Welcome back to New Persephonia City (or welcome for the first time to the 75% of you who weren't in heat 1), it is time for the Andra Chansen round of Buzzjackfestivalen VI ~
8 songs have already booked a place in the grand final, and this round will pick another 3 songs to join them. In keeping with the format of the last BJFestivalen the victorious songs will be determined via a slightly convoluted duel system - I will explain it later in this post but don't worry about it if it's a little confusing, the only important points are the following: 1) Voting is only mandatory for those who have a song in this round but it is open to all 44 BJFestivalen VI participants - I encourage you all to have your say and support your faves, after all there are only 12 songs to listen to and you all know at least 3 of them already from the heats stage (unless your name is Math, but you can still vote even if that is your name). 2) To submit your votes simply drop a PM to me ranking the 12 songs below from your favourite to least favourite (excluding your own song if you have one). Don't worry about the duels mentioned in the latter half of the post, they will be worked out automatically. 3) The deadline is 23:59 BST on Thursday 17th June giving y'all a little over 4 days again. Our Andra Chansen contenders: 01 Cor Lupus // REZZ - Taste Of You (feat. Dove Cameron) 02 Elėdan // ooes - зима 03 Hendinia // NEIMY - Knife Out Of My Back 04 Jadakissnia // BLANCO - Notti In Bianco 05 Mulgracia // Smash Into Pieces - Bangarang 06 New Lexico // Emma Nicoline - Hva Så Nu 07 Niceland // Dynamite & Stadic - What Is That 08 Ojnoj // Ben Platt - Imagine 09 POPHub // Mari Bųlla - Not That Girl 10 République d'Įskorza // Luca Hänni & Sunlike Brothers - Durch Die Nacht 11 Skall // Hervé - Addenda 12 Sovarasma // FLAVIA - Ripe ~~~ (you can skip the rest of this post if you don't care about how the results are determined) Our eternal sponsor random.org has assigned the following duels: if you missed the bolded instructions above, you are not supposed to vote directly in these duels, you vote by ranking all 12 songs xx Duel 1 Elėdan vs. New Lexico Duel 2 Sovarasma vs. Jadakissnia Duel 3 Ojnoj vs. Cor Lupus Duel 4 Hendinia vs. République d'Įskorza Duel 5 Niceland vs. Skall Duel 6 Mulgracia vs. POPHub The winners of each duel will be determined by comparing how the duelling nations rank against each other in each of the votes, with a 50/50 weighting for the votes of AC participants and all other voters. In effect, there will be 20 'points' allocated between each duel, with the country getting over 10 points winning the duel. Here's an example of how points may be allocated as I am struggling to communicate how this works in a readable way - Let's say that all 12 AC participants vote as well as (very optimistically xx) 20 other people - Out of the 12 AC participants, 6 of them rank Elėdan above New Lexico and 4 rank New Lexico above Elėdan (New Lexico and Elėdan's own rankings not being considered as they cannot rank themselves); this would simply translate to 6 points to Elėdan and 4 points to New Lexico (that's the easy part) - Out of the 20 non-AC participant voters, 13 of them rank New Lexico above Elėdan and 7 of them rank Elėdan above New Lexico; this would be scaled down to 13/20*10 = 6.5 points to New Lexico and 7/20*10 = 3.5 points to Elėdan (replace the 20 in those calculations with however many non-AC participants actually vote in reality) - New Lexico would thus win the duel with 10.5 points to Elėdan's 9.5 After the 6 duel winners are determined, this will be whittled down to 3 qualifying nations (automatically, not requiring anyone to submit votes again) by performing the same calculations pitting the winner of duel 1 against the winner of duel 2, and the same for duels 3 vs. 4 and duels 5 vs. 6. If any of the duels turn out as 10-10 ties after weighting, preference will be given to the vote by AC participants. If that was also a 5-5 tie then we might need a crisis meeting to decide how to separate that tie but let's hope that just doesn't happen. x Makes sense? No? I tried my best just trust me, I know what I'm doing xo ~~~ Votes received so far (12 + 12): Cor Lupus Elėdan Hendinia Jadakissnia Mulgracia New Lexico Niceland Ojnoj POPHub République d'Įskorza Skall Sovarasma + Bųtanikkä Caerfyrddia Danęviia Dobago FSR Rontvia Harmonica Kathaldazia Land of DW Terra Lobster Persephonia Séyetana Zaminton |

Hmm not quite sure how the second round works. How do you decide which nation wins in the duel 1 vs. duel 2 round especially if one nation votes for the winners of duel 1 and duel 2 or the losers of duel 1 and duel 2? Sorry for the ask!

It's not a 'second round', it's worked out from the same set of votes - if Elėdan won duel 1 and Sovarasma won duel 2 then the qualifier is decided as if it was just a duel between Elėdan and Sovarasma for example. Everyone ranks all of the songs so it all just follows automatically. |

I realise that this is assumedly Sweden's fault and not Buzzjack's but one thing that's very unsatisfying is that we have 12 songs in each heat, 12 songs in Andra Chansen and then only 11 in the final.
why don't we have Andra Chansen of Andra Chansen to make a 12th finalist x Actually nvm I realised that the number of total songs and thus number in the initial heat is arbitrary and depends on the number of people choosing to enter. This post has been edited by Harve: 13th June 2021, 10:15 PM |

If it makes it less unsatisfying, there were only 11 songs in each heat.
Actual Melodifestivalen has 7 songs per heat, 8 in AC and 12 in the final. |

Voted/ranked!
My favourite here might just be my favourite overall, although there are one or two stunning DTF songs too. |

24 hours left for this! Awaiting the votes from 7 of the AC participants ~ (I'll probably send some reminders tomorrow)
Received 7 other votes so far from non-AC countries (8 if Addy gets back to me voting in the correct format I thought I'd made it clear enough but the duels are just for the results, you don't vote directly in them xx) - we had 10 non-AC countries voting in the AC round last time so would be good if we can beat that this time! |
