King Of The Rodeo Peak at No. 41 23/04/05 - Kings Of Leon

I think this is possibly one of the most unfortunate official No 41s of all time. W/E 23 Apr '05 was the first (partially)combined official physical and digital singles chart, wherein digital sales were counted towards official chart positions for the first time, provided the track had an equivalent physical release that had been issued within the last 52 weeks. If I recall correctly, it was reported in Music Week that had the old physical-only chart still been in use as the official tabulation, 'King Of The Rodeo' would've scraped a No 37 placing. But as it was, thanks to the sudden influx of what were then relatively slender, but still significant-enough, download sales into the mix, official history will always record it as having not been a Top 40 hit.

3 weeks later Art Brut's Emily Kane reached #41, missing out on the top 40 by 2 sales (and would certainly have been top 40 on the physical-only chart). They never managed a top 40 hit.

We could've found out exactly where within the physical-sales-only Top 40 that track landed, but having scoured the OCC archive, it seems there's a mysterious gap in their physical archives from W/E 7 May to 3 September 2005, and so as this was 14 May, no joy. I wonder why this gap exists? Yet another inexplicable OCC inconsistency I suppose.

Top Off by DJ Khaled, Jay-Z, Future and Beyonce peaked at 41 four weeks ago, with too much urban infecting the charts right now - not a huge miss really.

I think RAYE's 'Cigarette' will end up peaking at #41 as well.

Added both to playlist. Maybe I should rename it "big names don't guarantee a hit".

Unfortunately it looks like Tom Walker needs to be added to the list cry.gif

Happy to be proven wrong! biggrin.gif

'Hunger' and 'Dark Vader' are both almost certainly #41-peakers now though.

Can anyone update the list seeing we have a potential number 41 peak this week with Polo G's Pop Out?

I think 'Pop Out' will continue to climb, it's still too early to add that.

Another potential addition is David Guetta 'Stay (Don't Go Away)', though it's at #43 this week so again a top 40 peak can't be completely ruled out.

The most recent #41 hit that definitely won't go top 40 I can think of is MoStack 'Wild'. Edit: Actually I think the Tyler the Creator AT that peaked at #41 was more recent ('Igor's Theme')

Anne-Marie's 'Perfect to Me' having a #41 peak is so satisfying.

All of these songs having #41 peaks is really unfortunate. (Not that I had any reasonable expectation that Tyler would be able to get all three of his eligible album tracks into the top 40 but annoying that he was that close to it, and 'IGOR'S THEME' is one of the best songs on the album!)

I actually thought Polo G was going to peak at #42 the week before last as that was the week his album dropped. Wouldn't mind seeing him still climb into the top 40.

After 13 months I've decided it's safe to add Polo G to the playlist! Also Guetta, Anne-Marie, Mostack and Tyler.

I did a bit of maintenance on the rest of it too, fixing the bit where I put the wrong Spencer Davis Group song on and adding some tracks that weren't previously on Spotify. I'm particularly glad 'Tasty Fish' by the Other Two is now on there. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/66xACxprx...kTLGuv9WfQhD6hg

Here are some more recent ones that can be added since the last update:

Clout - Nines
Medicine - James Arthur
Telepatia - Kali Uchis
Life Goes On - PS1 ft Alex Hosking
Get Into It (Yuh) - Doja Cat (though this one could still potentially climb higher)
Die4u - Bring Me The Horizon

Is anyone maintaining this list? If so, Sam Fender's 'Spit Of You' also peaked at #41 in October, not sure if there have been any others since then.
