PICK TWO

??th. Robot of Sherwood (5 votes | 17.86%)

Robot of Sherwood provided some light relief after two fairly dark Series 8 opening episodes. I'm not really a big fan of the historical episodes but I really enjoyed Robot of Sherwood so it's sad to see it low down in the results! Clara wants to meet Robin Hood, despite him supposedly being a legend. When they land in Medieval times, they bump into someone who says that he is Robin but the Doctor refuses to believe him. It leads to a sword/spoon fight and an archery contest as they battle against each other. As in all Robin Hood stories, the bad guy is the Sheriff of Nottingham, in this case the Sheriff is a robot however.

??th. The Girl Who Died (5 votes | 17.86%)

SPOILERS

The Girl Who Died marked the first of four appearances for Maisie Williams' character. In this episode, she is just a normal human being called Ashildr who ends up starting a war with an alien fighting race. This leads to the Doctor having to train the pretty rubbish Vikings, allowing for the episode to be a funny historical. It leads up to them exercising a plan to stop the Mire but this ultimately leads to the death of Ashildr. The Doctor realises why he has been given his face, linking all the way back to 'The Fires of Pompeii' and so goes and 'saves' Ashildr, ultimately giving her immortality, causing the actions of The Woman Who Lived. I enjoy the episode but its in the right place in this poll, it's definitely inferior to Jamie Mathieson's Series 8 episodes.

18th. The Caretaker (9 votes | 32.14%)

The Caretaker took place in Coal Hill School, where Clara worked and the school featured in the first ever episode all the way back in 1963! The show mainly focuses on how Clara is trying to balance her life with the Doctor with her more normal life in the school and with her partner Danny Pink. They clash when the Doctor goes undercover in the school as a caretaker to try and find a murderous robot. It marks the first time the Doctor and Danny see each other, and the first time Danny finds out about Clara's secret life, with the Doctor being far than impressed with Clara's choice of boyfriend. The main focus is on the characters which means we get a random and generic monster and it means the episode doesn't really stand up in its own right. I find the Doctor always referring to Danny as P.E. very irritating too, it falls flat on its face for me and feels very forced. The 9th Doctor forgetting the name of Mickey worked better for me.

19th. Kill the Moon (6 votes | 19.35%)
20th. The Woman Who Lived (8 votes | 25.81%)
21st. Sleep No More (4 votes | 13.79%)
22nd. In the Forest of the Night (9 votes | 31.03%)

Oops I was gonna have a think about this and return - and I did neither :') Gone for The Girl Who Died quite easily in the tiebreaker but the main poll was tougher. Ended up voting for Under the Lake / Before the Flood and Listen.

Under the Lake/Before the Flood + Into the Dalek, not bad just both very unmemorable.

Oh and Robot of Sherwood for the tie breaker, one of my least favourite recent episodes.

That if anything made it worse - an episode with that concept should've been ground-breaking and a new classic, but it just wasn't as good or inspired as it should have been and I forgot it soon very soon afterwards.

I liked the episode but going inside a Dalek made it a bit of a pointless as you don't see the actual monster! Plus, it's a bit of a strange idea, imagine if it was going inside a human: 'oh no, here comes a blood vessel' laugh.gif
