BuzzJack Music Forum _ Little Mix _ Initial Response: 'Shout Out To My Ex'

Posted by: Jonjo 16th October 2016, 11:19 PM

What is your initial thought on the song?

Did it hit you instantly? Are you unsure of it on first few listens? Perhaps you're completely underwhelmed by it and really disappointed in it!

I went for the first option, obviously.

The chorus is absolutely KILLER. I actually think it's a far bigger and more impacting chorus than 'Black Magic' (probably due to the chanty nature of it). The girls all sound amazing on it. wub.gif

The top option!!

I actually really like it - it is going to sound amazing on the radio!

The chorus hit me on first listen but there was a lot for me to take in with regards to the performance and the whole EXCLUSIVE of it all. I've listened to it about 10 times since and I'm absolutely in love with it, unlike Black Magic where the production was thumping at you, this is more understated and lets the voices and lyrics do the talking and it works just as well.

IN LOVE <3333

I really like it but the chorus is far too similar to G.R.L.

Honey G is better (in my own opinion, please don't lynch me!)

Well my inital response was "I like it" but I feel that is too underwhelming of a response looking at the poll, so I went for "good". I wasn't wowed but I thought it was one I'd really get behind after a few more listens, very similar to what I thought to 'Black Magic'.

I was unsure on my first listen during the first verse but then the chorus hit and it was love ever since.

As true as it is, I'm already quite tired of everyone saying it sounds like GRL (shouldn't make much difference to the general public) but Ugly Heart was my favourite song of 2014 so this sounding similar is both not a bad thing by any stretch, but I admittedly don't like it as much.

Very very disappointing. I mean I know they were gonna stay in the pure pop lane after the success of GW, but I wanted some more R&B influences

Loved it instantly, very catchy

I LOOOOVED it right away! Black Magic was my Little Mix introduction and it took me a long time to like it and some performances. But SOTME is way more instant.
Not sure if as time goes by I'll still like it as much as I like Black Magic, but we'll see. The production is amazing

Took me about 3 listens to really love it, but now I really love it... I think it is because I wasn't expecting this almost country vibe it has.

First impression, I'm gonna go with "hope it grows". It's not that it's bad, it's just so basic and obviously rips off a particular song.

Posted by: Regina 17th October 2016, 04:40 PM

It's all a bit lackluster and lazy really. Not growing on me with repeated listens either.

Posted by: pippa 17th October 2016, 07:02 PM

On first listen i thought/think its great, not a complete pop banger but could be after a few more listens.

Posted by: Atonement 17th October 2016, 08:03 PM

I agree it's very lackluster but that's how I felt about Black Magic too. I don't ''get'' it and I'm surprised the masses are falling for it.

At first I was Great and now I'm first option I didn't listen to anything else except Starving for the last 48 hours

Posted by: rafik4u 19th October 2016, 03:21 PM

I quite liked it at first listen although it is true I thought automatically of Ugly Heart when watching the X Factor performance live.

After the second listen I started to love it but I still don't find it as catchy and addictive as Black Magic.
