There'll be 5 no.1s and Dido will have the biggest selling single of the year.

I think there will be more no1.jpg in 2017 but not by much, probably scrape the amount in 2016.
Think it will be focused on EDM/Dance but wouldn't be surprised to see pop or hip-hop in some no1.jpg
2-4 English no1.jpg

2-4 English
Which artist(s) will have the most #1's? hmmm... could be quite a few having debut hits that we haven't heard of yet, so I say nil on that one

^ done!

I've voted:

12-15 #1s
Pure pop (although I expect we'll get more pop songs with dance/urban influences really)
5-8 British #1s (probably the lower end)

For those undecided between whether pure pop or EDM will have more #1s:

the pop songs to make #1 in 2016 were 'Stitches', 'Pillowtalk', '7 Years', 'Say You Won't Let Go' and 'Shout Out To My Ex' which altogether spent 14 weeks at #1

the EDM songs to make #1 in 2016 were 'I Took A Pill In Ibiza', 'Cold Water', 'Closer' and 'Rockabye', which altogether spent 21 weeks at #1 (and that's not counting 'One Dance' which is very EDM-influenced).

could go either way really but safe to say EDM is incredibly popular now, quite amazing that EDM songs have spent longer at #1 in the year.

EDM should have been divided into two on the list, chilled, and lively. Lively EDM isn't likely to dominate the top 40 though, there was a period with Tears, Cry and Give Me Your Love when it looked like it might be coming back. But most chart EDM is chilled at the minute.

I wonder will we see more lively EDM during the second half as everyone hopefully gets bored of the chilled minimal stuff around at the moment?

I think by the end of 2017 there will have been a definite shift away from tropical house or dancehall influenced #1's. To what genre is difficult to say. Perhaps afrobeats or (my tip) early 00's influences.

Early 00s would mean trance, funky house, UK garage, lively Christina Millian type R&B, soft rock ballads like in the style of Travis or early Coldplay, or a return to more fun hip hop like Eminem, Shaggy or Fatman Scoop had in the early 00s.

All of them sound better to what we have today.

EDM (All Dance)
5-8 British

The new streaming ratio should help the #1 turnover somewhat.
