New thread as the old one had 50 pages!

Looking forward to seeing what the surprise in tonight's episode involves ohmy.gif Good night for soaps what with Emmerdale's Declan/Charity storyline happening also.

I think the surprise tonight will be Peggy returning

Eastenders is on top form at the moment so I can't wait

LOL how obvious. Yasss though, legend.

Posted by: liamk97 25th September 2014, 07:00 PM

Omg I was so happy to see Peggy back! Couldn't stop smiling to myself through her scenes! She looks like Barbra's usual image but still sounds very much like the Peggy we know!

Posted by: James1987 25th September 2014, 07:05 PM

OMG!!! Was not expecting that, I was wondering if Peggy would be back for the wedding but Dominic's done it again!

I loved tonight's episode and the moment they raised a toast to Pat was great! EE back at its best, loving the past few weeks and I'm looking forward to next week now smile.gif

Is Pegs now a regular or just a one-off?

Peggy wub.gif

I'd say that was just a one off, especially since Peggy wanted Ronnie to go back rather than go herself.

I must say Ronnie looked quite like a blonde Julia Roberts with those shades on!

Posted by: T Boy 25th September 2014, 07:36 PM

Awfully panto acting from Peggy there, was she always that awful? Or is she out of practice? Either way, it would have been better if she'd made an appearance in the square if she's that bothered. I get the feeling those scenes were filmed today or something.

Yeah I thought that too! It was fab to have her on the show again but it seemed to obviously rushed and shoehorned in. She seems so set on Sharon not marrying Phil that she'll do "anything".... Other than make an appearance herself laugh.gif

Posted by: Aprilconda 25th September 2014, 08:05 PM

Peggy bloody Mitchell! rolleyes.gif

Can just say her acting was absolutely atrocious. I laughed my way through. Even Sam Womack seemed unusually bad in the two scenes.

Posted by: liamk97 25th September 2014, 08:13 PM

I thought the scenes were good! Typical Peggy, but good! Though I can see why some would think they were last minute.

Just wondering, are Peggy and Ronnie meant to be living in the same place as Grant and Sam?

The acting wasnt great by Babs but i enjoyed it all the same. I was wondering what the surprise would be and i admit i didnt pick Peggy. She will probably make another appearance after the wedding when it all goes wrong for Phil which i think will happen. Keep the surprises coming i say and im loving the holding back spoilers approach as it makes it far ore interesting to watch, i think it wouldnt be a bad move for all the soaps to do.

I wish it was a double episode tonight, I wonder what Shirley is going to do with the gun now.

Posted by: April 26th September 2014, 07:45 PM

Sharon, Miss Piggy and Aunt Sal trending on Twitter!

rotf.gif

I agree that they could've done with a double episode tonight, but it also keeps us viewers coming back too. Especially since Monday and Tuesday are usually EE's highest rating days of the week, they would no way put something major on the lowest rating day of the week.

Posted by: Slick 26th September 2014, 09:23 PM

I don't believe that Shirley cares for Phil so much all of a sudden that she'd use that gun on anybody. If she does, I'll be disappointed. The Shirley / Phil affair strand of this storyline has felt rather rushed - from the two of them reluctantly starting to get on again, to Shirley pining for Phil for a few days and the viewers led to believe that they've put everything behind them just like that (Shirley's pining itself is very out of character, so it's not really working for me.)

It does seem that with the interference of Peggy, Ronnie, Aunt Sal, Shirley and now Ian that the wedding is totally doomed - I'm interested to see what it is that stops them from marrying.

I enjoyed seeing Peggy's brief appearance, although I ruined it for myself by reading Twitter before watching the episode. It was hammy as hell but classic Peggy.

Watched it for the first time in ages last night and all I could think of was what a frigging AWFUL wedding dress Sharon had on! It was very similar to the frock that Susan Boyle wore on her audition for Britain's Got Talent!

Posted by: liamk97 27th September 2014, 09:00 PM

^I was thinking that too (well, not the SuBo comparison). It looked as if she'd been rolling around in mud puddles with it. Not my definition of "classy" as she put it.

It made me laugh when she didn't like her first hair-do for the wedding but loved the second one, even though it was pretty much exactly the same as her usual style!

Me and my sister thought that too (it was because sister was visiting that I watched EE last night). Sharon's first hair-do was fine - befitting a woman of her age (I'm a firm believer that once you are into your 40's and beyond - long hair is really a no-no anyway).

I'm quite the opposite really as I think a lot of 40+ ladies look better with long hair! tongue.gif I think short hair wouldn't flatter her shape well at all tbh. #liamknowsfashion

Actually that would be probably the best outcome. I can't see anything else working. Maybe Denny, but I don't think EE would be daring enough to have a young child shot.

Denny came to my mind after Charity's kid Noah ended up in hospital last week. But you're right, I don't think they'd dare do that.

Just a quick yay that EE passed 7m in the ratings 3 times on the Slater fire week according to BARB, including 7.4m for the actual fire - best overall since the first episode after World Cup.

Posted by: liamk97 29th September 2014, 10:26 PM

For a moment I thought Abi was going to get the "duff duff"...

The ending kind of reminded John Kennedy's assassination! Didn't exactly leave me hanging on the edge of my seat as the shooting isn't until the end of Thursday's episode/Friday's episode so I know nothing is going to come of tonight's "duff duff", but I'm still very much looking forward to tomorrow and the rest of the week. Fingers crossed it is excellent!

I don't know who will shoot Shirley but I can't see it being Sharon, Ben or Phil. I guess it's gonna be Amy.

Or Shirley shoots herself in some kind of struggle maybe as she was looking a bit scary last night, especially when it looked like she was going to shoot someone from that window!!

Love EE at the moment, still needs a good clear out of the dead wood like Fatboy (why was he even at the wedding, did I miss the part where Phil and him had a heart to heart! Hopefully Nick will come back and get rid of him!) but it's back to its best at last and I can't wait for the Xmas and anniversary build up!

They need to axe:

Billy Mitchell [Such an awful character]
Lola Pearce [I feel her character's story is done, they don't really know what to do with her now]
Alfie Moon [He's so unlikeable and Kat works MUCH better without him]
Fatboy [he's no way as good as he used to be, serves no purpose anymore]
Dexter Hartman
Tosh

Bring back / create:

Chelsea Fox, Ada Fox and Kim Fox
Carol, Chris and Jonathan Hanley [Sharon's biological family]
Emma Summerhayes [make full-time character]
Sal Martin [make full-time character]
Zainab Masood
Martin Fowler [along with Sonia moving back to the Square]

I want Kim's return to be fantastic. I want them to make Kim have a baby too (as well as the actress) she could create the comedy gold that we never got to see with Janine and Scarlet! Denise needs the Fox clan to return full time / Some of Patrick's family too (Yolande would create some fantastic Patrick scenes) ohmy.gif

Eastenders have so little long serving characters in comparison to Coronation Street and Emmerdale so I'd say Billy should stay. Also I think Perry is a capable actor, it's just the character he plays that can sometimes get on people's nerves. Got no problem with Lola and I think she too is capable of good acting, she just needs a good storyline. Alfie's becoming a nuisance of late but he's a classic character of the last decade in EE. Kat and Alfie as a couple were always much better when they had strong chemistry between them and were proper in love rather than when there's something bad happening.

Fatboy never served a purpose, but he's a damn sight better than gibberish motor mouth Dexter.

I don't agree with Sharon's biological family returning/coming into the show - that boat has long since sailed. Agreed very much that Denise needs her family back and that Martin is in need of an appearance. I think Sal works fine as a recurring character, but perhaps she could be in the show for a month of two.

ohmy.gif

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s2/eastenders/news/a600317/eastenders-to-go-live-again-for-30th-anniversary-celebrations.html

One full 30 minute live episode, all the others will have some live scenes intertwined with pre-recorded scenes.

It was 19m wasn't it? At least in the official ratings.

EDIT: IT was 16m, the 19m came from a newspaper.

I wonder will they mirror the Archie's killer reveal (cannot believe that's almost 5 years ago :/) and have the live episode as the episode where we find out who killed Lucy? That would definitely see huge ratings I imagine, most people who watch casually or record it would probably make the effort to tune in and see. Can't wait, should be great I imagine

Edit: that's a bit of a stupid post, blame my tiredness. They could just film the killer reveal as one of the live segments laugh.gif but I'm sure they'll want max hype and have the culmination of the week as the live episode and the murder reveal.

I'd be surprised if Lucy's killer wasn't revealed on the full live episode tbh! And having her killer revealed at the "duff duff" would be the most obvious place.

I'm looking forward to what else is in store for this live week! Surely a big return or two? We had Carol Jackson last time (and Sonia, Billie and Robbie), but they'll be able to top that - Grant perhaps (or Michelle fgs!! tongue.gif)? Or maybe Nick's due to return on this week?

I think the reveal could be slightly anti-climatic, but only because the media has been bigging it up. DTC said right from the beginning that it's not meant to leave viewers shocked and think "I'd never have guessed that" but more "that makes sense and it's sad".

I agree, I hope DTC can have a Diederick Santer-esque run as Executive Producer. He obviously knows what he's doing and will probably already have big plans for 2015.

After Sharon. It would be Nick Cotton as he is returning for his sixth stint. (Possibly more money)

Linda will fall pregnant next week! ohmy.gif

As for who's had the most returns, I think it's definitely out of Sharon or Nick. However when it comes to official exits, Sharon has had two (leaving in 1995 and and 2006) whereas I think Nick has had 5 official ones (1991, 1993, 1998, 2001, 2009).

Just checking Digital Spy now and there's an article saying the EE omnibus will taken off air come April 2015. However there's plans for a BBC One +1 and a 30 day catch up for BBC iPlayer.

Some others to add to the list would be Frank (Wiki says he was a guest in 1987, reintroduced as a regular in 1988-1994, was a recurring from 1995-8, then came back as a regular from 1998-2000, returned twice in 2002 and then a final time in 2005) and Peggy (1991, 1994-2003, guest 2004, 2005-2010, 2013, 2014).

More excellent storylines and twists on the way. yahoo.gif

I just knew they'd have that twist with Linda, ever since the whole 'I want another baby, Mick' thing happened.

Posted by: liamk97 2nd October 2014, 05:49 PM

I never made that association tbh! But you're right it makes sense, suppose we'll have to keep in mind little things that are mentioned as they'll end up propping up again in the future - DTC did say he's been placing little metaphorical bombs here and there which will end up leading to big things, particularly for the 30th anniversary.

We find out tomorrow, although spoilers for next week seem to indicate that it's Shirley.

Also, Abi ran over a dog. tongue.gif Perhaps this isn't her first killing...

Posted by: James1987 2nd October 2014, 08:20 PM

I really didn't like tonight's episode as I felt there should have been more screen time to Shirley/Phil/Sharon

I'm not interested in Abi/Jay or Lauren/Peter, these stories should happened at a later date as I felt there was no real build up to it except for the fact we as an audience knew it was coming...

It's a shame, as the rest of the week has been great but ill still keep watching to see what happens next

Posted by: Aphrodite 2nd October 2014, 09:42 PM

The weakest episode of the week but still enjoyable,i had a feeling that tonights episode would end that way and my bet is its shirley who got shot and she will try and get sharon locked up resulting in phil gettin her out of it and she will stick with him.

Posted by: liamk97 3rd October 2014, 04:51 PM

We should be getting another trailer soon (perhaps to advertise this month like how the last one advertised September): http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s2/eastenders/news/a601146/eastenders-lines-up-dean-wicks-stacey-branning-kiss.html#~oRErZFngyjncst

So looks like we'll see more advances in the Lucy storyline, with Abi perhaps looking more and more as a possible culprit.

The only other character I can think of, is a new market trader that was introduced a while back, with a possibility a love interest for Shabnam, is due to make his mark soon, surely... but I can't see that note to be relevant to him.

I think its martin fowler;the off screen sonia/martin marriage troubles needs him to be on screen;if its not martin it will be michelle; Dominic tc knows this show and the fowler name is a big part of it so it would be good to build the name up again, ideally both will be recast if both previous actors dont want to return.

I can't really think of who it may be, I imagine it's someone from a long while ago who has left Eastenders well behind and really has no interest in returning. Maybe it is Martin, I did find it odd how he's mentioned fairly often and Sonia is still connected to him but he hasn't been on screen yet. Although I'm sure James Alexandrou said he'd return not long ago, unless I'm mixing him up with someone else who said that idk laugh.gif

Besides, she's still IN the show on SKype!

She can't stop talking on SKype (quite a realistic depiction of modern life tbh) and then morph into a different body!

Like Liam said, it'll be someone from the past, quite distant, who has point blank refused to join and has no interest - Martin Fowler, Michelle, (couldn't be Kathy as they'd want Gillian back rather than Kathy herself), Lyne Slater, Zoe Slater, Little Moe, that charver Miller family, Charlie Slater are all possible.

That would be a good storyline, especially to have the Muslim view presented and it's not something that I recall being portrayed in a soap before (there was Hannah's anorexia in Hollyoaks but of course it's important to remember it's not the same as bulimia). Come to think of it, I remember Shabnam talking about negatively about some of the food products that were being stocked in the Minute Mart, so that's a bit of an indication.

Posted by: !Khimaros! 5th October 2014, 08:07 PM

And agreed that Rakhee (Shabnam) will do well in this storyline if it is the case, I've often thought throughout the year that she's a capable actress.

Could be seen as product placement though ...

So when Janine had no money (ridiculous) as they don't like women having money on the show, which usually only the men have, she would go do her shopping in an expensive minimart designed for small purchases, etc, throwing money away instead of getting on the nearest tube to Teso's or Lidl? laugh.gif

Some news about this year's Children in Need reveals that Eastenders will show a sketch of one character getting visited by ghosts of their past:

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/news/a604019/eastenders-strictly-tom--jerry-for-bbc-children-in-need.html#~oSYZpQDIJoUs0R

Sharon is the first that comes to my mind, what with Angie, Den and Dennis being dead in the show.

Posted by: Cameron 17th October 2014, 08:31 PM

Was the duff duff Mick recovering from Linda telling him about the rape (presuming it was not shown?) or were they randomly lying in bed? laugh.gif

Posted by: -Jay- 18th October 2014, 03:00 AM

Just lying in bed, Mick saying "I love you" and Linda replying "I love you too"! I guess it was to show they're feeling awkward/uncomfortable, Mick because he doesn't know what's wrong/if he's done something wrong, and Linda for obvious reasons.

Posted by: T Boy 18th October 2014, 07:42 AM

I hope she told him. I know it's more realistic that she'd be reluctant to say but the scenes are getting awfully repetitive now. More so because the Carters never seem to leave the pub therefore haven't given Linda a second to herself.

Posted by: Cremey 18th October 2014, 09:43 AM

I'm hoping she told him too but I don't think she did. I think what Jay said is probably right.
And like T Boy said, I'm sure it's more realistic for her to not say anything for a while longer but it won't make great TV for it to be dragged out until Christmas will it? I guess if it is dragged out for that long they can make the big reveal more explosive.

I've missed a few episodes over the last couple of weeks but do we know why the Police guy is stalking Lauren?

Posted by: T Boy 18th October 2014, 09:46 AM

I don't think so! Everything from him setting the house on fire onwards is his own fault, and he's still acting like the world owes him a living, so I'd be surprised if the audience are feeling sorry for him/are still rooting for him. Especially as he's lying to Kat and forcing Stacey to remain quiet in such an aggressive way.

He's always been an annoying character but he's become truly unlikeable. The character is really dragging down Kat too. sad.gif

I'd like Nick to be around for a while. Let's have a genuine attempt to better himself that fails. We'd be in fir great scenes with him, Dot, Charlie, Ronnie and Yvonne. In fact I'd like to see him as a support for Dot and genuinely feeling for her when we inevitably get the Jim's death storyline.

I REALLY hope Abi isn't revealed as Lucy's killer. I don't think it's any more likely to be her than it has been for any other suspect so far. So after Monday's dramatic ending with Pam revealing she murdered somebody, tonight's episode just totally glossed over that even though they were IN the episode rotf.gif

Ah yes, very odd! It's not really something that needs to be dragged out either.

I didn't realise before tonight's episode that Carol and Nick hadn't met before: Nick had left in August 1993 and Carol's first appearance was November of that year, she left in 1997, Nick returned and left in 1998 and Carol came and left in 1999!

Not surprised. Is this the part when the Carters start dropping like flies? First Stan, now Johnny. I can't see Tosh, Dean or Lee staying beyond 2015 either. I think they'll (and they should) probably re-introduce Zsa Zsa to give Tina a proper storyline.

Posted by: Liаm 14th November 2014, 04:34 PM

I think they brought in too much of the family too soon. The "core" ones of Tina, Mick, Linda, Nancy and Johnny were fine I think, maybe Lee. They could have waited a year or so to add Tosh, Stan etc. and bring back Dean (although the domestic violence and of course rape storylines have been good).

What I want to know is who the person who looked like David Walliams dressed in drag was!

I was a little disappointed with their group performance considering how fantastic the 2007-9 ones were. Can't work out if it was a live performance or not though - the filming and the sense of uncertainty with the characters made it look live but the vocals had obviously been edited a lot. Plus I think the 1D performance came straight after so there wouldn't have been time to get rid of all the cameras and actors.

EDIT: Just re-watched and it's certainly not live! tongue.gif I actually really enjoyed it second time round, but again it's not as good as past performances have been.

He won't be, if he's leaving at the end of his contract, it sounds like Ben Hardy has quit.

It's a shame that he's leaving again tbh. I don't particularly rate the actor but it doesn't seem right that there will be neither of the Beale twins in the show. I suppose there's still Jane, Bobby, Cindy and Beth to help Ian keep the Beale flame burning, plus with Martin coming back and with Sonia still in the show, it kind of revives the Beale-Fowler clan which was the main family at the beginning.

When the character inevitably returns, he'll probably be played by yet another actor which is another reason I'm not keen on Peter leaving.

Mick has found the truth out now though by phoning the clinic's number? She won't be able to lie her way out of this one.

It's fairly obvious now that Buster is Mick's dad and possibly also Dean's dad. Buster said the best night of his life was 1966 and Mick was born in 67. Obviously Dean doesn't know about Mick's true paternity, hence he's jumped to the conclusion of him being his dad.

So either Buster is just Mick's dad or both Mick and Dean's dad.

That can't be right, there's no way Mick is meant to be 47 years old! I think Mick is meant to be 37, the same age that Linda is said to be.

On a separate note, are Mick/Linda meant to have had their kids really early? Lee turned 22 this week, while it was recently mentioned that Linda is 37 (Stan queried whether Linda's odd behaviour was down to menopause and Mick angrily replied "shut it, she's only 37!". So Linda would have only been 15 when they had Lee. Also Nancy recently turned 21, so Linda would have been 16 having her.

And Abi needs to be killed off as quick as for bad acting.

I was meaning to post this! ohmy.gif Also Peter in the allotment where Lucy's phone and purse was buried.

Someone posted this on DS:

Trailer: Denise at the floorboard - Show: Jane at the floorboard
Trailer: Lauren cleaning a bloody shirt - Show: Max cleaning up blood in the car lot
Trailer: Peter digging in the allotment - Show: Denise digging in the allotment
Trailer: Ian pouring 'sugar' into a cup - Show: Peter supplying Lucy with cocaine

ohmy.gif Although Lauren's shirt looks more like red wine than blood to me. We still have the Max taking out rubbish and Jane cleaning the car equivalents to come then? Also, the two people in the square at the start.

I feel like Barbara Windsor is already at that stage where her returns are no longer creating much buzz. This will be her third one-off appearance so far - they've all been too frequent and have contributed nothing.

The actor playing Peter Beale is f***ing awful. I'm finding it difficult to muster up sympathy.

I think Ben Hardy gets too much hate on here, I really don't see anything particularly wrong with his acting. When he first started, yes, but no problems this year for me.

I'm glad Tosh is gone, one character I won't miss

Posted by: troylovesmusic 11th December 2014, 08:21 PM

Is Tosh actually gone though ? I hope it's the last we see of her but I have feeling it's not.

Posted by: liamk97 11th December 2014, 08:38 PM

Yeah, tonight was her last: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s2/eastenders/news/a616022/eastenders-tosh-leaves-show-following-tina-carter-break-up.html#~oYaPXyuPKlY5Ud

Kind of surprising as there was room for more development in the story, i.e Tosh's relationship with her parents and what made her the way she is. But it's nice to see a shorter storyline and it was a satisfactory ending.

Posted by: jase. 11th December 2014, 11:40 PM

I felt they had more ground to cover, especially with Tosh's background. Shame.

Posted by: Liаm 11th December 2014, 11:55 PM

I'm not sure if I'm glad she's gone or not laugh.gif In a way I am because she wasn't the best chsracter or actress ever but there was probably more to explore. However, that's pretty much the ending I'd want if I were to have my way so it's a satisfactory conclusion.

Can they not go down the Tina and Sonia route though PLEASE? laugh.gif

Posted by: pippa 12th December 2014, 12:01 PM

Tosh going is disappointing, that said i was not a huge fan of her but there was real potential to do the domestic abuse storyline among 2 women and i feel they should have developed this storyline please do not put Sonia and Tosh together. With Martin back it would be a daft direction for the storyline.

A character to die on New Year's Day! Definitely Emma I think.

Also, the Lucy killer suspect list will be cut down to 11 people after New Year's Day

Posted by: Christmas 20th December 2014, 12:18 AM

FatBoy or Dexter. Otherwise don't bother.

Posted by: Liаm 20th December 2014, 01:26 AM

Please not Emma sad.gif Hopefully one of the suspects if they're narrowing it down, but then tbf I guess even if it was say Abi or Max or Whitney for example we wouldn't know it wasn't them who killed lucy, other than the fact that'd be a massive anti climax when it's actually revealed tongue.gif Emma really seems like a limited time character though sadly.

Posted by: Camdy Cane 20th December 2014, 08:31 AM

I just wanted Eastenders to keep Emma and Max together. sad.gif It really bothers me how Abi gives Emma so much stick but yet apparently Tanya is with someone else too, but we never hear her complain about Tanya's partner, never mind go and see Tanya... When was the last time Oscar saw his dad?

Posted by: Merry Fareekmas! 20th December 2014, 09:15 AM

Imagine if it's Ian who killed Lucy, that would be the greatest plot twist of Eastenders history I think.

It definitely is Emma who dies on New Year's Day, her car is going to get fucked about with and then she will have a crash and die.

Posted by: Santa Martin 20th December 2014, 11:03 AM

I'm thinking its Rainie now, if Lucy was dealing with drugs, who else would she go to get her fix, I can't see anyone else on the square dealing apart from her own brother. Just depends what time Ian was getting his leg over that night

There hasn't been any other regular character that is leaving, I know Peter is, and Lauren is going for a short while, so I'm thinking outside the box, someone not as much of a regular character.

I'm sure the killer won't be someone who's confirmed as leaving, at least not yet. Otherwise we'd know it's Peter or it'd be someone really anti-climatic such as Rainie. It might be like Stacey where the killer just tells one person or something or we find out but nobody else does on the square? And then maybe the killer has to leave a few months later when someone finds out. But then that's way too similar to the Stacey story so maybe it'll all be resolved and everyone will get a bit of closure and know who killed lucy.
