Avril, Avantasia) until Monday so I imagine that’s the same nationwide.

Well, the HMV Meadowhall was one of the ones that should have been closing.. and did close down a a few days ago.. it opened this morning. Think the same thing has happened with a few other stores around the country?

Yeah they do seem to be re-opening some of their closed stores. They must of successfully renegotiated the rent costs.

I guess these re-openings show the owners last time were useless. If a store closing for a few days can drive down the rent surely they could have negotiated lower rates with the threat of closure for these stores.
Still it is good news for physical music. |

The last owners were only in it to make some quick money. |

The Tunbridge Wells store is back open this morning according to HMV Tweets. Top marks to them for working on re-opening the closed stores instead of walking away!

Belfast's HMV store is once again under threat just over a month after it was taken over by Canadian music retailer Sunrise Records.
The Donegall Arcade outlet was included in the portfolio of shops sold as part of a rescue deal with Doug Putman's firm at the start of February. But the Belfast Telegraph now understands that the potential closure of the last HMV in Northern Ireland is not linked to the music chain's administration, but instead stems from a failure to agree new terms with Donegall Arcade's landlord, Sports Direct. Just weeks after heaving a sigh of relief when Sunrise rescued their jobs, staff at HMV were yesterday left to erect prominent closing down signs in the windows of the city centre premises. Announcing to customers that 'Everything must go', staff informed shoppers that the store is earmarked for closure on April 28, or sooner if all the stock is sold. At this stage it appears unlikely that HMV will seek another premises in Belfast. |

Suppose we should be glad Sports Direct didn't buy the whole chain then.

I’m guessing that HMV have had a terrible trading period in the lead up to Christmas
They have announced the following stores are closing in January - Leeds, Grimsby, Plymouth, Worcester, Bury St Edmonds & Glasgow (Fopp). This post has been edited by ___∆___: 29th December 2019, 11:55 AM |

I was in HMV yesterday (Chester) hoping to get some vinyl but there was nothing I wanted in the sale unfortunately.
In fact the dvds and blu rays literally looked like a jumble sale. |

I find the same it's like an old brick a brac store nowadays. Haven't been to the sales yet but there was never a huge amount in it over Xmas, compared to 10-15 years ago when you wouldn't be able to move in the month before Xmas
