QUOTE(BBC)
Secondary school PE teacher Candice, 31, grew up in London in the pubs her parents ran. She now lives with boyfriend and pug in Bedfordshire. She was taught to bake by her nan and claims she usually bakes in her pyjamas.

Tom, 26, grew up in Rochdale and moved to London after university. He now works for The Royal Society of Arts. Having lost 30kg (4st 10lb), he still enjoys baking but believes in everything in moderation.

Garden designer Jane, 61, from Beckenham, south London, says she is up at 5am most mornings to bake bread. She learnt the art of baking from her father and grandfather, who owned a bakery in Hastings, Sussex.

Originally from Ghana, 30-year-old Selasi moved to the UK with his family 15 years ago. He now lives with his girlfriend in London, where he works as a client service associate in the finance sector.

QUOTE(BBC)
Val, 66, is a former primary school head teacher from Yorkshire who now lives with husband near Yeovil, Somerset. She took over her family's baking aged 15 and says she can make the classics with her eyes closed.

At 20, Michael is the youngest of this year's contenders. He is from London but is currently studying politics and economics in Durham. His iamspamspamamicreations are also influenced by his family's Cypriot roots.

Benjamina started baking nine years ago at the age of 14. She recently graduated with a first in economics and now fits her baking around a job as a teaching assistant in south London.

Lee, who lives in Bolton, is the oldest contestant at 67. He began his career as a builder but switched careers and has worked in pastoral ministries for the past 30 years, most recently as pastor in a church in the Greater Manchester town.

QUOTE(BBC)
Rav, 28, claims to be "adventurous and experimental" and likes to use unusual ingredients. He is especially inspired by far eastern cuisine and enjoys vegan baking. The 28-year-old works supporting students at City University in London.

Kate, 37, is a nurse on an acute respiratory ward. Her passion for baking began as a child and she says she enjoys using the seasonal fruit she gathers with her children on her parents' farm in Norfolk.

By day, Andrew, 25, works as an aerospace engineer designing jet engines for Rolls-Royce. He lives with friends in Derby and, in his spare time, tries to apply his engineering mentality to push the boundaries of baking.

Cardiff hairdresser Louise, 46, really got into baking when making cakes for charity bake sales at work. She enjoys creating elaborate cake designs and experimenting with different flours and flavours in bread.

BAKING CAN BE FOR MEN TOO LOOK AT ALL THE COLOURS THIS ICING COMES IN.

Posted by: Froot. 16th August 2016, 10:24 AM

I wonder if any of the photos will become as iconic as this one:

NEVER FORGET.

Posted by: Kye 16th August 2016, 10:39 AM

but omg two of the men have pink shirts on, this changes everything.

Posted by: princess_lotti 16th August 2016, 10:40 AM

brb going to submit a photo of myself holding up blue icing to bbc. that;ll throw them

Posted by: Brett-Butler 16th August 2016, 01:45 PM

People are actually upset at the colour of the icing? Really?

Looking forward to this series, I doubt any of this year's contestants will become as iconic as Nadiya (who in all honesty is the only prior Bake Off Contestant whose name I still remember), but it looks like a decent line-up. Fingered crossed that this year is the year that they finally bake some Battenberg.

Posted by: dandy* 17th August 2016, 08:30 PM

OBVIOUSLY I am ridiculously excited for this.

Although I am working away for the opening show, I'll have to wait an entire 24 hours before I'll be able to see it. This is clearly the biggest drama I will have encountered in my life to date so I'm trying to make coping plans already.

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 17th August 2016, 08:31 PM

So hyped for this! Was wondering the other day when this was going to be back wub.gif

The ginger one should be stripped of his passport for that crime against the jaffa cake.

The showstopper is a farce laugh.gif

Posted by: Cameron 24th August 2016, 08:00 PM

Thank god the right one went!

Posted by: Mart!n 24th August 2016, 08:03 PM

It was a toss up between Lee and Val, but the right person went in the end. Shame Candice's showstopper fell at the very last hurdle, that could have been a great cake.

Posted by: HarryEzra 24th August 2016, 08:04 PM

Really good ep not too attached to the bakers yet will likely grow

Posted by: Silas 24th August 2016, 08:04 PM

Anyone watching the Nadiya thing on now? I still love this woman so f***ing much.

Omg I'm watching Nadiya I love her so much she's just so adorable <3

As for this show, Val and Benjamina >>>>

atm I'm stanning Selasi, Candice, Benjamina and Val *.*

Posted by: Chez Wombat 24th August 2016, 09:14 PM

I almost forgot this started today! Benjamina looks like someone that could go far, as could Candice, I like her creativity, she just needs to not overdo it. Lee was definitely the right one to go, you cannot put chopped fruit as a cake filling mellow.gif

I can't believe the guy got chocolate on the wrong side of the jaffa cake, have you REALLY never seen one before? laugh.gif

Also yes, Val is amazing, I just want her in for a few more weeks of her confusing the ingredients wub.gif

Posted by: AdamAloud 25th August 2016, 01:54 PM

Was raging Selasi didn't get star baker, all 3 of his bakes looked excellent.

Although as far as I'm concerned, they all failed the Jaffa cake challenge as the sponge was far too thick on all of them.

I was expecting him to get Star Baker, so I was a little surprised when he didn't.

The jaffa cakes they showed as an example had rather more sponge than the ones you buy in a packet. I assume Mary Berry would argue that the bought ones don't have enough sponge laugh.gif

candice is my queen*.* so happy she got star baker this week!!!!

Posted by: Liаm 31st August 2016, 11:09 PM

That was one of the best Showstoppers in the 3 series I've watched Bake Off for me *.* I thought it was so creative with real detail and thought put into it. She really deserved that wub.gif

Posted by: richie 1st September 2016, 07:18 AM

The pub itself was fantastic - I did think the pool table looked a little bit like somebody had sneezed though.

Posted by: Cameron 1st September 2016, 11:29 AM

Candice's showstopper was incredible. I am gutted Louise went sad.gif but it was obvious when her church collapsed

Posted by: burbe 1st September 2016, 09:08 PM

Candice's show stopper was incredible! ohmy.gif

Posted by: Pavel 3rd September 2016, 05:12 PM

Oh my god. Mary loves eating carpets. I gagged.

So happy Candice won. What a smashing creation.

Posted by: Mack 7th September 2016, 07:03 PM

Has anyone tried the recipes from the show. Who knew baking could be thrilling to watch.

Posted by: Cameron 7th September 2016, 07:18 PM

Ugh, Banjamina and Candice better recover sad.gif

Posted by: Mart!n 7th September 2016, 08:04 PM

I really thought Val would be a goner tonight, I didn't pick Michael to go, but his showstopper was a tad awful, Star Baker was practically spot on. I did get a bit bored though watching this episode, I do find Bread week is a bit of a miss with me. Looking forward to next week's... Yorkshire puds wub.gif

Posted by: Liаm 8th September 2016, 02:03 AM

TELL ME THIS ISN'T KATE DEAD ON LMFAO. I thought of this and I can't unsee it.

Aww and bless Val for winning the technical challenge wub.gif I didn't expect Tom to be star baker, I thought Andrew had it. Not sure I care too much about Michael leaving, he was week and bland as a person also. I'm so glad Val and Candice hung on! Jane to mess up and go next plz.

Posted by: burbe 8th September 2016, 08:41 PM

Val winning the technical challenge was an incredible moment! So unexpected!

Posted by: Pavel 10th September 2016, 01:05 PM

I am in awe how Val is sailing through only because there was someone a bit worse that week. Lmao talk about luck.

Poor Candice sad.gif Please don't let Tom be top 3 like Paul implied. Ugh.

Oh and when they showed Michael's signature on the screen I was like who is Michael for a second. So I don't quite care he left. Oops

Posted by: Suedehead2 10th September 2016, 01:12 PM

Michael was a bit anonymous, but he was good on Extra Slice last night.

Posted by: Umi 10th September 2016, 10:36 PM

This series is stressing me out more than any I can remember. I keep waiting for Candice to get her shit together but she insists on keeping me in a state of perpetual fear.

Posted by: Rooney 12th September 2016, 05:24 PM

Soon to be appearing on Sky1 or ITV...

Posted by: Froot. 12th September 2016, 05:27 PM

BIG mistake on behalf of the production company there, looks they're just wanting to be greedy. The BBC is where it will be successful.

Posted by: Froot. 12th September 2016, 05:57 PM

Also, I think that means no Bake Off for next year. The BBC have a year resting clause before it can be broadcast on another channel. It'll probably also mean the last of Mary Berry at least, possibly the others too.

aka RIP Bake Off.

Posted by: liamk97 12th September 2016, 06:06 PM

Looks like this will definitely be its peak year then.

Posted by: burbe 12th September 2016, 06:42 PM

I'm furious! Pure greed once again winning the day. Love Productions will get what's coming to them. Paul & Mary will hopefully stick to their word and leave the show. No loyalty at all shown to the BBC. Without them, I highly doubt this show would've taken off in the way it has! Look at other rights such as Wimbledon which despite being offered millions more by ITV, they have remained loyal to the BBC. Can you imagine what ITV are going to do with this show? Oh dear! RIP Bake Off indeed.

I'm glad to see the general reaction across social media is outrage too!

Posted by: Chez Wombat 12th September 2016, 06:49 PM

Very surprising news and I don't really understand how it happened...this was such a winner for the BBC I'd assume they wouldn't have a problem losing it to negotiations?

Such a shame anyway, whatever channel picks it up, it won't be the same and I'd imagine will lose popularity, so I guess I'll cherish this season while I can? :/ I guess seeing the Great BRITISH Bake Off off the main British channel just won't seem right as it being so quintessentially British is part of the charm of it...I'm not here for an ITV version.

Posted by: dandy* 12th September 2016, 06:51 PM

I'm absolutely GUTTED by this news. It is the type of show that will only really work on the BBC for me, plus I really don't want adverts ruining it. sad.gif

Posted by: burbe 12th September 2016, 06:53 PM

Also just realised that means no Bake Off after this series until 2018 sad.gif

Posted by: burbe 12th September 2016, 06:58 PM

Here's the BBC statement:

Looks like they're very much still up for keeping the show but it's too much out of their budget sad.gif

Posted by: J▲hq 12th September 2016, 07:07 PM

It's gone to CHANNEL 4, not even ITV

Posted by: Joe. 12th September 2016, 07:10 PM

So glad it went to c4, it's much more at home there than ITV.

Posted by: dandy* 12th September 2016, 07:12 PM

Oh, Channel 4 is the least bad option I guess.

Posted by: Suedehead2 12th September 2016, 07:16 PM

At least there is still some hope for it on Ch4. Nevertheless, unless they give it a longer time slot, we will have to put up with episodes around 40-45 minutes long.

Posted by: dandy* 12th September 2016, 07:48 PM

It's Channel 4, they will probably just cull the 'educational' bit.

Posted by: burbe 12th September 2016, 07:49 PM

Better than going to ITV but still :/ I'll be surprised if Channel 4 gets half of what BBC One currently gets. They are also going to be starting with a celeb version for Stand Up to Cancer instead of a proper series :/ :/

Posted by: Chez Wombat 12th September 2016, 08:11 PM

That at least rules out the prospect of an Ant & Dec hosted Bake Off in front of a live audience. Very good gig for Channel 4! (though I still don't really have an interest in watching oops).

Posted by: Froot. 12th September 2016, 08:14 PM

Bets on Alan Carr hosting then?

Alan Carr & Davina probably rolleyes.gif

Pure greed has ruined one of the biggest cooking shows we've seen in a very long time. This is a show that gets everyone talking it has had a massive impact in the last few years and now it's on Channel 4 with their money they had for horse racing rights. Burbe. Do you have an link for Wimbledon on ITV. Unfortunately we live in an era where money talks for rights. Don't blame the BBC. I blame Love Productions who love a wad of cash and not seeing viewing figures high.

Posted by: Liаm 12th September 2016, 09:55 PM

They'll probably Emma Willis like everything else on TV.

Posted by: Mack 12th September 2016, 09:58 PM

Please not Alan Carr for this after Mel + Sue.

Posted by: Pavel 12th September 2016, 10:13 PM

No one will be able to replace Mel and Sue. And with different judges they will be lucky to draw half of what they were getting last year by the end of the 2018 series. So stupid.

Posted by: Liаm 12th September 2016, 10:18 PM

The Voice is staying the same host (well, one of them, Emma is staying) and Will.i.am has crossed over too so a channel change doesn't necessarily mean that Paul/Mary and Mel/Sue will quit, but with a new channel they might tweak it a bit and that may not sit well with some of them so they might leave over that, that's the worry for me. It's not gong to be the same but I guess it's better than outright cancelling. But it won't get the same viewers, nowhere near, especially without the tried and tesed combo of judges and hosts.

You blame a small independent production company for wanting to make money? That's just business.
Why would the production company turn down an extra £5 million, for the sake of loyalty and 'what the fans want', to make the same show on a different station?

They have a viable product that is worth a lot of money to the highest bidder.. good on them! Maybe, considering it's the most watched show on TV, the BBC should have paid up for it?
You can't blame Channel 4 for seeing how well it does, getting the opportunity to have that show on their station, and then winning the bid.

Mel & Sue have shown before that they have no particular 'loyalty' to the BBC, they had their own daytime chat show on ITV lest we forget.. I'm pretty sure they can and will be bought.
I'd put money on Paul Hollywood moving too but I'm not so sure about Mary. But, if she doesn't want to do it, there are a tonne of female chefs/bakers that would jump at it.
I'm not convinced she would have stayed on the BBC version for much longer anyway.

Posted by: Froot. 12th September 2016, 10:36 PM

The production company is 70% owned by Sky though! They may be getting more money for it now but there's a high chance that the show's future has been drastically shortened than if it had stayed on thd BBC. The formula/judges/presenters are all so essential to the the show's success that even the slight chance of the introduction of adverts could damage the show's popularity. It is a BBC show at heart and they couldn't spend more money on it as they're in a period of incredible scrutiny where they're being told they can't spend lots of money even on successful shows, which is why they had to get rid of The Voice.

I just saw "UK-based independent production company set up in 2004" from their Twitter bio and went with that.

My point still stands.. it's business. Why should they have to settle for what the BBC want to pay because it may lose popularity.. in their heads they're making the same show for more money.
It's not their fault that the BBC can't afford it because they are under scrutiny, £5 million (if that's the figure) is a lot to say no to.

Who's to say, with all the BBC cutbacks, that the whole GBBO ensemble would be returning in 2017?
With the increase in viewers, yet again, they'd all be well within their right to ask for raises and not return if they didn't get them.

We're in the DVR & Netflix generation, you don't have to watch the ad's these days. Yes, I'd prefer no adverts but I won't boycott the show because of their introduction.

Posted by: burbe 13th September 2016, 07:27 AM

The figures I've seen mentioned is the BBC offered £15m for three series, but Channel 4 has paid £25m. That's a massive increase from £500k (or £1.5m for three) per series!

Posted by: richie 13th September 2016, 09:30 AM

The BBC could go down a legal road on this, could they? As they point out, they nurtured the show and made it what it was (and, sorry, that's WAS - there is no chance in hell that it will be the same after a move). Wouldn't they be due some compensation?

To pay for GBBO, the BBC would have probably needed to close at least one service, scrap several drama productions or lose a major sporting event. I guess they just thought they were being held to ransom.

On the plus side, these shows have a certain shelf life and its best shows are probably already behind them.

Wimbledon is free to air is it not? I don't think either channel can claim exclusivity - but I guess ITV could try to poach the BBC's folks.

Posted by: Mack 13th September 2016, 11:55 AM

Fair enough that is business. I'm just surprised that they were asking for £25m per year for the rights. That's all. Look at some of the jewels that BBC have lost:

In today's business like Kye has said, money talks.

Posted by: Mart!n 13th September 2016, 12:00 PM

It won't be the same once the series moves to Channel 4, but I'm willing to give it a go, and also did I hear right that Mary Berry was contemplating on leaving after this series, there are so many female bakers that could jump at the chance of been a judge. If they keep the same format, I know the ad breaks can be annoying at least it be available on +1 hour services without hardly any ad breaks.

But please don't let Rylan Clark host the show sleep.gif he did come top 3 in the Celebrity MasterChef last year.

I doubt there's any legal issue here, a contract is a contract and so if that runs out, the production conpany has free reign!

Yeh don't worry, they're in a Golden Handcuffs deal with ITV so they're only allowed to present shows on ITV. I really am convinced that Alan Carr will be hosting though, we all know he loves a good innuendo!

Posted by: Suedehead2 13th September 2016, 04:39 PM

Rumour has it that the BBC will not be insisting on a one year break, so we could get a full series next year (as long as Ch4 can find presenters and judges).

Posted by: Chez Wombat 13th September 2016, 04:44 PM

I'm very glad they've stepped down, they make Bake off wonderful and definitely don't deserve to be associated with the mess it will become!

Yeah I agree, I like Alan Carr on his chat show and stuff but I just don't think he'd work for Bake Off. I can't really think who would work, Mel & Sue are so synonymous with Bake Off and it's quite a specific sense of humour that could come across quite forced if new presenters tried to do it.

that's the thing. i would take the deal if I was them. but i wonder how they can offer so much when they don't really know what advertisers will actually offer because a change of channel will surely make advertisers wary of paying too much incase no one actually crosses over and watches. tho I guess maybe they know it will cover the costs and anything else is a bonus.

Posted by: Suedehead2 13th September 2016, 05:35 PM

If Paul and Mary also go, we will be left with none of the original team. I fully expect the show to be renamed Sugabakes Off.

Posted by: Regina 13th September 2016, 07:46 PM

No Mel & Sue cry.gif
The only other presenter I'd welcome would be Jo Brand, she is amazing on Extra Slice and has presented the Comic Relief specials and did well.

Posted by: burbe 13th September 2016, 09:02 PM

Rumours are Jo Brand has been approached already with a big money offer!

Anyway, very glad to see Mel & Sue jump ship. I think there's still a good chance Love Productions might do a u-turn. Surely there is a cooling off period in the contract that will allow it to be terminated? Channel 4 have come across really badly in this. They've basically paid a ridiculous amount of money for a basic inexpensive format without any of the previous onscreen talent (I highly doubt Mary & Paul will remain with the show). Like Top Gear, this will start with a decent-ish figure but down a lot on the previous highs and then plummet as everyone hates it.

It's been crazy to watch the rise of this show in the ratings and now how quickly it's all unravelled! The real winners in all this are ITV who will benefit from their main rival having lost its biggest show and their main commercial rival having bought a poisoned chalice. sad.gif

Posted by: Silas 13th September 2016, 09:27 PM

Utter disgrace. As an Accountant i understand the pure financial motivations here but this shows a complete and utter lack of business sense and basically is just pure incompetence by Love Productions. There is so many intangible aspects of the GBBO experience that have made it what it is today that are wholly reliant on it airing on BBC. It's lack of commercials and no product placement being stand outs.

They've chased a bigger pay day here without even remotely considering 1) what it is that has made the brand so valuable and 2) the effect on the brand of the change.

Given the backlash they're getting C4 must be having some serious buyers remorse.

Posted by: Froot. 13th September 2016, 09:47 PM

Even though Channel 4 is the next best option to the BBC, it is such a terrible decision to launch with a Stand Up to Cancer celebrity special. The celebrity specials have been a nice edition but they don't showcase what the show is about and it means that all the interest of the move will go into that rather than the actual 'normal' series.

This has all been a massive error of judgement. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Posted by: Liаm 13th September 2016, 10:00 PM

Hopefully this doesn't end up like Big Brother did when it move to C5, where C4 just use the celeb and give 0 f***s about the normal one, the celebrity one is nice once a year but I agree if that's going to be the first thing they show then all the hype of the move and the relaunch is going to be absorbed by that and when the real series comes I fear it'll have a more muted reception.

Posted by: Joe. 14th September 2016, 02:09 AM

I really can't see Mary and Paul doing it. It's bad enough already. M&S intro the show every week, even when one of them is missing it feels weird. They might have the same music and tent but it'll just feel wrong now. Also, with adverts it'll have to be 20 minutes shorter so we'll lose some of the depth and detail.

Posted by: Martyn 14th September 2016, 08:32 AM

Davina to host?

I fear being on C4 we will get things like double eliminations, public votes, constructed drama etc.

Posted by: Ryan. 14th September 2016, 08:58 AM

I'm privately thrilled about this because I've never understood the insane hype Bake Off creates when it is on, so if this means that this is the beginning of the end then that delights me! heehee.gif

Posted by: BUY PERF. ILLUS! 14th September 2016, 04:17 PM

I can't believe they were so shortsighted. Sure, it is more money initially but it destroys the brand and therefore reduces overall revenue and meand the show won't last as long/ be as profitable.

Posted by: BUY PERF. ILLUS! 14th September 2016, 04:18 PM

I kind of like Jane but she needs to stop crying every time they are like "you used the right ingredients for your batter, well done"

Omg Kate was horrendously bland, I still can't get over that sketch I posted which is like an exaggeratin of her laugh.gif

Candice winning star baker and then Val going was such a bittersweet moment cry.gif

Posted by: Suedehead2 21st September 2016, 08:07 PM

I think both decisions were right again. I was worried for Andrew in the technical challenge with his schoolboy error. Thankfully, it soon became apparent that there were a couple other Bakewell tarts that were a good deal worse than his. They really should have appointed me as a guest judge for that round.

Val very nearly got me crying!!! Second time now after Nadiya winning last year.

Posted by: Mart!n 21st September 2016, 08:09 PM

Candice was definitely the star baker this week. Val had a bad day with her filo.

I think Rav and Tom are skating on thin ice, which probably are the next two to go, after that Salsei and Andrew, which leaves Jane, Candice and Benjamina as the final 3.

Posted by: Suedehead2 21st September 2016, 08:19 PM

Rav and Tom have indeed had some lucky escapes, but that's irrelevant in future weeks. Rav's biggest problem is the technical challenge. If he continues to do badly in that every week, he probably will go soon. OTOH, if he starts to do better in that, he should survive for a few more weeks yet.

Posted by: Klumzee 21st September 2016, 08:30 PM

I reckon Andrew is most likely to be the winner at this point in time! He's very consistent at least in comparison to the others and precise! Think it'll be two of Selasi/Candice/Jane in the final with him.

Sad to see Val go, but right decision tonight.

Posted by: Cremey 21st September 2016, 09:12 PM

I can't stand Andrew either. I think burbe is right with the top 3 and I can easily see him winning, although I'll be rooting for Benjamina!

Posted by: Chez Wombat 21st September 2016, 09:32 PM

Val </3 Will definitely not be the same without her and her musings, even if it was probably the right decision.

Andrew, Candice & Benjamina are the only ones I really like left, definitely could be the final 3 though I expect Jane will be there (though I REALLY hope not, my least favourite, cannot warm to her at all :/). Rav and Selasi are just 'there' and nothing else and I do like Tom, but jeez it's like he's purposefully choosing the least appealing recipes possible.

(Also, was I alone in seeing SO MUCH passive aggressiveness between Jane & Candice when they congratulated each other in the showstopper? kink.gif)

In more heartbreaking but expected news, Mary Berry has also left Bake Off. She states that she wishes to stay with the BBC out of loyalty. I can see Paul staying tbh.

Bye Bake Off.

Posted by: burbe 22nd September 2016, 09:34 AM

Mary sad.gif Last nail in the coffin of Channel 4's Bake Off. Apparently the BBC offered her some big primetime shows like Mary Berry's Sunday Dinner and Mary Berry's Perfect Christmas so I'm not surprised she stuck with them. I think there could also be a possibility of a new show with her and Mel & Sue if they can work around format issues.

Posted by: princess_lotita 22nd September 2016, 09:35 AM

Her final words being "farewell to soggy bottoms" tho. QUEEN

Posted by: Liаm 22nd September 2016, 09:49 AM

Ugh Jane. She is so unlikable, you can tell she really expected Star Baker and was not happy when Candice got it instead laugh.gif She probably always wins the village fete baking contest and thinks only she deserves to win Bake Off. I like Andrew though, but Candice and Benjamina are the two I'm really really rooting for. Rav and Tom are definitely lucky that there have been others who've had outright terrible weeks when they've just been meh or forgettable and only properly flopped in one bit, they should be the next two to go but obviously in Bake Off anyone could leap forward and smash next week.

Also sad.gif @ Mary, it will not be the same without her.

Posted by: Froot. 22nd September 2016, 10:14 AM

to Paul:

Posted by: Suedehead2 22nd September 2016, 10:27 AM

I think Paul staying is bad news for the show. The new judge (assuming they stick with two) will be seen as "the junior judge" and will be compared directly with Mary. If they had both gone, it would have been easier for two new judges to establish themselves as a new team. I assume Paul would be well-advised to steer clear of social media for a while.

Posted by: Silas 22nd September 2016, 10:27 AM

Not surprised at either news there. Paul has always been a sleazy c**t and Mary was likely to stay with Mel&Sue

Posted by: Umi 22nd September 2016, 11:55 AM

I'm glad Mary's left, as the loss of both her and Mel & Sue means there's basically no draw for me to actually watch the C4 version. I'm very happy to treat this as the last season.

I'm not surprised Paul stayed, he's clearly a business man and can see this show's doing well for him so won't wanna jump ship yet (though who knows if he'll last all three series' ;o). A shame, but I'm glad Mary stayed true to herself (plus she's a lot older and doesn't exactly need the money so I couldn't have seen how she'd ever have agreed).

Posted by: Pavel 2nd October 2016, 06:35 PM

Candice had the best showstopper package to me but it makes sense Tom won. Bless him, he's the only male baker who has won so far oops.

Candice to win. Selasi will clearly be gone next week and I can't stand the other two!

Posted by: Suedehead2 13th October 2016, 11:18 AM

After a few weeks of lucky escapes Andrew has upped his game for the last two weeks. It certainly looks like Selasi will go next, but all it needs is one very good week (or a calamity for one of the other three) and he's in the final.

Posted by: richie 13th October 2016, 12:07 PM

Yep, anybody can have a "bad week" and it seems pretty clear that the judges base it on that week only and not what went before. I still have a hunch Candice will crash out in the semi-final, not sure why.

Posted by: Liаm 13th October 2016, 12:10 PM

I am still in awe at Candice's peacock, that and her pub are among the best showstoppers I have ever seen but the peacock surely clinches it! I like Andrew but I really hope she wins! I can't abide Jane and Selasi has no chance.

Posted by: Burbe G 13th October 2016, 12:17 PM

Benjamina sad.gif I really wanted her to reach the final. I was convinced Selasi was going as well, so quite surprised.

Candice once again incredible ohmy.gif

Hopefully Jane will be out next week, I just can't warm to her.

Posted by: Chez Wombat 13th October 2016, 05:18 PM

First elimination I kinda disagreed with as Selasi was the weaker baker of the two going by previous weeks (I know they base this decision off this week only but I still feel past weeks should be taken into account at this stage), but at the same time, I suppose it emphasises how one bad week can be at this stage!

I'm thinking Candice has won this - that Peacock was pretty stunning - Wouldn't even surprise me if thanks to the luck of the format, Selasi has a great week next week and clinches into the final!

I wanted Selasi in the final because he's amusing but he was the weakest baker of the three (even if I hate the other two) so was right he went.

I'd noticed that as well, I can't fathom how Andrew got Star Baker

Andrew to win cheer.gif

Posted by: Chez Wombat 19th October 2016, 09:59 PM

I assume they were placing a LOT on the cake being the right colour in the technical given Jane seemed to be the only one that got that right and she won it.

I would have actually rather Selasi got through that Jane tbh, 'everyone can make caramel but me!!!' UGH SHUT UP. I think it really will come down to the week as they've all been quite erratic throughout, but I still think Candice has got this.

Posted by: Liаm 19th October 2016, 10:59 PM

Yeah Andrew being star baker felt so weird and anticlimactic, even on the episode it was just like "oh Andrew is star baker anyway bye Selasi that's a bigger deal". I think it should have been Candice too, the technical was an odd one. I saw the usual jealous women moaning that Candice had preferential treatment because her cream melted and suddenly they made allowances for melted cream but she wasn't the only one and she still came 3rd in the technical anyway! If anything as said above Candice was paid dust as she actually soaked the sponge laugh.gif I guess it was one of those technicals though where nobody did everything right so it was a bit of a mish mash.

Selasi can quite frankly sit on me but he has been SO lucky the past few weeks that I'm not sad he's gone now. Imo he definitely should have gone last week instead of Benjamina, if not before. He did quite well by staying in the middle a lot while the likes of Rav had disaster weeks! But yes Jane to lose please, I hate her attitude. She seems like such a perfectionist because she's probably used to cleaning up at the village fete baking competition and hates not being the best. She always looks like she's going to break down over any slight criticism and she looks like she's set to kill if anyone snatches a win from her if looks like she is going to do well.

Odd week this week in terms of star baker - everybody was a bit rubbish, so it was a case of who was least bad. I think Andrew will win overall but Candice seems to be the nation's favourite.

Posted by: Cremey 20th October 2016, 07:36 AM

I'm going to miss Selasi's voice terribly next week 😭

Posted by: Simon. 20th October 2016, 09:40 AM

Really hoping Andrew doesn't win, he really goes through me sick2.gif

Posted by: Joe. 20th October 2016, 09:43 AM

They're all a bit meh this year. I'm nowhere near as excited for the finale as I usually am.

Posted by: Burbe G 20th October 2016, 10:16 AM

Anyone but Jane to win please. I quite enjoyed this week's episode apart from Andrew being the star baker (should've been Candice). Mel & Sue were on top form and it's gonna be sad without them sad.gif

Posted by: jakewild 20th October 2016, 10:19 AM

andrew CANNOT win

Posted by: Burbe G 20th October 2016, 10:32 AM

So basically only Candice can win according to this thread laugh.gif Tbf only she deserves to win.

and me - either Andrew or Candice winning would be fair.

To be honest, I don't think there is a slightest possibility this years winner could have ever lived up to expectations Nadiya had set the year before.

I'm rewatching Season 2 currently and I forgot how damned f***ing fine Rob's dimples were. Makes me weak every damn time he smiles.

Posted by: Slick 22nd October 2016, 04:48 PM

I really want Candice to take the win. The others aren't consistent enough for me (except maybe Jane but NO THX.)

Posted by: Silas 26th October 2016, 10:45 AM

TONIGHT!!! I'm at the football from 8pm so will have to avoid spoilers until I can watch it.

Posted by: Joe. 26th October 2016, 10:48 AM

End of an era. I have enjoyed this season a lot less than the past few but I'm still sad to see it go.

Posted by: The Grim Reaper 26th October 2016, 11:09 AM

To be honest out of the remaining 3 I rather have Candice she has been rather consistent lately, Jane and Andrew have made a few mistakes. And I still can't get over the week Jane was Star Baker when Candice was the only person who put the syrup on that sponge. sleep.gif

But he's sooooooooooooo terrible. This year they would have absolutely no problem kicking him out for those showstopper tarts he did. I still can't believe he didn't go despite that absolute mess. Probably the worst thing ever presented to the judges?! And I am taking into account Iain's literally garbage-flavoured ice cream cake.

Posted by: Blurbe Witch 26th October 2016, 12:12 PM

There's still the Christmas Specials swansong to look forward to at least. Hopefully Nadiya will be back for that and once again wipe the floor with the competition.

Posted by: The Grim Reaper 26th October 2016, 07:52 PM

Has to be Candice wub.gif

Posted by: Cameron 26th October 2016, 08:00 PM

She deserved it so much, I am so happy!

Posted by: Suedehead2 26th October 2016, 08:00 PM

It was obvious she was going to win it after the final judging. There wasn't really any suspense in the announcement at all laugh.gif

Posted by: The Grim Reaper 26th October 2016, 08:05 PM

Candice and Jane are going on a baking trip together *.*

I bet they will get their own TV show laugh.gif

Posted by: Blurbe Witch 26th October 2016, 08:13 PM

Perfect winner heart.gif So happy Candice did it! She was the most consistent and creative, imo, so it's great to see her win.

Posted by: gothic_lotita 26th October 2016, 08:16 PM

YAAAAS WHAT A QUEEN

Posted by: Undead Wombat 26th October 2016, 08:22 PM

I saw it coming easily as the editing was pretty blatant but Candice is definitely a deserved winner, she didn't always get it right but when she did, her bakes were incredible and so creative and the picnic basket (Gawd, that all looked so difficult even for a final week!) definitely showed this heart.gif Honestly she was one of the few characters that actually stood out this year, a relatively forgettable bunch this year.

I really doubt I'd wanna watch on Channel 4 without Mel & Sue and Mary, so this is kind of it for me, barring the Christmas special, I will miss it sad.gif

Posted by: Liаm 26th October 2016, 08:53 PM

Couldn't be happier for Candice, as has been said she didn't always get it spot on but when she did, f*** me it was on. Like I said, her pub and peacock showstoppers are possibly my two faves ever, and this week she really pulled it off. For me, I love how she always pushed and tried her best, she never settled for safe or easy, there was always so much thought and ambition put into her bakes <3 And as a personality she was by far the most intriguing and I just really took to her from week 1!

Posted by: Jack 26th October 2016, 10:08 PM

Aw it's a shame girls hate on her for no reason other than she's pretty and confident. So glad she won, my favourite (along with Val) since it began.

Posted by: Silas 26th October 2016, 11:03 PM

I'm beyond thrilled for Candice. What a lovely woman and it couldn't have gone to someone more deserving. A fitting successor to Queen Nadia and a fabulous last winner of GBBO

Posted by: Conderella 27th October 2016, 07:46 AM

Yassssssssss. The only deserving winner in my eyes.

Posted by: 👻 Booliver 👻 27th October 2016, 07:46 AM

Out of the three Candice deserved it on the final bake, you could tell she won as soon as her sausage rolls weren't underbaked. Was surprised no-one mentioned how overdone her tarts were though until Mary right at the last second, they looked rock hard! laugh.gif

And nobody wants a hard tart.

Anyway, it looks like most of the finalists had a good time last night laugh.gif
