As Erotica, Madonna's controversial, provocative album turns 25, and as the lady herself nears her 60th birthday, we ask the question - what would happen if Madonna released this album now? There is always talk about how sexualised Madonna is now and whether it's acceptable for her to be like this "at her age" but what do you think? Could Madonna get away with releasing something SO extreme and provocative at this age? Would you want her to or is it an album and project of its time?

Very interesting question. I feel like music critics could potentially be more open to an album similar to Erotica if Madonna were to release one today, assuming that the music itself was creative and the lyrical content had that same charm and wit about it. I think it's largely the cliches and uninspiring, unexciting lyrics that refer to sex that critics find most off-putting. I feel the same; I think there is definitely a conversation to be had surrounding sexuality once you've hit a certain age and, like how society was back in 1992, it's something people pretend doesn't exist. If Madonna could present and explore this issue in the same way she approached Erotica, it would be something I'd be willing to hear.

No doubt the public would have negative reactions to it, but it would be much more dismissive than outraged and shocked. People aren't shocked about seeing sex and nudity anymore and people aren't surprised to hear about Madonna acting provocatively and sexually.

Her last album did feature songs that suit the themes of Erotica .

Sex , Holy Water & Body Shop for example.

I love looking back in this era ! So many interviews on the book and album on you tube that I have listened to hundreds of time.

Yeah I think more than "oh god what has the world come to, think of the children!!1!" it'd be more cringe and god forbid a woman of 60 is discussing sex I do think it's quite of its time, nowadays there's so much sex in the media that I doubt it would cause the same ripples of controversy.

She returned to some of the ideas in the last album but I'm talking more an entire era that revolved her sexuality and displayed her as a mistress. I agree with Liam though that it would be more cringe and people would probably create memes of her "trying" to be this dominating mistress and no one would take it seriously. Erotica is very much of its time in terms of how Madonna evolved as an artist. She could come back with something as controversial but the music would have to be totally on point and not cringe in any way.

I'd personally rather she continued along the ideas of Rebel Heart and did more work on being the rebellious outsider in a cruel world or as we're all expecting.. totally political and anti-Trump :')

Yeah, I am totally ready for a bit of Political Madonna with her next album, although not without its tender, Portuguese-influenced moments either.
