Del Rey takes the crown for the second time this year as Stevie Nicks collab Beautiful People Beautiful Problems becomes this year’s 22nd chart topper. Being a huge fan of both artists, this was only a matter of time really, although I was slightly surprised myself how low this came on the indie forum’s Lust For Life tracks rate. I guess if Stevie’s a new name to you and not music royalty the track has less of an impact. For Lana, this was her Britney-Spears-and-Madonna moment. Last week’s leader Honor slips to #2, and is joined in the top 5 by rises from BJSC discovery Naika and Pink, while Lauren Faith’s the only other newie into the top ten.

Highest new entry total this week goes to London Grammar; I didn’t like Oh Woman Oh Man at the time, but it sounds much better around this time of year. Official UK Chart #1 Dua Lipa’s New Rules is not far behind as this week’s second-highest new entry, debuting for me at #14. It’s Lipa’s sixth appearance so far this year, joining three #1s, a further top ten and a top 30. Harry Styles also gains his first top 20 this week, becoming the third of the One Direction boys to get that high for me.

A bunch of new entries come this week from mainly indie artists that you may or may not know; Nerina Pallot, Frankie Rose, The Preatures, Elohim, Harrison Wheeler, Malika and Tritonal are some of the least well-known names to debut new tunes this week. Joining them are newies from the more-renowned Kings of Leon, Kesha, Robbie Williams, and another for reigning queen Lana, this time alongside A$AP Rocky and everyone's favourite Playboi Carti. Lana this week moves into joint-third position for the number of weeks spent at the top so far this year, alongside Jhene Aiko and the Chainsmokers; Martin Garrix with four weeks is currently second, and Dua Lipa rules the roost, having notched up six chart-topping weeks since January. Will New Rules extend that lead? You’ll have to check back next week and find out.

All new entries will be getting individual video links and a bit of commentary later on in the week, so check back and that’ll save you having to search them out individually, I’ll update the thread title accordingly when those are done. For now, the top 40 for this fourth and final week of August:

Hey Jupiter,

You did mention to me on plug last week that Lana was going to #1 in your personal chart. I've not heard the song yet so perhaps you can plug it for me later. wink.gif

Nice big climb for P!nk and I see Dua Lipa has finally entered here as well. yahoo.gif

Looking closely I see there's actually a very high number of new entries this week, including ones by Harry Styles and Robbie Williams which I'm yet to hear. ohmy.gif

Please be sure to check out my chart for this week — Top 40 Countdown by awardinary (W/E 01/09/2017).

Great chart! cool.gif

As well as a new number 1 this week, DJ Khaled's Wild Thoughts featuring Rihanna and Bryson Tiller becomes the longest-running consecutive charter this year, gaining a tenth week in the top 40 total and 8th in the top 25. The hispanic-influenced R&B song is boosted by a late second surge in its 9th charting week. As I'm back in busy work season now (yay, education) charting weeks might start to rise again on average as my listening habits - and time - become slightly more limited again.

New entries this week are pretty firmly split between high end and low end with less in the middle. The highest, within the top 20, go to quite well known acts London Grammar, Dua Lipa, and Harry Styles - an unlikely enough triad. OWOM is London Grammar's third track this year to debut at #12, Two Ghosts becomes Styles's highest charter, while New Rules debuts as Lipa's lowest solo this year, and will remain so unless it sees a surge next week. As I'm not particularly on the hype train, that's actually a possibility. Here's all three:

Into the middle, and let's split this into a four and a three. 25-28 this week features new entries from The Preatures, Frankie Rose, Nerina Pallot and Robbie Williams - artists who are to varying degrees well-established and well-known within their respective genres. The former three have been on my radar for 3-4 years, dating from a period where I completely moved away from pop and listened to a lot more indie. They all dwell within slightly different shades; Pallot more of a KT Tunstall classic guitar indie pop sound, Preatures slightly pop punky, Frankie Rose more adult contemporary, but it's good to see all three out with new material. Robbie Williams' track also grabbed me by dropping a bit more into that genre; I'm always interested in seeing what direction young A List stars mature into.

Up into the 30s with a mixed bunch now, another belated new entry for Lana as buzz single Summer Bummer squeaks in, joined by a debut new track for newcomer Harrison Wheeler, and a collab from current BJSC entrant Elohim and ex-XCX collaborator Whethan; their tune Love Gang hit top 5 earlier this year.

Finally another group of four in a row at the tail end of this week's chart, new entries for Kesha, Malika, Kings of Leon and Tritonal. Going back to front, Good Thing sees Tritonal's debut as a lead artist, having previously charted a few remixes and collabs. Malika's Run is a slow burner that's been kicking about my B-list since April, and squeaks in this week after a brief run in A - you can see my current A-list linked in the OP and my signature, if you're a spotify user. Kings of Leon's Eyes On You is at present an album track but a great reminder of their famous sound from their commercial peak, while Kesha's Rainbow is a slightly restrained more-of-the-same as she brought to us on comeback single Praying, moving away from dancepop into a rockier-influenced acoustic ballad that wouldn't be out of place on a pre-2017 Paramore effort. Altogether, very pleased with this week's chart, offering a radio playlist-worthy range of styles and sounds from a great crop of bands and artists.

Any questions, comments, or chat you are inspired to have, feel free to fire away! I will reply smile.gif
What do you think of my new format instead of a wee writeup for each entry individually?

Thanks Wardy! Unfortunately Lana has not made the track youtube-available yet, so you'll have to spotify it! Having said that, it might not be up your street...it's very slow and acousticy.

Yes, Pink has a lot of climbing ahead of her...

New Harry and Robbie are now linked, along with the rest of the new entries biggrin.gif
