    Andrew's Review
Now That's What I Call Music! 46 also known as Now 46 was the summer release from 2000 and contained 43 tracks from the era April-July 2000. 6 UK #1 singles were included in the official tracklisting. This was a series first from acts like Sonique, Samantha Mumba, Aaliyah, *NSync, Coldplay, Richard Ashcroft and Darude.

Another 3 UK #1 singles were missing from this tracklist. They were Oxide & Neutrino – Bound 4 Da Reload (Casualty), Eminem – The Real Slim Shady and Breathless from The Corrs. Other noteworthy omissions this time around also would have included UK garage act Sweet Female Attitude whose single Flowers was a #2 hit. Destiny's Child were missing too with Say My Name. MTV presenter Richard Blackwood had a #3 hit with Mama Who Da Man. Limp Bizkitt's debut single Take A Look Around was also not included. Other hits included Oasis – Who Feels Love?, Toni Braxton – He Wasn't Man Enough, Armand Van Heldan – Koochy, Travis – Coming Around along with others.

Now 46 was packed with one hit wonders, most of which are on Disc 2, and these were Mary Mary, Bloodhound Gang, Stephen Gately, Black Legend, Spiller, York, Marc Et Claude, Different Gear, Southside Spinners, Angelic, Rank 1, The B15 Project, Lonyo, MJ Cole, Tru Faith & Dub Comspiracy, Fe-m@il and Scooch.

Artwork Rating: 6/10 Good
Bright golden yellow logo floating on a blue lagoon of water. Nice choice of colour for the summer, much the same choice as the previous summer of 1999. There seems to be a lack of originality or theme here, not much to remember from a cover. Certainly improvements could have been made.

Disc 1 Favourite: Sonique – It Feels Go Good
Dance classic from the year which was an instant hit in many countries. This song made Sonique a household name who would have further hits within the following months.

Disc 2 Favourite: Darude – Sandstorm
An incredible driving anthem, just pure trance at its very best. One of the best dance anthems of 2000.

Disc 3 Tracklist:
(A concept of what a third disc might look like if other hits from the era were used)

1. Eminem – The Real Slim Shady 4:44 {1}
2. Oxide & Neutrino – Bound 4 Da Reload (Casualty) 3:39 {}
3. Artful Dodger & Robbie Craig feat. Craig David – Woman Trouble 3:43 {6}
4. True Steppers feat. Dane Bowers – Buggin' 3:32 {6}
5. Sweet Female Attitude – Flowers 3:50 {2}
6. Shanks & Bigfoot – Sing-A-Long 3:30 {12}
7. Destinys Child – Say My Name 4:00 {3}
8. Richard Blackwood – Mama Who Da Man 3:39 {3}
9. Girl Thing – Last One Standing 3:07 {8}
10. Lolly – Per Sempre Amore (Forever In Love) 2:49 {11}
11. Steps – Summer Of Love 3:53 {5}
12. Shaft – Mambo Italiano 2:53 {12}
13. Paul Van Dyk feat. Saint Etienne – Tell Me Why (The Riddle) 3:48 {7}
14. Sash! – Just Around The Hill 3:46 {8}
15. Mandy Moore – Candy 3:41 {6}
16. *NSync – I'll Never Stop 3:08 {13}
17. The Corrs – Breathless 3:26 {1}
18. Armand Van Heldan – Koochy 3:27 {4}
19. Sia – Taken For Granted 3:34 {10}
20. P!nk – There You Go 3:24 {6}
21. Toni Braxton – He Wasn't Man Enough 4:22 {5}
22. Santana feat. Rob Thomas – Smooth 3:51 {3}
----------
Total time: 1:19:46

Overall Rating: 5/10 Poor
Some very good hits within this volume, but again it's a slight step down from the previous volume. Disc 2 is littered with dance songs most people will have forgotten about by now, and could have been used to showcase some other genres. Personal disappointments include the omissions of Eminem, Artful Dodger feat. Robbie Craig & Craig David, Richard Blackwood and Sash! too.

Andrew's Best 5 (as of June 2017)
1. Darude – Sandstorm
2. Sonique – It Feels So Good
3. Alice Deejay – Will I Ever
4. Mary Mary – Shackles (Praise You)
5. Coldplay – Yellow

Andrew's Worst 5 (as of June 2017)
1. Bloodhound Gang – The Bad Touch
2. Tru Faith & Dub Conspiracy – Freak Like Me
3. Angelic – It's My Turn
4. Different Gear vs The Police – When The World Is Running Down (You Can't Go Wrong)
5. Fe-m@il – Flee Fly Flo

Coldplay and Spiller for me, but disc 1 is great (Sonique, S Club, Moby, Kylie were close!)

I went for Reach and Groovejet - I actually don't LOVE any particular song on Disc 1, Reach is pretty good and my favourite just about in front of 2 Faced, Gotta Tell You and Shackles.

Absolutely adore Disc 2 though - Will I Ever, Airwave, It's My Turn, Sandstorm and On The Beach are all brilliant dance tracks and I also love I Want Your Love, Deeper Shade of Blue and Summer Of Love - and special shout out to Scooch with their best ever track <3 Glad this was the one that made it onto a Now album.

Hmm. As the 2000 volumes of this have gone so far, this is a weaker outing than I remember it being. Disc 2 is definitely filler heavy. Still, it's not without its charms this edition. My top 5 from each:

Disc 1
1. S Club 7 (How Sonique ever kept this off number one, with hindsight, I will never know. It Feels So Good was good at the time, but hasn't aged well. Whereas this along with Don't Stop Movin' is their signature tune and had top of the charts all over it! And also reminds me of L.A 7 that had been on air on CBBC in the weeks prior to it coming out)
2. Britney Spears (pop classic. Enough said)
3. Billie Piper (such a sorely underrated chart topper in a year stuffed full of one week wonders. Loved her "Walk of Life" album as well)
4. Louise (hands down best use of a talky bit in a pop song. "Hi girls - HIIII LOUISE!!!")
5. *NSYNC (again as with Britney, pop classic. Max Martin is a god)

Disc 2
1. Spiller (probably the most timeless track across the two discs. Even now it fills a floor)
2. Steps (one of their best singles along with One for Sorrow and It's The Way You Make Me Feel. Love its wistfulness)
3. MJ Cole (one of my favourite UK garage tracks this. Almost similar to the Moloko one on Now 45 for the use of live instruments)
4. Atomic Kitten (contrary to all popular opinion, they were at their most enjoyable with Kerry in the lineup)
5. B-15 Project (aka the track I mistakenly thought was the follow up to Flowers by Sweet Female Attitude. Well, the vocalist sounded similar!)

Oh yes! Sorry about that, I did spot that smile.gif Those are exactly what I would have gone for for disc 3 so bravo there. Just one thing though - would we call Stephen Gately a one hit wonder? He did have another two top 20 hits after 'New Beginning' even if they weren't on the same scale as that debut - not to mention his numerous appearances with Boyzone in the series.

I was mainly referring to the fact this was his only appearance in the series as a solo artist.

Well f*ck I'm totally rating this. MOST OF THESE SONGS WERE MY CHILDHOOD.

Best of Disc 1:
1.) Oops! I Did It Again
2.) *NSync - Bye Bye Bye
3.) Aaliyah - Try a Again
4.) Billie Piper - Day & Night
5.) Samantha Mumba - Gotta Tell You

Best Of Disc 2:
1.) what was that song? Darude - Sandstorm
2.) Spiller - Groovejet
3.) The Power Of Love

A bit of a clear divide between dance and pop, and OH MY LORD the pop disc looks heavenly. I feel like I'm 5/6 and listening to Christina Aguilera after getting picked up from kindergarten, the memories heart.gif heart.gif

I can't believe I remember "The Bad Touch", I always thought it was called Discovery Channel tongue.gif

Oh wow there are so many great songs scattered throughout this one! I remember picking up this Now! album in a charity shop and listened to it loads so I am very familiar with it. My disc 1 favourites were between 'It Feels So Good', 'Porcelain' and 'Yellow', but in the end I went for 'Porcelain'. Such a beautiful and delicate piece of music that has so much impact on me every time. Then for disc 2 I do love me a bit of 'Girls Like This' and 'Freak Like Me' but I went for 'Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)' of course wub.gif A shame Spiller's career fizzled out so quickly (the follow up single was pretty awful though...) but it's good that it provided a platform for Sophie to then get a fair amount of follow-up hits. I would definitely consider it to be a modern classic. Lots of good dance music on this one! Hell yeah at garage being a thing.

1 Samantha Mumba - Gotta Tell You
2 Shania Twain - Don't Be Stupid

Disc 2 faves
1 Vengaboys - Uncle John From Jamaica

3 Sia - Taken For Granted
4 Girl Thing - Last One Standing
