Easily The Pogues!
In all honesty, for once I would love to have a Christmas chart without any festive songs. |

I'm sick to death of both of them. I've gone through phases of loving both of them over the years though.
Why is there no option for The Saturdays' cover of Christmas Wrapping which is currently smashing at #573 on the iTunes chart? This post has been edited by MistleJoe.: 3rd December 2014, 10:25 PM |

I'm a little sick of Mariah's, after hearing it so much. The Pogues on the other hand I didn't hear "Fairytale of New York" until last year for the first time and it sounds quite good/prefer it to Mariah for now.

I said it in the iTunes thread already, but though I love both, Pogues is still my favourite festive song ever. If only because it's one of the few Christmas songs that doesn't resort to cheesy lyrics and actually is quite a lyrically inspired story with a great instrumental that still sounds extremely unique amongst every Christmas classic out there. It just isn't Christmas until I hear it. Plus it's one of those songs that I rarely hear a negative opinion on, I can get why Mariah's more popular on here ofc., but I'd be intrigued if a lot of people actually don't like it? Why?
I do like Mariah's song, but Slade/Wizzard/Wham do the cheesy Christmas thing a bit better for me. (I also put Pogues ahead yay ) This post has been edited by FrostytheWallaby: 3rd December 2014, 11:02 PM |

I love both pretty much equally so I find it very hard to choose. Can't see myself ever tiring of either of them. 'All I Want For Christmas' is the epitome of a perfectly crafted pop song and 'Fairytale Of New York' packs so much personality and frenzied storytelling...

"Fairytale Of New York" but mostly for Kirsty MacColl, rather than the Pogues

Oooh, 'Fairytale of New York', definitely. It was on this big old Christmas compilation my mum had (think it might've been called 'The Best Christmas Album in the World...Ever'?) and whenever I hear it it holds a lot of happy Christmas memories from childhood for us
I actually also bought the single of it when it was re-released at Christmas 2005. |

The greatest christmas song ever though is obviously I Believe in Father Christmas by Emerson, Lake and Palmer (even though they claim it isn't a Christmas song)
Of these, the Pogues. Definitely love listening to both though. This post has been edited by FleetSeb: 4th December 2014, 09:25 AM |
