BuzzJack Music Forum _ UK Charts _ Friday Chart Predictions (Thurs Update + Top 5 Sales)

Posted by: Mart!n 5th September 2015, 12:30 PM

Sigala are looking at a #1 single this week with their debut track "Easy Love" sampling Michael Jackson's hit 'ABC' also Justin Bieber might still be in contention for a second week at #1 with stream sales in his favour. Other key single releases this week come from Kygo with 'Here For You' this time the vocals are supplied by Ella Henderson, already has a #1 single under her belt with 'Ghost' last year. R. City collaborating with Adam Levine lead singer of Maroon 5 on 'Locked Away', Foxes with 'Better Love' and Drake with 'Hotline Bling' aiming to chart inside the top 40. Also bear in mind with X Factor been transmitted over the weekend, we could see the odd old track re-appearing back in the top 40 singles chart.

After just 1 week at #1 The Weeknd is facing tough competition this week from rock group legends Iron Maiden with their brand new studio album 'The Book Of Souls'. Other key album releases this week come from Troye Sivan 'Wild' (EP), Five Finger Death Punch 'Got Your Six', Travis Scott 'Rodeo', Oh Wonder 'Oh Wonder', Etherwood 'Blue Leaves', The Wonder Years 'No Closer To Heaven', The View 'Ropewalk' and everyone's favourite Norwegian band who had catchy classic single hits 'Take On Me', 'The Sun Always Shines On TV' and they also sang the James Bond theme track to the The Living Daylights we welcome the return of a-Ha with their brand new studio album 'Cast In Steel'.

I'm sure if an EP has 6 or more tracks it's album chart eligible. His last EP didn't chart and that only had 5 tracks so that makes sense

Posted by: Brett-Butler 5th September 2015, 03:10 PM

According to the http://www.officialcharts.com/media/319098/official-uk-charts-album-chart-rules-april-2013.pdf, in order for a digital release to by classified as an album, it must

1) Have a dealer price (the price it's "sold" to the online store) of at least £3.75
2) Longer than 25 minutes and/or more than four songs
3) Not qualify as a maxi or remix single as defined by singles eligibility.

So based on this, would it qualify?

Posted by: AcerBen 5th September 2015, 03:28 PM

It's being sold for less than £3.94 so it's unlikely the dealer price would be that high. I don't know whether digital only EPs are eligible for the budget album chart?

Maybe it's time they did an EP chart!

I think that's mainly due to its substantial pre-orders (I'm pretty sure they were at least 5k+). It'll likely drop off over the week.

I wonder if Jess Glynne could challenge for the #1 spot in the album chart given her performance on Strictly seems to have given her quite the boost on iTunes? She should remain pretty stable sales-wise at least.

Very little chance of that. Iron Maiden has been the No. 1 best seller on Amazon for a couple of weeks based on pre-orders alone - and that's just the deluxe edition, not even counting the basic edition, special edition vinyl or downloads. They have this one in the bag, and rightfully so.

Posted by: SKOB 6th September 2015, 02:07 PM

Iron Maiden's previous album opened with 44k and they have not lost their popularity at all. Wouldn't be surprised if they reached 50k.

For those who are lazy and can't be asked to scroll through the update tongue.gif

Ella Eyre is at 19 with Feline
Taylor Swift is at 38 with Wildest Dreams
Troye Sivan is at 3 with the WILD - EP and at 62 with the title song
Carly Rae Jepsen is at 67 with Run Away With Me
Foxes is at 89 with Better Love

Have to say, as much as I love Foxes and almost everything she's put out, this song is very weak and probably the worst of hers so far, unfortunately sad.gif

Interesting to see how it goes (it was #74 on Spotify last time I looked)

Sales gap looks big enough for Sigala to take the #1 fairly easily this week but unfortunately a 2 week #1 looks very slim from where things stand right now.
Great to see Galantis scoring another top 10 hit cheer.gif iTunes stability should mean they stay top 10 for the full week too funky.gif

Thank goodness Felix is stabilizing a little biggrin.gif and hopefully Kygo stays top 20.
Wild at #62 :') the BJSC mods certainly made the right decision to veto Mr. Sivan heehee.gif

Loving the Carly re-entry and the Hula Hoop entry too. DJ Snake and AJ are a bit low for my liking but look how floppy Avicii is doing cry.gif
And that Green Day song has entered just a little too early kink.gif

They've sold 85 million albums and sell out stadiums all over the world, as they have done for nearly 40 years. It's hardly surprising.

Bieber closed the gap by 4 K in one day. With 3 days left that means it will be VERY close on Friday.

Justin's closing in on iTunes too so I'd imagine he'll have outsold Sigala by even more today!

Projecting the sales on what they sold yesterday gives the Bieber a ~100 or so lead by Friday. But I still think Sigala will just about make it as their streaming appears to be consolidating now.

Yes very true! I don't mind the Sigala track at all but I'd much rather Justin spent a second week there myself. Nice to see there's more of a battle than most of us first thought for the #1 spot though!

Oh dear! Didn't expect Sigala to have a chance of missing out, serves them right for putting it out at least a month after demand peaked.

Those Iron Maiden album sales are exceptional and Jess Glynne is holding up brilliantly too!

Has Jepsen made even the slightest of upward movements?

Posted by: SLlewellyn 9th September 2015, 06:50 AM

It's little things like Sigala not being available on Apple Music that are making it easier for Bieber to catch up.

That Calvin Harris and The Weeknd are still T5 while recent number 1s by Charlie Puth and Rachel Platten have been pushed down shows that OA/OS is definitely the way forward.

Poor Carly down 1 from yesterday (For me and Aly who care).

Posted by: Mart!n 9th September 2015, 02:03 PM

The gap at the top is slowly decreasing, I think Sigala will just about hold on, Sigala seems to be selling around 8k per day, Justin has slightly decreased a bit, its going to be very close, stream sales wise Sigala on 10% and Justin Bieber on 42%

Posted by: Mango 9th September 2015, 02:05 PM

Surely 8k is too much for Justin to make up in 2 days? It's going to be close though!

Given he's already caught up by 7.5K in 2 days it isn't out of the question but I do think it'll just be a little too much. Winning margin this week will be <1000 copies.

Posted by: JosephBieber 9th September 2015, 02:08 PM

Bearing in mind there's also missing streaming data where Justin is further ahead by quite a way! It's not impossible for Justin to keep #1 but I can see Sigala keeping it, just about.

Yup! Might slip one place to #16 if Pia Mia overtakes but otherwise it'll stay put. Having good longevity in the top 20 biggrin.gif

Posted by: Mart!n 9th September 2015, 02:43 PM

R City are at #42, I don't think it will get any higher, its going to lose out when missing stream sales are added along with Wildest Dreams from Taylor.

Apart from Sigala and Kygo as the only new entries, and Mark Ronson and Wiz Khalifa haunting us again with Uptown Funk and See You Again, with a further track from Jess Glynne (Hold My Hand) and probably Galantis (Runaway) are the most likely suspects to linger in the bottom end of the 40.

Apparently a "big name" artist is dropping their album at the Apple Event tonight ohmy.gif

Posted by: liamk97 9th September 2015, 02:49 PM

I'm equally quite liking 'Easy Love' and 'What Do You Mean?' so either being #1 would be fine, but it Bieber is looking likely to be #1 in its third week, I'd rather he'd stay on top.

Hopefully Iron Maiden can hit 60k. Incredible that Jess Glynne looks likely to be just 3k down on its sales week-on-week; I know she received a good boost from Strictly but she's held up well regardless.

It is having decent Top 20 longevity but I was expecting it to have that in the Top 10 following the video - dare I say it, in terms of chart run, it's becoming a little bit "non-number one" for me. That said, I keep hearing it all the time on radio, TV and clubs, so, in that sense, including all the media interest in 1D right now, it very much deserves its #1 status. Have they promoted the song in the UK yet?

I definitely wouldn't consider it even close to a non-#1 myself, I think it would probably have to be near the bottom of the top 40 by now for me to think that (a la Cheryl's I Don't Care, for example). I did expect it to go back into the top 10 but I guess if we compare with Steal My Girl, that eventually had pretty good TV promotion whereas this hasn't had an ounce in the UK yet (and only one worldwide performance I think, excluding the tour). Not sure if it actually will get any more promo now, they'll most likely promote single #2 over here on X Factor and the like. I think it was always gonna end up with an odd run due to it being OA/OS!

I just prefer #1s to have some staying power near the top of the charts so seeing it leave the Top 10 so quickly and fail to return makes me view it as such. Perhaps I'm just too strict, because it'll still be Top 40 in 2-3 months time. Kinda 'She Looks So Perfect'-esque.

I'm actually for Bieber to hold on! I don't care about any song but it would be nice if an OA/OS song on its second week held off the massively a song that should have been released at least a month ago. It would be even more important if the talks about how labels are going to ditch OA/OS again are true.

I'd like Justin to hold on too actually, I love and did buy Easy Love this week but it would be a fantastic middle finger up to the bloody radio stations and record labels who think it's fair to hold back a song for three months (waits for Easy Love to win the battle by one sale).

undoubtedly, ministry of sound have been using the pent up demand to flog compilations, with album only versions of 'easy love', for the last month ~ there's a better mark up on a >£9.99 compilation album than a 99p download, but there's a very strong chance it's going to cost them a #1 now nocheer.gif
