Yes, I know it’s late

Let's go back five years...

Before there were stratospheric points records...

Back when Come & Get It was #1...

Back when I didn't know anything about anything...

...and fast forward to now.

Last week...

TW lw WOC artist - song
1.) (2.) (6) Marshmello & Anne-Marie - Friends *1 week @ #1*
2.) (7.) (8) Hailee Steinfeld & BloodPop - Capital Letters
3.) (1.) (11) SDJM & Conor Maynard - That Way *1 week @ #1*

Are we still keeping it Mello?

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 02:25 AM

Let's kick things off!

50.) Camila Cabello f/Young Thug - "Havana"
Lead single, Camila
Chart Run: 42-30-15-8-2-1-2-2-3-3-5-8-11-11-13-16-20-21-24-26-27-32-34-31-34-36-40-45-49-50-... (30 weeks)

Kicking off things is Camila Cabello, who stays on the chart another week... by the skin of her teeth. The influx of new songs are starting to make the chart a little fresher, but can this still last long enough to crack the 35 week mark? Kudos to her though, she’s preparing for her tour as well as supporting Taylor for a leg of hers.

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 02:29 AM

49.) Kriss Kross Amsterdam f/Jorge Blanco - “Gone Is The Night"
Non-album single
Chart Run: 49-46-47-46-49-... (5 weeks)

After scoring a #1 last year, the boys team up this time with Jorge Blanco for another sexy banger. Right now it’s not doing too hot. Can their fortunes change?

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 02:38 AM

48.) G-Eazy f/Charlie Puth - “Sober"
3rd single, The Beautiful & Damned
Chart Run: 48-... (1 week)

Charlie Puth established himself as a superpower back with We Don’t Talk Anymore and only catapulted himself further with Attention. G-Eazy currently has a taste of this success. Will this duo be as deadly as they appear?

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 02:38 AM

47.) Banx & Ranx & Ella Eyre f/Yxng Bane - “Answerphone"
Non-album single
Chart Run: 47-... (1 week)

Former BJSC flops Banx & Ranx come for a vengeance as they smash the UK charts with Answerphone featuring Ella Eyre. This is her first charter since “Comeback” three and a half years ago.

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 02:43 AM

46.) Elijah Woods X Jamie Fine - “Ain’t Easy"
Non-album single
Chart Run: 48-46-... (2 weeks)

One of two CanCons here and one of many songs released through a new project called The Launch. These guys were the biggest hitters as their song is currently top 10 in Canadian radio, but for how long?

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 02:47 AM

45.) David Guetta & Sia - “Flames"
Non-album single
Chart Run: 45-... (1 week)

After MONTHS of David Guetta releasing flop single after flop single (with “2U” serving as a midway point), he reaches the top 20 toward the end of February and at the moment has three songs in the top 50. His first entry this week is among many collaborations with Sia. Will this smash?

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 02:50 AM

44.) bülow - “Not A Love Song"
Lead single, Damaged Vol. 1
Chart Run: 50-44-... (2 weeks)

Another rather random CanCon that seems like it can do well. Can newcomer bülow handle the competition in the chart?

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 02:55 AM

43.) Steve Aoki, Daddy Yankee, Play-N-Skillz & Elvis Crespo - “Azukita"
Non-album single
Chart Run: 49-49-47-43-... (4 weeks)

A while back, it seemed like Bailar was going to be the first Spanish language #1, but that ended up going to Despacito. Steve Aoki recently went to #1 with his remix of Mic Drop by BTS, can he take this song to the top?

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 02:58 AM

Chart Contender Of The Week #1: Shawn Mendes - "In My Blood"

So sappy Shawn Mendes songs have a history of looking like they’re gonna do well but then don’t do well... except for Stitches because that was always gonna be an exception. Will this song be another one?

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 03:02 AM

42.) Why Don’t We - “These Girls"
Non-album single
Chart Run: 46-44-37-28-23-21-19-12-8-6-7-7-8-9-11-15-18-26-34-42-... (20 weeks)

So... I’m not entirely sure how Why Don’t We seemed to have escaped the extreme backlash due to be slightly affiliated with Logan Paul, but don’t fret. This boy band made a surprise hit with this song, reaching #6 a few months ago.

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 03:05 AM

41.) Justin Timberlake f/Chris Stapleton - “Say Something"
3rd single, Man Of The Woods
Chart Run: 49-43-43-41-38-41-... (6 weeks)

JT opted for a more country direction with this album, along with a couple throwback sounds but there were some country influences. Including this song with Chris Stapleton, whose songs probably wouldn’t have charted before.

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 03:07 AM

These flashbacks are gonna be a bit different. They will chronicle some of the biggest hits to ever touch the chart.

Flashback Of The Week #1: the #1 song of 2013

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 03:11 AM

40.) Cardi B f/21 Savage - “Bartier Cardi"
2nd single, Invasion Of Privacy
Chart Run: 48-44-41-36-32-28-28-25-29-40-... (10 weeks)

A big congratulations to Cardi B, whose debut album broke Beyoncé’s record for this tracking period! She’s really grown into her own after the tumultuous Love & Hip Hop.

This will probably be the only time 21 Savage charts. His voice is boring.

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 03:14 AM

39.) Troye Sivan - “My My My!”
Lead single, TBA
Chart Run: 50-45-38-25-20-19-17-21-39-... (9 weeks)

Troye is currently working on his second album and by the sound of this song it’s gonna involve some darker production elements. Here for it? Definitely.

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 03:17 AM

38.) Sofi Tukker f/NERVO, The Knocks & Alisa Ueno - “Best Friend”
2nd single, Treehouse
Chart Run: 43-25-15-7-6-3-2-1-1-2-5-5-5-8-10-11-15-17-21-25-29-32-38-... (23 weeks)

Yet another somewhat random #1 that has been gaining tons of points along the way. This was a more refreshing bite of modern dance music that didn’t have the same buildup and breakdown, but was more of a euphoric rush throughout.

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 03:20 AM

Chart Contender Of The Week #2: Halsey f/Big Sean & Stefflon Don - "Alone"

Halsey ended last year with two huge hits and Closer being a nice carryover. She recently got her first #1 with Him & I... does she have room for another?

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 03:24 AM

37.) David Guetta, Martin Garrix & Brooks - “Like I Do”
Non-album single
Chart Run: 45-37-... (2 weeks)

The second David Guetta song to appear is a nice refreshing take on the big room craze that happened in 2013, and what way to do it than partner up with commercialized big room pioneer Martin Garrix?

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 03:28 AM

36.) Taylor Swift - “Delicate”
4th/5th single, Reputation
Chart Run: 47-44-40-36-36-... (5 weeks)

Once again... I hate weird release strategies. This song serves as the palette cleanser for all those Taylor Swift fans who were sick and tired of her victimizing herself in every single song of hers. There’s still a bit of that charm, but it’s more subdued.

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 03:32 AM

35.) The Chainsmokers - “Everybody Hates Me”
3rd single, Sick Boy... Everybody Hates Me
Chart Run: 41-35-... (2 weeks)

It’s a bit of a return to form for The Chainsmokers as this returns them to the sound that made them bigger than just a novelty hit. However this was a bit more indie than most. Maybe they can incorporate that into their next album?

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 03:35 AM

34.) Louisa f/2 Chainz - “Yes”
Non-album single
Chart Run: 50-40-34-... (3 weeks)

Previous X Factor winner Louisa Johnson delivers a Name-change fueled trip back to 2002 with this track that’s supposed to give off a more sensual vibe. Did she make Xtina proud?

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 05:21 AM

33.) Dua Lipa - "IDGAF”
8th single, Dua Lipa
Chart Run: 48-43-35-33-... (4 weeks)

Dua Lipa is currently at that point in this album era where she can say this about the US peak even though it would be pretty underwhelming following the megasmash that was New Rules. One Kiss is still to follow, can she finally get a #1 here?

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 05:24 AM

32.) Kim Petras - "Heart To Break”
6th single, TBA
Chart Run: 45-36-33-32-... (4 weeks)

Who knows what's the deal with her upcoming album?

What we do know is: her aesthetic is on point, and just what I expected from an upcoming pop star. Now I kinda expected her to just be another all-American girl in the wings to become a pop diva but I didn't even know she was German! It seems like this and IDGAF have similar chart runs.

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 05:26 AM

31.) Bazzi - "Mine”
Lead single, Cosmic
Chart Run: 48-37-31--... (3 weeks)

Well I don't understand why anyone would give anything that derived from musical.ly the time of day (I mean just look at Jacob Sartorius!) but this seems to be the one good thing that came out of this app. Good on Bazzi for making musical.ly tolerable to the general public. At 2:13, this is the shortest song to chart since Cups.

Flashback Of The Week #2: the #1 song of 2014

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 05:30 AM

30.) M.O f/Lotto Boyz & Mr. Eazi - "Bad Vibe"
Non-album single
Chart Run: 47-37-31-30-... (4 weeks)

This is the highest any of these artists have come. Impressive for M.O considering this is their second song to chart ever. The UK urban sound works sometimes.

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 05:33 AM

29.) Selena Gomez X Marshmello - "Wolves"
Non-album single
Chart Run: 1-1-1-1-3-2-2-4-3-5-7-8-10-10-11-12-12-14-16-19-21-23-25-29-... (25 weeks)

Pretty much on track to becoming one of the biggest songs on the chart, even though it hasn't stayed that long on there. Only Selena. You'll see Marshmello two more times in the upcoming lineup.

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 05:35 AM

28.)One Bit f/Noah Cyrus - "My Way"
Non-album single
Chart Run: 43-36-32-30-27-26-28-... (7 weeks)

Despite there being a weird choice for a sample, this solidifies Noah as another versatile artist who can become a staple in the dance community. She has the right attitude and style for it, so why not?

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 05:37 AM

27.) Cash Cash f/Nikki Vianna - "Jewel"
Non-album single
Chart Run: 47-42-33-31-31-27-27-... (7 weeks)

We seem to be having a lot of songs with similar chart runs lately. Cash Cash continue their long and arduous run through the world of future bass with this one not sounding much like them and more like The Chainsmokers than the last two singles. All My Love went to #1, can this follow suit?

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 05:40 AM

26.) Meghan Trainor - "No Excuses"
Lead single, TBA
Chart Run: 45-37-35-35-30-26-... (6 weeks)

Well this is refreshing. This is by far one of Meghan's most modern-sounding song to date, and all this coming from a lead single of a new era! While she's past the heyday of All About That Bass, she continues to deliver some fresh tunes and I'm glad she's back.

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 05:43 AM

Chart Contender Of The Week #3: George Ezra - "Paradise"

With what is said to be his best song yet. A fun, light and summery song, he proves everyone wrong that he doesn't do just sappy MOR songs. And THANK GOD for that. We don't need another "Blame It On Me".

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 05:47 AM

25.) Jax Jones f/Ina Wroldsen - "Breathe"
3rd single, TBA
Chart Run: 36-21-12-6-3-1-3-4-4-5-5-7-7-9-12-14-18-22-25-... (19 weeks)

Jax really loves food items. The Tic Tacs are just another item in the cart, but it definitely is the most popular out of them.

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 05:49 AM

24.) Breathe Carolina & Dropgun f/Kaleena Zanders - "Rhythm Is A Dancer"
Non-album single
Chart Run: 39-35-32-29-21-17-14-9-5-4-5-6-10-15-24-... (15 weeks)

Let it be known that Breathe Carolina had not made such an infectious song like this since they transitioned to full on dance. Spinnin' Records outdoing itself again!

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 05:55 AM

23.) Logic & Marshmello - "Everyday"
3rd single, Bobby Tarantino II
Chart Run: 39-34-28-23-... (4 weeks)

A bit of a motivational anthem, making use of Marshmello's newfound prowess for making urban sounding music. Logic pulls this off really well, it's almost as if he's channeling The Lonely Island's "Like A Boss".

Have you heard Cash Cash's new single? It's still sort of future bass but more of a Cash Cash sound than Jewel was (and I sitll loved Jewel laugh.gif). The vocalist is someone I've never heard of but gives me Sia vibes too

Logic & Marshmelloe! wub.gif

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 06:01 AM

22.) Kendrick Lamar & SZA - "All The Stars"
Lead Soundtrack single, Black Panther: The Album
Chart Run: 45-37-32-24-22-... (5 weeks)

The Black Panther movie has become a global phenomenon. So has Kendrick Lamar. So it would make sense that both of those combined would be a pretty deadly combination. One more Black Panther song appears.

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 06:05 AM

21.) Bruno Mars & Cardi B - "Finesse (Remix)"
4th single, 24k Magic
Chart Run: 5-2-3-3-4-4-6-6-7-11-12-14-17-21-... (14 weeks)

Dropping out of the top 20 already seems a little excessive for a song as big as this but getting trampled by all those huge debuts really took a toll on its position. Nonetheless it's another stellar performance from Cardi B and one that will surely stick with everyone.

We're drippin' in finesse and getting paid, eeeeooooowwwww.

Flashback Of The Week #3: the #1 song of 2015

And it topped the first ever countdown special too!

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 06:18 AM

20.) Nocturnal Tapes - "Is It Too Late"
Lead single, Visions IV EP
Chart Run: 50-41-30-23-20-... (5 weeks)

Just another BJSC entry on its way into the top 20 and beyond. It's a refreshing entry from an artist from the land down under... so why isn't it getting as much recognition?

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 06:21 AM

19.) Logan Henderson - "Bite My Tongue"
Non-album single
Chart Run: 43-29-23-20-20-19-... (6 weeks)

Just adding to the throwbacks is Logan Henderson, who you may know from a band called Big Time Rush. If you were a kid in the early 2010's and you don't know Big Time Rush then... I'm scared for you. This is the only one of the boys' solo singles that has charted.

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 06:24 AM

18.) BTS f/Desiigner - "Mic Drop (Steve Aoki Remix)"
2nd single, Love Yourself 承 'Her'
Chart Run: 49-46-43-27-11-4-1-2-2-2-3-4-4-6-9-11-12-14-18-... (20 weeks)

From one boy band to another. Highest K-pop song? Oh for sure. These boys made it big a couple months ago with their US TV debut performing DNA and it's only been up ever since. This is a contender for the #1 song of 2018: can they do it?

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 06:26 AM

17.) Tove Styrke - "Mistakes"
Non-album single
Chart Run: 47-40-37-34-31-27-22-17-15-13-8-7-7-9-11-17-... (16 weeks)

It's really been the year of random charters. With a wobbly chorus and a nicely weird structure, Swedish songbird Tove Styrke (not to be confused with Tove Lo) has managed to hold her own against some big names.

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 06:29 AM

16.) Maroon 5 - "Wait"
4th single, Red Pill Blues
Chart Run: 47-43-37-31-28-24-25-20-16-18-16-... (11 weeks)

Oh let's face it Adam, you were probably waiting for this moment. This has managed to stick around for a pretty long time despite it being a more generic single of theirs.

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 06:32 AM

Chart Contender Of The Week #4: Why Don't We - "Trust Fund Baby"

Like I said, it's pretty weird to see them and think about the consequences they must have faced when people connected them to Logan Paul. Luckily this didn't faze them. Can this take over like their previous single did?

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 06:44 AM

15.) Sean Paul & David Guetta f/Becky G - "Mad Love"
6th single, TBA
Chart Run: 40-32-22-19-15-... (5 weeks)

The third Guetta song here, and it may actually be a #1 contender in the near future. It's electrifying and hot, and it's exactly what I needed if Guetta were to ever go for the moombahton route.

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 06:47 AM

14.) Virtual Self - "Ghost Voices"
2nd single, Virtual Self EP
Chart Run: 35-26-21-16-14-... (5 weeks)

It was a bit unprecedented, but Porter Robinson created an alias for himself, got to making a game, and finally made an EP with songs that belong on Dance Dance Revolution. Ghost Voices is arguably the most commercial but I wouldn't be surprised if it made it on the game.

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 06:49 AM

13.) Camila Cabello - "Never Be The Same"
2nd single, Camila
Chart Run: 42-41-36-34-34-29-23-20-16-16-15-12-13-... (13 weeks)

Yay for another song that has stuck around for almost a lifetime and yet has not gone top 10. Will this get to top 10 eventually? Can it set a record?

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 06:51 AM

12.) 5 Seconds Of Summer - "Want You Back"
Lead single, Youngblood
Chart Run: 39-27-22-19-13-12-... (6 weeks)

The boys of 5SOS were among the biggest artists of 2014 point blank, with two long reigning #2 peaking songs (despite a horrendously weak #1), but they haven't made the top 10 since. Can this song (and eventually era) crack this dry spell?

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 06:53 AM

11.) Zedd, Maren Morris & Grey - "The Middle"
3rd single, TBA
Chart Run: 1-1-1-1-2-2-3-4-5-8-10-11--... (12 weeks)

Shockingly enough, while "Stay" logged in its fifth week at #1 last year, this ends up dropping out of the top 10 this year. It also got trampled by the huge debuts but it still has a ways to go. It could end up taking the biggest song of 2018. Who knows at this point?

Flashback Of The Week #3: the #1 song of 2016

When will my boys come back from hiatus

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 02:20 PM

10.) The Weeknd & Kendrick Lamar - “Pray For Me”
3rd Soundtrack single, Black Panther: The Album
Chart Run: 38-13-1-1-2-3-4-6-8-10-... (10 weeks)

Yet another Black Panther song enters the mix, this time reaching #1 for both The Weeknd & Kendrick. For the formernit was his first #1 and for the latter, it was his first as a co-lead.

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 02:24 PM

9.) G-Eazy & Halsey - Him & I”
2nd Single, The Beautiful & Damned
Chart Run: 49-44-33-29-27-28-18-13-6-3-3-1-2-2-4-6-9-... (17 weeks)

Another #1 this time, now giving Halsey an overdue #1 after coming top 3 in three separate occasions. All three became long runners, so can this follow suit?

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 02:27 PM

8.) Gromee f/Lukas Meijer - “Light Me Up”
6th Single, Chapter One
Chart Run: 35-23-17-13-9-8-... (6 weeks)

It’s not every day that a Eurovision song (particularly one of this caliber) ends up charting, let alone reaches the top 10, but it’s still something worth celebrating.

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 02:30 PM

7.) Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa - “One Kiss”
Non-album Single
Chart Run: 7-... (1 week)

The highest debut this week comes from the return of Calvin Harris, teaming up with Dua Lipa for a garage-sounding track. This is his best chance at getting #1, which will be his first since How Deep Is Your Love.

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 02:33 PM

6.) Justin Timberlake - “Supplies”
2nd Single, Man Of The Woods
Chart Run: 42-37-33-25-19-14-8-8-5-4-6-... (11 week)

It’s always a bit weird that the floppiest single becomes the biggest one here, but I expected nothing less from a Pharrell production.

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 02:35 PM

Chart Contender Of The Week #5: The Weeknd - "Call Out My Name"

Not that we expected anything less from a clone of Earned It.

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 02:40 PM

5.) Imagine Dragons - “Whatever It Takes”
3rd Single, Evolved
Chart Run: 50-44-37-36-34-33-32-29-25-23-19-11-5-1-1-3-5-5-... (18 weeks)

Another long-lasting Imagine Dragons song that give the band their first #1 in five years. It kinda makes up for Believer not reaching #1.

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 02:42 PM

4.) Niall Horan - “On The Loose”
4th Single, Flicker
Chart Run: 42-29-21-17-13-11-7-4-... (8 weeks)

Niall Horan has been casually slaughtering the competition with his REM-sounding tracks. Could this be his best performance yet?

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 02:43 PM

3.) SDJM & Conor Maynard - “That Way”
Non-album Single
Chart Run: 44-38-36-30-23-17-10-6-3-1-3-3-... (12 weeks)

90’s nostalgia and Conor Maynard, what’s not to love about this track?

Flashback Of The Week #5: the #1 song of 2017

a bit of a spoiler but oh well

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 02:47 PM

2.) Hailee Steinfeld & BloodPop - “Capital Letters”
4th Soundtrack Single, Fifty Shades Freed
Chart Run: 41-32-24-19-10-9-7-2-2-... (9 weeks)

The best of the soundtrack songs this week comes from Fifty Shades Freed, the last of the Fifty Shades trilogy. Both artists have snagged a #1 before but fall short this time, so who blocked them?

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 02:50 PM

1.) Marshmello & Anne-Marie - “Friends”
5th Single, Speak Your Mind
Chart Run: 39-23-14-10-2-1-1-... (7 weeks)

Yeah, it was pretty obvious that the #2 song didn’t stand a chance amongst one of the strongest #1’s this year. That makes 2 for 2 for Marshmello. No change in the top 3 this time!

Posted by: Berrier Cody Apr 20 2018, 02:51 PM
