BuzzJack Music Forum _ TV Shows _ 'The X-Files' is BACK

Posted by: J▼hnkm Mar 24 2015, 06:08 PM

For SIX episodes with both Gillian and David BACK too. No word on when it will air but I'd assume it'll be midseason 2016 at the earliest.

QUOTE
Thirteen years after the original series run, FOX has ordered the next mind-bending chapter of THE X-FILES, a thrilling, six-episode event series which will be helmed by creator/executive producer Chris Carter with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson re-inhabiting their roles as iconic FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. This marks the momentous return of the Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history.

The announcement was made today by Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group and Chris Carter, creator and executive producer of THE X-FILES. Production on THE X-FILES event series is set to begin in summer 2015. Further details remain under wraps and will be announced at a later date.

“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” said Carter. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”

“We had the privilege of working with Chris on all nine seasons of THE X-FILES – one of the most rewarding creative experiences of our careers – and we couldn’t be more excited to explore that incredible world with him again,” remarked Newman and Walden. “THE X-FILES was not only a seminal show for both the studio and the network, it was a worldwide phenomenon that shaped pop culture – yet remained a true gem for the legions of fans who embraced it from the beginning. Few shows on television have drawn such dedicated fans as THE X-FILES, and we’re ecstatic to give them the next thrilling chapter of Mulder and Scully they’ve been waiting for.”

THE X-FILES originally premiered in September 1993. Over the course of its nine-season run, the influential series went from breakout sci-fi favorite to massive global hit, and became one of the most successful television dramas of all time. The show, which earned 16 Emmy Awards, five Golden Globes and a Peabody Award, follows FBI special agents Scully (Anderson) and Mulder (Duchovny) as they investigate unexplained cases – “X-Files” – for which the only answers involve paranormal phenomena.

There was rumours this time last year that Fox was actually considering it. Must be getting fair desperate!

Posted by: Mart!n Mar 24 2015, 11:01 PM

That's great news, but I don't know where its heading, I think its best to give the series closure.

Was one of my fav shows ever growing up and have the 9 boxsets

Posted by: Chez Wombat Mar 28 2015, 12:40 AM

I've only seen like a few episodes of it (though I do aim to watch most of them eventually as it's right up my street), but looking forward to these nonetheless!

Really? ohmy.gif

I used to adore this show. I had all the boxsets back in the days when VHS was still a viable option. I'll be watching this for sure.

Looks unreal actually!!

New X Files trailer, it looks pretty good.

Posted by: PaulM1983 Jan 17 2016, 10:58 PM

Some of the reviews from the screening of the first new episode are pretty rotten, which is disappointing.

Posted by: Severin Jan 25 2016, 07:33 PM

Well I'm not sure what to make of the new X-Files debut.
Everybody in it seemed thoroughly disinterested in the idea, the script was terrible, the whole premise was utter nonsense (and slightly insulting) and it felt like the last 15 years had never happened.
But despite all that I really want to see the next episode now.

Posted by: dandy* Jan 25 2016, 07:58 PM

I didn't bother watching. The trailer looked rubbish and it seemed to be a continuation of the finding aliens theme which I didn't really fancy. I know that sounds odd but in the first few series it had interesting one off episodes with intriguing and very different stories... shout me if it goes back to those.

Apparently it does as of episode 2, which has had good reviews, and by all accounts episode 3 - Mulder & Scully Meet The Were-Monster - is an absolute corker.

Posted by: PaulM1983 Jan 26 2016, 12:34 AM

I agree that the writing was shockingly poor but I still kind of enjoyed it. Gillian is so watchable! David looked thoroughly bored though.

Posted by: JSG Jan 26 2016, 09:30 AM

I actually really enjoyed this first episode. I'm about to watch the second episode now cheer.gif

Posted by: PaulM1983 Jan 26 2016, 11:04 AM

Pulled a 5.1 in the ratings, which is higher than the season finale. It'll be interesting to see how episode 2 does.

Posted by: *Ben* Jan 26 2016, 11:26 AM

I was a big X Files fan wub.gif

I haven't watched the first new episode yet, but I'm very curious, so surely I won't miss it. I might wait though until all 6 episodes are aired and will watch everything at once laugh.gif

Posted by: Severin Jan 26 2016, 08:46 PM

The 2nd episode IS better, but not up to the shows heyday. Having said that it is the X-Files and episode 2 didn't feel worse then an average 90's episode.

Posted by: Qween Jan 27 2016, 12:10 AM

The premiere actually ended up with an enormous 6.1! Episode 2 bagged a still very impressive 3.2 as well. If it can hover around the mid 2's for the next few episodes I have no doubt Fox will bring it back again.

I'm probably going to watch all 6 back to back once it's all done, but I'm quite excited now given the generally positive response beyond the first episode.

Posted by: PaulM1983 Jan 27 2016, 09:17 AM

Episode 2 was much better. There were signs of that old chemistry that was missing from episode 1.

Posted by: popchartfreak Jan 27 2016, 10:14 AM

love X-Files. Even poor X-Files is better than many others best episodes.

OK, so how do so many of you get see something that isn't broadcast in the UK yet... I got annoyed last week I missed the first episode of Agents of SHIELD and couldnt find anywhere online to view it before I watched ep 2 and 3..
Don't want to miss this series debut too! (Hate watching episodes out of order, A.R that way... laugh.gif )

finding these tv shows online is like finding a black cat in an empty spotlessly white room.

Show Box is a great app for TV and movies. Findvideo.tv is a good website as well. Neither have the new X-Files episodes yet, but I'd imagine they'll be added soon.

Its been on RTE 2 for the past 2 weeks, thats were im watching it.

Posted by: Steve201 Feb 3 2016, 08:54 AM

Thoroughly enjoying it too it has to be said. Its just started up again like it ended with really good episodes and updated for 2016 with the constant Guardian/Edward Snowden bits added.

Posted by: PaulM1983 Feb 5 2016, 12:11 AM

Ok I'm confused. Is it just me or was episode 3 bordering on full on spoof? It was crazy stupid and there were so many moments that looked like the actors were on the verge of laughter.

Having said that, I did laugh. It was the first time that David looked remotely interested and Gillian had some fantastic comedy moments. It was just unexpected after a couple of pretty miserable and dreary episodes.

Posted by: Severin Feb 5 2016, 07:08 PM

X Files has always done the odd comic episode, usually by the same writer

Google watch series, the 2nd result on google, use it happy.gif

Depends how good your pop up and ad blocker is but you may have to get rid of a few pop ups, but new eps of US shows are streamed on there about an hour after they air in the US.

Yeah I just read that actually. I dipped in an out of the original series and never got round to watching absolutely every episode (it's a mammoth task!) so I clearly missed the previous comedy episodes. This one took me totally by surprise! laugh.gif

Posted by: Steve201 Feb 7 2016, 12:41 AM

I tend to not enjoy the comedy episodes because I'm such a fan of the mythology episodes and I felt they got in the way but most people find them the best episodes!

Posted by: Steve201 Feb 15 2016, 10:01 PM

Episode 2 of the new series is Def the best so far for me - the wee quips about Obama Care etc make it hilariously up to date!

Posted by: Severin Feb 16 2016, 07:58 PM

Episode 5 is terrible. You have been warned.

Posted by: 🌚🌚🌚 Feb 16 2016, 08:26 PM

I'm so scared to watch this. I love Gillian too much and I've only heard bad things

Posted by: Mart!n Feb 16 2016, 08:49 PM

I'm quite enjoying it, I can't say anything bad about it, as I'm an avid fan of the series. But judging by the next episode (#3), it looks a bit bad.

Are the last two episodes a double special or is the fifth episodes a stand alone?

I taped it on rte earlier so might watch it tomorrow.

Been enjoying it overall.

Episode 3 is a monster of the week purposely silly piss take episode. Not to my tastes but the fans love them ones!

5 is a standalone. It has it's moments but is a mess of ideas

6 is the 'sequel' to 1

Posted by: Steve201 Feb 17 2016, 10:29 AM

Looking forward to watching them!

Posted by: PaulM1983 Feb 17 2016, 06:22 PM

Episode 5 was poor and served no purpose. I had a major case of the cringe during the 'shrooms' scenes nono.gif

Posted by: Steve201 Feb 23 2016, 11:21 PM

Lol I actually really enjoyed the fifth episode - serious and yet a bit of comedy - love when the X-Files doesn't give a f***!! Also the two new partners were hilarious and taking the piss being a younger version of M&S!

Just watched the finale on RTE there and thought it was Brillant to, a little silly but it is sci-fi I guess - love that The Truth isn't Out there simply because the Truth is now happening in the series!!

I'd say it'll get a series 11 next year with the ending!!

Posted by: Mart!n Feb 24 2016, 08:49 PM

Episode 3, I really found it good and hilarious, Scully having a quick romp biggrin.gif it reminded me of a few quirky ones, Humbug, Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose, etc etc,

And the nod to the late Kim Manners in the cemetery

Posted by: Steve201 Feb 24 2016, 10:10 PM

Yeh Darin Morgan always makes the quirky ones!

Posted by: JSG Feb 26 2016, 07:01 AM

I watched the finale the other day and holy amazing balls. That was my favourite episode for the whole Season. I look forward to the next season if there is going to be one which I hope there is.

So i've been marathoning the entire 9 series set over the past few months and now i'm finally half way through the tenth season. What a show.

I was really dubious about the Willian storyline, but watching the 'Home Again' episode made me properly well up and understand it all. A brutal realisation for Scully. Only two more episodes to go for me, it's formed basically the entirety of my TV life this past year, i'm very emotional that it's coming to an end :'(

Season 11 please be in the works (with Mulder & Scully).

Channel 5 but no date yet.

Posted by: Mart!n Feb 5 2018, 10:00 PM

Wow... that was a very strong opener for a new season, it had everything from suspense and reveals at the end.

I think the series could carry on with the two young agents taking the lead with new stories, if that's where Chris Carter is going with it at the end of this series.

Posted by: Steve201 Feb 7 2018, 08:25 PM

Thought it was good as well, had to check the final episode of the last series to remind myself what happened then!

Posted by: Shia LeMuffQueef Feb 7 2018, 08:31 PM

Excellent episode!

Hope Gillian Anderson doesn't leave - they've JUST come back on! It's great to see new episodes of this.

Posted by: Steve201 Feb 12 2018, 10:41 PM

Great second episode too, liked the links to previous characters like deep threat and the fact the Lonegunmen were all born on days former presidents died 😂
