So the 2018 World Cup Final concludes with France taking on Croatia. A repeat of their 1998 World Cup semi-final.

The game is live simultaneously on BBC and ITV. Please use this thread for speculation, pre and post match chat on the final.

How do you see this going?

Just want to say a massive thanks to everyone who has contributed to the World Cup from regular posters, once every 2 years and new posters. It has been enjoyable.

Really enjoyable, great to see there has been such a buzz. I think splitting the topics for each game really helps... it might make the forum a bit more cluttered but I feel it's more open to all members as they can talk about different games.

Anyway, I am expecting a France victory, but I would love for Croatia to win!

I really hope we can get a very entertaining game here to round off this tournament, the only really dramatic World Cup final I can remember is the 2006 final that went to penalties and had Zidane's famous red card. I think France will win but it would be symbolic of how surprising this World Cup has been if Croatia end up winning.

It's going to be weird to watch a World Cup final during the daytime. I think a evening/night match would make the occasion feel more special, especially when the trophy is lifted and the fireworks around the stadium go off.

Seems like it's France's to lose based on individual quality and strength in depth, but Croatia shouldn't be underestimated.

Hoping for a decent game anyway, I got my Sunday afternoon shift at worked covered so I could watch it laugh.gif

It will be France's to lose. It's hope for an exciting final although I fear it won't be.

I think I'll go for Croatia to win this World Cup. After winning the Round of 16, quarter-final and semi-final matches, I realized that Croatia are doing extremely well - they're really capable enough to defeat their opponents. They took part in the World Cup very seriously to reach the final. To me Croatia is on their way to become a stronger team, on par with the bigger international soccer teams like Germany and Spain.

I knew most bookies predicted a win for France, but I expect them to lose the final match. It'll be very surprising for the Croatia if they win the World Cup.

I'm watching the Wimbledon Mens' Final right now. I can expect a really long tennis match which may clash with the World Cup final in a few hours time.

If Croatia win today then Luka Modric would have won the Champions League and the World Cup in the same year. There can't have been many players who have achieved that!

I'm with Croatia for this. If they win, I win £70 in our work sweepstake, and I am going to spend every penny on Battenberg if I win.

Wow, memories from the final of 20 years ago, the infamous Ronaldo teamsheet mix-up.

France seem to be the better team, they have strong players, and Mbappe to watch out for, I think it be a good match, I just hope it doesn't go into Extra time, as the last 3 finals have drama.gif 3-2 in to France in 90 mins, Mbappe to score first, followed by Griezmann and Pavard.

But in my heart, I do fancy Croatia just for their first time to win a tournament, its been a while since we had a new country winning it.

Funny enough when the draw for the last 16 was up, based on their group games I predicted France versus Croatia final, wish I placed a bet. drama.gif

It was Spain 8 years ago the last time we had a new country winning it.

BBC1 for me, I think this is Guy Mowbray's third World Cup final he is commenting on as for Clive Tyldesley's fifth on ITV.
