From the OCC 14/2/20
The best-selling singles of all time on the Official UK Chart
Every million-selling song in the UK counted down.

They're the very top of the pops – the UK's million-selling singles, the tracks that have achieved one million paid-for sales, whether they be physical singles or downloads. It's still a relatively rare feat, with currently only 178 songs making it to seven figures. [No streams]

Not all of them managed to make it to Number 1 – 28 million-sellers never hit the top spot – but they've earned their place in British pop history.

Way out in front, with 4.93 million sales is Elton John's double-A Candle in the Wind 97/Something About the Way You Look Tonight, released after the death of Diana, Princess of Wales. Another charity record is in second, the original Band Aid with Do They Know It's Christmas? on 3.8 million, and the next five songs have all sold over two million copies.

The OCC list on 19/9/17 gave the following titles as just short of a million SALES.

SEXY AND I KNOW IT LMFAO 5 - 999,080
GRENADE BRUNO MARS 1 - 997,862
NEVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP RICK ASTLEY 1 - 997,005
PARADISE COLDPLAY 1 - 995,808
MY WAY FRANK SINATRA 5 - 991,563
HELP THE BEATLES 1 - 987,769
DON'T LOOK BACK IN ANGER OASIS 1 - 987,063
IRIS GOO GOO DOLLS 3 - 975,953
MR BRIGHTSIDE KILLERS 10 - 967,180

Of those titles only the Beatles Help is still short of a million UK sales, but it has surpassed one million when streams are added on.

I’m very happy to see a list like this just to see how much streaming has affected in recent years.

Every single Beatles song outsold by a song from 2013: it's phenomenal how big "Happy" was.

And to be honest, it could still reach 2 million.

can someone estimate how far Children by Robert Miles is far from making the list? I read somewhere that it's 1M seller with streams added, but I don't think streams are big for this song actually so it may be not far from 1M on pure sales alone

It's great that the OCC publish updates to this all-time list every now and then, but would it really hurt for them to publish the recorded total sales to-date against each entry? It's such an obvious omission. They can't claim that the full data is sensitive, as for their update of September 2017 people like me couldn't believe their luck, as they provided to-the-latest-unit figures for all tracks on the list, as well as breaking-down the figures for biggest on pure sales and on streaming equivalents. Really interesting for those who care about the transition of the market from paid-for purchasing to audio/video rented streaming. Also, it would help if they chose to provide such updates at a more statistically-significant cut-off point, so for example 1 January 2020 following the end of the 2010s on 31 Dec '19, or possibly 1 Jan '21 as the actual calendrical decade runs from Jan '11 to Dec '20? It seems they just do what they fancy when they fancy it and the inconsistency is irritating. But I suppose better some sort of update at some random point than none at all, which for so many years was the case even after the launch of their online site.

I guess it came from a time when download sales were really high. It was the 4th biggest seller of 2011 and 9 out of the top 10 for that year are now in this list with a few more from outside it.

It’s still an average song though and it’s unsettling to see it higher than Can’t Get You Out Of My Head.

Other than that I love this list. Such an improvement on the ‘millionaires’ list.

I hope we get an update on the millionaires list soon as well, having both lists and perhaps a third list for streaming only to compare the different eras would be nice to have.

I wonder if Avicii will ever be able to make top 40 here anyhow, he is outselling the three songs above on iTunes by a considerable margin but sales are so minimal these days.
