I know we have a sales topic, but I just wanted to create some discussion around it, because some people don't view that topic. It'd be interesting to know what people felt, if they felt songs should have sold less/more and if there's any surprises.
The sales in red are what are educated estimates for the songs we haven't had updates on in a while, based on how well the do on streaming and iTunes UK Sales 965,000 Black Magic 653,500 Secret Love Song 640,703 Shout Out To My Ex 577,300 Wings 509,000 Hair 504,500 Move 496,000 Cannonball 485,000 Love Me Like You 285,000 [310,000] DNA 200,000 [300,000] Salute 200,000 Little Me 150,000 [195,000]Change Your Life 135,731 Touch 130,000 [150,000] How Ya Doin'? 90,000 [110,000] Word Up! |

Black Magic should have 2M sales by now, what a f***ing song! And I hate how underrated DNA is by the GP. It's one of my favorite girl group songs ever, I can't imagine any other group pulling it off like the girls do. So ahead of it's time.. It doesn't even fit in their debut I think.

I think this year could be very good for the girls certification wise, Wings to hopefully go platinum, CYL to hit silver, BM to sell a million and I don't think that 2X Platinum would be impossible for SOTME.

HYD is what stings the most for me. It's probably my favourite single from their debut (which doesn't say that much, given that they've all aged pretty poorly imo). The midweek release completely botched its chances -- they weren't the radio darlings they are now, so they really needed that high peak to secure airplay. Capital didn't even playlist it at the time, which is almost unthinkable nowadays. It's a shame, because I was so sure it would be a hit following the remix + stellar video + seemingly rapid iTunes climb.
Other than that, 'Move' and SLS both deserved to be huge, and I wish 'Hair' had taken off a little more, but they've all done brilliantly regardless. This post has been edited by Defaze: 4th January 2017, 04:55 PM |

I'd love to see Change Your Life get certified Silver and Salute go Gold as I've always felt they both deserved a lot better than they got. Black Magic has proved to be the single of our dreams and took the girls onto another level. This may be a slightly controversial opinion but I honestly believe that we would've have the current success of the Glory Days era if the Get Weird era hadn't been so big

I would have liked Salute to be higher up the list Damn, I forgot about 'Salute'. It deserved a whole lot more too -- ideally, I would've loved it to be the lead single for their second era, with 'Move' being pushed to single 2. It's still remarkable it went top 10 given that most of their hype had evaporated by mid 2014. I just wish it'd had more longevity, but again, radio wasn't particularly hot on them back then. Change Your Life is a strange one in the UK considering how much it smashed in Oz, should have peaked top 10 and gone at least Silver by now, How Ya Doin' likewise. Higher up I am surprised to think Little Me and Salute sold the same amount, I would say Little Me deserves silver but Salute should definitely be up there at Gold (We can blame Word Up! for that botchery.) I am quite shocked about DNA being that low (but then not really that low) definitely should have done much better. Wings should be and will rightfully so eventually go Platinum as it is an anthem and Black Magic and SOTME should both go double plat. Can see SOTME reaching it, but BM will take a few years now probably, maybe if they released a Greatest Hits... although it would freak me out if they did, I don't want them pulling a Saturdays on my arse.

Their singles sales are pretty spot on in terms of signature hits or whatever. The only one I think that would be higher now, would be 'Salute'. It tends to constantly be the biggest trickle seller from pre-Get Weird, and that's not just a few sales here and there, it tends to get one of the biggest boosts whenever they've promoted!
Their top 5 signature hits/most well remembered by the gbp, imo... 01. Black Magic 02. Shout Out To My Ex 03. Wings 04. Salute 05. Move ('Hair' and 'Secret Love Song' follow). |

For me I'd say it was be... 1) Black Magic 2) SOTME 3) Secret Love Song 4) Salute / Move 5) Hair 6) Wings I think they'd be seen as their hits that most people would know and remember. Hair came at a time when their airplay was so huge it was inescapable and the video is one of their 3 most viewed. DNA and Love Me Like You would come next and Touch will probably be top 4 before long, but the rest I'd say were largely forgotten by the general public. |

Sad to see that Move has sold less than Hair!

You could almost split LM's chart history into two halves- DNA & Salute as the first half, Get Weird and Glory Days as the second half
