Posted by: Gerald 26th October 2022, 05:15 PM

Out on 28/10/2022. Confirmed by Rihanna on her socials.

Posted by: JackTheeStallion 26th October 2022, 05:25 PM

So excited but at the same time I'm curious to have my expectations too high for some reason lmao

Posted by: Bjork 26th October 2022, 05:30 PM

Geri Helliwell cover biggrin.gif

Posted by: Ho-Lee Smokes 26th October 2022, 05:32 PM

her comeback being for a soundtrack , no baby no

Posted by: Lukuzz 26th October 2022, 06:02 PM

Please be amazing.

Hope that she releases an album next year

Posted by: DOT LETTUCE 26th October 2022, 09:10 PM

Just came here after seeing the short on Youtube. Got high hopes and I hope she delivers, just excited to hear new music from her.

And yes hopefully this soundtrack song will just be the warm up for a new album.

Posted by: JackTheeStallion 27th October 2022, 07:13 PM

Love the artwork!

Posted by: Gerald 27th October 2022, 07:47 PM

She looks absolutely gorgeous on the cover wub.gif. It looks like a mix of A Girl Like Me and Talk That Talk deluxe covers.

Posted by: JackTheeStallion 27th October 2022, 11:06 PM

Unsurprisingly but annoyingly not out until 5am

Posted by: Dot Fenty 27th October 2022, 11:11 PM

I guess giving it the 'delayed until 5am' treatment does suggest it's going to be getting some sort of promotional push at least. If it was being treated as just a throwaway soundtrack song i'd imagine it would have dropped at midnight.

Posted by: Dinno 27th October 2022, 11:36 PM

Lift Me Up better deliver and I hope it stairs every once the movies comes out. I would love fir her to get another no.1 hit

Posted by: Dot Fenty 27th October 2022, 11:44 PM

Another #1 would be amazing but I suppose we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves at this stage.

Posted by: Cowborn 28th October 2022, 04:06 AM

Sounds okay-ish, but not really an instant like. Might change my mind when radio starts playing it frequently.

Posted by: Cameron 28th October 2022, 04:55 AM

Not a fan. Ugh, I was so hyped as I’ve missed her. I feel like she’s not even trying to sing properly on it either.

Posted by: Bjork 28th October 2022, 05:27 AM

Wft, what a waste of a comeback
this is a total snoozefest, boring, tuneless, sounding dated, very very very disappointing

Posted by: -Jay- 28th October 2022, 05:44 AM

Hmm on first listen this didn't do it for me unfortunately.

Posted by: Cody Wesker 28th October 2022, 05:49 AM

Am I the only person who thinks this song will make more sense given the context of the movie? I could see it being used for T’challa’s funeral scene.

Posted by: vibe 28th October 2022, 06:02 AM

^ totally this

But i do understand everyone else’s comments.

Posted by: lewistgreen 28th October 2022, 06:06 AM

Straight to Radio 1's A List and Tune of the Weekend too

Posted by: Sean. 28th October 2022, 06:31 AM

This is the biggest disappointment for me. Yes it's a soundtrack song but it dilutes her comeback IF she makes a new album.

Posted by: tommie 28th October 2022, 06:51 AM

I guess we now know which is the superior Lift Me Up

Posted by: Gerald 28th October 2022, 07:20 AM

This is so beautiful. Her vocals are absolutely stunning on this track wub.gif.

Posted by: lewistgreen 28th October 2022, 07:22 AM

This is really good, especially for the film

Posted by: JackTheeStallion 28th October 2022, 07:33 AM

My expectations were actually at zero so I don't think it's AWFUL but yeah it's disappointing and nothing more than a fairly nice soundtrack song. I was kind of hoping for something more upbeat or solar to "All The Stars" sad.gif

Posted by: gooddelta 28th October 2022, 07:51 AM

It’s not going to go into the history books but I like it. I’ve really missed her voice and I’m a sucker for a winter ballad, this one will get a few plays from me.

If it was a lead single from a long awaited album I’d be disappointed but it’s a good soundtrack song.

Posted by: J00prstar 28th October 2022, 07:57 AM

This definitely feels like a Katy Perry - Rise moment.

Hopefully she has a single coming swiftly in the next few weeks so this doesn't take all the impetus of being Rihanna's 'big comeback'

Posted by: Jessie Where 28th October 2022, 08:02 AM

I'm used to being disappointed by her at this stage, for me it's a shock if she actually does anything good.

Posted by: Dankenstein 28th October 2022, 08:18 AM

Sure it's not one of her best but at this point it's great to just have anything from her and she sounds great on this,
as a ballad it certainly works better than the recent Lady Gaga soundtrack ballad anyhow.

Posted by: CJK 28th October 2022, 08:25 AM

Not really a fan of Rihanna but interested to hear a track from her after so long.

I guess people were hoping for a banger and got a tender ballad.
I thought it was nice. I couldn't help but compare it to Lady Gaga's Top Gun ballad and it was a better listen than that.

Posted by: JackTheeStallion 28th October 2022, 08:56 AM

With every play it's growing on me more and think it's really beautiful, not what I wanted from her but it's a very strong soundtrac song!

Posted by: jakewild 28th October 2022, 09:25 AM

poo

Posted by: Voodoo 28th October 2022, 09:47 AM

It's no Diamonds, is it? nocheer.gif drama.gif

I expected something EPIC, not dreary.

Posted by: Billy. 28th October 2022, 09:49 AM

It’s terrible.

At some points of this she is unlistenable for me. I usually like a Rihanna ballad but as a reintroduction to her sound this is just not good

Posted by: Mikal 28th October 2022, 09:59 AM

Nope. Just no.

Thankfully not quite that bad.

Posted by: 365 28th October 2022, 11:49 AM

I'm finding the "it's a soundtrack song" comebacks a bit exhausting, some soundtrack songs are amazing, in fact, a lot of the last Black Panther singles were really strong. Rihanna also has the ability to really excel when it comes to ballads, and this really goes nowhere.

Posted by: Tafty³³³ 28th October 2022, 12:15 PM

I think this soundtrack was always going to be quite a different release to the other one due to the situation surrounding Chadwick.

The only issue is, I think people were hung up on this being a proper Rihanna comeback for her album/era and weren't expecting a ballad. I got chills the moment I heard her voice on the track and the song itself is gorgeous and is going to be a real tear-jerker moment in the movie, I think. They've gone for what is essentially their interpretation of 'See You Again' (Fast & Furious 7) - a tribute song for Chadwick. I think it really works and can actually see it being a hit. 'All the Stars' "big"? Probably not. But it's definitely more accessible (I think Heart, Radio 2 and all the other adult contemporary stations will hammer it alongside Radio 1 & Capital etc..)

She has another song on the soundtrack apparently, I can see that being more to what we wanted/expected from her *releases another ballad lmao*

But yeah, I absolutely LOVE this. It's stunning and I just know its use in the BP movie is gonna destroy me.

Posted by: Jαsє 28th October 2022, 12:38 PM

Yeah, this is absolutely gorgeous and I suspect it'll be a real moment in the film. A bit flummoxed by some of the negative reactions tbh!

Yup. Getting a little emotional just thinking about it!

Posted by: Dot Fenty 28th October 2022, 12:56 PM

Meh... I really didn't want to be disappointed by this. It's not even the fact that it's a ballad and not something more upbeat, Rihanna has recorded some stunning ballads in her time. It's the fact that it seems to go nowhere and just slog along for 3 minutes, talk about background music. I guess it probably makes more sense in the context of the film and i'm hoping it will grow on me with more listens but I guess you can't help but want to feel impressed when you've waited so long for an artist to release new music. I wouldn't say it's completely terrible and I don't see the problem with her vocals, just bland which is not what she usually delivers.

It's getting strong streaming support so seems to be being launched as her 'comeback single' even if it is only for a soundtrack. Seems to be doing well on the very early Apple update but I guess you have to factor in curiosity streams for a new Rihanna track there. Fingers crossed the forever unconfirmed studio album is coming next year and overshadows this lol.

Posted by: dannjohn 28th October 2022, 02:05 PM

dreadful. should have been left to a special "omg its Rihanna" moment in the credits and thrown as a bonus track on the album.

Posted by: Tafty³³³ 28th October 2022, 02:30 PM

This is stunning. It's already one of my fave ballads by her tbh.

Posted by: 365 28th October 2022, 02:39 PM

I actually think her vocals sound a bit rough....

Either way I think it would have worked as an intro or interlude but doesn't feel like a complete song.

Posted by: dannjohn 28th October 2022, 03:21 PM

I was thinking of Higher as well

Posted by: gooddelta 28th October 2022, 03:38 PM

No doubt in the context of the film it will be very fitting, which is why I'm fine with it being a soundtrack single, but that I wouldn't want the same track to necessarily lead an album where it might be representative of the whole era.

I think it's a really lovely song though and I think Rihanna sounds gorgeous on it. I don't find it boring and disagree that it doesn't go anywhere, the music is incredibly beautiful and I've found myself listening to the instrumental a lot too, it has a stunning Baroque quality to it.

It's not what I expected or probably thought I wanted from a Rihanna comeback single, but actually it's really hitting the spot, as ballads always do for me at this time of year.

Posted by: Tafty³³³ 28th October 2022, 03:45 PM

Absolutely agreed! If it was to lead an album and "set the tone" for the album, I'd still love it, but it wouldn't have been what I wanted for her first album back.

I think they've really nailed it with what it's intention was. To soundtrack and celebrate the life of Chadwick for one of the biggest movie releases of the year.

If her proper lead away from the soundtrack is a ballad, then I'm gonna be pissed (whilst probably singing my heart out to it lmao x) but I don't care about that too much atm. Hope we see her perform this at the Oscars this year!

Posted by: JackTheeStallion 28th October 2022, 10:26 PM

She looks amazing!!

Posted by: Billy. 29th October 2022, 08:06 AM

I find it almost patronising listening to people (not necessarily here but certainly on twitter) think the issue with the song is that it’s a ballad. Rihanna has fantastic ballads like Unfaithful, Take A Bow etc but this is just not a good zongn. The instrumental itself is like some odd iPhone alarm, and it goes.. nowhere?

Posted by: HausSucksBlood 29th October 2022, 10:30 AM

Very underwhelmed by this. Dare I say, I find her vocals in that final half a minute unlistenable (the "hold me"s) sad.gif not sure I'll be returning to it in a hurry.

Posted by: k👠th 29th October 2022, 10:32 AM

It's really meh. I agree with The Guardian's review, the sound of money not artistry.

Posted by: -Jay- 29th October 2022, 11:16 AM

I hope this will click for me eventually. I'm taken aback that a comeback (of sorts) single from Rihanna doesn't make me want to press play over and over again! cry.gif

Posted by: dannjohn 29th October 2022, 11:17 AM

I am on the fence with the whole ballad release. Whilst shes not really traditionally known for her ballad releases, the ones she has put out there are distinguished with her.

Saying that, waiting all these years & coming back with this song is a dreadful decision.

Posted by: Tafty³³³ 29th October 2022, 02:33 PM

Still loving this. I think her vocal cracks are stunning and perfect for the song. I'm so excited to listen to it in the context of BP2 too. It's gonna destroy me I fear!

Posted by: Sour Candy 29th October 2022, 02:57 PM

This is... fine I guess? Cannot help but thinking how many better songs there is on ANTI alone though

Posted by: Dinno 29th October 2022, 03:33 PM

If this song smashes which it looks it will, then hopefully it will bring a bit of a relief for those of yall that dont't like it.

And also good press for her comeback with a song that sort of divides the fans with mixed reaction to unite and Bragg when/if it smashes the charts.

Posted by: sammy01 29th October 2022, 04:32 PM

It is amazing, the perfect antidote to the constant dance features by Becky Hill, Ella Henderson ect right now. That is why Taylor and Midnight are doing so well too.

Posted by: dancinqueen 29th October 2022, 06:13 PM

Lovely songs. Slowly going #1 everywhere (just hit #1 in the UK).

She’s gonna get her 15th hit song soon. When your faves?

Posted by: Jαsє 29th October 2022, 08:03 PM

Posted by: Dinno 29th October 2022, 08:19 PM

Amazing i hope the release of the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack next week can give it a big boost as well as the movie release.

Perhaps this has the potential to go no.1 on billboard hot 100.Would love it to be a chrst topper here in the UK as well.

Down to #7 on US Apple Music. Bit of a flop? She is very AM friendly artist, like SZA, and her single is #3

It'll probably go back up when the movie hits theatres and Halloween effect is over. SZA's song has a hip hop/R&B sound, this is a soundtrack ballad (from a movie that's not yet released...)

Posted by: Sour Candy 30th October 2022, 08:02 PM

#2 in the UK first look

Will obviously drop from there - probably #3 already tomorrow, but top ten is on lock.

Posted by: Dinno 30th October 2022, 11:37 PM

I wonder if we'll get any live performance of the song.

Posted by: RobBot 31st October 2022, 12:49 PM

This is not my sort of thing at all and it definitely isn’t what I’d have wanted from a comeback but… I just had a moment with this at work and I nearly cried? Maybe the two day hangover is getting to me but it’s clicked in the most beautiful way today and I am loving it?

It’s the “we need light, we need love” bits that are really stunning to me.

Posted by: JackTheeStallion 1st November 2022, 08:26 AM

I agree with Rob, this has really hit me recently. There is something about the simplicity and the strings in its production and the tenderness/fragility of Rihanna voice that make it feel so emotional/beautiful.

Posted by: 1402jord 4th November 2022, 05:50 PM

10,000th post here cheer.gif

This charted at #3 in the UK.

31 top ten singles to her name now!

I’m in the love camp for this wub.gif I’ve always loved her ballads in general though and this works in the context that it’s being used in and her vocal is heavenly. It’s been so nice to have her back!

Posted by: dannjohn 5th November 2022, 04:22 PM

Apparently its free falling a bit on streaming

The numbers are quite consistent in the UK and globally, but its showing signs of losing steam in the US. It's also experiencing "a huge rolling effect radio drop" in the US.

Posted by: Sour Candy 6th November 2022, 01:14 PM

That seems like album track type of drops percent-wise sad.gif

Also Stupid Love came to mind - that went from 7.5M to 4.1M in the US weekly, but seems that LMU is doing even worse than that.

Posted by: Dinno 10th November 2022, 01:23 AM

I've heard the Lift Me Up is used during a powerful emotional moment in the movie. Hopefully we can expect a huge boost for it with the movie out tommorow.

Posted by: Rough_edges 11th November 2022, 07:40 AM

After being underwhelmed at the start. This song is beautiful and grows with every listen. Truly lovely lyrics.

Posted by: Nick Jonas 11th November 2022, 07:39 PM

Down to #12 this week. Should hold up better next week.

Posted by: Dinno 13th November 2022, 04:25 PM

Back at no.1 on uk itunes. And it's going up now on Spotify no.18 and Applemusic no.13

Posted by: dannjohn 14th November 2022, 10:21 AM

i've realised... this reminds me of Xtina's track 'Lift Me Up'

Posted by: Rough_edges 16th November 2022, 08:38 AM

Come to conclusion this song is absolutely 10/10 amazing. Vocals, maturity. It's not what we wanted for a comeback. But this is a splendid song and I realised when my grandparents were playing it and said how good it was.

Posted by: jordanlee1402 19th November 2022, 05:00 PM

Climbs in the UK to #9 (chart run so far #3 > #12 > #9)

Ok… I actually kinda love this now.

Her voice sounds perfect on it and it’s genuinely a great song as well. I’ve always enjoyed her ballads though and hearing her voice on songs like this. I’ll definitely return to this a lot biggrin.gif
