Agree! Very The Family Jewels, which makes me excited as that's still her best album for me. So I obviously like this, great lyrics once again, love the Britney shout-out.

Posted by: Klaus 14th April 2021, 04:58 PM

On first listen, it was VERY full on, especially after Man’s World and Love + Fear! laugh.gif

I’ve had a few more listens now and think I’ve adjusted to hearing Marina on speed and enjoying it. I need to find out the full lyrics as I feel I’ve not yet caught it all. I was thinking it felt quite The Family Jewels too!

Posted by: dandy* 14th April 2021, 09:14 PM

This is most welcome. Definitely agree it's very Family Jewels but that's no bad thing at all... a step in the right direction after the disappointing last album. Deliver us another Family Jewels or FROOT please Marina xx

Posted by: Juranamo 14th April 2021, 09:40 PM

THIS. IS. SO. GOOD.

Easily my favourite thing she's done since FROOT (song) 👏

It bops a bit but again I have an issue with her lyrics - I feel like she's reading random headlines she saw on Twitter and isn't saying anything new (which is fine, but I feel like she thinks she is).

I was finding it hard to put my finger on why I found the lyrics a bit off and I think you've kinda got it here. I also don't need to be preached to about capitalism from Marina the Millionaire.

The song itself does bop though, I like the vocal quirks in the chorus and post-chorus.

Posted by: StupidLove 15th April 2021, 02:33 PM

Listening now, very fast. Need to read the lyrics.

Posted by: blacksquare 15th April 2021, 03:43 PM

Well, it's a Marina song that exists.

Posted by: k👠th 15th April 2021, 05:05 PM

I don't see how Marina is preaching? If she is living in a capitalist system she be able have an opinion about it in her lyrics regardless if she is a millionaire now. She was raised by a single mother and worked for what she has now. It wasn't handed to her and we don't know the struggles she's faced in her past that may have had an influence here.

Sure it's nothing new and has been done better in other genres but it is refreshing in comparison to the basic themes of love and sex we're used to in pop music.

It's classic Marina: manic and on the nose. The lyrics are a bit all over the place but it works and fits with the energy of the music (for me at least).

Exactly, she worked hard and climbed her way up the social ladder. She earned her success, so good on her! Don't then turn around and make out like you're a victim of the system.

Exactly. Just because she is successful and earned money through her art, doesn't mean she cannot be critical of the capitalist systems. It's not like she earned her money through banking. And besides that, I very much doubt she is a millionaire. She has always had moderate mainstream success, but never sold millions or done massive tours and/or sponsor deals. Of course you can't like the song or lyrics but complaining about the content? When the world is literally on fire. I wish we had more popstars like her to be honest.

This was in response to someone on Twitter:

Posted by: Tombo 16th April 2021, 08:09 AM

This is really great, she’s definitely gone back to her old sound which let’s be honest, is her best

Posted by: Klaus 16th April 2021, 08:17 AM

Why are people who have worked hard from the bottom up to become successful sneared at more than those born into success? It’s tiring and counter-productive.

Posted by: Ansel 16th April 2021, 06:37 PM

I really like this! Yes the lyrics are a bit heavy-handed and a bit too close to all those 'nature is healing we are the virus <3' posts from early last year but I think the song is so fast paced and in-your-face that it manages to tie it all together.

Posted by: Last Dreamer 17th April 2021, 07:34 AM

"Purge the Poison" is the first Marina song, which have a small chances to be in my chart from last 9 years, her previous "Grazios Dainos" entry was "Primadonna" (# 1 in 2012).

I'm sure Marina can sleep easy at night knowing this news!

This is the most I have taken to a Marina song in a long, LONG time. Probably since 'Electra Heart' era.

I'm absolutely LOVING it wub.gif

Posted by: Warwick Avenue 3rd May 2021, 02:24 AM

I’ve really enjoyed all of Marina’s albums so far so I’m looking forward to this.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 3rd May 2021, 05:04 AM

I think she's more than within her rights to use her position to express how she feels about capitalism if that's genuinely how she feels about it.

I didn't really find it preachy as such, more like she's probably trying to say there are vulnerable and disadvantaged people being fucked up by the system.

Posted by: Warwick Avenue 3rd May 2021, 05:26 AM

I’ve just listened to Purge The Poison and it’s very The Family Jewels. I like it on first listen.

Pussy Riot! ohmy.gif can't wait for that

Not heard the Pussy Riot version just yet, I can't stop playing 'Hermit the Frog' lately. Somehow it passed me by the first time around.

That was my favourite song from The Family Jewels the first time around, absolutely loved it.

How accurate this is laugh.gif

It's a good song but she needs to chill a bit with the on-the-nose lyrics, they're even worse on this than 'Man's World' - not that I disagree with what she's saying but she could be just a little more subtle with it. (I have really liked both songs disregarding the lyrics, definitely here for a return to the Family Jewels sound as that is still my favourite era from her)

Posted by: Iz 💀 7th May 2021, 02:39 PM

I heard about good lyrics - this is very memorable, it's like we have old Marina back, her songs have always been pretty skin deep in meaning and that's what attracted me to her in the first place.

message is a little confused (I don't think she has the solutions she thinks she does) but her heart is in the right place

That's random - I guess it's helped by being track one on Electra Heart.

Either way, Primadonna and Baby (w/ Clean Bandit, Luis Fonsi) are Gold. Hollywood is Silver. So yeah, it's probably her fourth best-seller now.

Posted by: #TeamCracker 30th September 2021, 11:52 AM

Didn't Bubblegum Bitch go viral on TikTok or something? That should explain it.

How to be a Heartbreaker is now silver!
