Playlisted on BBC Radio 2, went straight to the A list cheer.gif

Second single! cheer.gif

With a Brits performance, could this have a SLY moment and become the Christmas no.1?! A ballad is better than Clean Bandit dance like last year!

The Brits are in February usually. Xmas #1 would be a dream but I think it’s done well enough already so I’m not gonna expect too much.

Posted by: Mack. 22nd November 2018, 11:14 AM

It's most likely a pipedream that it would be a Xmas #1, can't see that happening.

Posted by: SKOB 22nd November 2018, 03:12 PM

Tbh I expect this to sell the soundtrack, it has over 50m listens on Spotify already so it won't chart much higher than it already does but airplay is good for xmas album sales.

Posted by: Botchia 25th November 2018, 03:29 PM

This needs a big TV performance to catapult it to #1

What a song *.*

Posted by: Buttered Muffin 25th November 2018, 04:27 PM

ST BOTCHIA IS A CRUELLA DE VILLE FLERRP!!

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 6th December 2018, 11:10 AM

Is there any hope of it improving on its current peak? I BADLY want it to.

Posted by: dancember 6th December 2018, 11:22 AM

Very unlikely as it's just about to hit ACR.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 22nd December 2018, 01:31 AM

Looks like it's avoided ACR. It's flirting with going top 10 on iTunes again, maybe after the Christmas songs clear away and with a gift card effect this could ignite?

Posted by: SKOB 22nd December 2018, 10:32 AM

I doubt that it can return to top 40 but helping the album nicely and Enigma + the Globes are just around the corner.

Posted by: HausofTove 26th December 2018, 08:36 PM

This has become such a massive favourite of mine over the past few weeks. <333

Posted by: SKOB 27th December 2018, 01:21 PM

Is it still playlists on R2?

Posted by: HausofTove 22nd February 2019, 08:57 AM

Back in the top 10 on US iTunes wub.gif

Shallow still #1 ~

Posted by: BigMixer 23rd February 2019, 03:08 PM

So far this has been officially released as a single in : Italy, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Germany and Austria.

They better not screw it up in the US, we need the radio release date ASAP.

Re-enters the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 47 this week.

Posted by: HausofTove 11th March 2019, 09:04 PM

When is this getting a big worldwide push sad.gif

Posted by: Spiceboy 11th March 2019, 09:34 PM

I don't think it is. It's time seems to have passed pretty sure Gaga will focus on Vegas and her next album now...

Posted by: davidas 12th March 2019, 12:14 PM

So annoying that this probably isn't being released. Could help album sales massively over the next few months, plus a big performance of it would cause it to surge up the Worldwide charts. cry.gif

Posted by: SKOB 12th March 2019, 02:28 PM

It's of course "released" (almost 170m listens on Spotify), so it's about playlist push and airplay.

Posted by: HausofTove 12th March 2019, 02:53 PM

Yeah perhaps when Shallow dies down the playlists will add this and it'll get the push it needs.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 22nd March 2019, 09:46 PM

100m views now on VEVO / YouTube.

Her 18th video to achieve 100m views.

Posted by: BigMixer 22nd March 2019, 11:25 PM

This is still charting in the US [#100 this week], literally screaming to be a single and yet it continues to be ignored. Let's hope the LG6 era ends up being successful, if not, I'll never forgive them for not releasing this.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 23rd March 2019, 02:07 AM

I kinda think Shallow performing so well hindered fully pushing other singles as it may have detracted from that reaching a solid peak.

I was expecting Shallow to be a top 15 hit at best and it ended up going to #1 in so many countries which came as a fantastic shock but I feel that meant Shallow got all the major pushes and the most attention even in the film itself it’s used three times.

Shallow was also the song nominated at award ceremony’s too (although at the Grammys I believe it was the only one that could be nominated due to the dates of release).

Both always remember us this way and I’ll never love again done well enough though and at least added to her UK top 40 tally if nothing else smile.gif

I personally also think that Gaga and her team were expecting I’ll Never Love Again to be the preferred song of the film outside of Shallow but Always Remember Us This Way seems to be the stan favourite from that era.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 12th October 2019, 10:57 AM

This really deserved to be her 'Someone Like You'.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 12th October 2019, 11:10 AM

Just imagine what would’ve happened with this If it got a proper push or had just one single TV performance?!

Shallow being so huge sort of prevented both Always Remember Us This Way and I’ll Never Love Again from reaching their full potential.

Posted by: SKOB 13th October 2019, 07:43 AM

It might still happen if it's nominated for Grammys! Although I can see Gaga performing new music and being nominated for ASIB.

Edit: Keep in mind she he did perform Joanne material at the 2018 Grammys, 1.5 years after the album release.

Posted by: HausofF 13th October 2019, 09:19 AM

If she is saving this for the Grammys it's a masterful strategy to keeping the era alive and would work wonders. Shallow has definitely cast a shadow on all the other songs in terms of success but this has done brilliantly despite that. wub.gif

This song would be as big as Someone Like You, Someone You Loved or All Of Me if it were released and worked on as an official single. Love songs (especially solo songs) tend to have high peaks and monster longevity, you just need to let people know the song exists and voilà!

Posted by: Sour Candy 16th February 2022, 03:46 PM

It is been discussed here many times: it was a single and reached airplay charts in several countries. Was even playlisted by BBC R2. What more she could've done? US pop radio didn't even play Shallow that much, why would've they played this?

ARUTW was a France-Italy-only single, where it went Diamond and Platinum, respectively, which shows its effortless success where it was released on radio. Being playlisted by the BBC doesn't mean anything.

And what kind of petty mentality is that? Paula Abdul's debut single didn't even make the Hot 100 and that didn't stop her, she persisted and got 4 consecutive #1 hits and another top 3 single with her debut album.

The first single from Gwen Stefani's debut album only reached #47 on the Hot 100 but she didn't give up the fight and it paid off: the next 4 singles from the album reached the Top 20 on the Hot 100, including two Top 10 hits, one of them being a #1 hit (first song to reach 1M downloads in US).

Just Dance only hit #1 after FIVE months within the Hot 100 and NINE months after its digital release. If Gaga had listened to biased advice like yours back then, she would never have released Poker Face, she would have missed the biggest hit of her career and worst of all, she would have given up on her career before it even started but thank God she didn't hear negative things like that.

Imagine if all these artists had given up at the first hurdle? Pop would definitely not be the same. I could give you many, many other examples of eras that didn't blow up immediately. Music industry is about struggle, resilience and persistence. The only losers are those who don't even try!

I really think this could have been a 'Someone Like You' moment for her if she'd done a big high-profile performance of it at an awards show or something.

Any reason why?

Posted by: Sour Candy 19th October 2022, 05:35 PM

No idea, the effect has faded out since. It is still charting in some countries but not that high.

Posted by: HausSucksBlood 19th October 2022, 06:14 PM

It's been climbing back up the US iTunes chart too! ohmy.gif

Posted by: Adelita 16th March 2023, 02:24 PM

The longevity of this song is something to be studied. Gradually it has become one of her biggest hits. An immense stupidity not to have released it as an official single.

Don't get why this flopped originally. I blame the label for not getting this ans Shallow on the radio and payola. She coulda had two IWALY in the USA if the label and her team had been on the ball... Musta just excepted floppage aftwr Joanne and Artpop?

The number of Spotify users has increased since 2018 a lot but still worth noting.

A timeless classic, despite only being a single in European markets, it's done so so so well. Proud of her!

This had big airplay success in several countries so I am not 100% buying "the non-single" status. It wasn't pushed in the US though, that much is true.

It was only released in France and Italy, that ain't "several countries" and hardly makes this song an official single.

Explain why

Posted by: Adelita 12th June 2023, 05:39 PM

This song was only officially released in France and Italy, it wasn't sent to US radio (one of only three countries to include airplay as a component of its charts along with Canada and Germany), so having released this song as a single only in those two countries wasn't a smart strategy and doesn't make it an official single.

Posted by: Rough_edges 12th June 2023, 06:42 PM

The song itself had a video was played on Radio stations here in the UK. Was on most playlists on Spotify and had heavy TV rotation. Was also in the charts for a while. Not sure what more could warrant a single without 'officially' declaring it.

Posted by: Adelita 12th June 2023, 10:39 PM

The song was never officially sent to UK radio, it was never an official single in the UK, only in France and Italy where it was officially sent to radio. If the song received any form of promotion in the UK through radio or TV, it was certainly organic because of the hype of the film and had no influence from her record company on that.

It should be noted that just sending the song to radio has no effect on the actual charts unless it's sent to US radio where airplay is one of the components of their chart. Radio is not a component neither of the UK charts nor of any European country except Germany, which has included this format on their metrics in recent years. Anyone who understands the slightest about charts knows that radio only has an impact on iTunes these days, and, as is well known, iTunes means nothing on the charts in the streaming era, so sending a song to radio stations in random countries these days is a dumb and outdated strategy, unless you send it to US radio, where that metric will actually push the song up the charts directly.

It was also never performed on any TV shows, its video is just snippets of the movie and it also never had huge playlist reach and it wasn't kept for a long time on big playlists, the song was extremely organic since day one and it was never an official single since it never had an official worldwide push like any official single gets.

Posted by: Rough_edges 13th June 2023, 12:53 AM

Lol

Posted by: Sour Candy 13th June 2023, 05:22 AM

So basically, being an official single wouldn't have changed a thing in terms of charting?

We know that US pop radio wouldn't have played this anyway and it was playlisted by BBC Radio 2.

We know that US pop radio wouldn't have played this anyway and it was playlisted by BBC Radio 2.

Shallow is a country song that starts with Bradley singing it, pop radio would never play it no matter how impactful the Oscar performance was. However, on adult radio, Shallow smashed, being the 2nd most successful song of 2019 at the AC format and the 11th at HAC. They should have worked Shallow on country radio instead of forcing it on pop because even Garth Brooks' cover of Shallow was successful on the format, not to mention the fact that country songs (except those by Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs) only make the Hot 100 because of the massive airplay of the country format. They missed a good meal by not sending Shallow to country radio.

Back to ARUTW, it's a way more radio-friendly song than Shallow, Shallow was only more successful because of the buzz surrounding the alleged affair between Gaga and Bradley, budget for being the lead single off the sountrack and the Oscar performance. If even Shallow managed to break into the overall top 10 on radio, ARUTW would have gone Top 5, hitting #1 at HAC/AC with ease and going Top 10 at pop radio with a little push from her label. Not officially releasing this song will always be one of the biggest mistakes of her career.
