Chart Highlights
  • Wiz Khalifa's "See You Again" remains at #1 for a third week. It stays at #1 on Digital Songs (316,000 copies sold), Streaming Songs, and On-Demand Songs, and closes in on the Radio Songs top ten at #11 after it made gains at pop, rhythmic, and urban radios.
  • Jason Derulo earns his sixth top-10 hit with "Want to Want Me". It moves up a spot to #9 on Digital Songs and passes 500,000 copies sold.
  • Performance gains from the ACM Awards on April 19 fully kick in this week. Little Big Town's "Girl Crush" sells another 110,000 copies and moves up seven to #18, giving the band their highest peaker and first top-20. Among other climbs, Florida Georgia Line's "Sippin' on Fire" leaps nine spots to #44 and Blake Shelton's "Sangria" jumps 29 spots to #64.
  • Panic! at the Disco debut at #40 with "Hallelujah". It's their second top-40 and highest-peaking song since "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" peaked at #7 nearly nine (!) years ago. The song also debuts on Rock Airplay at #31.
  • Other Action: Three other songs enter the top 20 this week: T-Wayne's viral hit "Nasty Freestyle" continues to make gains, surging 26 places to #17 and giving T-Wayne his first top-20 hit; David Guetta, Nicki Minaj, and Afrojack move up eight to #19 with "Hey Mama", giving David his 7th top-20, Nicki her 22nd, and Afrojack his second; and Meghan Trainor earns her third top-20 with "Dear Future Husband", which climbs four spots to #20. Further down, DJ Snake and AlunaGeorge earn their second and first top-40 hits respectively as "You Know You Like It" vaults 16 spots to #39.

It'll probably get there eventually, but I'm not sure about next week as I checked and it's got pretty much no airplay yet.

'Cheerleader' entering the Hot 100 - I wonder if this will be a properly big hit or just fizzle out like some other recent big European dance hits? (As in hits in Europe, I am aware OMI is Jamaican tongue.gif)

It seems like "Cheerleader" has had a remarkably quick rise on iTunes compared to "Waves" or "Prayer in C". In particular I recall "Waves" lingering within the bottom half of iTunes for months until it finally cracked the top 100 after it started getting pop airplay, but even then it rose maybe ten spots a week. "Cheerleader" on the other hand just kind of shot up into the top 50 in the past week, which probably bodes well for it. Its advantage is timing, I think, as it's being primed to become a summer hit. Maybe "Waves" would've done better if it was sent to pop radio a few months earlier.

Cheerleader is rising quickly on iTunes with virtually no airplay which bodes well. But I worry about timing -- I see another Rather Be where radio takes MONTHS AND MONTHS to come around and airplay finally peaks well after sales/hype/streaming has reached its peak. Radio is just such a dinosaur. I can easily see it being August before Cheerleader reaches top 10 airplay, which could mean Cheerleader will be lucky to make top 10 on the Hot 100. Hope I'm wrong though.

At least it'll have a long run if that's the case. 'Rather Be' could have went higher but its chart run wasn't bad at all in the end.
