If you remove all charity singles from that list, I think that would be by far a more impressive list smile.gif

A German guy has worked out the biggest UK Singles, since November 1952 - based on Points in the Top 75.

He combines the Points of all 3 previous Band Aid Singles, & has it in 15th place.

It will move up to 11th place when he adds in the 4th version's No.1 Points on Sunday.

It is silly really. It is OK to say that it has been No.1 in 4 versions, but as the recordings &
most of the Artists on them, are not the same, their Points should not be combined. They
are not the same record. Technically the latest version is not even, (mostly), the same Song,
as the lyrics have been re-written. It is just the same tune. A very tenuous reason to add
all the versions together.

Especially tenuous considering the fact there's likely to be at least 2 if not 3 of those versions charting simultaneously this week... I typically consider all re-releases and remixes (when they charted separately) to be retrospectively part of the same chart run but even I wouldn't combine the Band Aids.

I notice that 'Three Lions' is missing from the list. I know the OCC now combine sales of both versions but to me they are different songs that just happen to have the same artists performing both tracks.

This on the other hand I do count as the same song as the original. I know the lyrics were changed but it was the same tune by the same artists so essentially just a 'remix'. (Plus as you said the OCC combine their sales now, though I believe that wasn't the case until fairly recently).

I think the OCC class it as a re-recording rather than a remix but it's essentially the same thing under the chart rules as both re-recordings and remixes can have sales combined with the original version so long as the remix or re-recording is similar to the original. I've never agreed with the approach of the OCC with regards to Three Lions but they make the rules...

Enya's song Boadicea was Number 1 twice (albeit sampled) on Mario Winans' 'I Don't Wanna Know', and The Fugess' 'Ready or Not' ... not sure if this qualifies as a song being number 1 twice though

The 1989 Band Aid should have been called Band Aid 5, or the concurrent ones Band Aid 3 and 4 laugh.gif
