BuzzJack Music Forum _ 21st Century Throwback _ If you could choose one 21st Century classic of your own..

What classic from the 21st Century would you personally love to see have the same revived UK Chart impact as 'Murder On The Dancefloor'?

Understandably Sophie would have been the one for some too but if that's case there then your 2nd one would do x

As for myself I'd probably go for 'Because Of You' or even something that didn't go top 10 like 'The World Should Revolve Around Me' as that is a pop banger!

Posted by: One_For_Sorrow 27th January 2024, 02:20 AM

Hmm there's probably a few, but my first thought was Run For Cover by Sugababes.

NickTim - I Could Be The One
I really wanna see a big room house revival era where people call some of the songs "progressive house" again, instead of "festival" or "commercial" house. laugh.gif

'Shark In The Water' would be another good one as that only peaked at 34 or something and would love to see it get a new peak and gain some more attention like Sophie.

the fact that the first track I thought of was "Breathe On Me", meanwhile Britney stans are giving "Selfish" the Cruel Summer treatment laugh.gif

Posted by: TheSnake 27th January 2024, 09:19 PM

'Toca's Miracle' by Fragma.

or 'The Way' by Divine Inspiration or 'Pretty Green Eyes' by Ultrabeat.

or Tomcraft - Loneliness but I read on Buzzjack that it was already in some film recently and didn't get much of a chart boost sad.gif

The best song of the big room era I think is R3hab & NERVO & Ummet Ozcan - Revolution.

For the progressive house era that NickTim track is a good choice or Calvin Harris & Alesso ft. Hurts - Under Control

or David Guetta ft Sia - She Wolf which has become forgotten compared to Titanium but I prefer it. EDIT: has way more views on youtube than I expected.

'Breathe On Me' would be a good choice if it was a Britney song although it wasn't a single over here IIRC!

The first I thought of as noughties songs I could feasibly see going viral with exposure in the right place were Suddenly I See by KT Tunstall and Voodoo Child by Rogue Traders.

I know the latter already had a popular use in Doctor Who some time ago, but it would have been a lot more impactful in the streaming era.

Posted by: T Boy 27th January 2024, 10:15 PM

I’d love that for Suddenly I See. I’d love to see KT get a belated top 10 hit but because I want it so much, I can’t see it happening.

Yasmin - Finish Line or Noisettes - Never Forget You would also be good in terms of pop from that era.

More likely to be Karmin - Brokenhearted or Alyssa Reid - Alone Again though

Out Of Your Mind by VB!!! My second would be Unwritten, but that's already doin it!!

Posted by: Anita Hanjaab 27th January 2024, 11:25 PM

Omfg or Bretahe on Me!!!

Posted by: Popchartfreak 29th January 2024, 11:18 AM

Yasmin's a goodie, ditto Noisettes, dance tracks in the noughties so many I could pick. Toxic right up there, though, just pipping out most others, maybe Agnes Release Me too. Lesser known tracks Ive been using in BJSC so I'm keeping others secret in case I want to use them laugh.gif

Oh this I'd love to have second wind as well. heart.gif

'Never Forget You' is a good shout too especially since it peaked low top 20?

Sail by Awolnation already gets loads of streams but feels like it could seriously blow up one day.

I preferred X Ambassadors - Renegades, seems like a livelier ancestor to the recent folk revival too.

I’ve been trying to think of one, and call me Hadji, but, I think I’d like to see a song revival for something that never made the original Now series, so here are some contenders for me;

Evanescence – Bring Me To Life
Rui Da Silva feat. Cassandra – Touch Me
Usher feat. Lil Jon & Ludacris – Yeah
Arctic Monkeys – I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor
Kodaline – The One
Foster The People – Pumped Up Kicks
DJ Fresh – Gold Dust (Shy FX Re-Edit)
MGMT – Electric Feel
No Doubt – It’s My Life

That’s enough for now, but any one of these are worthy additions to any Now album.

haven't we suffered enough

Kodaline's best track imo (All I Want) wasn't even in the top 40, so I hope there's a miracle that it becomes a TikTok thing and gets a sudden reset.
Labrinth - Jealous also needs a revival in UK. It's been a huge Indonesian sleeper hit in 2018.

Also worth mentioning these:
Tinie Tempah ft. John Martin - Children of the Sun
Sub Focus - Rock It
Alexander Rybak - Fairytale
Temper Trap - Sweet Disposition
Axwell /\ Ingrosso - More Than You Know
Craig David ft. Bastille - I Know You

The Gogglebox theme tune ones (Perfect World and Brand New Day) weren't top 40 either.

Gosh so many!

t.A.T.u - All The Things She Said
Scissor Sisters - Take Your Mama (only peaked at #17 wtf)
Gwen Stefani - What You Waiting For?
Charlotte Church - Crazy Chick
Anastacia - Left Outside Alone

Any of those would be amazing heart.gif

Posted by: Roba. 5th February 2024, 07:50 PM

'Take Your Mama' only reaching 17 is seriously baffling!

Posted by: Cow P 6th February 2024, 10:31 AM

I somehow remember Shontelle - Impossible now.

This needs to get a revival, so that the James Arthur's winning cover gets vanished slowly.

Posted by: Herbs 6th February 2024, 01:22 PM

Would agree with Shark In The Water (VV Brown is local to me and is a lovely person IRL)

Wouldn’t be against songs from Siobhan Donaghy or Amy Studt re-emerging

Alexander Rybak - Fairytale
Craig David ft. Bastille - I Know You

Fairytale was very good but Every Way That I Can by Serteb Erener I would prefer in terms of Eurovision winners.

For Craig David's 2010s revival, 'When The Bassline Drops' I much prefer to I Know You, brings back good memories of early 2016, for Bastille Things We Lost In The Fire was my favourite of theirs.

Every way That I Can was a BOP
