Those sales for Slow were commented on a fair bit at the time, it was when CD sales were plummeting week by week and there was no popular legal download site yet (the iTunes Store had launched in the US but not in the UK yet). That same week Johnny Cash's covers of 'Hurt' and 'Personal Jesus' charted at #39, which seem far more famous than their chart position suggest.

I know it looks like 'Slow' was a fluke #1, but she was coming off the back of a mega huge era and it was widely expected her lead single would be a #1 at the time.
Interesting to see 'Love Affair' is her most downloaded album track. That's a highlight on Fever for me, probably the best non-single on it! |

"Slow" was definitely one of those 'fanbase buy' number 1 hits. I love the bassline on it though myself.
When "Red Blooded Woman" came out I did think "why on earth wasn't this the lead single?" |

QUOTE 22. Speaking of Santa Baby, it was originally released as a B-side in 2000, and took 17 years to hit the Top 40. It is fantastic that it did read Top 40 this year at last. Fully deserved. |

Slow is a much better lead single than Red blooded woman. It was a deliberate attempt to pitch to the American market which although it was semi successful is one of my least favourite Kylie singles. That's such an interesting fact about Love Affair, as it came out before the download era, so its sales/streams are from people revisiting the album and picking that track as a highlight over all of her other non-singles.
It really is a great song though, would have been a fantastic single from Fever, though maybe a little too similar in style to In Your Eyes and Love At First Sight so I can see why Come Into My World was chosen. |
