[Surprised not to see a thread for this yet; also went with the 'Pop' label given to her music on Apple music in terms of which forum to post it in...]
Celeste has been chosen as the BRIT Awards 'Rising Star' for 2020 and was also BBC Introducing Artist of the Year 2019. She has also been nominated for BBC's Sound Of 2020 accolade, which she has every chance of winning. There will be Adele comparisons. I suppose Jorja Smith wouldn't be a wrong comparison either. Perhaps she lies somewhere between the two. Also reminds me of when Corinne Bailey Rae burst onto the scene, but Celeste's music is more sultry. The current single "Strange" is absolutely stunning. Been loving it for a while now since first hearing it on Phil Taggart's Chillest Show on Radio 1. This post has been edited by Tafty: Jan 14 2021, 10:12 PM |

don't think you can justify a comparison to Adele, not really on the same league

I think she's more Jorja than Adele but stunning voice anyway like those two! Strange is so haunting.

I quite like Strange but I'd say she reminds me more of the Corinne Bailey Rae / Rebecca Ferguson type of era and sound.

I can’t fault her, I just wish I didn’t constantly think of her as one half of the early 00’s pop outfit Daphne & Celeste!

I was about to start a thread for her around the same time yesterday after checking out the artists on the Sound of 2020 list! Surprised there wasn't one already, either.
'Strange' is really lovely - I noticed the Adele similarities too (not big, power vocal Adele, but the stripped back, 19-era Adele). I think this will do well for her, even if it doesn't get a big peak, it'll make its way to a Silver certification. 'Coco Blood' is another favourite of mine: |

She's won BBC Sound of 2020!
I wonder if she'll perform 'Strange' at the BRITS. Could be her 'Someone Like You' moment. |

Stop This Flame is really good, I also get Amy Winehouse vibes in her voice.

'Strange' has hit me out of nowhere over the past few days! I love the classy, soulful Amy-esque tone to her voice and the piano is a haunting touch.
Hope it can actually crack the top 40 for her! |

Do we think "Strange" could hit number 1 if performed at the BRITS?
Been listening to "Compilation 1.1" this week a lot with "Stop The Flame" tacked on the end. A really good collection and really liking the new single too! |

omg I didn’t realise she was the one from TIEKS ‘Sing that Song’ from a few years ago! Love that song!
Adoring ‘Stop This Flame’ too, hopefully it can be big. |

Oh I definitely did not realise that was her either, mind blown. So she's winning Sound of 2020 and the BRITs Rising Star award despite already having a top 100 hit as long ago as 2014 lel
'Stop This Flame' is a pretty decent song (sounds like one of Emeli Sandé's better songs I guess). Not really enthused on her yet in general though. |

Debut album confirmed but we’ve got to wait until September 4th. Strange is the only confirmed track at the moment
