Happy Friday everyone, hope you're all good! Time for me as always to bring you my personal top 20 this week, where we'll find out if George Ezra can hang on for a fourth week or if three of this week's new entries in the top 10 will prove too strong a challenge for him...

CHART COMMENTARY

Eleven records go down, two go up, there's four new entries and three don't budge at all. And yes, you've guessed it, the three records in question are last week's top 3. At the very summit, George Ezra now becomes the first artist since...well, himself actually (with 'Shotgun' in August) to spend as many as four weeks at number one. With just six weeks of my personal charts in 2018 left, it's highly possible that all three of his singles he's released will end up among my top 10 singles of the year - which incidentally, we'll be counting down on the End of Year forum on New Year's Eve.

And whilst we're on the subject of 'weeks left of the year', that also means five weeks from today until I reveal the twentieth Christmas number one on my personal chart since I began keeping records in 1999. George being the current number one means he is the smart favourite at the moment, but there are still some big new singles waiting in the wings between now and when I publish my Christmas chart on 21st December from, amongst others, Jess Glynne, Olly Murs and Little Mix. Very much a case therefore of 'watch this space'.

Back to the present though, and whilst Michael Bublé and Take That continue on below at #2 and #3, All Saints advance a couple of places to #4 with 'Testament In Motion', meaning the highest new hit lands at #5 this week. Dubbed the 'David Beckham of jazz' when the genre went through an early 00s revival, Jamie Cullum kickstarted his career with his multi platinum second album 'Twentysomething' fifteen years ago, along the way spinning off a couple of number one hits on my personal chart in 2004.

Although he's continued to record and release new material and present a jazz and blues show on Radio 2, his last appearance on my personal top 20 was December 2005, when 'Mindtrick' debuted at #14. It's a very pleasing sight therefore, to see him back inside the top 5 this week. 'Love Is In The Picture' just also happens to be the official single for BBC Children In Need, which he performed on the live telethon of last Friday. It also in turn, becomes the best performing single for the charity since Craig David's 'All We Needed', which hit the top two years to the week this week.

Also returning to the top 10 fifteen years after her last such hit is Dido. The biggest selling female artist of the 00s, 2003 was when she bagged her only number one to date with 'White Flag', following it up with a top 10 entry for 'Life For Rent', the title track from her multi million selling second album. Her last album, 2013's 'Girl Who Got Away' spun off top 20 hits for 'No Freedom' (#11) and 'End Of Night' (#19), and now 'Hurricanes', the first single from her fifth album 'Still On My Mind' (out next March), lands at #8.

Rick Astley scores his third top 10 hit of the year this week with 'She Makes Me'. This single thus continues the strange record of each single from his current album 'Beautiful Life' peaking one place lower than the last - 'Beautiful Life' made #8 in June, and 'Try' peaked at #9 in September.

Our final new entry falls just a place short of debuting inside the top 10, but it's still congratulations to Backstreet Boys. Despite a further four top 40 hits since then, the veteran US boyband favourites last scaled dizzier heights when 'Just Want You To Know' made #9 in October 2005. 'Chances' enters at #11 this week as the first taster for their forthcoming new album 'DNA'. Their biggest hit of course, remains as 'I Want It That Way' - which hit the top of my personal chart in May 1999.
