QUOTE(Bjork @ Oct 10 2021, 07:20 AM) *
the love for Pitchfork in this forum drives me crazy biggrin.gif I get we're all nostalgic but come on, grow up biggrin.gif

Pitchfork's writing was tailored at 5 year olds, so ok, you were 5 years old in 2006 so you loved them, I get it,
but come on you're not 5 years anymore... sure you don't have the same music taste... or maybe you do biggrin.gif
no one over 18 liked reading Pitchfork album reviews back in the day basically cos its not writing for grown up people biggrin.gif

The album has been reissued as a 'Bonus Edition' with the slowthai version of Funeral added on at the end

I'm liking Famous Last Words a lot at the moment and this album seemed pleasant enough when I gave it a listen but not sure I'll end up listening to it much, it's nothing I haven't really heard from him before and I don't really feel I need another album from him

I haven't heard the whole album yet (still massively behind on new releases as per) but I have been really enjoying all the singles so far!

I really enjoy the style of James Blake in this album, and I managed to pick another song that could seem to do well in my chart! biggrin.gif

And let's throw the Famous Last Words video into the mix. Confused at what the actual single is now lol

Biggest standouts from the album tracks on first listen for me are 'Coming Back' (basically the 'Mile High' of this album), 'If I'm Insecure' (basically the 'Lullaby For My Insomniac' of this album) and 'Show Me' (this doesn't have an obvious parallel to the last album - I'd say 'Barefoot In The Park' but I don't know who Monica Martin is to be putting her in the same conversation as ROSALÍA - but it's very pretty nonetheless xx). 'I'm So Blessed You're Mine' and 'Lost Angel Nights' are also v good and 'Frozen' didn't completely blow me away as much as I wanted a James Blake/J.I.D collab to - I definitely did not expect it to be my least favourite of the collabs! - but it was still solid. The title track was decent. 'Foot Forward' and 'Funeral' honestly didn't really do that much for me - I haven't heard the slowthai remix of the latter yet though so I'm hoping that will add some more life to it.

I'll give more time for the album tracks to sit with me more but on first impressions this is very likely my least favourite of the 4 albums I have listened to from him (the jury remains out on 'The Colour In Anything' because I am a bad fan), I think it's the first one that lacks a real 11/10 career highlight song like 'The Wilhelm Scream', 'Retrograde' and 'Lullaby For My Insomniac'. But it's still a great collection of songs in its own right.

'If I'm Insecure' is indeed flawless!
