Josh says - Haunted wasn't one of my immediate highlights from the self-titled album but it is one that has grown on me massively over the years and is now probably in my top three from the album. I think my highlight of the song is the sensual whispering of the 'KISS. BITE. f*** ME.' bit, it just works so well. I remember the start of the video completely terrifying 14 year-old me too when I first watched the visuals to go with the BEYONCÉ album laugh.gif

Sean says - the introduction to this is actually quite chilling to suit the title of Haunted, and the way it echoes and fades. It doesn't match my love for Pretty Hurts which launches the album brilliantly and the production on this feels quite limp in comparison. It eventually picks up though after the slow start and the beat is quite catchy.

Harry says - I love the production of this and her voice sounds really slick in this. I feel like this could be the one that continues to surprise me when I hear Beyonce album. Also I adore the video

First off, the prologue with the announcer butchering Beyonce’s name was hilarious (Bee-yawnce Knowles rotf.gif)

I actually hammered this a lot during Halloween (typically because of the title and not the subject matter). It’s the subtleties in the production that get me here, which is weird because my music tastes are normally instant and maximal. It’s something that plays on the more seductive side of her, yet it doesn’t go full on like Partition does. Her voice is more alluring and tries to pull you in, almost like a siren, especially in emphasizing certain parts (“My haunted luuuuuuuungs, ghost in the sheeeeeeeets”) for one. It ends up being a bit maximal during the climax, where everything just seems to come to a head, the beat intensifying and pulsating through the speakers and her voice getting louder and more refined.

There’s still a hint of cockiness that she possesses (“You like it? The bedroom's my runway” being the highlighted line) but it’s hidden so profusely in the song it almost feels like a staple.

Up next with.... 8 Days Of Christmas

I Say: Doesn't It Feel Like Christmas whenever this track comes on? It is IMO one of the most underrated Christmas songs around and the reason why it doesn't get enough airplay around the holidays or isn't brought much during the period which is a massive shame because Destiny's Child has released a great Xmas classic. I think I remember growing up it was on channels more for the holidays than it is now. I guess it to TV Channels there are better Xmas songs.

Josh Says: "This is one of the go-to Christmas songs for me and is probably in my top favourite festive bangers to bring out during winter. Unfortunately, it doesn't get as much airplay as loads of other Christmas songs but I always love it when a current act does an original Christmas song a bit like Ariana Grande and Kelly Clarkson from recent years so I'm a big fan of this too. Recently, I've been getting more into their version of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer too so I know these will serve me well over the next month cheer.gif".

Sean Says: "I often forget that there is this gem at this time of year as my love for other Christmas tracks and albums. It really suits Bey's voice perfectly and should definitely be spun more. The production is great to keep it a bit R&B as well as giving it that seasonal edge".

What does everyone else think of 8 Days Of Christmas?

I haven't played that yet this year but what a banger! *.* Definitely one of the more well remembered Christmas non chart hits of the 00s. Their version of "Carol of the Bells" from the album is beautiful too.

Sean says...
Sandcastles really stood out for me when I invested in Lemonade. There is really something quite raw about this track which makes it stand out among it's other album tracks, being quite an honest and downplayed Beyoncé that were not really used to. The quirky piano intro at the beginning and the vocal tones are fantastic and I think this should have been included in an acoustic set on the Formation tour but I think I'm apart of the minority on that one.

Harry says...
Whilst it may not be one of the highs of the album, sandcastles is a nice enough ballad. The vocals are the best part but the production is a little bit seen before. I don't go back to this as much as some of Lemonade but its a nice listen like I said, that's all I have to say about it really

Reviving this concept with an album track from her 2016 album Lemonade which was later released as a promotional single featuring Dixie Chicks! The song is about Beyoncé's childhood roots in Texas and the lessons she learned from her father and ex-manager Mathew Knowles. This was Beyoncé's first country song and something I never knew I needed until I heard it tbh. Before the remix this was comfortably my favourite album track from Lemonade and has definitely aged well in the 4 years since it's release. Dixie Chicks bring a lot to an already amazing song including an excerpt from their 2002 song Long Time Gone which talked about the changing landscape of country music referencing Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and Hank Williams Jr - ironically proving their point again by featuring on a Beyoncé song of all people!

I find this really annoying sad.gif LEMONADE is my least favourite album and this ranks fairly low on it. I don't think the genre suits her at all tbh and I don't really like the "shoot" lyrics repeated over and over again, oop.

Having recently come unfortunately low in the survivor, this weeks Track Of The Week is Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) from her I Am... Sasha Fierce album!

Even looking through old threads it seems Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) was never given much love by Buzzjack! As a collective forum we seem to give this a lot of hate and whilst I agree it's not her greatest, it's an easy song to sing a long to and in my experience at least it's been very well received when it comes on in public laugh.gif I personally have this in like 3 of my regular playlists and I'd be lying if I said I didn't bop along tbh.

The song itself will go down as a female empowerment anthem and it's had an incredible cultural impact. The dance from the video became viral too with many people recreating the video including celebrities such as Joe Jonas, Tom Hanks, and even had a skit about it on SNL featuring Justin Timberlake, Andy Samerg, and Beyonce herself *.*

I'll never understand the extreme hate! It's such an expertly crafted song, every element of it is a memorable hook. It's so feel-good. Iconic!

I can appreciate it not being everybody's cup of tea, but claims that it's the worst song of all time with no redeemable features at all... and the fact that there's quite a few members here who are on same page in thinking that... baffling!

Yes!! It's never been one of my Bey faves or even among my top 3 IASF singles but it's a great pop song! And the video...!!!

This weeks Track Of The Week is Say My Name, the third released single from Destiny's Child's second studio album The Writing's On The Wall! Discuss their second studio album more here! This became the groups 2nd #1 single in the US and 4th Top 10 in the UK. It was also the first and last of their singles to reach #1 in Australia ohmy.gif

The song won two Grammy Awards in 2001 as well as the 2000 MTV Video Music Award for Best R&B Video. Billboard named Say My Name the #7 Greatest Girl Group Songs of All Time and the best song of 2000! What an amazing legacy to set for a girl group fairly early on in their career *.*

The music video for Say My Name marked the debut of Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin to the group, replacing LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson. Matthew Knowles was reportedly withholding profits from Luckett and Roberson in December 1999 which resulted in the two being dismissed from the group when they requested more money. Shortly afterwards, Michelle and Farrah were recruited to Destiny's Child and were almost immediately filming the music video for Say My Name despite not having any vocals on the song (although Luckett and Robersons vocals did remain). "Luckett and Roberson said they did not know they were out of the group until seeing the "Say My Name" video, and in March 2000 they filed a lawsuit against Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland and manager Mathew Knowles for what they saw as a plot to ruin Luckett and Roberson's careers."

What a mess laugh.gif

This week let's talk about Best Thing I Never Had! This was the second single released from '4' and thematically serves as a sequel to Irreplaceable from 'B'Day' with Beyonce singing about about revenge and karma against a former lover - the music video ties in too, with her getting ready for her wedding whilst recalling her ex-lover who left her which turned out to be for the best. This got to #3 in the UK and #16 in the US, becoming her 14th Top 10 hit in the UK and her 16th Top 20 in the US!

Over time this has become one of my all-time favourite Beyonce songs! It's a ballad without being too ballad-y and has a real punch to it during the choruses/towards the end and is absolutely my favourite from '4' lyrically. This also got one of my three 11's in the ULTIMATE Beyoncé and Destiny's Child Rate kink.gif

A beautiful song - the video is stunning too. I don't return to '4' much but this is a clear highlight from that era heart.gif

Recently eliminated from the I Am... Sasha Fierce Survivor is this weeks Track of the Week (kink.gif) Broken-Hearted Girl! The 7th single released from her 2008 album, this made the top 20 i Australia, Brazil, the Czech Republic, Germany, and Ireland. In my opinion this is one of Beyonce's best ballads, a clear highlight from the album for sure and a song that will no doubt stand the test of time tbh. I've heard people comment about how it blends into the rest of the ballad-heavy Disc 1 of I Am... Sasha Fierce and gets lost in the emotion of the album..
