Good idea Alex, people like to reflect back on 10 years ago, 20 years ago today etc
I think I will be lucky if I know any tracks from 1949 though! Be interesting to see if that's true! |

# 1 : Brotherhood Of Man - Goodbye Goodbye
UK chart : - # 1 debut for Brotherhood of Man. Only one group (Blondie) was more successful in my 1978-1979 charts. |

Good Old Days, are you a Pussycat fan? I know Hey Joe as I have Good For Gold, a Pussycat CD that I think is out of print now. They did some great songs besides their two hits, Mississippi and Smile.

Yes, I like them, old good "middle of the road" genre and Dutch pop scene of 70s and 80s always will be my second favourite after British from these two decades. I do know Buttons & Bows though (I adore the Bob Hope movie versions, and Bob Hope was a fab comic actor) Can't go wrong with Doris day, Peggy Lee though, always good! "Buttons and Bows" was big hit in the second half of 1948, there are 6 versions of "Buttons and Bows" (5 from Billboard chart and one from UK, recorded by the winner of my first chart). Dinah Shore version was # 1 in United States and # 8 in UK. Peak positions for others : Betty Jane Rhodes # 9, Dinning Sisters # 5, Betty Garrett # 8, Evelyn Knight # 14. Hi Alex, all of these made my charts, almost all of the others I never got to hear at the time! Plenty I would have charted if I'd heard them though. I love that Suzi Quatro track, among many. John, there are many entries from Netherlands, it's the influence of "Top Pop" TV show, most performances are available in very good quality. Teach In - Dear John Different line-up with their Eurovision successful "Ding A Dong", now (in 1979) they have two other female singers. Realite - Next One : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlAE5Jff6Ws (typical MoR music from male/female duet). Girlie - Andy (For Love It Takes Two) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTVzgMyDuK4 (girl group with leading blonde vocalist). Deluge - Broom (With Me) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uo3187-Gizk (very interesting sound, especially for my chart). Renee - Sweet Nothings : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poe7Y_uf8E8 (cover version of Brenda Lee hit) Corry Konings - Een Teken Van Leven : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsljkDrDHys (local Dutch legendary singer, she will have many hits in my 70s and 80s charts, solo and with the Rekels) Hanny - Ciao Ciao Amore : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSRB_xteGxo (schlager, which sounds like many German and Dutch songs from that time period) Thanks to YouTube, where we can find and listen low-popular singles and the releases from other charts, not only from UK. P.S : I didn't add YouTube links for low-known songs before, but must do it in near future. This post has been edited by Good Old Days: Jan 23 2019, 07:25 AM |
