Sunday Chart Predictions
Predicting the 18/01 to 24/01 chart

Sia's elastic heart to ping her into the Top 40
'Uptown Funk' is heading for its fifth week at #1 this week - a feat last that last occurred not too long ago when 'Blurred Lines' managed it in June/July 2013. New entries to the Top 40 should include Sia's 'Elastic Heart' following the release of its apparently controversial video last week, Avicii's 'The Nights', The Prodigy's On Air/On Sale comeback 'Nasty' and Kodaline's 'All I Want' - originally released in 2012 however this would be its first appearance in the Top 40, thanks to a performance on The Voice UK.

It's another quiet affair in the albums, with again Sam Smith, George Ezra and Ed Sheeran battling for the #1 spot. Google Play deals and other discounts should see more albums re-enter/climb the Top 40.

The Nights music video was released approx. 4 weeks ago, hence that's why it entered my chart 8 bi-weeks ago (4 weeks) tongue.gif

It's been banging around Spotify ever since smile.gif

Anyone think the top 2 will be non-movers for a third week or will Ed Streamrun pip the #2 spot AGAIN drama.gif

The Nights is #39 on iTunes and #135 on Spotify UK drama.gif (It was one place behind Lips weeks ago when Lips entered the chart on only streams at #89! And The Nights didn't enter the top 200 that weeks? huh.gif)

Posted by: JosephStyles 13th January 2015, 10:15 AM

Surely Hozier's got #3 on lock? Safely ahead of Ed on iTunes and just behind him on Spotify, almost #3 on iTunes with its top version too.

Posted by: James Silkstone 13th January 2015, 11:33 AM

Take Me To Church has iconic #2 written all over it tbh.

Posted by: pippa 13th January 2015, 11:36 AM

I too believe Hozier could eventually make number 1, a Brit performance for example if it happens could see it reach the summit. A top 3 peak will happen and i would predict it will be a future million seller.

Posted by: gooddelta 13th January 2015, 11:36 AM

I don't think it will get past Uptown Funk until both are much lower in the chart.

It's all about performance! Though I prefer Uptown Funk so much more than Hozier, it would be a worthy track to reach #1 after we get tired of it being #1 laugh.gif Also if it maintains its performance it will be a 1m seller but it all depends on how long it will take to sell 1m. It could be this year or in 10 year's time! ohmy.gif

You never know. Happy fought bravely while Rather Be was #1 all that time and STILL managed the #1 spot a couple more times. Though Happy is a weak comparison to Hozier this is only an example teresa.gif

Posted by: slowdown73 13th January 2015, 11:47 AM

I think no1 and no2 will stay the same this week. The charts are very boring right now. No decent new songs coming out neither in next few weeks.

Thank goodness for a moment there I thought TOL was performed on every TV show and every channel and forced everyone to download it drama.gif

tbh Hozier top 5 was expected anyway laugh.gif

If it is #5 now I bet it will be #4 if not #3 by the end thinking.gif

Posted by: ¡bré! 13th January 2015, 12:45 PM

The top 2 will definitely be non-movers I'd think. Philip George is still miles ahead of everyone else (bar Mark of course) on iTunes and he's now top 5 on Spotify as well, so it's not like Hozier has a huge streaming advantage over him. Hozier could be #3 although it wouldn't surprise me if Ed does cling on there for one more week.

EDIT: Was initially thinking it looked like there's some streaming data missing but actually on further inspection I don't think there is, just surprising to see 'Thinking Out Loud' dropping so much. Hozier will be safely #3 then.

Don't ask me who Sylosis and Panda Bear are, Google is your best friend. They will disappear tomorrow

Wow Mark heading for the 100k again biggrin.gif

I'm betting Blank Space will end at #6 or #7 obv with no streaming drama.gif

Can I please have whatever track is at #6? Is it TOL? If it is I bet TOL will end at #4 as always it ends one or two places above its midweek drama.gif laugh.gif

Heroes still staying around the 6-10 range! cheer.gif I hope it will do what Outside has been doing cheer.gif wub.gif

Wow at the Blond track nearly in the top 10 ohmy.gif was it performed somewhere or is it 59p? thinking.gif

Suspected it wouldn't enter the top 40 yet. It only appeared on iTunes a few days ago laugh.gif

And there was no release date on the schedule thread along with no greyed out pre's position on iTunes.

Hope it gets into the top 40 by Sunday please.gif

Ouch at those low album sales. Pleased that 'Cool Kids' is still climbing. And amazing to see two Sia singles in the Top 20 biggrin.gif would never in a million years have predicted the longevity that 'Chandelier' has shown, really good to see!

Posted by: ¡bré! 13th January 2015, 01:02 PM

It looks like George, Sam and Ed will each have had another turn at #1 on the album chart within the first 3 weeks of 2015 laugh.gif I was sort of expecting Sam to be #1 again this week since he was relatively quite far ahead last week, but it's looking like Ed is the dominant one of the 3 this week. They'll almost certainly make up the top 3 for a third week in a row in any case.

Gregory Porter's album potentially looking at a new peak again with this re-release - its current peak is #12 and he may be the sort to climb throughout the midweeks.

Assuming Carole King's album is a new Google Play 99p offer?

TT #21 with 'These Days' and #16 with 'III'.

And I think the top 3 albums will get a boost after Thurs biggrin.gif BRITs announcement this Thursday... nominations. The top 3 is guaranteed between them, but in which order they fall on Sunday its a lottery

Posted by: slowdown73 13th January 2015, 01:06 PM

Midweek sales for no1 and no2 single are virtually the same as last week so Ronson is showing no signs of slowing down.

I visited the official top 100 singles.Meghan was 10 so assuming you are correct she is still #10.

You also said TOL is #6, the update states Heroes is #7 and you said SIN is down 1 (to #9.)

So Promesses is only #8

By the way I usually edit the update post when I quote it to only quote what I'm commenting on. To tell me to 'stop' usually means that I keep doing it, when I just forgot to edit it this time unsure.gif (Sorry! sad.gif)

Beyonce down 2 places, Jessie Ware not even top 100, anyhow the album would have been listed in the 40 as a climber if it was in the 40.

Olly Murs is managing to stay a firm top 5 among stable hits and instant grats.

Posted by: HausofKubrick 13th January 2015, 05:16 PM

Fab positions for both Sia tracks. 'Elastic Heart' must be doing well on streams too then to hold up that strong a position. Apologies if it's been answered before but any particular reason why 'Chandelier' is so high again? Is it off the back of 'Elastic Heart' hype or is it 59p? unsure.gif

Hoping '1000 Forms of Fear' can get top 10 too!

And The Nights didn't enter the top 200 that weeks? huh.gif)

I'm pretty sure you were looking at the international Spotify chart.

Amazing what an effect the Voice performance of 'All I Want' has had on Kodaline's single and album! Couldn't have come at a better time too, with their brand new single out in a few weeks and building up airplay.

How exactly is the performance of a song on your personal bi-weekly chart relevant to this topic?

to be fair I think the Ella situation wasn't her fault, it was written on the piece of paper she got given by the producers.

Let's hope Avicii, All Time Low and The Prodigy can sneak into the top 40 this Sunday and let's also hope that Meghan Trainor's new song can climb in on streams alone like "All About That Bass" did

The Prodigy aren't going to come close to the top 40 by the looks of things unfortunately, they're not even top 100 today. They might have had a chance if it was a single release but as I feared it seems a very high proportion of their 'sales' are actually just album pre-orders. Ah well, as long as the album sells well ~

It would have been good for them to have another hit single though (It still could be, of course). I really don't like the strategy of releasing your lead single as an instant grat.

Tchami still top 10 too wub.gif

Avicii top 50 biggrin.gif Already set to outpeak The Days then (not surprising considering that wasn't released to iTunes)

So Mark Ronson is still on course to sell ~130k again this week, with Philip George set for a modest sales increase. Most satisfying Blonde nearly back in the top ten after almost being pushed out of the top forty over Chrimbo. Hopefully Avicii can sneak into the top forty by Sunday! heart.gif

I would love it if Panda Bear could somehow nab that top forty album smash! music.gif

Blonde may be benefiting from being on a advert for a dance compilation CD that I've seen quite a few times, but aside from that its just rising due to older songs that increased over Christmas falling back again I think.

So does Philip George, they are at #2 and #4 on the Spotify chart respectively. Given "Wish You Were Mine" is currently extending its lead over "Take Me To Church" there is absolutely zero chance it will swap places. Hozier are a lock for #3 but they won't be any higher on Sunday.

In regards to Blonde's 'I Loved You', it's not really received a boost as such, more like its sales are stable: it sold 17k at #31 then 18.5k when it climbed to #19 and I reckon its sales when it was #29 and #35 were about 16/17k too.

Anyway, of marginal interest is that Mark Ronson has actually sold (and streamed) marginally more to COP Tuesday this week than last week. I don't think it'll be sustained, but it suggests a minor fall (~-5%) in chart sales this week. Very impressive for a song 6 weeks into its chart life and having sold well over half a million copies already.

I Loved You's run is remisnicent to Back To Black (the album). It entered at 3, dropped quickly, then climbed back up again.

I was going to mention that but didn't (because I'm not a modifier).

But anyway in this context 'are' would be for multiple persons and 'is' for singular.

But if there were unknown numbers of members in an artist what would we say? thinking.gif

The Kid Ink song (Chris Brown is just a featured artist) is an instant grat so a chunk of its iTunes sales will be album pre-orders, which don't count to the chart. That explains why it's so low.

It's too early to say really. Top 3 seems very likely if Radio 1 get behind it, but it may have already peaked by the time Love Me Like You Do is off #1

And if Capital get on it as well

Great to see Like I Can in the top 10 at last, but Avicii & Asia will knock him out. Ugh the lack of differentiation between preorder album sales and actual single sales is annoying with Nasty & FOB official single just in the top 100!

Oh I forgot/didn't realise that, well in that case bring on Sia at least (can't bring myself to urge on Avicii)!

Posted by: SLlewellyn 15th January 2015, 07:29 PM

Sam Smith T10 again with "Like I Can" is a very pleasing prospect, though I'd prefer to Sia to sneak her way in instead. Shame that Blonde have fallen again to #14, though a climb as big as they've had this climb is still commendable.

Had hoped Fall Out Boy could make T40 with "Uma Thurman" this week, but it's not looking likely. Lots of new entries in the T100 though, which is good to see.

Posted by: Doctor Blind 15th January 2015, 07:29 PM

It'll be quite close, but I think Sia may just about sneak #10 come Sunday.

Right... this is how Friday's update works, for now we only have top 40 from MW, we know what new singles and new albums are floating under the 40, once I have more chart info later, those positions will be added to the update at some point with top 5 sales, if we get further chart info, don't forget they are not always guaranteed.

Thanks Martin, could you please tell me if Ben Haenow is still Top 10?

Wow, 'Elastic Heart' top 10. What an incredibly (deserved) huge response this has gotten already.

Thank you! I was expecting #9. Indeed he is holding up very well. This will be 5 week in the top 10 if he can hold until Sunday. I wonder which XF single was the last to do that?

James Arthur just 2 years ago tongue.gif Impossible had 7 weeks top 10.

Thank you. I was thinking Sam Bailey and Little Mix hadn't and I wondered who else before that. I forgot about James. Oops! I am happy he's doing well though. I'm hoping he can get to 500k in total we'll see smile.gif

Posted by: Hadji 16th January 2015, 12:44 PM

Avicii will most likely be top 15 on Sunday or top 10 if we're lucky

Posted by: gooddelta 16th January 2015, 12:57 PM

Sia *.*

Taking that span between solo top ten singles to 15 years (if it stays there!)

Posted by: Mart!n 16th January 2015, 01:22 PM

Right... we have top 5 sales and positions for the new tracks that are bubbling under the 40.

Currently the #41 is Idina Menzel for that Sunday play

Posted by: pippa 16th January 2015, 01:48 PM

Wonderful to see the legendary late Luther Vandross (R.I.P) have such a steady chart run with this current Greatest Hits package, it has sold very near 100,000 which is great.

All the top 5 albums this week should easily clear 10,000 which is wonderful to see for this time of year, when we consider the non existence of new releases.

Posted by: SPINUMINATI ADAM 16th January 2015, 01:49 PM

Thanks again for putting the outside top 40 entries Mart!n wink.gif

I hope to see Mark get >100k again and it looks like Ed will be denied #4 this week cheer.gif
Also THE DAYS #21 cheer.gif wub.gif we'll be seeing him in the top 15 this week biggrin.gif

Great to see Heroes hopefully #7 if not 8 and Ben doing great! cheer.gif

Also fingers crossed LIG is out of the top 40 For The First Time In Forever which looks promising since it does better on sales than streams biggrin.gif

Is Call Me Maybe or Hey Brither or any other 59p tracks re-entered the top 100? cool2.gif

I should do this week if I have time (actually the excuse is 'I forgot' kink.gif) and it will better my time allocation for updating charts rather than waiting for 7PM so I can update both sales and comb positions ATST but I don't think that saves much more time anyway laugh.gif

Also I will hopefully be listening to the show. I think it will mark the third time ever doing so laugh.gif drama.gif

Very glad to see Sia in the top ten in singles and Nicki's album back in the top fourty.

I'm hoping that Sia's album can hit the top ten at some point. Does she have any UK promo lined up?

Posted by: Noahspike 16th January 2015, 02:32 PM

Amazing to see Sia challenging for the top 10 with 'Elastic Heart' heart.gif. Who would have thought that were possible even two weeks ago?! One of her best ever songs for me.

"Let It Go" did drop out of the top 40 at one point. It re-entered due to Lauren Platt performing it on X Factor and it was used on a Xmas advert

It will be in there somewhere, it's not in the update because it's not a new entry.

I actually kinda want Let It Go to stay one more week, just for Jameela's last show kink.gif Then it can piss the hell off and never enter my ears again.

Posted by: highlander69 16th January 2015, 03:22 PM

Great to see Noel Gallagher making an appearance allbeit in the lower regions. I think it's an excellent track. Got to admit I didn't think it would be elligible. Isn't it the 2nd or 3rd(?) Instant Grat?

Come on Sia, keep that top 10! So impressive to not only do this with a song that's so old, but so long after the first single was released from her album.

I wish Rae Morris could make the top 40 though.

All instant grats have been eligible to chart for several months now (just only actual sales, 'sales' from album pre-orders do not count any more).
