It's time! 2023 has been the best year I've had in a while, and as always, it's been documented by some great entertainment. Soon, I'll be counting down my 300 favourite songs of the year, though that countdown won't begin just yet. A few other countdowns will be happening beforehand. This is what to expect, in order:

- Favourite TV shows of the year (sorted by genre)
- A brief look at my favourite movies of the year
- Hit 300 Awards: acknowledging various aspects of my music listening this year that aren't covered by my song and album countdowns, including Artist of the Year
- Top 15 EPs
- Top 50 albums
- Top 300 songs

A reminder of the EOY Hall of Fame. Last year, Ruel took the crown for the first time with his banger YOU AGAINST YOURSELF, narrowly beating David Guetta & Bebe Rexha and Harry Styles to the top, while Harry took the album crown home for the first time (amazingly!). Who will be joining the list this year?

Singles

2012 Girls Aloud - Something New
2013 Ulrik Munther - Heroes in Defeat (Change Your Mind)
2014 Iggy Azalea feat. Charli XCX - Fancy
2015 Conrad Sewell - Hold Me Up
2016 Frans - If I Were Sorry
2017 Harry Styles - Sign of the Times
2018 Why Don't We - Hooked
2019 Oscar Enestad - I Love It
2020 The Kid LAROI - NEED YOU MOST (So Sick)
2021 The Kid LAROI & Justin Bieber - STAY
2022 Ruel - YOU AGAINST YOURSELF

Albums

2012 Justin Bieber - Believe
2013 Ulrik Munther - Rooftop
2014 The Vamps - Meet The Vamps
2015 Troye Sivan - Blue Neighbourhood
2016 Benjamin - Fingerprints
2017 Declan McKenna - What Do You Think About the Car?
2018 Why Don't We - 8 Letters
2019 Greyson Chance - portraits
2020 The Kid LAROI - F*CK LOVE (SAVAGE)
2021 The Kid LAROI - F*CK LOVE 3: OVER YOU
2022 Harry Styles - Harry's House

A good place to look to see what's contending for #1 this year is, of course, my #1s list for 2023. The Kid LAROI became the first artist to score 17 total #1s recently, with a huge eight of those coming from 2023. S Club scored the longest running #1, with These Are the Days spending five weeks at the top. Their other chart topper, Don't Stop Movin', won't be eligible to feature (nor will Taylor Swift's Enchanted), but everything else in the list below will feature in the countdown. Two more chart weeks will be counting to this EOY so this list may not be comprehensive by the time my main countdown begins!

TV: Quiz Shows

1 The 1% Club | Series 2
2 Ant & Dec's Limitless Win | Series 2
3 Michael McIntyre's The Wheel | Series 3-4
4 Family Fortunes | Series 3
5 The Hit List | Series 6
6 The Weakest Link | Series 2-3
7 Beat the Chasers | Specials

The line-up of quiz shows this year remains largely unchanged. The 1% Club wins for a second year in a row, thanks to a mix of its genius concept and well-chosen host in the quick-witted Lee Mack. In the show, 100 contestants have to answer logic questions that have been tested on members of the public. The first question is one 90% of the population is expected to get right, working down to the final 1% question, and if you get one question wrong, you're out! This year's series was greatly enhanced by a play-along app, incentivising live viewing and also offering daily questions between episodes (and between series). An extended third series has been commissioned for 2024, a testament to how great the show is!

Another newer show, Ant & Dec's Limitless Win proved just as tense a second time round. The charisma from the hosts shines through as you'd expect, but a fantastic concept surrounding questions with number answers is where the gripping element of the show lies. If your answer is under, you lose one life for every number out you are. If your answer is even 1 over... it's game over! So dramatic and another one that's fun to play at home.

There's room for pure silliness too, with Michael McIntyre's The Wheel continuing to be throwaway fun enhanced by a constant stream of hilarity from its host. Family Fortunes is equally ridiculous at times, and perfect viewing for a belly laugh. I continue to love The Hit List too, a show that can both boost my music confidence and knock it down, depending on the category/theme of each round...! The Weakest Link is enjoyable viewing and Romesh Ranganathan adds some good humour, and Beat the Chasers rounds out the section, only last by default as it hasn't aired a full series in 2023 for some reason.

I do (still) like The 1% Club! Really great format. I've not seen too much of The Hit List this year but did catch a bit of the Eurovision special, the speed at which they could recognise Eurovision songs was insane laugh.gif

I do (still) like The 1% Club! Really great format. I've not seen too much of The Hit List this year but did catch a bit of the Eurovision special, the speed at which they could recognise Eurovision songs was insane laugh.gif

TV: Discoveries

1 Girls Aloud: Off the Record
2 Eyewitness

The discoveries category is for shows from the past that I've only watched for the first time in this past year. It doesn't include any currently airing show that I arrived a little late to. Last year's winner was a big one, the indomitable Lost, an iconic, groundbreaking series. This year, we have the same! For different reasons kink.gif The winner this year is Girls Aloud: Off the Record. You might be wondering why I hadn't seen this before, as a notably huge Girls Aloud fan. The answer is that I just never got round to it. I was nine when it aired so I'm not sure I knew it was happening...! Jay and Craig have nagged me for years but finally, I gave in over the summer and watched it, much to my amusement. It was a hilarious insight into the day-to-day life of Girls Aloud as they did everything they could to make Whole Lotta History a success. The show is packed with iconic memes from gay Twitter and it's heartwarming to know the girls watched it together when they reunited at Sarah's house before her passing.

The other show I discovered this year was called Eyewitness, which came up as a recommendation on TV Time, the app I use to help me track my TV viewing. It's a show set in a small town in the US, focused primarily around two teenage boys who fall in love, one of whom is living with his adopted family, the other with a very conservative dad. Together, they witness a triple murder, which is solved as the series goes on. Only one series of the show happened as it wasn't renewed, but I don't feel like it needed to be, it wrapped the series up nicely with a happy ending. The downside was it was a bit slow moving, and the characters outside of Philip and Lukas just weren't as gripping. Either way, it was worth a watch!

TV: Comedy

1 Abbott Elementary | Season 2
2 Dreamland | Series 1
3 Mrs. Brown's Boys | Series 4 + Specials

Last year's comedy winner was Channel 4's breakthrough series Big Boys, created and written by Jack Rooke with a hilarious semi-autobiographical experience of university, friendship and sexuality. Series 2 of Big Boys is due to land in the new year, so it's not able to win a second year in a row. Abbott Elementary steps up to claim this year's title. The mockumentary-style sitcom set in a school from the perspective of its mish-mash of teachers is genius, with each individual character bringing something hilarious to the show. Huge shoutouts to the chaotic Principal Ava, the tender, old-fashioned Barbara and, of course, the loveable central character Janine.

I was really looking forward to seeing one of my favourite singers, Lily Allen, and favourite Doctor Who companions, Freema Agyeman, starring in a show together. Dreamland brought this unlikely pairing together for a strong mix of drama and comedy, following a dysfunctional family of sisters. Lily displays great acting chops and is totally believable as the trainwreck sister Mel, while Freema steals the show as Trish, a total contrast to Mel in just about every sense. There's no news of a second series yet but I hope one arrives because there's definitely more ground to cover.

A staple in my lists through its festive specials, Mrs. Brown's Boys actually aired a series for the first time in a decade this year. It felt great to see an extended run of episodes, with lots of warmth and heart as always with plenty of laughs. Divisive it may be, but Mrs. Brown is consistently good for me and I can't wait for two more festive episodes to come!

TV: New Drama

1 Wolf Pack
2 Wednesday
3 School Spirits
4 The Chosen One
5 The Imperfects
6 Gotham Knights

The announcement of Paramount+ original series Wolf Pack felt very much like a sidepiece to the announcement of the Teen Wolf movie. It comes from the same head writer as Teen Wolf, but is not a spin-off and is based on a novel by Edo van Belkom. I was keen to watch, but what I saw was immensely impressive. The core cast of four teenagers featured four newbies to the world of acting, with Armani Jackson leading the way as anxiety-ridden, newly-bitten werewolf Everett Lang, alongside Bella Shepard as outcast Blake Navarro, and wolf twins Harlan and Luna, played by Tyler Lawrence Gray and Chloe Rose Robertson. Each of them developed their character really well across what proved to be a slow-moving show, and I don't mean that in a bad way. Every scene had breathing space. Every connection felt real and true, so a huge testament to the genius casting and strong writing. Tying it all together were the big name castings: Rodrigo Santoro, the twins' adoptive father Garrett Briggs, alongside the biggest deal, Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played arson investgator Kristin Ramsey. Sarah was just as impressive as you'd expect, and it got Wolf Pack off to an amazing start. It ended on a huge cliffhanger and season 2 still hasn't been renewed (nor cancelled), so I am BEGGING it comes through soon as I am desperate to see more!

It came out in 2022 but I only watched Wednesday in early 2023, which is soon enough for me to feel it's fair to include it in this list as opposed to discoveries. I wasn't sure what to expect, being entirely unfamiliar with anything Addams Family related, but I really loved the show once I got used to the initial concept. Jenna Ortega steals the show of course, but the ensemble cast provide a strong backing. There's so much to enjoy and I cannot wait for season 2! Another show lucky to be renewed was School Spirits, another Paramount+ original. Peyton List leads the cast as Maddie, a girl who wakes up in school to find out she's dead and is a ghost stuck inside the school building. With other ghosts, she sets about solving the mystery of her death. It's a brilliant concept and comes with some excellent twists and turns!

Netflix's The Chosen One (dubbed from El Elegido in Spanish-speaking territories), based on comic book series American Jesus, was a random show for me to watch but I thoroughly enjoyed. It was eerie, sometimes ueasy viewing, with a young boy who discovers he has Jesus-like powers, and is subsequently worshipped as such. A renewal is yet to come but hopefully one arrives. We round the section out with two shows that were sadly cancelled. The Imperfects follows a trio of young adults who develop unusual abilities following experimental gene treatment. It's chaotic and wild but I enjoyed it a lot and it came to a solid ending if you forget the last couple of minutes that added a cliffhanger element!! Gotham Knights was a show following the kids of Batman and the Joker, who are forced to become allies when they go on the run after being falsely accused of killing Batman. Superhero stuff isn't really my thing but this was good fun. I wasn't hugely craving a second season so I wasn't gutted when it got cancelled but it was solid and enjoyable throughout, and a huge shoutout to its inclusive casting and characterisation.

TV: Entertainment

1 Dragons' Den | Series 20
2 Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway | Series 19
3 In for a Penny | Series 5
4 Gogglebox / Celebrity Gogglebox | Series 21-22 / Series 5

This category is unchanged in the four shows appearing, but the order is almost entirely reshuffled. This year, Dragons' Den takes the title of my favourite entertainment show. I got back into Dragons' Den during the pandemic after not watching it for years, and the current line-up of dragons is one of the best yet. From long-term legends Peter Jones and Deborah Meaden, to newbie Steven Bartlett, each dragon brings something unique to the show. Whether it be Deborah's eco-friendly stance, Sara's warmth, or Touker's hilarious bluntness, the show's never felt so entertaining based on just the dragons. The products and business owners hoping for an investment are a mixed bag as always, but the Den became a must-visit location every week it aired earlier in 2023.

Ant & Dec remain on strong form with Saturday Night Takeaway, bringing 90 minutes of solid fun each week. One more series is on the way before the show is rested once again, and if it continues like this year, it's going out on a high. Its spin-off show In for a Penny drops a couple of places after winning this category last year, but I still love how barmy it is, helped along by the charisma of Stephen Mulhern. Gogglebox comes in last, still being fun viewing though I'm less into it than I was during the pandemic when I first got into it.

TV: Soaps

1 EastEnders
2 Emmerdale
3 Coronation Street

It's all change in the soap ranking this year as it's flipped totally on its head. EastEnders comes up top this year after a blockbuster year. From 2016 to part way through 2022, EastEnders became habit viewing for me, with most episodes containing nothing of substance and its big moments being totally ludicrous with no aftermath or heart. All of that changed with the arrival of Chris Clenshaw, who's ensured the show has gone from strength to strength since his arrival. Not only did he tidy up the plots of previous producer Jon Sen in style, he got the ball rolling on his own storylines, including the big headline: the Six. A flash-forward to Christmas 2023 teasing a death, and something to do with six iconic women that are the centrepiece of the show in the form of Linda, Denise, Kathy, Stacey, Suki and Sharon. The build-up has been so good, with each storyline unfolding individually. Particular highlights of the year have involved Stacey's stalking ordeal and Suki's affair with Eve. Away from the Six, I loved the surprise return of Cindy Beale from the dead and the introduction of the Knights, who have been a brilliant addition to the soap. I can't wait for the Christmas episode this year, it's going to be one for the history books!

Emmerdale remains consistently strong as it always does. It's had the least variation in quality over the nearly two decades I've watched, which makes it reliable viewing. Highlights from 2023 include Paddy's depression and suicide attempt, highlighting the dramatic skills of Dominic Brunt who's become more known for his comedic skills in recent years, as well as Dan's "one punch could kill" storyline which broke his family apart, and Mackenzie's love triangle with Chloe and Charity which came to a head on Super Soap Week, where he had to choose whose life to save. Lydia's rape was a heartbreaking storyline too, with a particular highlight of 2023 being the week of Dingle-focused episodes as they all delivered their alibis for where they were during the suspicious death of her attacker.

Meanwhile, Coronation Street sinks to last in a ropier year than usual. The show's had strong points of course, including Daisy's stalker ordeal and the major moment of Justin throwing acid at her, injuring Ryan severely as he tried to save her. The aftermath is still unfolding, though it's kinda dragged out and it's put me off Ryan as a character when the intention seems to be to be sympathetic. Nothing against Daisy actress Charlotte Jordan or Ryan actor Ryan Prescott, who continue to act their socks off, but the subsequent affair has grown a little tiring. The conclusion of serial killer Stephen Reid's storyline was strong, though the road towards it was bumpy, thanks in part to Todd Boyce's questionable acting and accent. Iconic stalwarts including Gail and Audrey were severely underused through the storyline, and even David barely got a look-in until after Stephen's death, but the aftermath has been strong and involved the whole family. I have really enjoyed Paul's motor-neurone disease storyline though, with top performances from Peter Ash as Paul, Daniel Brocklebank as Billy and Jane Hazlegrove as Bernie. It's been a mixed bag for Corrie, so in 2024 I hope to see a little more consistently, as well as more focus on some of the soap legends who haven't appeared much in 2023 like Sally, Ken, Rita, Kevin, Abi, Eileen and Debbie to name a few!

TV: Competition Shows

1 Big Brother [UK] | Series 20
2 Big Brother [US] | Season 25
3 Big Brother Canada | Season 11
4 RuPaul's Drag Race / RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars | Season 15 / Season 7
5 The Apprentice | Series 17
6 Celebrity Race Across the World | Series 1
7 The Traitors [US] | Season 1
8 RuPaul's Drag Race UK | Series 5
9 Strictly Come Dancing | Series 21
10 Survivor UK | Series 1
11 I'm a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! / I'm a Celebrity…South Africa | Series 23 / Series 1
12 The Masked Singer | Series 4
13 Gordon Ramsay's Future Food Stars | Series 2
14 The Amazing Race | Season 35
15 The Challenge USA | Season 25
16 Next Level Chef | Series 1
17 Britain's Got Talent | Series 16
18 The Great British Bake Off | Series 14

Once again, competition shows is the most populous category, and last year's winner The Traitors hasn't returned for its second series just yet, so it can't defend its crown. This leaves an open goal for my favourite reality show Big Brother, but in what format? I actually typically prefer the American format, also utilised in Canada, but the returning UK series had a particular magic to it this year so it clinches the win. The majority of the qualms I had in the final years on Channel 5 were immediately ironed out by ITV. A range of personalities were cast, leading to an interesting and constantly changing dynamic, with the public fiercely backing their favourites with relatable, "real" people entertaining us every night. Yinrun was my favourite, but I couldn't complain at Jordan winning when he defined the whole series.

I really enjoyed BBUS this year too though, only being let down by the writers' strike necessitating an extended season - 100 days!!! - to fill the scheduling gap for CBS. A week of no game in the middle disrupted the flow, allowing for Survivor legend Cirie Fields' game to crumble as comp beasts Jag and Cameron dominated the physical side of things, which seemed to become more important. That said, icons like Cirie and Felicia kept my attention always and the casting was strong, a far cry from what it was a few years back. BBCan suffered a similar issue with competitions dictating a little too much of what's meant to also be a social game, notably for winner Ty who could be guaranteed to win either head of household or the power of veto in the second half of the game. Thank god for the icon we had in Kuzie though *.* a great season despite the comp over-reliance and I'm glad the lack of feeds wasn't detrimental enough to lead to a cancellation.

I enjoyed non-Big Brother shows too this year, believe it or not...! Drag Race was on fine form in both the UK and USA, and the latter grabs it for me this time round. A strong fifteenth season, spearheaded by worthy winner Sasha Colby, helped my love of the franchise grow stronger, only to be cemented by the seventh all-star season with the *iconic* Jimbo finally joining the winners circle. The UK series was great too, with a consistent quality among the queens, albeit less of a clear standout favourite queen for me (Michael Marouli became my favourite though). I decided not the peep Drag Race Down Under this year but the three aforementioned seasons kept my Drag Race appetite suitably whetted!

Many of the shows in this list are mainstays. The Apprentice continues to be heaps of fun as everyone remains incompetent at business and sales (more than ever this year, it felt), I was really invested in this year's Strictly Come Dancing particularly thanks to the incredible talent of Layton Williams and his partnership with Nikita Kuzmin, and even the presence of a hideous politician didn't dull I'm a Celebrity's shine for me personally, its position strengthened by the South Africa all-star series won by the insane strength of Myleene Klass. If you haven't seen her winning trial, you MUST watch it!!! The Masked Singer was as fun as ever with little more to add about its format, Britain's Got Talent feels a distant memory for me this year but I did enjoy it and I found Bruno Tonioli to be a brilliantly chaotic addition to the judging panel, and though I did enjoy Bake Off more than last year (thanks in part to Alison Hammond joining as host), it was background viewing much of the time.

Newer shows dominate the list too this year! Lotti encouraged me to tune in to Celebrity Race Across the World, insisting I'd enjoy it, and she was right! I'll absolutely be watching the next civilian series now, I enjoy watching how the pairings' relationships develop as the show goes by, a particular highlight being how close Mel Blatt and her mum were, as well as the superb team spirit of Harry Judd and his mum. The Traitors got off to a great start in the US with the iconic Cirie Fields running rings around everyone, and Survivor UK has been a strong first impression of the franchise for me!

Elsewhere, Gordon Ramsay's two shows feature lower down, but I did definitely enjoy both. Future Food Stars was another fun outing with a definite nod to The Apprentice in its format, while Next Level Chef's high-octane format (new to the UK this year) made for exhilarating viewing. Sadly, both were cancelled after airing. I enjoyed The Amazing Race more this year than last, with the adorable father/son bond of Rob and Corey being a strong pull for the series, and my first viewing of any format of The Challenge was pretty good, with me being drawn in to watching the second season of the new CBS edition of the show by the presence of my Big Brother favourite Tyler Crispen. Half the competitors were irritating and arrogant but I couldn't complain at all at the winners!

baby we don't stop and we don't quit *.* I keep seeing so much about the housemates on my socials, which wasn't the case for any of the Channel 5 series I peeped! Love that it's captured the zeitgeist so perfectly. I hope CBB sticks the landing next year!

I've felt invested in Strictly a lot this year, more than usual thanks to Layton and Nikita! Nikita's been my fave professional for a while now so it's been great to see him finally reach the final. Jealous of you attending the tour, please tell me all about it!!!

TV: Returning Drama

1 Doctor Who | Specials
2 Heartstopper | Season 2
3 The Summer I Turned Pretty | Seasons 1-2
4 Sweet Tooth | Seasons 1-2
5 Manifest | Season 5
6 Outer Banks | Season 3
7 Ginny & Georgia | Season 2
8 Superman & Lois | Season 3
9 Surviving Summer | Season 2
10 Good Trouble | Season 5
11 Nancy Drew | Season 4
12 Waterloo Road | Series 11-12
13 La Brea | Seasons 1-2
14 The Beaker Girls | Series 2
15 The Dumping Ground | Series 10

Though the competition shows category has the most shows, this is the category that is the most *stacked*. Honestly, what a year it's been for drama! Even more impressive when you consider US shows have been greatly impacted by the writers' strike so stuff's not been in production for a significant period of the year. Of course, my top couple of songs aren't affected by that anyway, as British shows. For the first time since I started doing these countdowns a couple of years ago, Doctor Who takes the title of #1 drama series. I'm not one of those people who didn't enjoy the Jodie Whittaker era, though there is a lot that I felt didn't work among some fantastic moments. With Russell T Davies back as executive producer and head writer, and a three-episode run of David Tennant returning to portray the Fourteenth Doctor alongside former companion Donna Noble (Catherine Tate), both my favourite Doctor and companion, for the 60th anniversary celebrations, my excitement couldn't have been higher. Thankfully, it didn't disappoint. The episodes were wildly different from each other, packing in nostalgia and a sense of freshness at the same time, and it set up the new era with Ncuti Gatwa at the helm so beautifully. What an incredible time to be a Doctor Who fan!

The winner of my new drama category last year, Heartstopper season 2 was a very strong return. It hit every spot that season 1 hit, and probed further beyond the fluffy lightness that season 1 excelled at. Of course, even at its deepest moments, optimism and comfort remained core themes of the show, and I love that it's continuing to subvert expectations by keeping its couples together, instead of them breaking up at any minor inconvenience for the sake of drama. A show like Heartstopper is so important and I adore that it's had such a gigantic impact across the world. Ginny & Georgia also returned for a strong season 2, upping the ante from its already strong debut season after a two year wait for it to arrive. Huge shoutout to its lead stars Antonia Gentry and Brianne Howey respectively for their insane chemistry as the show explores their complicated relationship and its effect on those around them. Surviving Summer's second season was a big step up from its first season too, with each character feeling much more fleshed out, helped by the introduction of unapologetic antagonist Wren, turning the show from light teen fluff about surfing to some really gripping drama!

This category also includes shows I discovered this year that also aired a brand new season in 2023, notably The Summer I Turned Pretty. I discovered the show just a week or so before season 2 began, and I very quickly watched through season 1 without even trying to binge because I was SO gripped to the juicy love triangle drama. All of the leads are so captivating, but Gavin Casalegno's Jeremiah has my heart! I seem to be on the opposing view to the majority that Jeremiah is the better of the two love interests. Another discovery this year was Sweet Tooth, a fantasy/sci-fi show about a "hybrid" boy called Gus, who is a human kid with deer features, including antlers. The story explores how he came to be, as well as how the world sees people like him, whilst also showing the catastrophic impacts of a pandemic (that was believed to be caused by the hybrids, who conveniently showed up at the same time). The chemistry between Gus and "Big Man" Tommy Jeppard is beautiful, as is the world-building and cinematography of the show, especially in its first season. A third and final season has been confirmed and filmed already, so I'm really excited to see how this touching story concludes.

Unfortunately, 2023 saw the conclusion of Manifest's fourth and final season, after the first ten episodes arrived in 2022. I really loved the final run of the show and I think it ended really beautifully, particularly on a character level. Much like Lost, the show it's compared to in terms of its mystery (and involvement of a plane), it wrapped things up on a character level without fully explaining the science behind the events in the show, but I'm totally cool with that as I was really invested in the journeys each character went on. I'm so happy Netflix gave it the chance to finish its story after the initial cancellation it faced from its original network! Nancy Drew also aired its final episodes in 2023, with its final run being mostly dedicated to the curse placed upon Nancy and Ace to stop them being able to act on their feelings towards each other. It was a strong conclusion to an enjoyable show, though I do wish the show had had time to really delve into the dynamic of love and adoration those characters obviously share!

Outer Banks returned for another fantastic season, though season 3 unfortunately wasn't quite as good as its predecessors for me. The big letdown was Big John, John B's father who was previously assumed dead until the cliffhanger of season 2. Their reunion is touching, but when Big John hangs around, he only serves to keep John B away from his fellow pogues, aka the people he shares the best camaraderie with, whilst also driving a wedge between John B and Sarah. The events of the finale prove as something of a relief, but it does end on a spectacular high and I did still find lots to enjoy, with JJ and Kiara taking centre stage and Pope and Cleo being super easy to root for too. On the other hand, Superman & Lois soared with its third season, offering its best outing to date. As I said before, I'm not usually wild on superhero shows, so Superman & Lois excels when it focuses on its human drama among the superhero goings-on, and season 3 did just that with Lois' cancer diagnosis. It led to some of the most touching scenes the show has given us to date between Lois, Clark and their kids, with Tyler Hocehlin, Alex Garfin, the newly cast Michael Bishop, and particularly Elizabeth Tulloch pulling in barnstorming performances. The sad news has recently arrived that Superman & Lois will be ending with season 4, having already truncated its main cast significantly for its next run of episodes, but I'm so glad it hit its stride in a big way in 2023. Good Trouble is also ending in 2024 when the second half of season 5 airs, but it's been such a consistently strong show, with part 1 of the season being top notch once again even without Maia Mitchell as a regular cast member any longer.

Finally, at the bottom end, Waterloo Road made a solid comeback with some suitably OTT drama but not quite at the level of silliness that it ended up with in its original run, much to my relief! La Brea was an exciting concept that's been slightly messy in execution so far but it's been a fun and gripping watch nonetheless. It's ending in 2024 with a reduced episode count, with its viewership likely not justifying its budget, but hopefully it at least answers some of its major questions. Two Tracy Beaker related dramas close out the section in distant last, no surprise being two shows aimed largely at kids so my expectations are very different for them. The Beaker Girls seemed to branch out beyond just Tracy, Jess and Jordan and into the extended family and friends of the group, and I'm not hugely gutted it's concluded there, but still cute to see all the callbacks to Tracy's past, notably with Elaine and Mike making appearances! The Dumping Ground had an almost entirely new cast for series 10 which did see the loss of some of its heart in my view, especially with key players Jody and Floss leaving, but it's light fun regardless.

Doctor Who back on top as it should be *.*
was so good to have Tennant & Tate back even if only briefly as S4 was arguably the best ever, the final of this year's specials in particular was the best in many years.
the set-up for Gatwa era looks a lot more promising than Whittaker era which I wasn't so keen on anyhow

I quite enjoyed (both seasons of) Heartstopper this year too, don't usually go for rom coms but thought I'd give it a go given the mass love it got online. Wednesday was really great fun to watch too.
