ADELE

1. Chasing Pavements (2008)
2. Water Under The Bridge (2015)
3. Hello (2015)
4. Set Fire To The Rain (2011)
5. Rolling In The Deep (2011)

6. Skyfall (2012)
7. Cold Shoulder (2008)
8. Rumour Has It (2011)

9. Someone Like You (2011)
10. Send My Love (To Your New Lover) (2016)
11. Make You Feel My Love (2010)
12. When We Were Young (2015)

(all based on chart performance in my charts, red = one million +, blue = 500,000+, purple = 250,000+.

Only acts with 12 songs released in the 21st century which made my personal charts qualify. Just the lists, no commentary from me it takes too long!

That would make a brilliant Greatest Hits CD and would sell by the shedload at Christmas time.

If she doesn't get that pending album thats been postponed out by xmas I could see a stop-gap hits album covering it biggrin.gif

Posted by: Bjork 14th July 2020, 07:55 AM

Don't think her label would go for a Greatest Hits,
then people would stop buying 19,21,25 and that's the last thing the label wants
same reason why nobody is releasing GH anymore (Coldplay, Rihanna, Beyonce,...)

AKON

1. THE SWEET ESCAPE Gwen Stefani featuring Akon 2007

5. LONELY (featuring Bobby Vinton) 2005
6. SOUL SURVIVOR Young Jeezy featuring Akon 2006
7. RIGHT NOW NA NA NA 2009
8. BEAUTIFUL (featuring Kardinall Offishall & Colby O'Donis) 2009
9. SEXY CHICK David Guetta featuring Akon 2009
10. DANGEROUS Kardinall Offishall featuring Akon 2008
11. LOCKED UP 2005
12. PLAY HARD David Guetta featuring Ne-yo & Akon 2013

who knew Akon had so many.....!?

ALI CAMPBELL & UB40

1. BLUE EYES CRYING IN THE RAIN (2013)
2. LEAN ON ME (2020)
3. SWING LOW featuring United Colours Of Sound (2003)
4. LIGHT MY FIRE (2000)
5. SINCE I MET YOU LADY featuring Lady Saw (2001)
6. I’M MISSING YOU Ali Campbell (2015)
7. SILHOUETTE Ali Campbell (2014)
8. KISS AND SAY GOODBYE (2005)
9. SHE LOVES ME NOW (2018)
10. A PLACE IN THE SUN (2018)
11. MIDNIGHT RIDER (2013)
12. OUT FROM UNDER Ali Campbell (2009)

Various combinations of personnel during the 21st century after 20 years with an unchanged lineup in the 20th century and 20 years of non-stop lite-reggae and social-commentary reggae hits. Mostly cover versions in the last 20 years and obviously still appealing to me over the whole last 20 years even if not in the actual charts.

ALICIA KEYS

1. EMPIRE STATE OF MIND/ PART 2 Jay-Z & Alicia Keys (2010)
2. FALLIN' (2001)

3. ANOTHER WAY TO DIE Jack White & Alicia Keys (2008)
4. YOU DON'T KNOW MY NAME (2003)

5. MY BOO/ CONFESSIONS PART II Usher featuring Alicia Keys (2005)
6. IT'S ON AGAIN featuring Kendrick Lamarr (2014)
7. TRY SLEEPING WITH A BROKEN HEART (2010)
8. GANGSTA LOVIN Eve featuring Alicia Keys (2002)
9. BRAND NEW ME (2013)
10. IF I AIN'T GOT YOU (2004)
11. GIRL ON FIRE (2012)
12. IN COMMON Alicia Keys (2016)

Empire State Of Mind part 2 was included in the same run as Empire State Of Mind with Jay-Z cos it's not as good and at no stage would it have charted higher, and giving chart points to the same song twice in one week would have been silly. Empire State Of Mind is just short of a million "sales" in my chart.

ALISON KRAUSS & UNION STATION

1. DOWN IN THE RIVER TO PRAY (2001)
2. LUCKY ONE (2004)

3. GENTLE ON MY MIND (2017)
4. YOU WILL BE MY AIN TRUE LOVE (2004)
5. GONE GONE GONE (DONE MOVED ON) Robert Plant & Alison Krauss (2007)
6. LOSING YOU (2017)
7. STICK WITH ME BABY Robert Plant & Alison Krauss (2008)
8. RESTLESS (2005)
9. PLEASE READ THE LETTER Robert Plant & Alison Krauss (2008)
10. STAY (2000)
11. RICH WOMAN Robert Plant & Alison Krauss (2008)
12. PAPER AIRPLANE (2011)

90's Bluegrass country star Alison Krauss revived the genre almost singlehandedly, but has stayed consistent enough to qualify this century too.

Posted by: Popchartfreak 20th July 2020, 04:44 PM

ALL SAINTS

1. PURE SHORES (2000)
2. ROCKSTEADY (2006)
3. DON'T WORRY Appleton (2003)

4. BLACK COFFEE (2000)
5. ALL HOOKED UP (2001)
6. ONE STRIKE (2016)
7. LOVE LASTS FOREVER (2018)
8. NEVER FELT LIKE THIS BEFORE Shaznay Lewis (2004)

9. FANTASY Appleton (2002)
10. TWENTY FOUR SEVEN Artful Dodger featuring Melanie Blatt (2001)
11. EVERYTHING EVENTUALLY Appleton (2003)
12. AFTER ALL (2018)

90's Girl Band also big enough in the 21st century to garner a dozen, albeit including solo stuff - all four members have charted outside the band. The top 2 are just short of a million "sales". The 8 tracks to hit 250,000+ "sales" equals Adele's total, but she leads on million sellers.

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 21st July 2020, 08:28 PM

Interesting to see Water Under The Bridge and Send My Love being so far apart for you in the Adele rankings, they feel quite similar to me! Enjoy them both anyway, two of my favourite Adele songs.

I know what you mean - maybe that's why the latter didn't grab me quite as much, though to be honest Adele sets quite a high bar, the whole top 12 did well laugh.gif

I'm going to include chart positions and weeks on chart and "sales" too as it's becoming obvious that 12 hits for Adele isn't quite the same worth as 12 hits for Akon, and Amy Winehouse's short but tempestuous and massive career only just managed 12 chart entries...

speaking of...

Posted by: Popchartfreak 24th July 2020, 06:24 PM

AMY WINEHOUSE

1. (6 15) OUR DAY WILL COME (458550) 2011
2. (6 24) BACK TO BLACK (453250) 2007
3. (6 14) TEARS DRY ON THEIR OWN (335150) 2007
4. (9 15) REHAB (302450) 2006

5. (10 10) VALERIE Mark Ronson featuring Amy Winehouse (151400) 2007
6. (11 9) LOVE IS A LOSING GAME (150500) 2007
7. (17 9) HELP YOURSELF Amy Winehouse (149300) 2004
8. (20 7) YOU KNOW I'M NO GOOD Amy Winehouse featuring Ghostface (107100) 2007
9. (63 5) B BOY BABY Mutya Buena featuring Amy Winehouse (37200) 2008
10. (59 3) WILL YOU STILL LOVE ME TOMORROW (26600) 2012
11. (64 3) CHERRY WINE Nas featuring Amy Winehouse (20600) 2012
12. (70 1) BODY AND SOUL Tony Bennett featuring Amy Winehouse (6000) 2011

So, the late, great Amy didnt have any monsters in my chart but had 3 all peak at 6, while only just making the list thanks to some minor collaborations with a pretty varied choice of acts, and one monster with her producer...

I'll be brutally honest, the only ones I strongly recall are Sexy Chick and The Sweet Escape. I expect I'll be reminded of the Jacko and Snoop tracks if I play them, but the rest I draw a blank on....

That can't be a good sign - or else more likely it's because as I get older I struggle to recall music from the 21st century while the 20th century is fresher the further back I go to the 70's. That's getting older in a nutshell - your teen years stay embedded in your memory and anything older than 6 years ago tends to fade laugh.gif

ANASTACIA

1. (1 19) SICK AND TIRED (1012200) 2004
2. (3 22) LEFT OUTSIDE ALONE (713200) 2004
3. (2 16) I'M OUTTA LOVE (627550) 2000

4. (19 20) ONE DAY IN YOUR LIFE (277700) 2002
5. (14 13) WELCOME TO MY TRUTH (166400) 2005
6. (25 7) STUPID LITTLE THINGS (109850) 2014
7. (24 7) ARMY OF ME (93800) 2016
8. (28 7) WHY'D YOU LIE TO ME (90600) 2002
9. (27 5) STARING AT THE SUN (74900) 2014
10. (35 5) PAID MY DUES (72900) 2001
11. (40 5) BOOM (61500) 2002
12. (43 5) NOT THAT KIND (54900) 2001

Noughties British women & L icon diva Anastacia topped my chart once, yet oddly had little success in her native USA.

I know the feeling. When doing my birthday number ones list, the ones I had to listen to as I didn't know / had forgotten them were either in the first few years of my life or the 21st century.

ARCTIC MONKEYS/THE LAST SHADOW PUPPETS

1. (1 27) I BET YOU LOOK GOOD ON THE DANCEFLOOR (1218150) 2006 Arctic Monkeys
2. (2 17) THE AGE OF THE UNDERSTATEMENT (733900) 2008 The Last Shadow Puppets
3. (5 14) WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN (327650) 2006 Arctic Monkeys
4. (19 9) FLUORESCENT ADOLESCENT (136300) 2007 Arctic Monkeys
5. (34 5) ONE FOR THE ROAD (70600) 2014 Arctic Monkeys
6. (40 8) BRIANSTORM (70150) 2007 Arctic Monkeys
7. (40 4) DO I WANNA KNOW (54000) 2013 Arctic Monkeys
8. (39 4) MARDY BUM (48050) 2006 Arctic Monkeys
9. (60 7) LEAVE BEFORE THE LIGHTS COME ON (48000) 2006 Arctic Monkeys
10. (36 4) MY PROPELLOR (47600) 2010 Arctic Monkeys
11. (64 7) THE VIEW FROM THE AFTERNOON (45700) 2006 Arctic Monkeys
12. (40 4) SUCK IT AND SEE (43500) 2011 Arctic Monkeys

There's more than enough Arctic Monkeys tracks to compile a list, but not enough Last Shadow Puppets, and I love that track at 2 more than I love all but one Arctic Monkeys tracks.

I thought so too! - oddly enough there's about 5 tracks just outside the top 12 which I could have sworn had done better than they actually did - I remember them better than half the Arctic Monkeys hits. I think my personal charts have gotten more competitive since I started plodding through new releases each week.... biggrin.gif

Lots of collabs on this list, and some big chart hits missing....

Posted by: Jade 9th August 2020, 02:01 PM

'Love Me Harder' was my favourite Ariana song for years so I greatly approve of that topping your list for her wub.gif 'Faith' quite an underrated inclusion there!

AVICII

1. (1 17 FADES AWAY) Avicii featuring Mishcatt (1148100) 2020

12. (37 5) FOR A BETTER DAY Avicii featuring Alex Ebert (61000) 2015

The late Avicii turns in a Hits collection among the "A" acts of the A to Z, second only to Adele for the 21st century, and they are weighted pretty much across his 9-year career

OK onto the B's, so not enough love for Basement Jaxx, Backstreet Boys and some others needing the 20th century to qualify, this one also had some 90's action but just squeezed in anyway...

BEVERLEY KNIGHT

1. (1 27) KEEP THIS FIRE BURNING (856450) 2005
2. (14 8) IN HER SHOES (176000) 2009

Nice to see Peace of Mind so high up your Avicii list, a brilliant song! Waiting For Love and The Nights are other highlights from that one. Some great Arctic Monkeys songs on there as well, I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor will always be their standout hit but Brianstorm is another solid track.

BEYONCE/ DESTINY'S CHILD

1. (1 23) TELEPHONE Lady Gaga & Beyonce (1310000) 2010
2. (1 23) CRAZY IN LOVE Beyonce featuring Jay-Z (1275950) 2003

3. (7 29) BEAUTIFUL LIAR Beyonce & Shakira (576400) 2007
4. (7 17) INDEPENDENT WOMEN PART 1 Destiny's Child (485700) 2000
5. (4 17) HYMN FOR THE WEEKEND Coldplay featuring Beyonce (482650) 2016
6. (5 12) SURVIVOR Destiny's Child (413400) 2001
7. (9 17) GIRL Destiny's Child (350300) 2005
8. (7 14) LOSE MY BREATH Destiny's Child (330800) 2004
9. (14 17) BOOTYLICIOUS Destiny's Child (258350) 2001

10. (8 14) PINK + WHITE Frank Ocean featuring Beyonce (244800) 2016
11. (12 10) XO Beyonce (220550) 2014
12. (17 10) DRUNK IN LOVE Beyonce & Jay-Z (163000) 2014

Including Destiny's Child Jay-Z's missus had had 36 chart entries for me, but Destiny's Child just fell short of the 12 qualifying, so they are lumped in with B's. The net result is no room for Halo, Single Ladies and others, but what a great dozen this is! Just a bit embarrassing that she only manages one with a solo credit.... biggrin.gif

BLACK EYED PEAS

1 (1 39) PUMP IT Black Eyed Peas (1229500) 2006
2 (1 35) ROCK THAT BODY Black Eyed Peas (1176900) 2010

3 (5 13) JUST CAN'T GET ENOUGH Black Eyed Peas (408250) 2011
4 (3 18) BOOM BOOM POW Black Eyed Peas (404350) 2009
5 (10 22) WHERE IS THE LOVE Black Eyed Peas/ Justin Timberlake (363700) 2003
6 (5 15) DON'T PHUNK WITH MY HEART Black Eyed Peas (340950) 2005
7 (8 15) I GOTTA FEELING Black Eyed Peas (302300) 2009
8 (10 15) MEET ME HALFWAY Black Eyed Peas (289700) 2010
9 (8 10) DON'T LIE Black Eyed Peas (258800) 2005

10 (22 11) LET'S GET IT STARTED Black Eyed Peas (135900) 2004
11 (26 7) MY HUMPS Black Eyed Peas (108200) 2005
12 (42 7) SHUT UP Black Eyed Peas (65250) 2003

So...one of Suedey's all-time faves ( laugh.gif ) have 2 massive hits for me, another 7 big ones, lots of long-runners and few minor hits (just 14 in total have charted) though will.i.am will be back with his dozen at the other end of the listings.

BLONDIE & DEBBIE HARRY

1 (1 20) GOOD BOYS Blondie (835950) 2003
2 (6 15) RAPTURE RIDERS Blondie vs The Doors (311800) 2005
3 (6 10) A ROSE BY ANY NAME Blondie featuring Beth Ditto (299750) 2013

4 (17 11) TOO MUCH Blondie (165300) 2017
5 (14 8) FUN Blondie (144000) 2017
6 (16 8) D-DAY Blondie (126700) 2011
7 (28 10) NEW YORK, NEW YORK Moby featuring Debbie Harry (122200) 2006
8 (21 7) LONG TIME Blondie (109200) 2017
9 (30 6) I WANT TO DRAG YOU AROUND Blondie (87100) 2014
10 (46 5) DOOM OR DESTINY Blondie featuring Joan Jett (56000) 2018
11 (37 4) HEART OF GLASS Blondie Vs Edison (53100) 2006
12 (36 3) WHAT I HEARD Blondie (46550) 2011

Hands up who didn't know 70's New Wave/Punk band Blondie was still going? Thought so. Active throughout at least part of every of the last 5 decades actually, and still fab. Two of these are remixes or mash-ups, but they are newly recreated this century, so they count.

All twelve of those are level-pegging in my Spotify plays list with zero plays each biggrin.gif

Hands up who didn't know 70's New Wave/Punk band Blondie was still going? Thought so. Active throughout at least part of every of the last 5 decades actually, and still fab. Two of these are remixes or mash-ups, but they are newly recreated this century, so they count.

Now, that's a lot better biggrin.gif

It's one of their Christmas songs and wonderfully daft.

I saw The Killers when they were on their first tour of big venues in the UK. Thankfully, I didn't actually see them in the UK. I saw them at the much smaller Bataclan in Paris. Brandon is a brilliant frontman (and very easy on the eye).

Have they finished their xmas album yet? I know that was the eventual aim. Lucky you seeing them in Paris! Brandon is one of the great frontmen - caught him on youtube in lockdown doing the first single off the new album, just him and a guitar - that's usually an indication of how strong a song it is and how good they are as performers. Out the ballpark! smile.gif

Clean Bandit and Cliff Richard both on 11 currently, so get missed for the mo, and we go on to the new Best Dozen of the century, overhauling The Killers - nothing less what would be a Gold Disc & 7 Platinums. Will it be beaten by any other act? I can think of one but it'll be ages to find out...

Calvin has so many good songs, Under Control is an absolute tune and good to see Acceptable In The 80s in your chart as well, the first song I heard from him and it still remains my favourite. The Scientist still remains my favourite Coldplay song so shame to see that not here.

Hi Pete smile.gif

Yes Calvin is a Dance great of the last 12 years no question. I need to revisit The Scientist, so many people love it! It peaked at 20 for me, which means I rate it - only tracks I rate highly make my top 20, usually - but just not quite in the "classic/great" category, oops! laugh.gif

In which the same track tops 2 consecutive charts, OK I've given credit where none existed, but it samples Let's Dance heavily and provides the backbone of the song. Any 20th century oldies in the chart have been remixed or issued for the first time this century

I could have added Stan's "sales" to Thank You's, and I normally would, but Stan is a better track than Thank You and that would flatter Thank You too much. I'd prefer to do the reverse and benefit Stan, but that would be a stretch - even though in retrospect Stan deserves to be 3 on the list.

Thanks Pete, I was pretty much convinced Dua was on her way to big stuff from her early tracks, she just seemed to stand out from the other jostling new female pop star wannabe's out at that time, and still think she's great. smile.gif

I don't think any of my favourite Ed songs are in there (although they're not the 'soapy ballads' you mention either!) I think Sing is probably my favourite of the ones on your lsit so good pick for #1.

Hi Pete, you might say I have an "I expect to find this new track boring" approach to Ed Sheeran records, he's one of the big acts (like Drake) I assume won't appeal to me so he has to convince me otherwise, and it's surprising he grabbed as many as 12 laugh.gif Drake fell one short, but 11 is still pretty good considering my inbuilt bias. ohmy.gif smile.gif That also means I paid out good cash to buy the tracks - Any new track that I chart has been one I consider good enough to buy and to want to hear again. If I'm not fussed I don't chart them and I don't buy them. A lot of Ed's ballads fall into the "I'm not fussed" category, but I've probably missed a few of the ones you like if I haven't come across them.... smile.gif

My top 2 Ellie songs have snuck into your list as #11 and #12 laugh.gif glad to see them there at all, both deserved better in the chart wub.gif

I definitely need to hear more songs from Elbow, I'm surprised at how few I recognise in that list! Maginficent and Golden Slumbers are both great tracks though, as is of course One Day Like This.

good to hear Jade! Sadly i've forgotten what they sound like - as you get older things dont stick like they did when you're 14 cry.gif I can literally remember records I heard once 48 years ago and didn't hear again for decades. Doing an experiment now and playing them. No, don't recall Figure 8 at best vaguely familiar. Good though, much better than her recent stuff! Deserved higher than 32 smile.gif Guns & Horses: again seems familiar, vaguely laugh.gif Prefer Figure 8, so my rating is still the same order laugh.gif

If they did a Greatest Hits with those 12 tracks on it (plus some others) I'd be interested in reacquainting myself with the back catalgue smile.gif

3 (4 15) ALL IN THE NAME Bright Light Bright Light featuring Elton John (362350) 2016
4 (4 11) FACE TO FACE Gary Barlow and Elton John (328400) 2014
5 (7 11) GHETTO GOSPEL 2Pac/ Elton John (260100) 2005
6 (10 13) I WANT LOVE Elton John (258050) 2001

7 (10 9) IN PRIVATE Pet Shop Boys/ Elton John (220750) 2012

9 (23 9) SYMMETRY OF TWO HEARTS Bright Light Bright Light featuring Elton John (136600) 2016
10 (19 7) HOME AGAIN Elton John (101550) 2013
11 (20 6) BELIEVE/SONG FOR GUY Pet Shop Boys featuring Elton John (100750) 2017
12 (32 8) SORRY SEEMS TO BE THE HARDEST WORD Blue & Elton John (92700) 2003

Worth mentioning Elton had a massive remixed hit with Are You Ready For Love - but the airplay version was the original, which first charted in the late 70's, and he also co-wrote and played piano on Scissor Sisters monster I Don't Feel Like Dancin', but neither qualify on a technicality laugh.gif Basically, though, 21st century Elton hasn't had a significant new solo track since 2013, and a big one since 2001. The Pnau tracks are reinventions using segments of early Elton tracks, and the Pet Shop Boys collabs were 90's recordings that didn't get released until the 21st Century.

I'm not the biggest fan of Elton but I really do like his Songs From the West Coast album, it's the strongest of his I've ever heard. I'm particularly fond of Original Sin and Mansfield from it wub.gif

I've never heard that album, though it is rated critically, and neither of those tracks I know - but I rushed to read the lyrics of Mansfield, hoping it was about the trials and tribulations of life and poverty in a devastated former coal-mining community. And it turns out to be a romantic twist on meeting David Furnish (I presume with the Star Of David reference) themed around Mansfield Park the book and the Mansfield apartments in LA. laugh.gif

Oddly, though, I've read his excellent autobiography (a must-read) and he met him at his own house in the UK, so maybe it's all about Bernie Taupin's love of that time, or fiction..... ohmy.gif

EMPIRE OF THE SUN/PNAU/THE SLEEPY JACKSON

1 (2 29) GOOD DANCERS Sleepy Jackson (1138350) 2003
2 (1 20) SAD Elton John vs Pnau (910800) 2012
3 (1 21) CHRYSALIS Empire Of The Sun (846900) 2019

10 (7 12) CHANGES Faul and Wad Ad versus Pnau (265000) 2014
11 (8 12) ALIVE Empire Of The Sun (252250) 2013

12 (16 10) THIS DAY Sleepy Jackson (160400) 2004

Both members of Empire Of The Sun have had previous or side projects in The Sleepy Jackson and PNAU, none of whom have quite managed 12 - but the quality of the combined back catalogue of everything they've been involved is very high, so as far as I'm concerned it's all the same, they're fab whatever the name on the label.

11 (34 4) LAY DOWN FOR FREE Lindsey Buckingham & Christine McVie (59450) 2018
12 (56 6) FEEL ABOUT YOU Lindsey Buckingham & Christine McVie (52800) 2017

Who knew that the 70's & 80's soap opera that is Fleetwood Mac would continue in the 21st century just as volatile as before?! Just to sum up, Christine and Lindsey had left in the 90's, then Lindsey came back on board as producer/songwriter and for touring meaning 2 of the primary 3 songwriters of the post-Peter Green era were back in the fold. Christine finally came out of retirement and began work with Lindsey on material for the band which ended up having to be a duo as Stevie wasn't happy, which set of the old lovers Stevie/Lindsey rivalry again, with Lindsey sacked and then having a subsequent heart attack as he sued for dismissal. So, I've seen the Mac in a line-up without Lindsey, a line-up without Christine and finally all back together again. I wouldn't put money on them ever getting back together for recording purposes....

Thanks Jade, glad you like those tracks dance.gif Yes, Dreams re-charting was lovely to see, especially as it peaked in the 20's at the time in the UK in 1977 (top 3 for me tho), probably cos Rumours was a huge album rather than a series of singles - I know when I got to Uni the album was rather a biggie, and I got to hear it in full a lot as my room-mate had it. So I bought it too.

PS oops at me using the plural on Flo, senior moment laugh.gif

I never really heard the st trinians track properly, I think, and I preferred the original See The Day but the others were good. Mind you, I like all of their original tracks, so I might be biased.... laugh.gif

Proof that you can be towards the end of your career and life, have alzheimers, and still be as great as you were in your youth....and if you can spot Foo Fighters and Green Day songs in there, it's because he wanted an album of covers done Glen style, and then an album about living with dementia, and then songs about dying from dementia.

12 (23 7) SLOW HANDS Niail Horan (95100) 2017

OK. One Direction. They had 9 chart hits, none of them made my top 40. The solo stuff has far outdone everything they did together, and even missing Louis Tomlinson had a solo track that did better than any One Direction track. None of them has yet had 12 solo tracks, so here they are lumped together, and the winner is Harry Styles, then Liam Payne, then Zayn, then Niall Horan.

Interesting choice of top hit for Goldfrapp, not often you see that make a #1 whilst so many others before it didn't.

Yes you're right biggrin.gif I think Ooh la la & Strict Machine are their most-well-known tracks, but my love for Goldfrapp was still climbing at that time and it peaked when I started buying the albums a few years later. Strict Machine should be higher in particular, if only because Suzi Quatro did a Glam Rock cover which I also charted pretty highly - so I could almost add those "sales" to it and push it up the list laugh.gif

Just scrolling through these and 'Talk' is an underrated Coldplay song for me so good to see that high up here. 'Enjoy The Silence' is great too. My mate plays that song to me quite often along with 'Sun Always Shines On Me'. Two good oldies. 'Wisemen' is a good pick for top Blunt song. I'd put it in my top 5 actually along with 'Goodbye My Lover', '1973'. 'Bonfire Heart' and 'Carry You Home'. The latter being my favorite from him, was a #1 for me in 2008!

Thanks Roba smile.gif Yes I agree Talk is a goodie for Coldplay, and Enjoy The Silence was a great chart-topper for me in 1990. a-ha's Sun Always Shines is a masterpiece, and james Blunt's Wiseman is a goodie amongst many, he's quite under-rated thanks to that big ballad he had laugh.gif

While not being a fan of Jess in recent memory DBSHOY as basic as it is is still one of my favourites by her and 'Baby I Love You' is a underrated J Lo song too imo.

Thanks Rob smile.gif I think the top 2 Jess' are the most memorable long-term hits along with rather be and these days, her best shot at being popular in 20 or 30 years time when nostalgia sets in. I'd forgotten that J Lo song but she's got loads of hits that'll keep her profile high. I watch local Canaries TV live on Youtube (cos I holiday there so often) and J-Lo and Ben Affleck have been seen in Las Palmas the capitol of Gran Canaria on holiday. Doh! If only I'd bumped into them I could have discussed Ain't It funny being my fave track and Batman ben's best role, like the geeky fanboy I have always been laugh.gif

I think I changed my mind about Keane as they went on - the early classic album and singles were a bit too MOR for me to love them, but Ive come to appreciate them more in later years after they got quirkier and showed they had legs. The public weren't quite so keen on the later stuff as me, Disconnected is pure bliss but it just passed the charts by as they became an albums act and the hits dried up, sadly. smile.gif

Disconnected spoke to me at the time and I love the melody, well worth checking out. SOWK hit my number one years after it's debut, I think it was featured in an episode of Glee which made me re-evaluate it, and Lily Allen's cover helped make me go back to the original and love it's soaring passion smile.gif

Not one I know I'm afraid, I never bought the first album and wasn't aware of anything they did until Somewhere Only We Know was a hit. In those days if Radio 1 didnt play it I didn't get to hear it and I've never bought a Hits package to check out the early stuff. I'm sure I'll get round to it when I can finish digging into my huge pile of unplayed CD's - I've just played Killers Direct Hits which I bought years ago, and Sam's Town is next, never played that one either ohmy.gif laugh.gif

Oh that's an Kelis song I don't remember too much. It's a great choice for top track though. 'Caught Up There', a good song for mimicking as an 8 year old at the time laugh.gif not that I hate anyone lol. 'Acapella' wub.gif her only #1 for me. That was fab and '4th of July' an extremely underrated followup. 'Lil Star' I heard in a shop recently funnily enough. You kinda forget how many great songs Kelis actually did and that's with 'Trick Me'. & 'Millshake' not even among them but those are brill too.

Hi Rob, yes I think that top one gets associated with Enrique really, though the only ones I hear much on radio these days is Milkshake, which a shame as I never really got the appeal of that one, all rhythm and little melody. Though the boys in the yeard obviously love it! laugh.gif Caught Out There was nice and bitter, maybe why radio 2 never plays it - they only tend to do "happy" and "upbeat" oldies or classic love songs and the like teresa.gif

Acapella was a goodie, and Lil Star was also one I was partial too, havent heard it in years and years, in a shop or anywhere else! biggrin.gif

I heard it in Tesco's a few weeks I think - 'Lil Star' but it's not like you really hear Kelis played anywhere in general, well for me anyway.

'Work' freemasons remix <3 I don't think I've heard that top Kelly track but then again I dipped out of listening to the chart for 2 and a half years so makes sense I guess lol. I do remember 'Stole' though which was alright. All that rising of 'Dilemma' back in the day, there was literally no escaping it!

I do remember 'Stole' though which was alright. All that rising of 'Dilemma' back in the day, there was literally no escaping it!

Actually I often hear stuff in Tesco too, they do seem to have interesting playlists! Not just the usual big hits you tend to get. I wonder if they have a music fan doing the picking, but catering for all age ranges!

Freemasons involvement in anything is always good. Shh dont tell anyone - but I don't rceall that top track either. I obviously liked it - and then didnt hear it again for 19 years (and counting), but it didn't stick in the memory the way Nelly & Kelly does or When Love Takes Over.... biggrin.gif

Tesco's playlists are usually very interesting I find. There's some Roxy Music playing even and they did some classics back in the day too!

Ooh I'm a big 70's Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry fan, cant go wrong there cheer.gif

Didn't realise she released so much stuff in the last decade. Fascinating her main hits aren't anywhere here.

I will get round to doing the 20th century eventually - still got 1972, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1992, 1995, 1996, 1997 to finish getting onto spreadsheets laugh.gif She had 2 chart-toppers though in 1988 and 1989 (years which I have finished and on Buzzjack!) biggrin.gif

12 (3 19) STOP ME FROM FALLING Kylie Minogue featuring Gente De Zona (747950) 2018

So. Kylie has 2 number ones just miss the list, dozens of top 10's miss the list. That's just the 21st century. She has some others from the 80's and 90's. As you can see, I often think she picks the wrong tracks as singles. The top one was written by Nerina Pallot and was never a single!

Posted by: Roba. 7th July 2022, 01:11 PM

So many classic Kylie songs there. 'Love At First Sight', 'All The Lovers, 'Get Outta My Way', & "I Believe In You'! Like CGYOOMH as well and it is a classic but I do find its vastly overrated compared to some of her other hits and expecially songs that didn't reach #1 too!

So many greats not even made the top 12 too, Rob, like Kids - a fab Robbie duet that I love! I do love CGYOOMY too, but prefer the ones higher up - and maybe even album tracks I didnt chart at the time from Light Years. Robbie co-wrote some camp classics too for it! smile.gif

yes agree with those picks, I'd add Earthquake was banging, and Noah Cyrus is always interesting (but never gets hits) but I'd say a lot of his stuff falls into "pleasant" as a category - Being on Simon Cowell's label might not have helped his credibility though...

I confess to not really being a fan of Lana 'darts to the door' but 'Summertime Sadness' is great. Lots of love for loads of those Gaga tracks. 'Alejandro' an underrated one I find despite still being a top 10 hit. Was a #1 for me back in 2010!

I went off Lana a bit after her spectacular debut album - appeals to me cos I love Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazlewood and she was in that druggy, laid-back, poetic tradition - though I've come back on board more recently. So it's ironic that my fave tune is also the dance remix biggrin.gif Gaga was so good back in the early days and Alejandro was an instant fave of mine even before it was released as a single, so good chart-topper choice there Rob! I think it's telling that nothing since 2014 has gained the same level of love from me while she's been busy chasing Oscars.... teresa.gif

Yeah I get that. She does have that Nancy Sinatra etc type to her so I can see why she appeals to people but just not my cup of tea I'm afraid bar one or two songs.

Very true however I'd say her last album and singles were all fab and I was a fan of 'The Cure' as well. 'Shallow' decent but you can give or take with it really.

She's showed remarkable consistency in a fickle pop biz, even if she doesn't get hit singles these days. Video games is a classic no doubt. I've tended to just cherry pick since the first album, so I def miss out on some album tracks, but I bought a few on your list smile.gif She's had 30 chart tracks for me, rankings based on chart performance in brackets...so 4 I don't really know, 3 I rated but didn't make the top 12 and 5 we both rate highly, pretty good I think biggrin.gif

His last 2 albums have been pretty good for singles, partly from co-writers and producers I think, which will annoy Noel who has a low view of co-writing. Thinks everyone should be able to knock off a Wonderwall or two at the drop of a hat... laugh.gif

The better Lily Allen songs at the top and then the fairly overrated (Smile and Somewhere Only We Know) further down thumbup.gif

Also 'Numb' is a classic as is a lot of Linkin Park's output. They did go a bit naff by 2010 though. I was fortunate to see them live in 2014 too. They did rush through a lot of classics in a mash up though which was a shame as they'd have sounded better in full length. Oh well. It's a bit poignant now considering what happened to Chester but also a female friend of my sisters who came with us to that gig and she did the same thing as him although I'm not sure if it was exactly the same method used. Ah well a cherished memory nonetheless.

I haven't really delved much into London Grammar but 'Strong' is always a gem.

Sorry for the VERY late reply Rob, it's been a manic 3 months and I haven't really had a moment to start catching up on stuff like this. One more week to go and I might get a few lazy days to myself if I'm lucky! I hope...!

I'd liked to have seen Linkin Park and that's very sad to hear about your sister's friend. Been through dealing that myself more than once and it's just awful.

Glad your memories of the gig are still fond ones - I've got many of those myself from pop stars of long ago these days!

Some fab Madonna tracks there. I finally listened to Confessions the album the other day after buying it in ASDA at the start of last month. Great album. 'Jump ' & 'Sorry' were always my fave two from it but 'Hung Up' is undeniable too.'Ghosttown', 'Don't Tell Me', 'Music' all great as well!

Poor Happy Ending ended at 15th ohmy.gif biggrin.gif , but it did go top 20 for me, just had 8 weeks on the chart so ended up lower. It's weird how pop stars are flavour of the month and then suddenly not, I've never really ever got used to the fickleness of success - if there's a drop in quality I can see why, but often it's just people moving on to the next thing, or lack of radio play.

I approve of the Confessions of a Dancefloor heavy Madge list, what an album! My second favourite only behind Ray Of Light.

I think 'Your Love Alone Is Not Enough' was the first Manics song I ever came across (was only 9 or 10 when that came out) but it was an instantly positive first impression, nice to see that topping your list for them! Since then I've discovered far more and 'A Design For Life' would be my favourite of their singles. I need to work through their albums!

'We Belong Together' was such a grower for me, now a Mariah essential. The build-up to *those* final notes is breath-taking.

That Mark Ronson list... wow, the quality wub.gif 'Nothing Breaks Like A Heart' is my favourite by him too and also challenges for my top Miley song. 'The Bike Song' was such a quirky chart hit but sadly feels pretty forgotten now.

Hi Jade, oop sorry for the late reply, forgot to check on the thread! Confessions was top-notch Madge for me too, Ray Of Light and Like A Prayer being my other faves. True Blue is also fun.

The Manics can be a bit hit and miss for me, but when they hit the spot they go for fabulous. Saw them in concert back in the day (as I did Madonna, 4 times). My absolute top track from Manics is If You Tolerate This, but Design For Life is up there with Motorcycle Emptiness and a couple of other 90's tracks for me.

Thanks for the comments! smile.gif

I have to admit I was surprised to find out I rated so much of her early stuff, I've not heard any of those 00's hits since so they don't spring to mind as much as her first number one songs even though I liked them much more. Just heard Dolly Parton's cover of Wrecking Ball and it's pretty decent actually, with added Miley, so the "chart sales" from that will be added to Miley's original as she's on it and it'll start climbing the list shortly.

Goodo, I love Say It Right! I was slightly peeved it didn't get an early full single release and the label teased it for seemingly ages. Havent heard All Good Things for yonks, but it was a goodie!
