What a tracklist if only it were Buttons instead of Beep tracks 1-9 would’ve been an incredible run!
I would’ve avoided Disc 3 back in the day but very much for it these days! |

I'm half way through Disc 1 and I don't think I'll be listening to anything else until I'm finished however many days it takes me! 2006 is an iconic year and this is a perfect mix of tracks

Thanks all for the lovely comments on this one!
I must admit I’ve just realised that Buttons is far more popular than Beep on Spotify! Although not sure how much of that is because it was just more popular in the US. Beep felt like it was everywhere here at the time. |

Brilliant job, I must give that a listen. 2006 was my first year listening to the charts and being properly into music and I think you've captured pretty much all the big hitters there (although you've missed my first ever number 1 I listened to...Westlife's CLASSIC cover of The Rose *__).
Disc 3 is amazing, not all of them have aged the best, but Rock was insanely good this year. |

First two tracks on CD 1 are two my least favourite songs from 2006.

2006 really was a good year wasn't it? Lots of solid music from many different genres... so, whilst I think the track listing is mostly extremely well crafted, I had to do a triple take at the final song on the dance disc 4 I assume it's there maybe because of it's link to the Chicane version? Or was it just really tough to find somewhere it would fit? I guess it is reasonably out of sync with most other chart hits that year.

I think it was basically there or nowhere for me, but I was keen to include it. It's such an unusual/unique song, and those are often at the end of the last disc on compilations I think!
I didn't really consider the link of the Chicane dance cover, but maybe that had a subconscious influence. I suppose by genre disc 3 would be the expected sequencing but it really didn't fit there at all, because most of the rock hits were British indie or more emo, whereas this is much more chilled so I felt wasn't too jarring next to The Source, which has been adopted by indie circles over the years anyway. Well it is my favourite song on the whole thing so I'm pleased you found room for it
(narrowly beating out the rather wonderful Pipettes) |

Yes Pull Shapes is one i decided to fight for. I know it wasn't much of a hit but it's so wonderful and refreshing, and has the bonus of stopping that disc being an all-male affair.

I'd have put it in exactly the same place. It's not unknown for dance compilations to end with some chilled tracks and bridging the more conventional dance music with Hot Chip, The Source and then Sigur Ros really works for me.

I had a look on other compilations Hoppipolla appeared on and it's kind of a similar line of thinking.
Top of the Pops (2005 when it was initially released) had it at the end too, after Deep Dish/LCD Soundsystem/Goldfrapp (so a similar kind of sequence): https://www.discogs.com/release/10817353-Va...f-The-Pops-2005 This one put it after Everything But The Girl: https://www.discogs.com/release/2741521-Var...-Indie-Classics This one before Moby and Röyksopp: https://www.discogs.com/release/12041555-Va...Classic-Anthems |

I actually agree there. One of my signature songs of 2006. I love it too, so much more than Rock The Party. I think this was one of those cases where a bigger hit at the time won out, see also Beep over Buttons. For some years it's so difficult to pick which song by an artist to use if they have had a very prolific year. |

Yes 'World, Hold On' is much better than 'Rock This Party' but not surprised the latter was the bigger hit really.

The 2006 track list is fantastic I turned 18 that year so a lot of good memories (and a few not so good ones) are sparked by these tracks.
It's interesting how Beep was quite a bit bigger than Buttons at the time (in the UK), yet 18 years on, Beep is stuck on Silver while Buttons has zoomed its way up to Platinum! But at the time... 31 The Pussycat Dolls - Beep - 157,000 57 The Pussycat Dolls - Buttons - 117,250 |

I always loved "Your Kisses Are Wasted On Me" more than "Pull Shapes".
