20 years since Fragma and Maria Rubia - Everytime You Need Me made the chart, I remember it well from the time, really lovely song. Apparently Maria Rubia had a minor solo hit later called Say It.

I LOVED that song at the time, probably still do.

I would say it's 100% forgotten now, but it was probably barely even known in the first place. It charted at #40.

Sales were really low during the 2000's. I got quite the shock seeing The Arctic Monkeys with only 30,000+ sales being at #1. I always though the 2000's were a good time for music sales wacko.gif

In 2006 CD sales had collapsed and downloads were yet to take off.

That might explain it. I thought the cd sale collapse had happened closer to 2010 than that

Central Cee
Pinging (6 Figures)

3rd single from Wild West
Released: 15th January 2021
Label: Central Cee

Video

Biography

Central Cee is proving himself to be one of London’s most exciting emerging artists. Whilst only just turning 22, the rapper had already released a slew of solid tracks in addition to a powerful Next Up Freestyle on Mixtape Madness reflecting the rising star’s versatility and distinctive delivery. Building on this foundation, in 2020, Central Cee has gone from strength to strength dropping two singles ‘Day In A Life’ and ‘Molly’, with both tracks having racked up 8 million audio streams collectively. The heat surrounding Central Cee along with some killer short freestyle videos showcasing Central Cee’s lyrical abilities has led to him doubling his instagram following in a matter of months (currently 135K). He’s also gained support from various artists at home and abroad including a co-sign from US rapper Big Sean. Music has been an integral part of Central Cee’s upbringing, dating back to the tender age of 8. His eagerness to create his own musical legacy is deeply rooted within his earliest memories of absorbing the rich sounds of his dad's old school hip hop collection. - Spotify

Ashnikko featuring Kelis
Deal With It

3rd single from DEMIDEVIL
Released: 12th January 2021
Label: Parlophone Records

Video

Biography

London-based, American-born rapper and singer Ashnikko makes genre-bending hip-hop and electronic pop, marked by her hyper-stylized, anime- and video game-influenced persona. Following two initial EPs, she gained widespread viral buzz with her song "Stupid," featuring Yung Baby Tate, off 2019's Hi It's Me.

Born Ashton Nicole Casey in 1996 in Oak Ridge, North Carolina, Ashnikko grew up in Greensboro. She discovered rap around age 11, listening to M.I.A. In her teens she lived in both Estonia and Latvia, where her father was working. It was during this period that she began making her own music, influenced by artists like Nicki Minaj, Björk, and other artists. In 2017, she released a digital EP, the Raf Riley-produced Sass Pancakes, which included the track "Krokodil." A second EP, Unlikeable, followed in 2018 and included the song "No Brainer." In 2019, Ashnikko returned with the five-track EP Hi It's Me, which featured the song "Stupid" with Yung Baby Tate. The track and video went viral on several platforms, helping it reach number one on both the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart and Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop chart. That same year, she toured with Danny Brown. "Cry," a collaboration with Grimes, arrived in June 2020.

Yeah 'Say It' is a bit cheesy but a good song. Its a pity Maria Rubia didn't have much of a chart career, Fragma also should have continued to have hits in 2002-3 when other eurotrance artists like Lasgo were popular.

CD sales were decent around xmas time until 20010 or so but other than that and charity records they were dead similar to iTunes now. So the downloads only really started to become huge around 2007, always remember in oct 2007 at the start of the Q4 season Leona and Take That went head to head and 'Bleeding Love broke 200k downloads and 'Rule the World' nearly 100k which was what I looked at as the beginning of the real huge download sales.

nice for Kelis to (probably) finally get another top 100 hit a decade after Bounce was her last one, I just wish it were with Disclosure instead of Ashnikko whose song I'm not a fan of.

Those sort of acts all had like 1 or 2 big hits and gradually trailed off with each release, although I loved them.
