Wigan Athletic could be followed into administration by "10 or 15" clubs unless some financial help comes from the top of the game, warns the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee.

Administrators acting for the Latics have said the club is 'finished' if funding cannot be found to get it through to the end of the season after its Hong Kong-based owners pulled out.

But the fear of many within the game is that Wigan will only represent the tip of a large iceberg as the full impact of Covid-19 starts to take effect.

It probably won't be enough to survive the drop, but it was very nice to see that we actually remembered how to win. laugh.gif

Lee Johnson has been sacked as head coach of Bristol City.

The 39-year-old, who had been in the role since February 2016 and was the longest-serving manager in the Championship, departs following a run of four successive defeats.

Local MP Lisa Nandy and Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham have called for an investigation into Wigan Athletic's recent takeover.

The Latics entered administration earlier this week having been taken over by the Next Leader Fund on 29 May.

The Labour politicians have asked that administrators be stopped from selling players and the club's 12-point penalty be frozen until an inquiry is complete.

There's certainly a strong suspicion that something highly dodgy is going on at Wigan.

Wigan Athletic administrator Gerald Krasner has said the club have appealed against their 12-point deduction for going into administration.

The Football League said the punishment would apply this season if Wigan avoided finishing in the bottom three.

I’ve just caught up with all the Wigan goss and why they went into administration which was to basically hope they would go in a twelve point deduction due to a massive bet on them being relegated by their owners in phillipanes

English football has been "disrespected" by the "tremendous shock" of Wigan going into administration, says EFL chairman Rick Parry.

The future seemed bright for the Championship club when they changed Hong Kong-based owners a month ago, but last week's revelation of their financial predicament has resulted in a 12-point deduction, which has yet to be officially applied.

The administrators have said the club have appealed against their punishment, but if upheld, it could see them relegated.

New owners Next Leader Fund said they invested "more than £40m" into the club and blamed the coronavirus pandemic for the decision to put it into administration.

Birmingham City boss Pep Clotet has left the club after Wednesday's 3-1 defeat by Swansea City.

The Spaniard, 43, was set to leave the Championship side at the end of the season but said it was "mutually agreed" he would step down immediately.

Leeds and Stoke are the only two teams I follow on Facebook so to see both reactions to that result was certainly interesting!

Would love Brentford to get into the top 2 but looks like they will have to go the playoff route now.
