Analysis

A very active week this week in both charts…the album chart has just one new entry but…it tops the chart!!! 14 albums slide down the chart, many of them to new lows including the two best albums of 2006, The Veronicas and Carrie Underwood who start to loosen their grip on the chart both sliding two places…3 albums don’t budge, including former huge No.1’s from Kelly Clarkson and Shakira!!! Rogue Traders and Nerina both slide just outside the top 5 while the big 5 starts with Jewel who slides to 5th place…Nerina drops to No.4 from No.1 last week with Fires while Infernal jump to No.3 with From Paris to Berlin…Eurovision 2006 doesn’t budge at No.2 which means that there is a brand new entry at No.1 from Scottish singer Sandi Thom!!!

The singles chart sees four new entries; all outside the top 10 and courtesy of Gnarls Barkley, Jewel and Rihanna whose Unfaithful is the highest debut at No.11!!! Elsewhere outside the top 10 there is a climb from Bob Sinclar and Kelly Clarkson’s Breakaway sticks at No.14. Infernal and Nerina’s Idaho leave the top 10…The top 10 starts with Infernal’s A to the B which moves from No.15 while Carola dips to No.9 after 10 weeks in the top 10…Nerina’s Alien shoots up to 8th place while Nylon move up to No.7 with Losing a friend!!! Rogue Traders and Nerina move down slightly at No.6 and 5 respectively while Shakira spends her 15th week in the top 20 at a new peak position of No.4!!! Daz Sampson drops to No.3 after 3 weeks in control with Teenage Life while Sandi Thom surges from No.6 to No.2 with her UK No.1 single; I wish I was a punk rocker…this means that climbing again and this time to the top, its Canadian singer Nelly Furtado with Maneater…Whoa Nelly!!!
