First part of a new recap series in the Katy Perry forum looking back at some past singles and how we feel about them nowadays? So what do you think of I Kissed a Girl now and do you listen to it very much? Here are some initial reactions to the track from eight (!!!!) years back: This really is terrible. Terrible music, awful vocals. Not charming in any way. I literally hate it. I've heard it and it's not my thing. love this song! looks like it will do big things I utterly LOVE this, it's an anthem. It absolutely must go to #1! AMAZINGGGGGGGGGGGG I'm in love with this so much

I used to love it back in the day, I remember everyone round school used to be singing it in the playground and at the time it felt like a really massive hit. Nowadays it feels a bit forgotten in comparison to her bigger singles like Roar/Firework and it definitely doesn't stand up to most of her future singles now either. It sounds a little dated now whereas much of Teenage Dream still sounds really fresh imo.

My first memory of this is hearing it in an online song contest similar to BJSC, but with people playing as a real country like Eurovision. I think I liked it enough to award it 3 points.
It does sound a bit of the time and she has some much bigger highlights that I go back to more often but it still ranks somewhere around the middle out of her singles for me I think. |

This totally made my summer of 2008, and probably 2008 in general. It still holds a special place in my heart but I don't often go back to it these days.
I think at the time it was exciting having something like this break through in a 2008 landscape that was saturated with generic R&B and boys with guitars. |

Trash.
HEr second worst song after Mini Screech-lite Thinking of Screech(ing Out Your Eardrums). Never liked it, even when people were raging about it. And I was right! It was good to get her attention however, like Madonna's early gimmicky songs. |

Yep, it's very of its time definitely I do still really like it but it's probably in the bottom half of her singles for me, I end up really enjoying it when it comes on or I put it on, but I don't often really consciously go back to it.

This is still one of my favourite Katy Perry singles, would make my personal top 10 at least

I ADORED this song when it came out. It was one of the songs of the year for me (if not THE song.) I rarely listen to it now and I agree that it hasn't stood the test of time as much as some of her other singles, but I always have major nostalgia for it whenever I hear it.

Ah, I remember seeing the music video for it in TV around, I recognised her from the UR So Gay song and thought this was strange but a sure fire hit.

U know what, I still love this one and can remember hearing this back in 2008 and it was totally my jam, (back when music was half decent). Katy just came out of nowhere and grabbed everybody's attention and for a lesser artist this would have been their biggest hit and could have easily been a one hit wonder, which to be honest at the time, I thought this was gonna be, but after hearing the awesome follow up....
I was gladly mistaken and so glad that she has managed to surpass this, several times. But on the whole I would still rank this in my top 10 fave Katy Perry songs. |
