British singer/songwriter Griff is this year's recipient of the Brit Award for Rising Star! She performed her recent UK Top 40 hit Black Hole at the Brit Awards tonight, and her forthcoming mixtape One Foot in Front of the Other is out in June. You may also know her for singing Love Is A Compass.
Stan with me!
It was a great performance! Not sure what to expect from the album commercially yet, but hopefully it can go top 10
Somehow only just discovering Black Hole via that performance... Seriously good!
me too, very confident performance i thought and it sold the song.
The performance was brilliant! I'm so happy she's received a great boost from it and it seems to be a universally praised performance too
A great song. Excited for more.
I'm looking forward to hearing the mixtape! CD and Cassette are only £4.99 each, vinyl is £14.99, and they include a signed artcard https://eurostore.warnermusic.com/uk/artists/griff.html
Performance was absolutely brilliant!
It seems likely that Black Hole will become a UK Top 20 hit on Friday! Currently midweek #19.
Apparently One Foot in Front of the Other (the song) is coming out on Friday too.
^ Premiere is today at 18:15 BST!
Really liking this on first listen!
This is so cute! Really liking it in first listen. Is it being pushed as a single?
for now it's a Grat, the current single is Black Hole, still climbing everywhere and been pushed like crazy on Spotify
It's another great song, I'm getting really excited about this mixtape release
Her melodies are so striking, really intrigued by this mixtape and what else she pulls out of the bag, One Foot In Front Of The Other is lovely
One Foot added to R1's playlist, so guess they're gonna push this too
Black Hole's push came a while ago really, it's just taken a long time (and a BRITs performance) to take off. Don't blame them for moving on with a new single even while Black Hole is flying high.
Pushed back a week to the 18th
Finally got around to listening to One Foot in Front of the Other - another excellent song I hope it catches on.
Thrilled that Black Hole went Top 20 (#18 peak)!
Another song has been released today, in advance of the EP tomorrow:
Really enjoying this on first listen, some solid songwriting there and just a really nice listen
Loving this, particularly the title track and Shade of Yellow. Walk is giving me 1989 Taylor!
I feel like this is a strong enough body of work for it to have more than mix-tape status, but it does make me excited for what the future holds for Griff. *.*
It currently has a score of 95 on Metacritic!
*Orders the vinyl*
Her voice is gorgeous! I'd like to hear her on a dance track by Gorgon City or somebody like that.
Really liking this, all the tracks are solid and it's a great listen overall
Loving 'Earl Grey Tea' particularly from the songs we haven't heard, it's stunning.
Midweek #4 Go Griff!
A strong collection of songs but I understand now why they’ve gone for this mixtape, rather than a full album. It feels very much a continuation of the Mirror Talk EP, almost to the point where it feels a couple of songs are sampling Mirror Talk tracks.
There’s nothing as strong as Black Hole but One Foot in Front of the Other, Remembering My Dreams and Earl Grey Tea are my other standout faves.
I’ve really loved her output so far though, such an exciting popstar that’s emerging. She’s so talented, such strong hooks and her involvement with the production side of things in particular is great.
I’m glad y’all are finally paying attention to her after my thread last year passed without comment : http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=237048
Say It Again still remains such a strong fave but Sound of Your Voice, Forgive Myself and 1,000,000 X Better are all incredible too.
really liking Shade of Yellow, will have to check her other EP, didn't know about it
In at #4 in the UK So pleased for her! It sold 5,436 copies. A week earlier (which was the original release date) and that would have only got her to #9 Very well timed!
So happy she got #4! I really hope she doesn't end up being one of those artists who only has one hit and struggles otherwise. She is so talented and this EP is one of my favourites this year so far, so glad I decided to impulsively buy tickets to see her on tour later this year before Black Hole was even a big hit.
shade of yellow is great! i’d love that to take off for her.
Interestingly the version of Walk on her YouTube channel is different in terms of production and her vocal take!
Also Black Hole went Silver
It doesn't help for her streaming sales that the project only has 7 songs, even if all of them were getting decent streams she'd still be at a disadvantage just because of it falling short of the permitted number of songs that can contribute to an album's streaming numbers. (As it were she's falling into the issue of having 2 songs with much, much higher streaming numbers than everything else anyway - 'Black Hole' and 'One Foot In Front Of The Other' both top 100 on Apple but none of her other songs are even top 1,500 for example - so that of course translates to fairly negligible overall numbers since the top two tracks have their numbers neutered).
Just head Shade of Yellow for the first time and it doesn't come close to Black Hole tbh.
Still a great song in its own right though I think it's really warm sounding, it's gorgeous.
Chart run: 4-67-142-191...
Even though that doesn't look great, I'm actually surprised it's managed to stay in the chart for 4 weeks. The Top 200 is stuffed with heavily streamed Greatest Hits/old studio albums, so it's kind of hard for artists such as Griff without major streaming success to hang around in this chart for too long (particularly because physical sales are so frontloaded).
'One Night' will be released on 26th August!

Another bop!
Loving 'One Night' already!
wow thats incredible, so instant
This remix!!
Just seen that she’s put this live performance of Walk out on Spotify this week;
^ 'Walk' is doing quite well for Griff recently, but I'm not sure why! It doesn't seem like it's a thing on TikTok (unless I've overlooked it), but it's #1 on her Spotify page with 18,482,119 plays. That makes it the second most played song on the 'One Foot in Front of the Other' mixtape (after 'Black Hole').
I'm curious about what the next step is for her career. It's been 13 months since 'Head on Fire', while the aforementioned mixtape came out in June 2021. She did a lot of shows last year (including support slots, festivals), so she was definitely busy, but it just seems like a long time without any new music!
Walk seems to be the one Spotify playlist the most!
