So the new series of BGT kicks off tonight at 8pm, usual place.

Ant & Dec return as hosts and the judging panel remains the same for a 4th straight season. The golden buzzer also returns which grants an act a guaranteed place in the Semi-Finals when pressed by a judge/the hosts.

Anyone a fan of this here? I always enjoy the series & probably prefer it to the X Factor overall. Are there any particular type of acts you'd like to see win this year? I really wanted Darcy Oake to win it last year for a bit of variety as the winners always tend to be singing/dancing acts.

Posted by: Liаm 11th April 2015, 04:06 PM

Debating whether to even bother with this... This is probably double standards given I still love Big Brother and X Factor but it's so dull and predictable now. I'll probably just watch it simply because it's on when nothing much else is laugh.gif

This has been rather great so far! The Ant attacking dog and the singing dog were both brilliant. I didn't catch the beginning of the latter and just assumed it was a puppet - was gobsmacked when it walked off at the end!

Posted by: JoeyXCX 11th April 2015, 07:55 PM

The "dog vs. Ant" thing had me laughing harder than I have in ages laugh.gif Amazing, quality TV. The talking dog was a fantastic act though, left me gobsmacked!

Posted by: Suedehead2 11th April 2015, 08:00 PM

Oh dear, this brother / sister thing is really set up for the brother to be very good.

Posted by: Calum Hood 11th April 2015, 08:03 PM

He was incredible!

Posted by: Liаm 11th April 2015, 08:03 PM

CALLUM *.* (looks wise, voice was good but nothing AMAZING)

So cliche though, knew that was coming. Especially after she wasn't through. I felt sorry for her, she was basically scapegoated to build him up more really. They didn't even give her a chance - had to laugh at "you didn't get into it!". She had like two lines of Jessie Ware and like 20 seconds of U2...

Posted by: dandystar 11th April 2015, 08:05 PM

That quality in that performance was clearly down to the choice of song *.*

(Robyn for iTunes SMASH please)

Posted by: Josh. 11th April 2015, 08:05 PM

Hmm, he was alright but if I asked every person in my town centre to sing I could probably find about ten of him, I don't think I'd find ten of those skaters or the dog who lip synced..

Posted by: Ryan. 11th April 2015, 08:07 PM

I thought he was fantastic and I always appreciate when people perform songs in different arrangements to the original versions. His tone was incredible and to me he looks and sounds more like a star than the likes of Ben Haenow and Stevie McCrorie!

Posted by: Suedehead2 11th April 2015, 08:08 PM

He was good, but not anything exceptional. A vast improvement on his sister though.

Posted by: Suedehead2 11th April 2015, 08:09 PM

I think he missed the point of ventriloquism.

Posted by: dandystar 11th April 2015, 08:10 PM

Posted by: Suedehead2 11th April 2015, 08:12 PM

Posted by: Suedehead2 11th April 2015, 08:19 PM

What a dreadful final act.

Posted by: dandystar 11th April 2015, 08:21 PM

Did you not feel EMPOWERED?

Posted by: Dobbo 11th April 2015, 08:22 PM

Well barring that rather abject last performance there were some genuinely great acts tonight. Those roller skaters were amazing and the choir were rather excellent also. That talking dog act was good now but now we've all seen it once I don't think it'll be as good the next time.

Just an observation I've noticed down the series they tend to fill the first auditions show with some of the overall favourites so I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the choir, the skaters, that guy who got the golden buzzer and the talking dog all in the final.

Posted by: Suedehead2 11th April 2015, 08:28 PM

The choir didn't do a lot for me. They've had better choirs in previous series. However, I think they will probably make the semis and, perhaps, they will impress me more then. A top quality choir (and the Welsh have produced a lot of them) is a truly fantastic sound.

Posted by: Dobbo 11th April 2015, 08:29 PM

I can only recall one standout choir (Only Boys Aloud) being really great although I may have forgotten some other examples.

They were very good (and Welsh again). I'm sure there's been another good choir, but I can't remember a name.

That was an incredible first show - those death-defying rollerskaters, Wendy, the guy who sang DOMO.. wub.gif

Posted by: Mack 12th April 2015, 12:13 PM

Ruby Red Performers?

Sorry wasn't really that 'Ruby Red' for me.

Didn't anyone see Britain's Got More Talent where David Watson auditioned for the sixth time and actually got two 'Yeses' only for Simon to say 'No'.

Posted by: Rabbit Froot 12th April 2015, 12:28 PM

Oh dear, if you're auditioning six times, why can't you accept that it's not happening? laugh.gif

Posted by: Common Sense 21st April 2015, 02:14 PM

Great second show. The magician was fab. How the hell did he do that? The mum of 5 singer was very good and so was the lad who wrote the song for a girl. Really enjoying this series so far and much prefer BGT to XF.

Posted by: Liаm 25th April 2015, 07:30 PM

Within one second of looking at Isaac I knew I'd both hate him and he'd get through.

EDIT: decent enough voice, but it wasn't great when he went any higher than the "basic" notes of the song; when he went any higher his voice was a bit strained. I knew the judges would wet themselves though, they always do no matter how many singers of this type they hear!

I get that with all the supposedly good, 'original', singers. laugh.gif Especially the younger ones as they seem to get a free pass due to being younger! I guess I'm just difficult to please. tongue.gif

Posted by: Suedehead2 25th April 2015, 07:50 PM

I'm a little bit behind, so I've just seen that singer. He was OK, but nothing outstanding. It was, of course, obvious that the judges would love him.

Ah well, ad break skipped, so now it's this week's dance troupe.

I've seen an explanation for that trick. Put it this way, I'd like to see him doing it after getting someone to shuffle the cards first.

Posted by: Liаm 25th April 2015, 08:00 PM

What even is that dog act?! Wtf, surely the audience were pre-picked and told what to do? laugh.gif I don't get it. But hey maybe she was actually just a hypnodog, who knows.

I am exactly the same, so cynical with BGT acts (especially young singers)! I feel like, with a lot of the teen singers, if they were like 25ish and were on XF they'd not make it to the lives on X Factor.

Posted by: Ryan. 25th April 2015, 08:04 PM

Yikes, the first two shows were fantastic but tonight is absolutely awful. It's now relying on this pathetic hypnodog story which had the most obvious planted volunteers in history to carry it, but it's just dreadful.

We've only actually seen 3 "good" acts, and even then none of them were incredible. Very poor show after such a strong start to the series.

Posted by: liamk97 25th April 2015, 08:08 PM

How do they even get away with this staged tripe? Do they think the majority of the TV audience are that stupid to believe it?

Posted by: Liаm 25th April 2015, 08:10 PM

For the acts that seem to get hype, praise and get to the final I wouldn't be surprised if the audience was that stupid rotf.gif

Posted by: Suedehead2 25th April 2015, 08:11 PM

That last section was a complete waste of time.

Posted by: Liаm 25th April 2015, 08:14 PM

That is very true!

I too didn't really get the choir. I agree that they did have a great bond which was lovely to see but that didn't translate to a great performance. I felt they just shouted their way through.

Posted by: Joe. 25th April 2015, 08:21 PM

This was the first time I tuned in to BGT - and that dog...I couldn't work out if it was a really bad joke or if they think the viewers are really that stupid to believe that random 'line of people' were really falling asleep. Ant and Dec's acting was terrible.

And that's from two people who got their big break as actors.

Posted by: Juranamo 25th April 2015, 08:28 PM

Complete non-event of a golden buzzer... At least it wasn't a crappy singer-songwriter or a dance troop, I guess. laugh.gif I haven't seen any particularly great acts go through yet, a few that I've enjoyed, but none I'm overly fussed with!

Posted by: troylovesmusic 25th April 2015, 08:31 PM

Loved the choir heart.gif
Poor episode on the whole though sad.gif

Posted by: Jade 25th April 2015, 09:34 PM

Oh dear, I have absolutely no words for the 'hypnodog' thing. This episode was so staged that I couldn't even enjoy it properly. I miss the days when this was actually about the talent and it wasn't so obviously contrived, I was absolutely glued to it back in '08/'09.

It's a shame, because as people have already pointed out this had such a strong start.

Posted by: Liаm 25th April 2015, 09:41 PM

It's less about talent now and more about embarrassing everyone involved and ticking off all the boxes in terms of stereotypes. The last series I REALLY properly enjoyed tbh was the Spellbound one - FIVE years ago now!! Attraction in 2013 were astonishing though.

I would say "it's just good for entertainment" but if they carry on like this I shan't even be able to say that.

Posted by: Suedehead2 25th April 2015, 10:02 PM

I did and yes, everyone seemed to think it was rather embarrassing and the whole hypnodog fiasco was insulting to the viewers! The general response on my timeline was similar to the posts in here I'd say, many are saying the show is past its best etc. and this was the worst audiiton show they'd ever seen (some said "one of" the worst or words to that effect but still)!

The makers of the show will be monitoring Twitter etc. Let's hope they get the message. They may have thought that viewers would get the joke and find it amusing. Thankfully, that "bright idea" seems to have backfired.

Posted by: JosephStyles 25th April 2015, 10:46 PM

I didn't think it was TOO bad tonight - I liked the young lad who sang She's Always a Woman and there were some other good acts. The hypnotising dog was ridiculous though and that was a low point in BGT's history. I don't think the show's lost it by any means though, in fact I'm enjoying it more this series during the audition stage than I have in a few years!

In fact she's one of, if not THE, best singing acts they've had in the past few years.

Exactly drama.gif Even worse than the ginger kid, both are just exactly what you'd see anyone do after a few too many but because they have the balls to do it on TV it's suddenly a talent.

I know it's "entertaining" but why call it Britain's Got TALENT when most of the acts don't have it?!

WHY IS SHE ON THIS SHOW THOUGH? I like both her and Calum Scott but it irritates me that they become favourite to win Britain's Got Talent with a talent that is totally suited for X Factor. So we end up with a final of very little variety.

Shorter competition time and they're free to do what they want rather than be molded into something they don't particularly want to be.

Posted by: Liаm 9th May 2015, 08:05 PM

I understand it more with Ella as she's a songwriter and can perform her own songs whereas with themes like "disco week" and "#1s" they can very rarely perform their own songs. With Callum I'm not so sure, because he just turned Robyn into an acoustic song and you can do that easily on X-Factor as well whatever the theme happens to be.

Team UDI were very good too, but quite similar to Attraction. Still, visually stunning and they're way more talented than most of the acts this year.

Ever since Diversity, dance acts have had a problem. It's always going to be hard for a dance troupe to match them, but this lot gave it a good go.

I really didn't like the dance group. The vast majority don't impress me because they're all the same: fast, jolty movements and a few flips over a mashup of club/urban songs.

That's one of the things about the show. If I was a judge, I would be thinking "Are they going to be able to entertain me again in the semi-final?" and, thinking about a longer-term career, "Would I want to see them perform a full show?". With a lot of acts, however much I might like their audition, the answer to one or both questions is "No". With the Russian troupe, the answer to both questions is a definite "Yes".

Amanda Holden seems a bit bizarre looking at that list as well but it was the Shrek Musical performance wasn't it.

"Do you have another song?" ticked off on the bingo card. Almost got to the full house.

Posted by: Liаm 16th May 2015, 07:43 PM

Basically "we're yet to plug 1D so please sing their song" laugh.gif

They weren't that great anyway. The young boy was pretty awful actually, I know it sounds horrible but he really was. If he was ten years older and sang like that he'd be slated for being off key etc.

The granny act was ridiculous as well! I see so many of these acts and just think surely anyone can do that. The rubbery contortionist dancer was good though!

Act changes after the buzzers start now ticked off. HOUSE!

Guy with a tenor-ish crippled by nerves, we need another bingo card *_*

Lorraine was just a much worse version the funny keyboard lady from a few years ago that turned up on BOTS now and then, so unfunny.

Posted by: Mack 16th May 2015, 08:36 PM

This from Lorriane Bowen from 2007 singing "Crumble Song":

Apparently according to comments on this. She sang this on The Big Breakfast in the 90s.

All about her:

So happy that I watched this last night. Lorraine Bowen is the best thing I've seen on the show for years.

Posted by: Rooney 17th May 2015, 06:39 PM

Lorraine Bowen was so obviously a set-up - or maybe that's me just being cynical haha.

We do need some joke acts for the semi-finals, definitely!

Posted by: Liаm 17th May 2015, 06:44 PM

You're not alone, I watched her audition again this afternoon and did notice that Alesha pressing her buzzer looked a bit fake laugh.gif She seemed to look like she enjoyed it both before and after she pressed it to me.

The choir didn't do a lot for me. They've had better choirs in previous series. However, I think they will probably make the semis and, perhaps, they will impress me more then. A top quality choir (and the Welsh have produced a lot of them) is a truly fantastic sound.

I'm not keen on choirs at all. If we've seen one we've seen them all really.

She was great and what a catchy song. Loved it!

That's rather like saying all operas are the same. I'm not a fan of opera at all, but I wouldn't be quite so dismissive.

Urgh.

Posted by: JosephRomanyuta 20th May 2015, 10:19 PM

And it somehow gets worse than the semis line-up laugh.gif

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 20th May 2015, 10:27 PM

Please tell me like they are trolling us with 90% of these acts drama.gif

Who even are either of them?

Posted by: Liаm 20th May 2015, 10:38 PM

Lmao. Michael Flatley!!!!!!!!

I'm most excited for Ricky Martin and that's not necessarily for his music... Although his new song is banging. He mimed on X Factor in New Zealand so if it does that again, yawn. Alesha should be good too actually, but yeah pretty shit line-up.

Posted by: Joe. 20th May 2015, 10:43 PM

I was really hoping for X Factor alumni Leona or Little Mix along with a big star who'll already be in London for the Capital Summertime Ball Cough-Carly.

Awful.

The studio had to be evacuated today after builders discovered a unexploded 110lb World War II bomb near Wembley Stadium. The device has dealt with and removed.

What do people make of who has gone through to the semi-finals?

The hypro-dog not making the semi-final. Would have been a one-trick pony there in my opinion.
