Critical lists:

Albumism: #7
According to Quentin Harrison: “At one point, it was easy to put Minogue in the “don’t bore us, get to the chorus” box when she was still under the auspices of Stock-Aitken-Waterman at the outset of her career. Decades removed from that prefabricated incarnation, DISCO is the product of a woman keenly aware of her strengths, but not constrained by them. Minogue’s accessibility belies an innovative, eclectic mind capable of challenging and entertaining audiences by whichever medium she so chooses. No one knows what Minogue may do next, but as it stands, we can all joyously journey around the mirrorball with her for the time being with DISCO.”

Gaffa: #18
If you give the album time and patience, it grows on one and gives a charming and positive mix of disco spirit and the dance pop sound from the early 2000s that suits Kylie so perfectly. The bottom line of the album is - as always with Kylie - high. In fact, higher than usual, making it her perhaps best in ten years. "Say Something", "Real Groove", "Dance Floor Darling" and "Magic" all have a little pinch of real pop magic.

Slant Magazine: #46
Nothing on Kylie Minogue’s dance-floor comeback, Disco, reaches the high camp of 2001’s “Your Disco Needs You,” but the infectious “Monday Blues,” which boasts intertwining strands of disco DNA from both Chic and Kool & the Gang, makes a valiant attempt. Occasionally, Disco ventures into parody, but while the album might be a purely derivative work, its period arrangements—all sweeping disco strings, Nile Rodgers-esque guitar licks, and indiscriminately deployed cowbell—are executed with aplomb. Disco doesn’t attempt to adapt the classic titular sound in a contemporary context like those albums did, instead content to bask in unapologetic homage. It’s a sugar rush that’s worth the hangover. The Guardian: #42
The uber-Kylie album thunders through the genre’s history, from the Voulez-Vous-ing of Last Chance and sly references to Gloria Gaynor and Earth, Wind & Fire to its stylish 90s French touch reincarnation. More than simply disco literate, it is also a wonderfully meta exposition of Kylie’s pop identity, how she has embodied hope and joy and lived in service of the perfect pop song – its own bid for immortality. She had spent a few years off the pulse with try-hard Kiss Me Once (2014) and Nashville-inspired, retirement-tempting Golden (2018). But Disco didn’t just compete with this year’s surprisingly widespread revival of the genre; Kylie’s fantastical dancefloor, one of catharsis and community, resonated precisely with these weird times. The Quietus: #36
Cards on the table, right up front: I believe Kylie Minogue is a pop genius. And before we go any further, it's necessary to clarify exactly what is meant by that. The rockist, hippy notion of 'genius' involves the self-made auteur, toiling away at the coalface with their bare fingernails, carving out a monolithic monument to their own ego. In pop - which is where Kylie Minogue utterly excels - the skill set is different. Pop, by its very nature, is synthetic and collaborative, and therefore pop genius is about having a vision of exactly what you want, and knowing exactly who you need to work with (songwriters, producers, video directors, costume designers, choreographers) in order to create a heightened uber-self, a perfect pop THING to send out into the world.

A few more year end appearances:

Billboard (Dance Albums): #9

Disco isn’t the first time Kylie Minogue has paid homage to the disco era. But whereas last time, on 2000’s Light Years, the pop goddess played the pin-up in a swirl of camp and cheek, a more sophisticated starlight chanteuse emerges here on tracks like “Miss a Thing,” “Real Groove” and “Supernova.” The references to Chic, Moroder and of course, fellow queen Donna Summer abound, but above it all shines the indelible presence of an artist who can express the sadness of disco’s shadows with equal divination as she can its strobe-lit joyousness, often in a single phrase. — Z.M.

Variety: #7

It’s Kylie Minogue. Making a disco album. What else is there to explain here? Of course it’s good.

Ranked #6 by GQ (shock!):

I am a millennial, meaning Kylie will always be a disco-pop chanteuse to me and no one can tell me otherwise. But whereas her 2000s hits had something of the future about them, Disco is entirely nostalgic: it’s Soul Train, it’s Electric Light Orchestra, it’s Jamiroquai. It’s camp in the way all great pop music has to be: existing outside of the fashions of the time, impossible to contextualise upon impact.

In a year of disco-as-aphrodisiac, Minogue has served us a meteor shower of up-tempo dance-til-you-suffocate hits that drag queens will lip-sync to for the next 50 years, and DJs will play at weddings until you’re too old to get up and dance at them. From the vocoder fantasia of “Supernova” to “Where Does the DJ Go?”, which feels like a spiritual successor to her magnum opus “Your Disco Needs You”, this is holistic dance music that cements Kylie Minogue’s position as the great equaliser. The queen is well and truly back. DL

'Magic' has also been named the 18th best dance song of 2020 by Billboard:

While the synth-pop-informed “Say Something” announced Kylie Minogue's new era, the Wurlitzer-esque chords that open “Magic” make it clear: the diva has arrived at the disco. Re-teaming with frequent collaborators Peter Wallevik and Daniel Davidsen (and for the first time with Teemu Brunila and Michelle Buzz) for the first single off her Disco album, Minogue delivers harmonies and vocal range that would make the Bee Gees proud without sounding overly retro. “Do you believe in magic?” she sings in the chorus, and after listening, you’ll surely answer yes. — Z.M.

Daily Telegraph: #5

Surely it’s no surprise by now that Kylie knows what she’s doing. She returned to the dancefloor, but on her own terms. Instead of chasing trends, these songs were instant but work on a deeper level – the adult pop she’s been gravitating towards for a few years. From the heartbreak funk of Real Groove to the uplifting euphoria of Celebrate You and iso-anthem Say Something, it wasn’t just another Kylie dance album. There was also impressive attention to detail in warm disco vibes on Miss a Thing or the Prince-on-speed Dance Floor Darling. Imagine this album on tour.

NME (Australian albums): #18

“Can we all be as one again?” That’s the closing lyric of Kylie Minogue’s ‘Say Something’, the captivating lead single of her 15th studio album ‘Disco’. Minogue revives disco-pop in an effort for all of us to escape the misery of 2020, and, for just over 40 minutes, we live the fantasy with her. Through the punchy brass in ‘Magic’ and the strutting bassline in ‘Real Groove’, Kylie stretches out her hand and invites you on a ride around the mirror ball. You won’t want to get off any time soon. JL

Wonderland:

You must’ve lost your bloody mind if you thought we’d be missing out this year’s pop saviour on the list, seriously. We welcomed Minogue’s 15th studio album at a crucial stage of 2020, fatigued by early evenings and lockdown 2.0, the desire for a sweaty night out seemed more potent than ever. Then along came Kylie, providing the campiest, poppiest goods that quelled all our woes –– if only for a moment. Between the frenetic explosions at the end of “Dance Floor Darling”, or the swirling, euphoric charm of “Say Something”, the pop icon proved that her free and fun-loving approach to song hadn’t gone anywhere, and that she’ll be producing bangers like this until the day she dies.

Best Songs: “Hey Lonely”, “Monday Blues”, “Miss a Thing”

'DISCO' is officially the 33rd best selling album of 2020: https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/t...of-2020__29265/

That's the exact position that 'Golden' achieved in 2018, although it sold 140k to reach that position compared to 113k for 'DISCO'.
