New Kids On The Block confirm their position as the newest teen heart throbs in the charts with the re-issued “Hangin Tough” springing 9-1 this week just 6 weeks after their previous single “You Got It (The Right Stuff)” vacated the top slot, the shortest gap between chart toppers by the same act since John Lennon 9 years ago. That’s the good news, sadly its move to the top is accompanied by a sale of 28,500, that’s the lowest tally since BMRB took over compilation of the charts in 1969, the parent album of the same name (which serves as their debut UK release) lifts 8-6 in recognition of the fact that it now holds two UK chart toppers, that’s a new peak for it. cZBc0ncWEZk More Italo house for you up next, Vocalist Ann-Marie Smith was the 49th vocalist to audition for the group and gave them their name though it should be noted that Dawn Mitchell has been recruited to front the group and thusly appears in the video for the 49ers. “Touch Me” features two samples, Alysha’s Warren’s “Touch Me” and Aretha Franklin’s “Rock-A-Lott” which have been meshed together to give us “Touch Me” which accelerates 23-6 (21,200) now that the Christmas period has passed. It took me years to realise that there was even an '89 version of 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' - the original and 2004 versions were always on the musical channels but never that one. Not complaining as it's my least favourite incarnation of it. 1984 > 2014 > 2004 > 1989 but the original is way ahead in first. I usually see the Band Aid 2 song played in the Christmas countdowns as it’s sales mean its generally top 30 but yes it’s terrible and probably why we waited another 15 years for the next one. My favs are 1984>2004(because it’s my eras version)>2014>>>>>1989. It did mean Cliff Richard got the Xmas number one two years in a row and in 1990 this would be three years in a row 😐 Not much in the top 10 to get excited about for me though except maybe De La Soul finally getting into the top 10! Great idea for a thread though, might try and listen to the top 40s each week on mixcloud though too if someone posts a link 😀

Didn’t realise ‘Big Fun’ were another of their acts but I should have known by how terrible they are. Seems like between 1987-92 the industry were trying to find a replacement for Wham but couldn’t strike gold, they would have to wait over another year for Take That!
