Biography

Samuel Frederick Smith (born 19 May 1992) is an English singer and songwriter who rose to fame in October 2012 after being featured on Disclosure's breakthrough single "Latch", which peaked at number eleven on the UK Singles Chart. Their subsequent feature—on Naughty Boy's "La La La"— became a number one single in May 2013. In December 2013, Smith was nominated for the 2014 Brit Critics' Choice Award and the BBC's Sound of 2014 poll, winning both.

Smith's debut studio album, In the Lonely Hour, was released in May 2014 on Capitol Records UK. The album's lead single, "Lay Me Down", was released prior to "La La La". The album's second single, "Money on My Mind", became Smith's second number one single in the UK. The album's third single, "Stay with Me", was an international success, reaching number one in the UK and number two on the US Billboard Hot 100, while the fourth single "I'm Not the Only One" reached the top five in both countries. The fifth single, "Like I Can", reached number nine in the United Kingdom. They made their United States debut on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, followed by a performance on Saturday Night Live in March 2014.

In December 2014, Smith was nominated for six Grammy Awards, and at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards in February 2015 they won four: Best New Artist, "Stay with Me" for Record of the Year and Song of the Year, and In the Lonely Hour for Best Pop Vocal Album. At the 2015 Brit Awards, they won the awards for British Breakthrough Act and Global Success. At the 2015 Billboard Music Awards, Smith received three Billboard Awards: Top Male Artist, Top New Artist, and Top Radio Songs Artist. Their musical achievements have also led them to be mentioned twice in the Guinness World Records.

For their and Jimmy Napes' song "Writing's on the Wall", the theme for the James Bond film Spectre (2015), Smith won the Golden Globe Award and the Academy Award for Best Original Song. Their second studio album, The Thrill of It All, was released in November 2017, and debuted atop the UK Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200. The lead single, "Too Good at Goodbyes", reached number one in the UK and Australia and number four in the US.

Martin Garrix and Dean Lewis
Used To Love

Non-album single
Released: 31st October 2019
Label: STMPD RCRDS

Biography

Martin Garrix
Few DJs have risen faster than Martin Garrix. In 2013, when he was just 16, the Dutch dance-music fan (born Martijn Garritsen in May 1996) paid for his ticket to Miami’s Ultra Music Festival, along with 330,000 other attendees; the following year, he performed there—and also at Coachella, Electric Daisy Carnival, and Tomorrowland. The catalyst was his breakout hit, “Animals,” an electro-house anthem that sent shockwaves through EDM, setting the tone for several years’ worth of big-room bangers. (It also got the attention of Justin Bieber manager Scooter Braun, who scooped up the teenaged producer for his roster.) By the time Garrix was 20, DJ Magazine named him the world’s No. 1 DJ. Since then, he has straddled dance cred and pop crossover, collaborating with fellow DJs Dillon Francis, Hardwell, and Tiësto (Garrix's mentor and early champion) as well as Usher, Ed Sheeran, and Dua Lipa. He’s come a long way from the savagery of “Animals”: One of his signature moves, in songs like “In the Name of Love,” with Bebe Rexha, or “Ocean,” with Khalid, is something like the EDM equivalent of the power ballad: taking a silky, sensitive mood and building up the synths and drums until they sound all but indestructible. - iTunes

Dean Lewis
For a while there, singer-songwriter Dean Lewis could have been lost to the gaming world. In 2005, he represented Australia playing Halo 2 at the World Cyber Games in Singapore–and finished fifth. But after developing an obsession with Oasis, he secreted himself in his room with his acoustic guitar. Born in Sydney in 1987, Lewis first took up the instrument at his father's urging at age 12, but only started to take it seriously in his late teens. “I spent all these years in my bedroom not thinking I was good enough,” Lewis told Apple Music. “It took a lot of people to say, ‘Oh, you’re good enough to do it.’” One of those people was Savage Garden’s former manager, whom Lewis met at a boat party via a mutual friend. Upon hearing Lewis’ music, she helped land him a publishing deal. Hundreds of songs later—some of which went to artists such as Australian singer Taylor Henderson—Lewis released his debut single, “Waves”, in 2016. Imbued with James Blunt’s vocal vulnerability and Chris Martin’s knack for turning the everyday into a sweeping, affecting, relatable tune, “Waves” is a rumination on life becoming less exciting as you age. And it showcased his ability to land a killer blow in one line: “I watched my wild youth disappear in front of my eyes.” “That really personal style of writing is something I got from Bruce Springsteen,” he said. It’s on full display on his debut album, 2019’s A Place We Knew–the follow-up to his 2017 EP Same Kind of Different. Songs such as “7 Minutes” and “Be Alright” combine personal heartbreak with melodic, contemporary soft rock. “Ninety percent of the things I sing about are things that have happened to me,” he offers. “That’s how the songs connect.” - iTunes

They'd have to find some way of getting around the 'she takes it up the...' line first I guess, that's probably why it wasn't played on Sunday.

Capital played it the same night in the Big Top 40! That particular line was simply edited to "she takes it ________", so an edit does exist!

Biography

Halsey is the alias of New York-based pop artist Ashley Frangipane. The New Jersey native took her moniker from a New York L train subway stop, and her adopted city plays a large role in both the sound and lyrics of her dark, gritty electropop, which has been compared to acts like Chvrches and Lorde. Based on the strength of her first single, "Ghost," she signed a deal with Capitol-owned electronic/dance label Astralwerks in early 2014. Her debut EP, Room 93, arrived in October of that same year.

In 2015, Halsey released her debut full-length album, Badlands, which featured production from Lido, the Futuristics, Son Lux, and others. Included on the album were the singles "Ghost," "New Americana," "Colors," and "Castle," a version of which also appeared on the soundtrack to The Huntsman: Winter's War. Badlands debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart and sold well, ultimately achieving gold certification status. In January 2017, Halsey returned with the single "Not Afraid Anymore," which was featured on the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack.

Three months later, she released "Now or Never," the first single from her sophomore album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom. Featuring collaborations with Sia, Greg Kurstin, and Benny Blanco, the LP appeared in June 2017 and topped the Billboard 200. A remix of the LP's dark pop single "Alone," featuring Big Sean and Stefflon Don, arrived in March 2018. Later that year, she featured on Blanco's solo single "Eastside" alongside singer Khalid. The track became a Hot 100 hit and added to a late-year boost with her features in Teen Titans Go! To the Movies (voicing Wonder Woman) and A Star Is Born. A single, "Without Me," arrived in September.

Graveyard's drop last week looks very peculiar! It's a pretty decent song but she's yet to get anywhere near Without Me with the solo material that followed for me.

Biography

Selena Marie Gomez (born July 22, 1992) is an American singer, songwriter, actress and executive producer. After appearing on the children's series Barney & Friends (2002–2004), she received wider recognition for her portrayal of Alex Russo on the Emmy Award-winning Disney Channel television series Wizards of Waverly Place, which aired from 2007 until 2012. Gomez also starred in the films Another Cinderella Story (2008), Princess Protection Program (2009), Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie (2009), Ramona and Beezus (2010), and Monte Carlo (2011). Thereafter, she focused on more mature roles in Spring Breakers (2012), Getaway (2013), The Fundamentals of Caring (2016), and The Dead Don't Die (2019). She voices the character of Mavis in the Hotel Transylvania film franchise, and serves as an executive producer of the Netflix television drama series 13 Reasons Why (2017–present) and the Netflix documentary series Living Undocumented (2019).

With her former band Selena Gomez & the Scene, she attained the gold certified top-ten albums Kiss & Tell (2009), A Year Without Rain (2010) and When the Sun Goes Down (2011) on the US Billboard 200, and produced top-thirty songs like "Naturally" and "Love You like a Love Song". In 2012, the band went on hiatus, and Gomez focused work on her debut album as a solo artist. The pop and dance influenced Stars Dance (2013) became her first number-one album on the Billboard 200, and included "Come & Get It", which became her first top-ten entry on the US Billboard Hot 100. To finish out her contract with Hollywood Records, she released the compilation album For You (2014). It included the single "The Heart Wants What It Wants", which became her second top-ten entry.

After signing with Interscope Records in late 2014, she released her second studio album, Revival (2015). It became her second consecutive number-one regular album on the Billboard 200, with the highest first week sales of her career. The album was well-received by music critics, who praised the album's production and lyrical content. The first three singles, "Good for You" with ASAP Rocky, "Same Old Love", and "Hands to Myself", all became top-ten entries on the Billboard Hot 100, and reached number one on the Mainstream Top 40 chart. Revival was her first album to achieve platinum status in the US. Since then, she has experimented with different sounds on the singles "Bad Liar" and "Fetish" with Gucci Mane, and has featured on several collaborations, including "We Don't Talk Anymore" with Charlie Puth, "It Ain't Me" with Kygo, "Wolves" with Marshmello, and "Taki Taki" with DJ Snake.

In 2017, Billboard reported that Gomez has sold over 7 million albums and 22 million singles worldwide. Gomez has earned numerous awards throughout her career, and was recognized as the Billboard Woman of the Year in 2017. Biography

A self-described "Celtic soul" trio, the Script were founded by guitarist Mark Sheehan and vocalist Danny O'Donoghue in 2007. The two musicians had previously performed together in Mytown, an Irish-based boy band that enjoyed moderate success at home but failed to generate international acclaim. After the group disbanded, Sheehan and O'Donoghue spent several years in Los Angeles, where they worked as producers alongside the likes of Teddy Riley, the Neptunes, and Rodney Jerkins. They later relocated to Dublin and recruited Glen Power as their drummer, trading promising careers in production for a blend of contemporary R&B and polished, anthemic pop/rock.

Forging a unique sound based on a diverse list of influences (including U2, the Neptunes, Timbaland, and Van Morrison), the Script saw their debut single, "We Cry," receive heavy airplay in both Ireland and Britain, as well as a nod from the influential BBC Radio DJ Jo Whiley. After signing with Phonogenic Records, the group relocated to London and scheduled both a debut album and an appearance at the Glastonbury Festival for summer 2008. Their eponymous debut album proved to be a meteoric success, topping the charts in multiple countries and establishing the Script as 2008's most popular newcomers. The buzz carried through to 2009, when Paul McCartney and U2 both enlisted the band to open several sold-out shows.

The Script's sophomore effort, Science & Faith, followed in September of 2010, extending their global reach further by hitting the Top Five in both Australia and the U.S., but also reaching the number one spot in both the U.K. and Ireland, just as their debut had done. Summer 2011 brought packed arena shows in South Africa, but also saw them play to 55,000 people at a headline show in Dublin, a performance that was later released as the concert film Homecoming.

During the first half of 2012, O'Donoghue further raised the profile of the band when he appeared as a judge alongside Tom Jones, Jessie J, and will.i.am on BBC1's prime-time talent show The Voice UK. That year, the Script released their third studio album, #3 -- recorded in Studio 3, Sphere Studios, Battersea -- which included the single "Hall of Fame," featuring will.i.am. The album maintained their international commercial appeal, cracking the Top Ten in the Netherlands and reaching number 13 in the U.S., while the single became their most successful to date, reaching the Top Ten in no fewer than 21 countries.

Spring 2013 brought a U.K. arena tour -- which had sold out in a week the previous September -- before the band returned to the studio to demo new material. Inventively, the Script also brought Jamie Scallion's fictional band, the RockAteers, to life that year. They recorded and streamed online their interpretations of the songs mentioned in the Officer Kicks frontman's series of novels for young adults, The Rock 'n' Roll Diaries. When 2014 came around, Sheehan, O'Donoghue, and Power began to prepare for a number of large U.S. summer shows alongside Colorado's OneRepublic. The Script also released their fourth studio album, No Sound Without Silence, featuring the single "Superheroes." After a brief break, the Script returned in 2017 with "Divided States of America," "Written in the Scars," and "Rain," the first singles from their fifth LP, Freedom Child.

Biography

Summer Walker isn’t big on diaries or therapy. Instead, the low-key R&B powerhouse finds solace in the studio, where angst, lust, and self-doubt morph into mesmerizing confessionals. For Walker, putting it all out there is healing: “Pro Tools sessions are my diary pages,” she tells Apple Music in Up Next: Summer Walker, the documentary film about her ascent. “That’s why a lot of my songs are emotional.” As a child growing up in Atlanta (where she was born in 1996), Walker would wait until her mom went to bed before going into the bathroom to record videos of herself singing songs and playing guitar. When she posted those clips on social media, the reaction was immediate—she had something. Her songwriting style—which she explored on her first two releases, Last Day of Summer and CLEAR—is both mysterious and bare-bones; the more she reveals about her heart and mind, the more captivating she becomes. “I don’t really need the pain/But I love to feel the pain,” she admits on “Deep,” a song that wrestles to distinguish between sex and love. To listen is to witness Walker working it all out in real time. - iTunes

Biography

Kygo
Kygo turned the dance-music world on its ear in the simplest way possible: by slowing down. The Norwegian producer (born Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll in 1991) cut his teeth crafting bootleg remixes of songs like Lana Del Rey’s “Born to Die” and James Blake’s “The Wilhelm Scream”, fleshing out the originals with contrasting touches: EDM drops inspired by his fondness for Avicii and ruminative melodies reflective of his childhood piano studies. In 2013, layering an a cappella of Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing” over dancing marimbas and a teasingly measured 4/4 beat, he hit upon his slow-motion signature. The following year, he was called up to replace an ailing Avicii on Tomorrowland’s main stage, and his relaxed, sunny vibe stopped EDM’s harder-faster-louder ethos in its tracks. Kygo’s dreamy, pioneering tropical house—encapsulated in singles like the lilting “Firestone” and his even-more-weightless remix of a-ha’s “Take On Me”—cast its influence across the pop music landscape, reaching as far as Skrillex, Diplo and Justin Bieber’s smash, “Where Are Ü Now”, and securing Kygo collabs with Selena Gomez, Ellie Goulding, Miguel and Imagine Dragons. - iTunes

Whitney Houston
Whitney Elizabeth Houston (August 9, 1963 – February 11, 2012) was an American singer and actress. She was cited as the most awarded female artist of all time by Guinness World Records and remains one of the best-selling music artists of all time with 200 million records sold worldwide. She released seven studio albums and two soundtrack albums, all of which have been certified diamond, multi-platinum, platinum, or gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Houston's crossover appeal on the popular music charts—as well as her prominence on MTV, starting with her video for "How Will I Know"—influenced several African-American women artists who followed in her footsteps.

Houston began singing in church as a child and became a background vocalist while in high school. With the guidance of Arista Records chairman Clive Davis, she signed to the label at the age of 19. Her first two studio albums, Whitney Houston (1985) and Whitney (1987), both reached number one on the Billboard 200 in the United States and became two of the world's best-selling albums of all time. She became the only artist to have seven consecutive number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, from "Saving All My Love for You" in 1985 to "Where Do Broken Hearts Go" in 1988.

Houston made her screen acting debut in the romantic thriller film The Bodyguard (1992). She recorded seven songs for the film's soundtrack, including "I Will Always Love You", which received the Grammy Award for Record of the Year and became the best-selling single by a woman in music history. The soundtrack album received the Grammy Award for Album of the Year and remains the world's best-selling soundtrack album of all time. Houston made other high-profile film appearances, including Waiting to Exhale (1995) and The Preacher's Wife (1996). The theme song "Exhale (Shoop Shoop)" became her eleventh and final number-one single on the Hot 100 chart, while The Preacher Wife's soundtrack became the best-selling gospel album in history.

Following the critical and commercial success of My Love Is Your Love (1998), Houston signed a $100 million contract with Arista Records. However, her personal struggles began overshadowing her career, and the album Just Whitney (2002) received mixed reviews. Her drug use and tumultuous marriage to Bobby Brown were widely publicized in media. After a six-year break from recording, Houston returned to the top of the Billboard 200 chart with her final studio album, I Look to You (2009).

On February 11, 2012, Houston was found dead in the Beverly Hilton, Beverly Hills, California. The coroner's report showed that she had accidentally drowned in the bathtub, with heart disease and cocaine use as contributing factors. News of her death coincided with the 2012 Grammy Awards, at which she was originally scheduled to perform, and featured prominently in international media.

Biography

Edward Christopher Sheeran, MBE (/ˈʃɪərən/; born 17 February 1991) is an English singer-songwriter, guitarist, record producer, and actor. He attended the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford as an undergraduate from the age of 18 in 2009. In early 2011, Sheeran independently released the extended play, No. 5 Collaborations Project. After signing with Asylum Records, his debut album, + (pronounced "plus"), was released in September 2011. It topped the UK and Australian charts, reached number five in the US, and has since been certified seven-times platinum in the UK. The album contains the single "The A Team", which earned him the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically. In 2012, Sheeran won the Brit Awards for Best British Male Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act. "The A Team" was nominated for Song of the Year at the 2013 Grammy Awards, where he performed the song with Elton John.

His second studio album, x (pronounced "multiply"), was released in June 2014. It peaked at number one in the UK and the US, and was named the second-best-selling album worldwide of 2015. In 2015, x won the Brit Award for Album of the Year, and he received the Ivor Novello Award for Songwriter of the Year from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors. His single from x, "Thinking Out Loud", earned him two Grammy Awards at the 2016 ceremony: Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.

Sheeran's third album, ÷ (pronounced "divide"), was released in March 2017. The album debuted at number one in the UK, the US and other major markets, and was the best-selling album worldwide of 2017. The first two singles from the album, "Shape of You" and "Castle on the Hill", were released in January 2017 and broke records in a number of countries, including the UK, Australia and Germany, by debuting in the top two positions of the charts. He also became the first artist to have two songs debut in the US top 10 in the same week. By March 2017, Sheeran had accumulated ten top 10 singles from ÷ on the UK Singles Chart, breaking the record for most top 10 UK singles from one album. His fourth single from ÷, "Perfect", reached number one in the US, Australia and the UK, where it became the Christmas number one in 2017.

Sheeran has sold more than 150 million records worldwide, making him one of the world's best-selling music artists. Two of his albums are in the list of the best-selling albums in UK chart history: x at number 20, and ÷ at number 34. Beginning in March 2017, his ÷ Tour is the highest-grossing of all time by a solo artist. An alumnus of the National Youth Theatre in London, as an actor Sheeran has portrayed a recurring role on The bast*rd Executioner, and in 2019, he appeared in the Richard Curtis/Danny Boyle film Yesterday.

Biography

Coldplay are a British rock band formed in London in 1996. The four members – comprising lead vocalist/pianist Chris Martin, lead guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion – were at University College London and came together from 1996 to 1998. During these two years, the band changed names from Pectoralz, to Starfish, and finally, to Coldplay. Creative director and former manager Phil Harvey is often referred to as the fifth member by the band. They recorded and released two EPs: Safety in 1998 and The Blue Room in 1999. The latter was their first release on a major label, after signing to Parlophone.

Coldplay achieved worldwide fame with the release of the song "Yellow" in 2000, followed in the same year by their debut album Parachutes, which was nominated for the Mercury Prize. The band's second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002), was released to critical acclaim and won many awards, including NME's Album of the Year. Their next release, X&Y, the best-selling album worldwide in 2005, received mostly positive reviews, though some critics felt it was inferior to its predecessor. Their fourth studio album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (2008), the best-selling album worldwide of 2008, was produced by Brian Eno and released to largely positive reviews, earning three Grammy Awards. In October 2011, Coldplay released their fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto, which topped the charts in over 34 countries, was the UK's best-selling rock album of 2011, and received moderately positive reviews. Their sixth album, Ghost Stories, released in 2014, received mixed reviews and topped several national album charts. The following year the band released their seventh album, A Head Full of Dreams, which reached the top two in most major markets, but received generally mixed reviews.

Coldplay have won numerous awards throughout their career, including nine Brit Awards, six MTV Video Music Awards, seven MTV Europe Music Awards and seven Grammy Awards from 29 nominations. They have sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making them one of the world's best-selling music artists. Three of their albums: Parachutes, A Rush of Blood to the Head and X&Y are among the best-selling albums in UK chart history. In December 2009, Rolling Stone readers voted the group the fourth-best artist of the 2000s. Coldplay have supported various social and political causes, such as Oxfam's Make Trade Fair campaign and Amnesty International. They have also performed at charity projects, including Band Aid 20, Live 8, Global Citizen Festival, Sound Relief, Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief, One Love Manchester, The Secret Policeman's Ball, Sport Relief and the UK Teenage Cancer Trust.

Biography

AJ Tracey
West London grime MC Che Wolton Grant (aka AJ Tracey) rose through the ranks of pirate radio, becoming one of the leading figures in U.K. grime's second generation of artists. Grant knew from a young age that he wanted to pursue a career in music, due in part to his parents; not only was his dad a former rapper from Trinidad & Tobago, his mother was a former drum'n'bass DJ from Wales. By age six, Grant had started writing rhymes, coinciding with the first great boom in grime. Although the genre temporarily lost its way, Grant soldiered on, unwilling to give up on his passion for grime. By the time he had reached his early twenties, grime had started another upswing. During this time Grant became proactive in his pursuit of radio spots, working his way up through pirate radio before scoring appearances on Rinse.DM, NTS, and eventually even BBC Radio One. With his reputation in the world of radio firmly cemented, Grant released a string of EPs, beginning with The Front EP in July 2015, followed by the Alex Moran EP later the same year. In 2016, he further solidified his status as an emerging talent, with a combination of solid collaborations, more radio appearances, and the release of the Lil Tracey EP. The end of 2016 culminated with Grant's nomination on BBC's Sound of 2017. - iTunes

Skepta
A veteran of the U.K. grime scene, MC, producer, and record-label owner Skepta was influential in the genre's shift from the underground to the pop charts, as well as its creative and commercial resurgence during the mid-2010s. Born Joseph Junior Adenuga to Nigerian parents, Skepta moved to Tottenham with his family at the age of three. Inspired by both U.S. and U.K. hip-hop, he started his music career appearing on the pirate radio circuit and performing at various MC battles. In 2005, he formed the grime label Boy Better Know with brother J.M.E. and Wiley, and a year later joined East London collective Roll Deep, although he left the following year to concentrate on Boy Better Know and his solo career. He released his first two albums, Greatest Hits and Microphone Champion, through his label before signing with All Around the World Records in 2010. In the same year, he reached the Top 40 with "Bad Boy" (number 26) and "Rescue Me" (number 14), supported Chipmunk on his U.K. tour, and was personally selected by P. Diddy to record a grime remix of "Hello Good Morning" after being recommended by his Twitter followers. His third album, Doin' It Again, featuring the Top 40-charting single "Cross My Heart," was released at the beginning of 2011, subsequently peaking at number 19 on the U.K. album chart.

In 2012, Skepta released two singles ("Hold On" and the C+C Music Factory-sampling "Make Peace Not War") that took his sound in a more commercially minded direction. Both songs hit the Top 30 of the U.K. singles chart, and were intended to be the leadoff singles to an album titled The Honeymoon, but the disappointing reaction from fans led to the album being scrapped, and a mixtape titled Blacklisted was released at the end of the year in its place. After keeping a low profile in 2013, Skepta came back in a big way the following year. He contributed a verse to a remix of "German Whip" by Meridian Dan, which became a Top 20 hit in May 2014. The following month, Skepta's single "That's Not Me" (which featured a guest verse by J.M.E.) was released, hitting number 21 on the charts. Both tracks were praised as helping to revitalize grime, and the latter was eventually named track of the year by FACT Magazine. Skepta's early 2015 single "Shutdown" was another U.K. Top 40 hit, and the MC received attention from Drake and Kanye West, joining the latter on-stage during the BRIT Awards. Skepta made his acting debut with a role in the 2015 crime drama Anti-Social, and worked on his long-delayed album Konnichiwa. The album was finally released by Boy Better Know in May of 2016, featuring guest appearances from Wiley, Pharrell Williams, and Novelist, in addition to his previous two hit singles. It debuted at number two on the British charts and earned vast critical acclaim, including the prestigious Mercury Prize. It was followed in 2017 with the Vicious EP, a short burst of six songs that featured appearances by Lil B, Section Boyz, and A$AP Rocky and A$AP Nast. The next year, Skepta teamed up with Goldie for the collaborative single "Upstart" b/w "Poisonous Darts." He followed with "Sheevita Juice" and "Pure Water."

Biography

M Huncho
North-west London's anonymous, balaclava-wearing rapper M Huncho produced a woozy, trippy style of rap he called "trapwave," with lyrics authentically reflecting his life on the streets. After making a name for himself on the local scene, he burst out in April 2017 when he appeared on the web show Mad About Bars, in which a different rapper was asked to come on each week and do a freestyle. Fans of the show immediately pronounced Huncho's one of the best there had ever been, and his reputation was secured. His debut EP, Get Out, arrived that October, with the single "Mediocre" and another EP, 48 Hours, following in 2018. - iTunes

Nafe Smallz
Raised in the British town of Luton, some 30 miles northwest of London, Nafe Smallz started making a name for himself in the underground U.K. rap and grime scene in 2013 after the release of his first mixtape, New Year's Eve Special. A slew of online-only tracks appeared over the next year before he dropped his second mixtape, Ozone Music, in 2015. The following year Smallz was invited to perform a session on Charlie Sloth's influential Fire in the Booth series before rounding out the year opening for Skepta at his Alexandra Palace show. Smallz released a handful of tracks in 2017, including the woozy single Gucci, which arrived in December of that year. Wanna Know Ya followed at the beginning of 2018, before Smallz issued his third mixtape, Movie Music, featuring a number of guest collaborations with the likes of Stefflon Don, Chip, and Yung Fume. - iTunes

It was certified Platinum in the United States. With the EP, Bieber became the first artist to have seven songs from a debut record chart on the US Billboard Hot 100. Bieber released his first studio album, My World 2.0, in 2010. It debuted at number one in several countries, was certified triple Platinum in the US, and contained his single "Baby", which debuted at number five on the Billboard Hot 100 and sold 12 million units.

Biography

Krept & Konan
The organic, wordy, and literate hip-hop created by Casyo "Krept" Johnson and Karl "Konan" Wilson -- aka South London duo Krept & Konan -- had slipped into the mainstream in a relatively natural and gradual way by 2013. Formed in 2009, the pair eschewed the traditional quest for major-label interest, concentrating instead on spreading the word via social media, and eventually via their own label and clothing line, Play Dirty. It was a 2010 mixtape titled Tsunami that initially turned the heads of a significant number of people, before their cover of Jay-Z and Kanye West's "Otis" racked up millions of YouTube views in less than a week in early 2011. When a gunman burst into Konan's mother's home that summer, injuring her and fatally shooting his stepfather, the duo subsequently dealt with the incident in the autobiographical "My Story." Later that year, the Tottenham-born grime artist Skepta invited them to open for him in Glasgow. Although this was effectively Krept & Konan's first gig, it cemented a relationship between the three, and Skepta continued to promote their music online, as did such luminaries of the U.K. scene as Wretch 32 and Professor Green.

Momentum was built by way of holding off the official release of any further material until the September 2013 mixtape Young Kingz surfaced. The album managed to reach the U.K. Top 20 with an almost nonexistent marketing budget, and featured appearances from artists such as Giggs, Chip, and Tinie Tempah. A year later the group signed with Def Jam, and released The Long Way Home on the label in 2015. The album featured guest spots from Ed Sheeran, Rick Ross, and Wiz Khalifa, and debuted at number two on the U.K. albums chart. The duo returned in 2017 with two simultaneously released mixtapes. 7 Days was the more club oriented of the two, and featured guest spots from Skepta and Stormzy; 7 Nights had more of an R&B flavor and featured appearances from Hudson East and Tony Lanez.

Wizkid
Nigerian singer/songwriter Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun (aka Wizkid) began his career in music when he was just 11 years old. His first record, Lil Prinz, was recorded in 2001 in collaboration with Glorious Five, a group consisting of Balogun and his friends from church. In 2006, he started pursuing music full-time, at first collaborating with various Nigerian pop acts including OJB Jezreel, Naeto C, and Banky W. By 2011 he was ready to record his debut studio album as a solo artist; Superstar was released via Empire Mates Entertainment (EME for short) to great critical and public acclaim across Africa, propelling him to stardom in his home country. After multiple delays and label disagreements, Balogun released his sophomore album, Ayo, in 2014. His second studio album featured a multitude of guest appearances, including a spot from Femi Kuti. It also featured Balogun's global breakthrough track "Ojuelegba." Not only did the single cement his status as one of Nigeria's biggest pop acts, it was also picked up and remixed by Drake and Skepta, thrusting Wizkid into the international spotlight. In return, Wizkid appeared on Drake's 2016 smash single "One Dance." In March 2017, it was announced that Wizkid had signed a major deal with RCA and Sony International, which would release his third LP, Sound from the Other Side, later that year. A handful of singles appeared in advance of the album, including "Sweet Love" and the Drake-assisted "Come Closer." October 2018 saw Wizkid issue a pair of singles, "Master Groove" and "Fever," to mark Nigeria's Independence Day. - iTunes

Biography

- iTunes

Biography

Irish singer/songwriter Niall Horan was one-fifth of One Direction, one of the most commercially successful boy bands of all time. As one of the group's more prolific songwriters, he could also play guitar, which helped him kick off a solo career after the group went on hiatus in 2016. Born September 13, 1993 in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland, Horan became interested in music at a young age. After his elder brother failed to play the guitar he had received as a Christmas present, Niall picked it up and taught himself to play by watching instructional YouTube videos. Discovering he also had a talent for singing, he began writing songs and performing while still in his early teens, even bagging a support slot with former X Factor contestant Lloyd Daniels at the famous Academy Club in Dublin.

At the age of 16, he auditioned for The X Factor, and the rest is history. One Direction, formed on the show in 2010, went on to become one of the most popular groups of the decade, with sales even surpassing the Beatles. Horan was one of the group's principal songwriters and a fan favorite with his baby-faced good looks and sweet tenor. After five albums in five years and the loss of one of their most popular members (Zayn Malik), One Direction took a well-deserved hiatus beginning in January 2016. Later that year, Horan announced he had signed a solo deal with Capitol. His debut solo single, the romantic acoustic ballad "This Town," was released in September, drawing comparisons with Ed Sheeran and reaching number nine on the U.K. singles chart. Two further singles appeared -- "Slow Hands" and "Too Much to Ask" -- before his debut solo record, Flicker, was released in October 2017. Inspired by the sounds of Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles, the album also featured an appearance by Maren Morris on "Seeing Blind." During the tour for Flicker, Horan and his band made a stop in Dublin to record a live version of Flicker with the 45-piece RTÉ Concert Orchestra, which was released in early 2019 as Flicker Featuring the RTÉ Concert Orchestra (Live).

Biography

Scottish singer/songwriter Lewis Capaldi began creating a buzz in early 2017 with the release of his debut single, "Bruises," a brooding exploration of a failed relationship that introduced his intimate piano and vocal sound. On the strength of his lone single, the Bathgate native sold out legendary Glasgow club King Tut's and notched millions of streams before dropping his follow-up single, the equally stark "Lost on You," later that summer. After signing with Virgin Records, Capaldi included both songs on his debut EP, Bloom, and capped off his banner year with a Scottish Music Award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year. The front half of 2018 was spent touring in North America and Europe in advance of his next single, "Rush," featuring Jessie Reyez. "Tough" followed a few months later. - iTunes

Biography

Karla Camila Cabello Estrabao (/kəˈmiːlə kəˈbeɪoʊ/; Spanish: [kaˈmila kaˈβeʎo]; born March 3, 1997) is a Cuban-American singer and songwriter. She rose to prominence as a member of the girl group Fifth Harmony, formed on The X Factor (U.S.) in 2012, signing a joint record deal with Syco Music and Epic Records.

While a part of Fifth Harmony, Cabello began to establish herself as a solo artist with the release of the collaborations "I Know What You Did Last Summer" with Shawn Mendes, and "Bad Things" with Machine Gun Kelly, the latter reaching number four on the Billboard Hot 100 U.S chart. After leaving the group in December 2016, Cabello released several other collaborations, including "Hey Ma" with Pitbull and J Balvin for The Fate of the Furious soundtrack.

Her debut solo single "Crying in the Club" was released in May 2017, and peaked at number 47 in the U.S. Refocusing her sound to Latin-influenced music thereafter, her debut studio album Camila (2018) debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, with its lead single "Havana" topping the charts in several countries, including the UK and the U.S. The second single "Never Be the Same" also reached the top 10 in several countries.

D-Block Europe
Delivering hazy trap and hedonistic rap verses on tracks such as "Gucci Mane" from their 2018 debut Any Minute Now, D-Block Europe are a London-based rap duo featuring Dirtbike LB and Young Adz.

The two rappers met while at school in South London — LB was impressed with the skill Adz exemplified on his first track "Da Prodigy," released when he was just 13. The pair struck up a friendship, with Adz going on to sign a deal with Universal and gaining a following with his mixtapes. The pair began to collaborate in 2014; however, they decided to spend the next two years honing their craft to achieve a unique mix for their project. They made their first appearance in 2017, releasing the singles "Love of the Money" and "Large Amounts" on D-Block Records. The duo gained recognition with the tracks and with continuous support from the BBC's Fire in the Booth and the Westwood Crib Sessions. The two went on to work with various other artists including Not3s and Don Andre. D-Block Europe released their debut LP, Any Minute Now, which featured Yxng Bane in July 2018. Their second mixtape, Home Alone, arrived in early 2019 and featured guest appearances from the likes of Nafe Smallz and M Huncho.

Biography

Streatham, South London-born grime artist Dave (aka Santan Dave) may only have been 16 when he entered the grime spotlight, but his conscious lyrical style made him sound well beyond his years. Growing up, Dave was inspired to pursue art in some form. Taking cues from his older brothers, he initially tried his hand at animation before moving on to piano before finally settling on becoming a fully-fledged grime MC; unfortunately, his brothers would end up serving lengthy prison sentences. To cope with the drastic alteration to their lives, Dave burrowed even deeper into his music, causing him to develop a socially aware form of wordplay that set him apart from his peers. Despite starting to write bars around the age of ten, it was six years later that Dave would make his first appearance, freestyling on an underground grime channel, Bl@ckbox, in 2015. In January of the following year Dave returned with his first music video/single "JKYL+HYD," cementing his reputation for deep subject matter and ambitious lyrics. In the following months, Dave delivered two key freestyles on BBC Radio 1. The first was on Semtex's 1Xtra show and the second on Charlie Sloth's Fire in the Booth. A number of singles followed, including a standout collaboration with West London's own rising star, AJ Tracey, on "Thiago Silva." By September Dave was ready to drop his first EP, Six Paths. The release was a success in its own right, but gained even more attention when Canadian rapper Drake remixed the single "Wanna Know," bringing Dave's sound to an American audience. - iTunes

Biography

Tiësto
Born Tijs Michiel Verwest in the small Dutch city of Breda in 1969, Tiësto went on to become more than just a world-famous electronic musician—he largely created the model for a powerhouse DJ in the 21st century. He got his start in the mid-’80s, when the skeletal sounds of Belgian new beat ruled Holland’s clubs, but it was trance—sleeker and more emotive—that moved him. His first proper DJ mix , 1997’s Magik One (First Flight), showcases his signature style in dreamy synth melodies drawn out above tough but streamlined drum grooves. As trance’s foremost ambassador, he pioneered stadium raving with solo DJ concerts in sports arenas; in 2004, he played for millions at the Summer Olympics opening ceremony in Athens. And his Club Life weekly radio show and mix series, one of trance’s premier global platforms, became synonymous with the genre itself. But you don’t become the world’s No. 1 DJ by sitting still. By 2011’s Club Life: Volume One Las Vegas, Tiësto was following through on a shift that had begun with his 2009 album, Kaleidoscope, a blend of high-energy trance and airy pop melodies that heralded the next big rave revolution: EDM. With 2014’s A Town Called Paradise, he made good on EDM’s anything-goes promise with a collection encompassing soaring toplines, massive drops, and other big-room thrills without turning his back on the aching melodies that made his name. As the decade drew to a close, playful collabs with a new generation of producers who had come up in his wake—The Chainsmokers, Oliver Heldens, DJ Snake, Hardwell—only served to confirm his versatility and cement his legacy. - iTunes

Mabel
Born in Spain and raised in London and Sweden, McVey showed a deep interest in music during early childhood and studied music production. Her parents didn't know that she was writing music until she was 16. Before she turned 20, she released her debut single, the independently released "Know Me Better" -- a moody, yearning piece of breakbeat soul. Signed to Polydor, she had her second single, "My Boy My Town," out by the end of 2015. Shortly after that, she was nominated in the BBC Sound of 2016 poll (won by Jack Garratt). In 2017, she delivered the mixtape Ivy to Roses, which included the platinum-certified single "Finders Keepers," featuring Kojo Funds. After opening for Harry Styles on his 2018 European tour, she joined Jax Jones and Rich the Kid on hit single "Ring Ring" before issuing her single "One Shot." - iTunes

Biography

Jax Jones
When Duke Dumont topped the UK charts with his single “I Got U” in 2014, many listeners may have assumed that featured artist Jax Jones was the singer. In fact, Jones (born Timucin Aluo in 1987) was a cowriter and producer on the song, whose No. 1 position marked his auspicious debut. Raised in London by a Turkish father, a Malaysian mother and a Nigerian stepfather, Jones grew up on a mix of American hip-hop, UK dance and African music, which might help to explain the mix of styles that swirls through his music: His youthful fondness for Prince shows through in funk-infused cuts like 2015’s “Ocean Drive”, while Afro-Caribbean accents bubble up in 2018’s “Ring Ring,” a lilting tropical-house jam. Though his beats generally follow the punchy cadence of deep-diving future house, he brings a hip-hop producer’s collage sensibility to the mixing desk: Many of his productions slyly interpolate other songs. “You Don’t Know Me”, from 2017, is built around the slinky hook of M.A.N.D.Y. and Booka Shade’s 2005 anthem “Body Language”, while “I Got U” contains a choice bit of Whitney Houston’s “My Love Is Your Love”. Whether on his own productions or his remixes for Ellie Goulding, Charli XCX and Missy Elliott, Jones’ habitual blend of pop polish and house groove is unmistakable. In conversation with Beats 1’s Julie Adenuga, he spoke about his unique relationship to dance music. “I just thought I'd try it,” he said. “House is a collage of everything the creator is. If you love hip-hop, you can chuck that in there. If you love rock, you can chuck that in there too. It took a long time, but now it makes a lot of sense. It’s sample-based and also musical, so it's a very natural fit. Life is beautiful like that. They say you have to, like, get rid of yourself to go to the next level. And I think that’s what happened.” - iTunes

Ella Henderson
Despite initially being the favorite to win, pop-soul singer/songwriter Ella Henderson finished in only sixth place on the 2012 season of the U.K.'s X Factor. However, she still secured a deal with Simon Cowell's Syco Music, becoming the series' lowest-ranked contestant to see her debut single enter the charts at number one.

Born on January 12, 1996 in the village of Tetney in Lincolnshire, England, Henderson developed a love of music early, teaching herself to play the piano before the age of ten. She won a scholarship to the prestigious Tring Park School for the Performing Arts, where she boarded until the age of 16. Almost immediately upon leaving school, she auditioned for The X Factor with her self-penned song "Missed." Winning a place on the show, she became a firm favorite to win but eventually lost out to rocker James Arthur in the public vote. Her departure from the show was considered one of the biggest upsets in its history, and launched a slew of celebrity tweets in her support. Simon Cowell obviously believed in her, for he signed her to his Syco label, after which she spent a year in the studio writing and recording her debut album. She worked with a number of big names including Babyface, Salaam Remi, and OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder, who co-wrote her debut single, the big, beat-heavy, retro-soul "Ghost."

Henderson's powerful, sultry voice, confessional lyrics, and stylish look inspired by the vintage fashion with which she had been enamored since childhood, combined with the public's fond memories of her tenure on The X Factor, shot her to fame, and "Ghost" debuted on the U.K. singles chart at number one, spending eight consecutive weeks in the Top Five. Her second single, "Glow," co-written and produced by Steve Mac, had a more electronic sound. Her debut album, Chapter One, was released in October 2014.

Biography

A native of Los Angeles' Hollywood region, Blackbear -- born Matthew Musto -- was known as a fledgling rock-leaning singer/songwriter until he co-wrote Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend," a number two hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2012. Around the same time, he reinvented himself as a rapper and more R&B-oriented singer through the self-released Sex, on which he was joined by fellow "Boyfriend" co-writer Mike Posner, along with James Blake and Maejor Ali. He also appeared on MGK's Lace Up. An EP, The Afterglow, followed in 2014. Another big stride was taken the next year with Deadroses, a self-released full-length that registered on Billboard's Uncharted listing of releases from upcoming artists. Deadroses featured the singles "IDFC" and "90210," featuring rapper G-Eazy. An EP of acoustic interpretations titled Dead followed soon after, before Musto issued his sophomore set, Help, in 2015. The EPs Drink Bleach and Cashmere Noose both arrived in 2016, as did "STFU," the debut single from Musto and Mike Posner's alternative hip-hop duo Mansionz. Two more Mansionz singles preceded the project's eponymous debut LP, released in March 2017. One month later, Blackbear issued his third full-length album, Digital Druglord. Cybersex arrived at the end of the year, debuting in the Top 50. In 2018, in addition to collaborations with Mike Shinoda ("About You") and DVBBS ("IDWK"), he issued solo single "The 1." The following year, he released "1 Sided Love" from the album Anonymous. - iTunes

Biography

Jorja Smith is an English R&B singer/songwriter whose soulful, jazz-tinged cadence, heartfelt lyrics, and retro sound have invoked comparisons to the likes of AlunaGeorge, Rihanna, and Amy Winehouse, the latter of whom the Walsall-based artist cites as her biggest influence. Within a three-year span, Smith appeared on the U.K. indie chart with her moody, MOBO-nominated debut single "Blue Lights" (2016), nearly cracked the Top Ten of the U.K. dance chart with "On My Mind" (2017), and after three additional MOBO nominations crossed into the Top 40 with the Stormzy-assisted ballad "Let Me Down" (2018). During this time, Smith also contributed to Drake's More Life playlist and the Kendrick Lamar-guided soundtrack for Black Panther, audience-expanding releases that intensified anticipation for her debut album, Lost & Found (June 2018).

Raised on reggae, soul, and hip-hop, Jorja Smith was encouraged to pursue music by her musician father. She started performing at the age of eight, shortly thereafter began writing original songs, and later earned a music scholarship. After she completed her studies, while still a teenager, she made her recorded debut in 2016 with "Blue Lights," a hip-hop soul single inspired by racist police motives. The song, issued through her own FAMM label, reached number 22 on the U.K. indie chart and was nominated for a MOBO award in the category of Best Song. By the end of 2016, she also added the Maverick Sabre collaboration "A Prince," the powerful "Where Did I Go?," and the five-track EP Project 11 to her discography.

Smith's international profile was elevated in 2017 with contributions to Drake's playlist More Life. Both of the songs on which she appeared, "Jorja Interlude" and "Get It Together," charted in multiple territories. A handful of additional solo singles, beginning with "Beautiful Little Fools" and "Teenage Fantasy," and concluding with "On My Mind," arrived throughout 2017. The last of the batch reached number five on the U.K. indie chart and peaked at number 54 on the pop chart. MOBO nominations followed for Best Female, Best Newcomer, and Best R&B/Soul Act. In early 2018, she released the dark and moody "Let Me Down," which featured grime artist Stormzy and eventually peaked at number 34 on the pop chart. Perhaps even more notably, she appeared on the Black Panther soundtrack with "I Am," a collaboration with album orchestrator Kendrick Lamar. Lost & Found, Smith's debut album, followed only a few months later.

Biography

Kanye Omari West (/ˈkɑːnjeɪ/; born June 8, 1977) is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, entrepreneur, and fashion designer. His music has spanned a broad range of styles, incorporating an eclectic range of influences including hip hop, soul, baroque pop, electro, indie rock, synth-pop, industrial, and gospel.

Born in Atlanta and raised in Chicago, West first became known as a producer for Roc-A-Fella Records in the early 2000s, producing singles for recording artists such as Jay-Z, Ludacris and Alicia Keys. Intent on pursuing a solo career as a rapper, West released his debut album The College Dropout in 2004 to critical and commercial success, and founded the record label GOOD Music. He went on to experiment with a variety of musical genres on subsequent acclaimed studio albums, including Late Registration (2005), Graduation (2007), and the polarizing but influential 808s & Heartbreak (2008). He released his fifth album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy in 2010 to further rave reviews, and has since succeeded it with Yeezus (2013), The Life of Pablo (2016). Ye (2018), and Jesus Is King (2019), as well as full-length collaborations Watch the Throne (2011) and Kids See Ghosts (2018) with Jay-Z and Kid Cudi respectively.

West's outspoken views and life outside of music have received significant media attention. West is a practicing Christian and his religious views have garnered widespread curiosity. He has been a frequent source of controversy for his conduct at award shows, on social media, and in other public settings, as well as his comments on the music and fashion industries, U.S. politics, and race. His marriage to television personality Kim Kardashian has also been a source of substantial media attention. As a fashion designer, he has collaborated with Nike, Louis Vuitton, and A.P.C. on both clothing and footwear, and have most prominently resulted in the Yeezy collaboration with Adidas beginning in 2013. He is the founder and head of the creative content company DONDA.

West is among the most critically acclaimed musicians of the 21st century and one of the best-selling music artists of all time with over 140 million records sold worldwide. He has won a total of 21 Grammy Awards, making him one of the most awarded artists of all time and the most Grammy-awarded artist of his generation. Three of his albums have been included and ranked on Rolling Stone's 2012 update of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" list and he ties with Bob Dylan for having topped the annual Pazz & Jop critic poll the most times ever, with four number-one albums each. Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2005 and 2015.

Biography

Travis Scott has helped define the sound and feel of 2010s rap, imbuing tough, surrealistic trap with a distinctly pop appeal. Raised in the suburbs of Houston, Scott (born Jacques Berman Webster II in 1992) first made noise as an in-house producer for Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music, working on the 2012 label showcase Cruel Summer and 2013’s Yeezus, which arrived mere weeks after he dropped his debut mixtape, Owl Pharaoh. He went on to bring his gothic-edged sound to Drake, Migos, Madonna, and Rihanna (“Bitch Better Have My Money”), while his own solo albums—2015’s Rodeo and 2016’s Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight—playfully drew the commercial center of rap toward the avant-garde. Take 2018’s ASTROWORLD, a swirling, almost psychedelic set that not only managed to pull together Quavo, John Mayer, Tame Impala, and Sheck Wes on the same album, but also had them gel—a testament to Scott’s vision as an artist and superlative curator. Like West, his mentor, Scott has also brought tremendous energy to his live shows, creating a stage-diving, punk-like spectacle that revitalizes a space that too many rappers inhabit on autopilot. - iTunes

- iTunes

Biography

Maroon 5 is an American pop rock band from Los Angeles, California. It currently consists of lead vocalist Adam Levine, keyboardist and rhythm guitarist Jesse Carmichael, bassist Mickey Madden, lead guitarist James Valentine, drummer Matt Flynn, keyboardist PJ Morton, and multi-instrumentalist Sam Farrar. Original members Levine, Carmichael, Madden, and drummer Ryan Dusick first came together as Kara's Flowers in 1994, while they were still in high school. After self-releasing their independent album We Like Digging?, the band signed to Reprise Records and released the album The Fourth World in 1997. The album garnered a tepid response, after which the record label dropped the band and the members focused on college. In 2001, the band re-emerged as Maroon 5, pursuing a different direction and adding guitarist Valentine. The band signed with Octone Records, an independent record label with a separate joint venture relationship with J Records and released their debut album Songs About Jane in June 2002. Aided by its lead single, "Harder to Breathe", which received heavy airplay, the album peaked at number six on the Billboard 200 chart, and went platinum in 2004. The band won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2005. In 2006, Dusick left the band after suffering from serious wrist and shoulder injuries and was replaced by Matt Flynn.

The band's second album It Won't Be Soon Before Long, was released in May 2007. It debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart and the lead single "Makes Me Wonder", became the band's first number one single on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2010, the band released the third album Hands All Over, to mixed reviews, re-releasing a year later to include the single "Moves like Jagger", which topped the Billboard Hot 100. In 2012, Carmichael left the group and was replaced by musician PJ Morton, as the band released the fourth album Overexposed, with the song "One More Night", topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart for nine consecutive weeks.

In 2014, Carmichael rejoined the band alongside Morton to record the fifth album V (pronounced: "five"), with the band signed a new label, Interscope Records. Following the release of V, it reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart. In 2016, Maroon 5 recruited their long-time collaborator Sam Farrar, as the band continued for the sixth studio album Red Pill Blues, which was released in November 2017. For the addition of Morton and Farrar, which leading the band's lineup to seven official members. With the successful singles of both albums "Sugar" and "Girls Like You", are peaked at numbers two and one on the Hot 100 chart respectively. Maroon 5 has sold more than 120 million records, making them one of the world's best-selling music artists.

Biography

Coming on smart, sassy, and strong, like an indie Missy Elliot, Minneapolis rapper and singer Lizzo arrived in the Twin Cities with a hard sound and stance, thanks to her Texas roots and time learning the ropes with crews like Atlanta's Crime Mob. Born Melissa Jefferson in Houston and raised in Detroit, Lizzo earned her moniker when she joined the uniformly named members -- Lexo, Nino, and Zeo -- of the Cornroll Clique. A 2011 move to Minneapolis found her fronting Lizzo & the Larva Ink while joining the neo-TLC-type group the Chalice. Her work began to intertwine with the city's indie scene, which included artists like Gayngs, Doomtree, Marijuana Deathsquads, and Har Mar Superstar; listening to a copy of Doomtree producer Lazerbreak's album Lava Breaks brought her out of a long case of writer's block.

Inspired by Lazerbreak's work, she recorded the album Lizzobangers with the producer plus Gayngs member Ryan Olson. The album was released in 2013 on the Totally Gross National Product label. After making guest appearances on tracks by Prince & 3rdEyeGirl ("Boytrouble"), Clean Bandit ("New Eyes"), Bastille ("Torn Apart"), and Sean Anonymous & DJ Name ("Cold Shoulder"), Lizzo released her second full-length album, 2015's Big GRRRL Small World, on her own BGSW label. In October 2016, Lizzo made her major-label debut with the EP Coconut Oil, which was released by Atlantic's Nice Life imprint. The following year saw her drop the singles "Water Me" and "Truth Hurts," with "Fitness" and "Boys" arriving the following year. In February 2019, Lizzo issued the title track from her full-length Cuz I Love You, which arrived later that April.

She was at one time the most followed individual on Instagram, before being surpassed by athlete Cristiano Ronaldo in October 2018. Gomez's other ventures include a clothing line, a handbag line, a fragrance line, and a production company named July Moonhead Productions. She has worked with various charitable organizations and became a UNICEF ambassador at the age of seventeen.

Biography

English pop singer Dua Lipa showcases a throwback vibe and a knack for catchy pop with soulful grit, much like Sia, Jessie J, or P!nk, and a slyly rebellious air like Charli XCX or Marina & the Diamonds. After a steady rise in the U.K., she broke onto the U.S. charts with a series of collaborations with Sean Paul, Martin Garrix, and Calvin Harris, as well as multi-platinum singles "New Rules" and "IDGAF" from her 2017 debut, Dua Lipa. In 2019, she won Grammy awards for Best New Artist and Best Dance Recording for her collaboration with Silk City, "Electricity."

Born and raised in London to Kosovar-Albanian parents, Lipa attended the Sylvia Young Theater School (Rita Ora, Amy Winehouse) until the age of 13, when she relocated to Kosovo with her family. However, the move wouldn't last very long, and she was back in London by age 15, living on her own and pursuing a singing career. Her first demos were released in 2012, attracting the attention of Lana Del Rey's management team, who signed her and linked her up with Emile Haynie (Lana Del Rey, Bruno Mars). Her shimmery debut single, "New Love," was followed up with the soulful "Be the One." Long-listed for the prestigious BBC's Sound of 2016, Lipa released "Hotter Than Hell" and "Blow Your Mind (Mwah)" in 2016, coinciding with a tour throughout the spring and summer. While "Hotter Than Hell" went on to break into the Top 20 in the U.K., in 2017 she earned the distinction of having three simultaneously charting singles in the U.K. Top 15 with "Be the One," "Scared to Be Lonely" with Martin Garrix, and "No Lie" with Sean Paul.

Dua Lipa, her debut full-length, arrived that summer. In addition to her previously released singles, the album included "Lost in Your Light" (a duet with Miguel) and "Homesick" (with Coldplay's Chris Martin). Since a handful of singles had already been in international rotation since 2015, the album's revived international promotional effort focused on the single "New Rules," which became another multi-platinum hit, not only rising into the Top Ten on the Billboard Hot 100 but also landing on European and Australian Top Ten lists. Eighth album single "IDGAF" followed in 2018, extending her chart presence. That summer, she teamed with Calvin Harris for the '90s club-inspired "One Kiss," which helped land Lipa another number one. Closing out the whirlwind success of this breakthrough era, she collected all these collaborative singles and bundled them with the deluxe version of her debut album as Dua Lipa: Complete Edition, which was promoted with the single "Kiss and Make Up" with K-pop girl group BlackPink.

In early 2019, Lipa won Best New Artist at the 61st Grammy Awards, also taking the prize for Best Dance Recording for "Electricity," her collaborative hit single with Diplo and Mark Ronson's Silk City project.

- iTunes

J Hus
Must Be

1st single from second studio album
Released: 6th November 2019
Label: Black Butter

Video

Biography

J Hus, a Londoner of Gambian heritage, made a major impact on the 2010s U.K. rap scene with his distinctive blend of dancehall, grime, Auto-Tune-laced R&B, and Afro-beats. After establishing himself in 2015 with a series of freestyles and early singles, such as the heavily streamed "Lean & Bop," he broke through with his 2017 debut full-length, Common Sense, which hit the U.K. Top Ten and earned a shower of critical acclaim, garnering a Mercury Prize nomination, among other accolades.

Momodou Jallow was born and raised in Stratford, London by his single mother. Influenced by 50 Cent, he began rapping, and went professional thanks to the help of two friends, who formed 2K Management. In 2015, they recorded a handful of demos and uploaded them to the Web, cut the single "So Paranoid" with London rapper MoStack, and uploaded a set of videos, including "Dem Boy Paigon." The latter was an instant street hit and quickly earned over a million views. J Hus then dropped his debut mixtape, The 15th Day, as well as the non-album single "Lean & Bop" (his first release on Sony imprint Black Butter Records), which was streamed several million times. J Hus began 2016 with the single "Friendly," and the three-song Playing Sports EP soon followed.

The burgeoning star had a busy year in 2017, as he featured on the Nines track "High Roller" and Dave's hit "Samantha," as well as Stormzy's "Bad Boys" from his hugely successful Gang Signs & Prayer record. In May 2017, Hus released his debut LP, Common Sense, which featured guest spots from MoStack, Burna Boy, Tiggs Da Author, and MIST. The album was recognized with a Mercury Prize nomination that same year; in 2018, it won Best Album at the NME Awards, and garnered the rapper three Brit Award nominations. J Hus followed his breakthrough success with the 2018 EP Big Spang.

She did have a few decent ish track early on but she os become stale and samey overexposed and really should come with subtitles laugh.gif

Apparently it's not appropriate for daytime radio, despite an edit actually existing from when Capital played it last week! laugh.gif

Except it is blatant homophobia especially if you think if how many heteronormative songs that feature utterly inappropriate sexual innuendos or obvious references get all the praise and endless airtime.

f*** that shit seriously.. Lick my pussy AND my crack, UK Charts.

Sam’s promo single did that!!! At least it charted... despite very low promotion

Posted by: Bré 9th November 2019, 12:03 PM

Lol at R1 skipping four of the new entries :') (not complaining at Krept & Konan/D-Block Europe and Poundz not getting played though, and although I haven't heard the M Huncho song yet I doubt it's likely to be much better than those, the lyrics certainly look like they're on the same level of trash).

edit: listened to 'Thumb' now and it's not as bad as I expected, the lyrics are still deeply unpleasant (sounding like an imitation of D-Block Europe again) but the song sounds decent enough aside from that, more enjoyable than most of the songs I've heard from the artists involved. Still not something I ever want to hear again tho. AJ Tracey/Skepta really carrying the quality of the UK rap entries this week.

It is disappointing that they still didn't play all of 'Break Up Bye Bye', it definitely seems like they're holding it to a pretty dodgy double standard when they happily play censored versions of other songs with similarly explicit lyrics like Pavel said. At least they didn't just completely gloss over it I guess, and they stated a reason why they didn't play it even if it was a pretty bullshit one...

edit 2: the lyrics of 'Break Up Bye Bye' aren't even that bad lol. Happy it stayed top 40, it's pretty decent by the standards of Drag Race songs, certainly one of the better new entries this week xx

Posted by: dobbo 9th November 2019, 02:06 PM

Why the hell did they skip almost all the new entries? Awful excuse if it's to do with explicit lyrics because surely it's the radio's job to find (or if not, create) a suitable edit...
