In a surprise to nobody, cases are the highest in the North but rising rapidly in the south in almost a reverse of March/April according to Imperial College London.
Surely they have to at least put everybody in Tier 2. |

Most people wear masks were I go out maybe 1/50 don’t.
Do you’d wear masks only in shops and public transport or generally everywhere? |

Confirmed yesterday that Germany is going into a "soft" national lockdown for the month of November. Going shopping on Saturday is going to be f***ing wild with everyone stocking up. I might take a late lunch and go out tomorrow afternoon instead.
 It was needed, the situation is escalating rapidly and in some places, like Berlin, control has been lost completely. I wish we'd moved sooner into some form of proper lockdown in Berlin as this is at the very least this is a good 2-3 weeks overdue. In the grand scheme of things, the action country wide is rather quick and responsive to the situation going from being Berlin + a few bad but localised outbreaks to being "the whole country is f***ed" in less than a fortnight. We've acted properly at lot earlier in the second wave than the rest of Europe. Although I do wonder if this national lockdown would be strictly necessary had Berlin 1) Actually enforced its party ban properly and started handing out eyewatering fines for both the organisers and attendees at the illegal raves 2) Gone into a city-wide lockdown 2-3 weeks ago. The media is reporting that Birmingham and the West Midlands is set to move into Tier 3 next week - Andy Street and local councils are trying to agree the package of measures.
I'm not surprised, it feels like people are behaving exactly the same as the pre-tier system. |

Isn't the bigger problem that is put London in to Tier 3 (or Lockdown) then everyone just buggers off back to their family homes - hence why the spread happened in March/April. See the problems in Paris last night.. you can lock the place down but then people will just move elsewhere. |

Covid is spreading "significantly" faster through England than even the government's predicted "worst-case" scenario, documents reveal. The Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) says there are around four times as many people catching Covid than anticipated. A "reasonable worst-case scenario" is used by officials and the NHS to plan for the months ahead. It had estimated 85,000 deaths from Covid over the course of winter. But an official Sage document, dated 14 October and published today, reveals we are in a worse position than expected. Yes, Boris to announce it on TV on Monday and it'll last a month apparently. All but essential shops, schools and nurseries and unis closed.

I'm torn. We've clearly lost control of the virus (although there are some positive signs in terms of cases stagnating, definitely in Scotland) but the economy is gonna be guttered. I do NOT think this government can give the help local businesses need, I already know some well loved places in Aberdeen that have had to shut.
It'll feel so weird going to school whilst a full lockdown is on. I mean how are we gonna be packed into corridors and queue in groups of 100 outside Tesco at Lunch like nothing's happened? I really really don't want school to close but imo we need a new system like S1-3 come in Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday morning whilst S4-6 come in Wednesday afternoon/Thursday/Friday or something. We've just got the new Levels system in Scotland, I suppose if it's a full lockdown than Nicola will follow suit? |

Tbh I am not against that, there is some merit in it but only if businesses are supported and there is a clear pathway out of it. There is absolutely no chance our hospitals are going to survive without some form of intervention. |

It’ll be really weird if Wales come out of our lockdown a few days after England go into theirs. Drakeford has said non essential shops, restaurants, gyms, etc will reopen from the 9th and that there will still be restrictions but local lockdowns will be no more with only a national approach from this point on.
I do feel that whatever happens in England will have an affect on Wales. |
