CURRENT ENTRY (135) ~ KAMILLE - MIRROR MIRROR

>>> JUPITERDONIA <<<

We may be the newest nation as of the last few contests, but we figured it was probably about time to create a national thread to support our entries and hopefully pick up a few fans - or opinions, at least!

Jupiterdonia's a nation of many contrasts, flowery fields in the countryside with great landscapes, but a more industrial feel in our cities, particularly our capital, Lipstick! Many will see this contrast extending to the kind of entries we end up choosing to send to BJSC contests.

We welcome comments on any of our entries thus far and hope they will be liked! But we are happy to share them on, regardless, too.

For BJSC 97, Jupiterdonia will be sending Smallpools with their 2017 should-be summer smash, Million Bucks.

Smallpools are perhaps best-known nowadays for the 2013 indie anthem Dreaming. Now, they're back in business with another big album campaign, and we in Jupiterdonia were very impressed with what they've had to offer!

Here's the track, another feelgood/don't care indie bop and a half:

Posted by: 360Jupiter Aug 15 2017, 04:05 AM

11th in the semi, 27th in the final, and picking up a bunch of 18s and 15s in the final, you can't do better than that for a first run! Jupiterdonia is happy to have shared Smallpools' Million Bucks to a new and appreciative audience, and picked up some fans along the way!

Watch this space as we will be floating a few suggestions of our potentials for the next contest and possibly asking readers to have a vote for which they'd like to see us send to BJSC98!

Posted by: Dobbo Aug 16 2017, 08:19 AM

A belated congrats on your first qualifier! A catchy number that just missed out on my points in the end but hopefully here's to the start of a successful run for this young nation.

Posted by: Rob S Aug 16 2017, 08:27 AM

Yasss, well done on your first qualifier (belatedly as I didn't comment on that last week) & getting top 30. This was yet another song that grew on me going from 4 in the semi to 15th in my final votes. You can't knock a good indie/alternative track when you hear one!
Plus I knew you wouldn't be bottom 10 somehow which is why I didn't put you there biggrin.gif

Posted by: Capybréra Aug 16 2017, 06:06 PM

Glad to see you not having to wait too long for a first qualifier! Both your entries so far have been pretty decent, hoping I can get more behind a Jupiterdonia entry soon ;o x

Whyyy is it Jupiterdonia?? sad.gif sad.gif

It takes away #IMPAKT from impaktnationBeaverdonia

Thanks folks for all the kind comments smile.gif

Now as promised, although it's jumping the gun a bit, we've been thinking about it, and so we're going to share some potentials for BJSC98 here. We have our entry generally narrowed down to three or four, but we are not entirely sure at this moment which of those we'll ultimately go for. So, you, our fans's thoughts would be very much appreciated, if you wanted to share them!

Here's three to kick you off:

Firstly, a recent track that drops our usual indie M.O to go more pop. It's playing against type, but this has gone down well in the plugs we've dropped it so far - although, generally with quite small audiences. Thoughts on Emily Zeck?

Secondly, a late summer-into-autumn jam from former feature artist, now doing her own thing, Rachel K Collier. Some of you may remember her from flash in the pan hit Boom Boom (Heartbeat) from a few years back.

Thirdly, another that's had a few plug previews and has gone down very well every time, as well as being featuring in my top 100 of 2016 countdown last year right up there at the very top. A little older again, and with perhaps a slightly risque video, George Maple (who is surprisingly enough, a woman) with GoldLink on a Banks-esque track that's much better than the title would suggest.

Thoughts on any of these - or even a ranking of which you like the most, and/or which you think would go down well, are most welcomed! As is general discussion in the thread biggrin.gif

Posted by: StillJupiter Aug 24 2017, 08:16 PM

So, quick update, unless we get vetoed we've actually gone for none of the above songs! We think the one we've plumped for should be decently popular though, and we have ultimately gone a bit away from indie tunes we've sent so far...

Perhaps we will give it a spin in a plug session if we happen to appear in one before Sunday, as an early preview!

As for the above, we still will consider sending some of those songs to future contests - so no stealing please!

Posted by: Meatball Cody Aug 25 2017, 02:25 AM

I THINK I KNOW WHAT IT IS

Posted by: StillJupiter Aug 28 2017, 10:40 PM

Yes, for BJSC98 we haven't been vetoed and will be sending Romanian dance goddess Inna with her bilingual party starter Yalla. Inna wasn't our nation's initial choice for this contest, but a couple of times we played Yalla in plug to a resounding response and suggestions from fans that we entered it for our nation. Blessedly, the gods looked favourably upon our entry.

Inna will be a familiar name to most for her brief run of UK and broader European chart success nearly ten years ago now with the singles Hot and Sun Is Up. What you might not know is that she's kept releasing consistently since that peak and can generally be relied upon to release some great summer tunes every year. Yalla's not her latest effort, but it's one that glorious leader Jupiter did not personally come across until earlier this year and as such has been a firm favourite of 2017 in Jupiterdonia.

Sharing it now for your pleasure and hoping it picks up some fans!

Shame that yet again we aren't in the same Semi! sad.gif

Posted by: StillJupiter Sep 1 2017, 12:54 AM

We in Jupiterdonia have had it requested of us a few times and have finally after a long competition in our glorious country gained a flag. Do not judge its artistic merits too harshly as it was designed by a precious Jupiterdonian child with, if we are honest, not so much artistic skill. They are still a valued citizen.
The flag thread can now have one less gap in it!

^^^ national pride ^^^

Posted by: Capybréra Sep 1 2017, 01:41 AM

Hoorayy. Thank you! *adds to thread* x

'Yalla' is my fave of your entries so far btw, love a good ethnic-y dance track *.*

Posted by: StillJupiter Sep 5 2017, 10:11 AM

Another qualification for Jupiterdonia, bringing our Q streak up to 2! Now, bring on the final! Hoping Inna can pick us up a few more fans this time around, and surpass her previous peak positions when she's represented other nations biggrin.gif

Posted by: StillJupiter Sep 12 2017, 11:16 PM

Well, after a rocky qualification stage where we surprisingly only scraped into the final, we ended up with our first top ten (from our second qualifier of three, which feels pretty impressive!) as Yalla ended BJSC98 in 6th! Thanks Inna :3

We managed quite wide appeal as we only picked up two top scores this time round, but enough lower scores from many voters to secure our position in the top ten. Next target, the top 5! Onwards and upwards biggrin.gif

To those who liked Inna and voted, thank you! We hope the new (and older!) Jupiterdonia fans will stay with and keep supporting us in upcoming and future contests, now they've seen what we can bring to the table :3

Perhaps next time round we will send a brand new artist for people to discover...

Posted by: StillJupiter Sep 24 2017, 01:29 AM

...and yes, we are sending for BJSC99 another switch-up, our first less-established artist Syn Cole, with the track Sway featuring vocals from the lovely Nevve. Cole's an Estonian producer who's previously done remixes for the likes of Kiesza and Jess Glynne, while Nevve has recently appeared on tracks alongside Illenium, Quix and Blu J. Where BJSC98 saw us dabble with dance, we've gone full-on into the genre this contest with our entry that wouldn't be out of place on - and indeed, is featured within - any of the big EDM subgenre youtube and spotify channels and playlists.

As ever, we're hoping this picks up some fans and appeal, and look forward to hopefully getting a chance to plug it before semi votes are due!

Without further ado, enjoy!

Shockingly ish, an NQ for my former personal chart #1 and one of my top songs of the year! We will be back with a vengeance for #100 though wink.gif

Posted by: The Cownjuring Oct 4 2017, 07:13 PM

Sway should have done so much better sad.gif

Posted by: FreddyVsJupiter Oct 9 2017, 07:20 AM

Knowing my luck as soon as I go back to indie that'll be the semi I'm in with dance bloc ohmy.gif
Thanks for commenting tho and liking Sway...it may be my favourite entry I've sent yet so it was a real shame to NQ.

So, 100 looms now. I have three potential entries in mind; a brand newie, one that's a little older, and a comedy one. Anyone have any preferences there from those vague categories? I will be trialling some in plug this week too, so come along if you fancy a preview :3

Posted by: FreddyVsJupiter Oct 26 2017, 08:00 AM

For 100 we've decided on a bit of Brooke Candy...actually, we couldn't resist... after our original entry this time round gave us our first veto! an exciting experience in itself. Glorious leader Jupiter is a bit of a Brooke stan, she's appeared in Jupiter's end of year countdowns for just about the last three years running now, not bad for someone with a career not much longer than that. Candy got her main commercial push back in the day from appearing in Grimes's Genesis video, which helped Grimes move up a tier too! Although primarily a rapper, Brooke has delved a bit more into singing on some tunes, such as the previously-entered Happy Days. Recently she's worked with Bleachers and Sia, moving up in the world.

Rubber Band Stacks, our entry this time round, is a short slice of pop-rap starring Brooke's signature shocking and a little gross elements, a big part of her character that blends heavy tattoos and shocking behaviour with her natural beauty and blonde icon imagery. Most recent vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhagirtBr8M features bondage, angels, and heavily pregnant backup dancers, but this one reins things in a bit. Still a lot of fun though! Hope some of you like and will consider throwing a vote our way for the big 1-0-0!

Posted by: T H I N G Oct 26 2017, 11:00 AM

i VERY nearly sent this myself once before (had it confirmed in bjsc... 78 or something i wanna say?), absolutely love it! hope it does well for you

Posted by: Rob Zombie Oct 26 2017, 06:32 PM

yup I can see this smashing for you. what a banger *.*

Posted by: Jupiteer Nov 5 2017, 05:44 PM

A qualification! Yaaas Jesus biggrin.gif after the last one not qualifying we had resigned ourselves to the worst.

Thanks for the support, Brooke fans!

Posted by: Jupiteer Nov 21 2017, 01:13 AM

35th in the final after qualifying against a really tough field, as a nation with not much history here, not too shabby! Very happy to get a total of 161 points which would be enough to be much higher in many contests. No 18s this time round (I think) but a few 15s which made this small nation very happy and touched.

Here's a special gift as thanks from Brooke alongside Charli XCX and Cupcakke on fan fave Lipgloss to all of y'all who now love a bit of freaky princess biggrin.gif

Posted by: Jüpiter Jan 22 2018, 10:24 AM

It's 2018 and time for BJSC 101! Jupiterdonia this time round has plumped to fish in a similar ish pool as we did for the big 1-0-0 with our choice of Femme En Fourrure's song Ride for this first contest of the year. We're getting freaky with it on this track that takes strong influence from Grimes and FKA twigs, with a creepy, artful video. Hoping as ever that we pick up some fans and see some success this time!

Check out the track below:

Posted by: Cucumberella Jan 22 2018, 11:43 PM

GOOD CHOICE DARLING

Posted by: Jüpiter Jan 29 2018, 11:32 PM

A qualification! :3 And we seem to be picking up some fans along the way too. Thank you to our voters/fans so far, you are fab individuals with (if we say so ourselves) quite admirable taste!

Jupiterdonia would request that you don't forget about us in the final even though we're on at the very end! You know you need a boy who can...

Posted by: Jüpiter Feb 6 2018, 03:25 PM

Unfortunately despite qualifying for this one's final and being tipped as a dark horse by some, Femme En Fourrure proved to be a divisive entry and crashed out 32nd of 37 after a strong start in the votes giving us our worst result so far in the contest in comparison to number of entries. A shame! Back to the drawing board for what Jupiterdonia will be sending in 102; we're thinking it might be time for us to send something completely different and see how that does, considering which songs ended up rising to the top of 101!

For now, it's goodbye from Femme En Fourrure with another track for any of you who enjoyed Ride!

Posted by: Bré Feb 6 2018, 04:08 PM

I don't really get what went wrong with this one tbh! Admittedly I didn't really help it out thaaat much as it only got 2 points from me but I figured it'd appeal even more to others. Ah well ;o

That's your answer! We're still only quite a new country, points are hard to come by!

So we have a few options for 102...our entry will either be something old, something slow, or something from a soundtrack.. (we think!) Watch this space wink.gif
and of course if you have any comments on which of those intrigues the most to come from Jupiterdonia, please do let us know and we'll take that into account before making a final decision wink.gif

Posted by: Jüpiter Feb 14 2018, 06:28 PM

...so ultimately we changed our entry to none of the above! It's still something you haven't heard yet from Jupiterdonia though, possibly even something a little unexpected to come from this nation! Not a genre we've sent before, either. Here's hoping it pays off for us! Reveal in circa 3 days, ready yourselves, Jupiterdonia fans!

Speculation and guesses welcome of course, though we won't be confirming any correct guesses until after deadline date wink.gif

Posted by: Jüpiter Feb 18 2018, 11:04 PM

102 is here and with it, Jupiterdonia's first foray into kpop! AMBER X LUNA serves some androgynous realness and an aesthetic music video with b&w and colour segments, as well as an addictive dance break biggrin.gif We hope Lower is able to pick up some likes and fans and that people appreciate this new approach from Jupiterdonia this time round! An exciting new contest awaits!

Posted by: Bré Feb 23 2018, 11:50 PM

The breakdown of this is so disjointed but somehow actually works really well. Never heard a K-Pop song like this before, I approve though *.*

Posted by: Jüpiter Feb 25 2018, 08:34 PM

And it's another NQ. We appear to be going backwards unfortunately. A little unexpected after the predictions for this to do well in the final and the whole thing, but I guess a small country should never take points and predictions for granted! Back to the drawing board to see what can possibly actually get some points next time around, and what we can do to not have this happen again...

Posted by: Jüpiter Mar 6 2018, 11:50 PM

|||| 103... ||||

Greetings, international citizens! Of two potentials for BJSC103 to mull over, we either have a pop-rap stomper with a mighty drop, or a touch of Latinx with a Spanish-language duet banger. Which are you liking the sound of the most of those two? Has the Latin boom been and gone? Thoughts and feelings welcome, we in Jupiterdonia love a chatter!

Posted by: BridgeCow Mar 7 2018, 07:22 AM

pop-rap stomper with a mighty drop sounds amazing

Posted by: Jüpiter Mar 8 2018, 10:29 PM

We thank Cowtermont for their input and will indeed take that on board in our decision wink.gif

Posted by: 5 Silas Frųkner Mar 11 2018, 07:37 PM

Well Ashton did just win with a Spanish language banger...

Posted by: Jüpiter Mar 19 2018, 08:02 AM

Time for 103 and we've gone a little back to basics Jupiterdonia with Tunde Olaniran! Gender-bending urban-styled pop with a drop isn't too far away from some of our other recent entries (and maybe not as weird as Femme En Fourrure), so hopefully should appeal to our fans and some others! If you do fall into that camp, Jupiterdonia would love it if you would send some votes our way as we've been losing out that way recently!
Tunde's not been going for very long as a fulltime musician; after some EPs to test the water, his debut album Transgressor (2016) is pretty emblematic of who he is as an artist, coming from mixed African heritage growing up in Europe and the US, genre-bending with his music, and being an unapologetically plus-sized dancer and social activist too! And that vocal range... We are fans and hope some of you will become fans too! And here's the song for those of you who don't want to have to wait to the very end of Semi 1!

Posted by: Jüpiter Mar 25 2018, 10:25 PM

A qualification! This is a nice change! Thanks to all of you who liked and voted for Namesake in Round 1, would be great if it could keep growing on you for Round 2! Discussion and comments super welcome, although this is a Jupiterdonia thread, words from guests to our nation are warmly welcomed!

Posted by: Addyland Mar 25 2018, 10:28 PM

Yay you know how much I like this since you first time played it this on plug wub.gif

Congrats.

Posted by: Dobbo Mar 25 2018, 10:56 PM

This is a top track. Very MNEK!

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds Mar 30 2018, 08:35 AM

This isn't the type of track I'm usually on board with but I'm really loving it, had it stuck in my head all day yesterday laugh.gif

Posted by: Jüpiter Apr 4 2018, 07:39 PM

Well, happily Namesake gave Jupiterdonia our second highest placing of 12th last contest, including picking up lots of high points from many nations and two 18s biggrin.gif

Thanks to all our voters and those who supported us and our entry this time round. We're happy to have brought a great song to a new group of fans!

Here's another from Tunde to close out this chapter

Hoping to see you back supporting Jupiterdonia in BJSC 104 where we have a couple of great bops lined up for potential entry!

Posted by: Bré Apr 4 2018, 07:44 PM

This really turned into a bit of a bop for me after being initially unsure about it, Jupiterdonia are getting better and better for me thus far! Glad this did pretty well after going a bit under the radar in the predictions etc.

Posted by: Jüpiter Apr 9 2018, 08:47 PM

So 104 is just around the corner now and we are not 100% sure what we will be sending yet, although we have an initial confirmation down... we have modern easten european pop, Spanish bop, and/or George Maple-esque indie in our sights right now... any of those intrigue any of you more than the others?? Or you think will go down particularly well in this contest?? Thxxxx

Posted by: Dobbo Apr 9 2018, 09:12 PM

I'm quite the fan of eastern European pop having sent a couple of entries of that ilk in the past. They tended to do rather well too!

Posted by: BridgeCow Apr 9 2018, 09:18 PM

Spanish Bop (if it's the one I think it is) pls

Posted by: Jüpiter Apr 11 2018, 08:54 PM

If it’s the one I think it is, I already sent it and it DNQ’d </3

Posted by: Jüpiter Apr 16 2018, 07:50 PM

After some careful consideration it's Antonia who will be representing Jupiterdonia this month with her Tango! It's our second foray into Eastern European pop and delivers exactly as you'd expect if you're familiar with it; beautiful setting, great use of colour, costumes, and dance, and a really on-trend modern dance drop for the chorus. We're hoping this will continue our run at the higher end of the results after getting up there again last month!

Here she is for your enjoyment! If you like, please send some voting love our way! biggrin.gif

Posted by: BridgeCow Apr 16 2018, 07:58 PM

but why did I think this was spanish ffs lmao rotf.gif

Posted by: Jüpiter Apr 17 2018, 05:38 AM

To be fair the tango itself is Spanish (right?) tongue.gif so I can see the confusion wink.gif

Posted by: Dobbo Apr 21 2018, 01:56 PM

As I had anticipated this is a great little pop bop. Had I not known otherwise I would have assumed this was Spanish as well tbf.

Posted by: Jüpiter Apr 23 2018, 06:54 AM

Semi down, we qualified! Hopefully Antonia stood out against the field that was ranked by many to be full of songs with about the same level of impact as each other. Next up, the final! A plug session this week where Antonia hopes to reach out to a wider audience and lock down those votes she already has. Your support again would be really appreciated by Jupiterdonia! Please keep the conversation going and feel free to ask any questions or leave comments here!

Posted by: Dobbo Apr 23 2018, 06:36 PM

This just keeps growing & growing! 2 fantastic entries from you in a row.

Posted by: Jüpiter Apr 25 2018, 11:10 AM

Thanks Dobbo! Bit of a mixed reception on the most recent plug, but it is a bit of a slow burner and came quite late in the sesh after some of the big hitters, so hopefully that won't count against Tango when the votes come in!

Posted by: Jüpiter Apr 30 2018, 07:42 AM

Ultimately 32nd in the final wasn't quite as high as we'd been hoping for (especially after top 10 in the semi), but in a tough field with a lot of strong leaders, at least we weren't rock bottom like in the dance contest! Jupiterdonia would like to thank all our voters, especially the high-scoring Ramrynia, Unovia, St Burbia, and Ashton who gave us an 18 in the final as well as their 12 in the semi! We hope to continue good relations between your generous countries!

105 is just round the corner so we may or may not be floating some potentials this time round to the Jupiterdonia fans, keep a watch out for this thread updating with those for your consideration!

And here's a little more Antonia for now to close out this chapter of Jupiterdonian history:

Posted by: Jüpiter May 2 2018, 07:23 PM

As promised we have three potentials for your consideration for the now-close-upcoming 105th contest!

What do y'all like the sound of most out of
1) a slightly dark electro-pop bop from a long-established artist in that genre who's nevertheless never been entered not been entered for AGES,
2) an indie pop offering by a female act who's been sent before but who's developed a bit since then, or
3) an actual Sigala-like dance song but which doesn't have a video?

We're currently leaning one direction (it would be lovely to extend our Q streak to 3 instead of NQing again after 2 for the fourth contest in a row!) but some advice or leanings from the BuzzJack public would definitely help us make this decision this time!

Posted by: Cody💧Slayberry May 2 2018, 08:40 PM

While I'm tempted by the pure dance, I kinda feel like I'd rather hold out and see if it gets a video as it's a fairly new release! For now we're looking at an indie option... unless we get cold feet!

Posted by: Jüpiter May 15 2018, 05:01 PM

Yes for the 105th edition of BJSC we will be sending indiegirl EZI (aka Esther Zynn) with Dancing in a Room! (sorry, I'm not reproducing that horrible formatting though...) EZI's been on our radar since debut single Redemption last year and is currently top tenning on Jupiter's personal charts with this song, her highest to date. This entry sees us going for a significantly less weird tune than some of our recent entries, hopefully we'll still pick up some fans. This was one we really wanted to share anyway this month, yes, it is a bit Spotify perhaps, but it's very catchy and most of us are pop fans anyway here, this is exactly the kind of act that'd be good to see doing better in the future and as such we're happy to boost to a wider audience.

Here's the tune for y'all to enjoy, hope it picks up some fans (and some points!) biggrin.gif

We qualified! First time to get three in a row! Thanks to all of you that voted! If you have thoughts or anything you want to say about the track, please keep the discussion going in this thread!

Posted by: Jüpiter Jun 11 2018, 12:56 AM

EZI scraped top 30 at the end which is not too shabby, still a third qualification in a row! If only that typesetting wasn't such a horrible choice it may have ended up even higher! Thanks to all who voted for her in the 105 contest! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Jüpiter Jun 11 2018, 01:02 AM

PRIDE is upon us and with it, spinoff season for BJSC! Jupiterdonia has not been a cheap hoe nation and has decided to introduce the young whippersnappers to a classic and somewhat overlooked queer icon artist with our choice of Peaches for this contest edition!

Taken from her latest album in 2015 we chose this one especially for plug and hopefully to appeal to the senisbilities of some of our fellow countries biggrin.gif Fair warning in advance though, the video is a little risque - in an artistic way, of course!

In advance of the plug session this week, here's our entry for your listening and watching pleasure! Probably not one you should watch at work tho tongue.gif

Comments and thoughts welcome as ever!

This song was a fabulous discovery, a banger *.* I'm not sure how to react to that video though... I suppose it is a bit literal laugh.gif

Thank you Bré, a convert to our ranks!

16th in the end up out of more than 40 entries is far better than we expected for Light in Places! Thank you to everyone who voted and especially those who scored us in their top 5, which was quite a few of you! ohmy.gif

Perhaps this won't be the last time you see Peaches for Jupiterdonia in BJSC wink.gif

Liberate en masse
Eliminate the class

BJSC106 POTENTIALS...

Now that 106 is just around the corner we have a few potentials for your consideration! #1 is a retro-inspired slow tempo pop song with a gorgeous video, #2 an indie pop song with an artsy low-budget video, and #3 is a five-minute lounge tune with no video whatsoever! Any of those stand out as something you'd really like to hear from Jupiterdonia - or in general! - this time round? Let me know!

Posted by: Mattias Jul 2 2018, 08:43 AM

'artsy low-budget video' sounds amazeballs lmao but this ain't no video competition tongue.gif The indie pop song it's with could be good tho ofc, and you probably already know I'd personally be likely to be a sucker for the lounge tune but it's up to you.

*he sends the retro-inspired slow tempo pop song with a gorgeous video*

In the absence of any other suggestions you might get your wish tongue.gif

Posted by: Jüpiter Jul 10 2018, 12:20 PM

For 106 we are sending Rainsford who's currently enjoying a long run in the top 10 of Jupiter's personal charts. The elusive Q has got his wish as we've sent the low budget indie, yes, actually sending one of our potentials that we suggested earlier in the month this time round instead of picking something completely different!

Rainsford is a former country singer who's taken an indie turn - to something far superior! There's a bit of New Rules influence in the video though much lower budget, nice to see a bit of a dance though and a lovely genderqueer presentation too. This features Twin Shadow who's been sent to BJSC before before doing some backing vocals on the chorus and actually appearing in the video too, surprisingly enough. The two apparently have collaborated a few times.

This is ultimately a quite chill midtempo indie bop that hopefully will pick up a few fans and qualify for the next round. Not too dissimilar to our last entry - but with a better video and minus that horrible tYpeseTiNg!

Please listen and enjoy - and vote for us if you like! Feel free to comment too if you've any thoughts! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Mattias Jul 10 2018, 12:40 PM

Aw, well... Too bad I'm not in this contest but good luck regardless heehee.gif The video is pretty cool indeed, and the song is qt as well. I also remember that Rainsford was sent to the Unknown Pleasures contest I hosted back in 2016 with the song 'Too Close'!

Posted by: Jüpiter Jul 17 2018, 01:34 PM

Unfortunately fishing again in the same pool as our previous entrant, EZI, didn't bring us much luck as Rainsford's BJSC journey ends at the first hurdle. Still, we are happy to have shared on a song that Jupiterdonia at least enjoyed this last month, and to pick up a +10 from Leonardo in the semi, one of our few medalling high scores! Even if we did come second-bottom of the whole thing overall tongue.gif

Next month something different again then probably!

Posted by: Jüpiter Aug 2 2018, 10:01 PM

So before I decide for definite, I've narrowed it down to two this time for 107. Both are a switch-up on what we've sent recently.

Do you want...
indie pop rock with a big chorus
or
a 6 minute slow and somewhat depressing acoustic folky one?

Be nice to get some feedback! If we have any fans left out there... ohmy.gif

Posted by: Jüpiter Aug 9 2018, 12:19 AM

Since none of you gave us any suggestions whatsoever we had a crisis of confidence and sent something completely different. (again!) Back to dance-pop for 107 with a new song from Paces featuring singer Emmalyn, formerly of short-lived girlband G.R.L., and rapper Jeida Woods. Paces has a fair impact already on Jupiter's charts, landing three top 40 hits since 2015 including 'Going Mad' featuring Raven Felix and Clypso from earlier this year.

We were won over by the swagger on show in the video and the great styling of Emmalyn with her blue hair and pink, white and orange outfits. True summer style inspiration.

As always, we'd love votes! Hoping some of you - or ideally, everyone! - like this one from Jupiterdonia.

I would be interested to hear this one actually, sounds like it could be potentially really good. Although depending on how it sounds it might be one that's kind of begging for last place in the semi. x

I would hope it'd be more of a Freya Ridings!

But after some thought I thought it's not really a good song to send in the summer. Altho I personally love depressing songs in the sun (Lana teas) I know a lot of people aren't as into that and screwing myself over wouldn't be ideal!

Keep an eye out in September or so tho wink.gif

Haha no really, congrats on that big improvement from last contest! Oops at me possibly influencing you that time without then even entering the contest kink.gif But it's always your choice, y'know (that being said, Jade did randomly choose my entry once laugh.gif), and I'm sure you didn't merely send it for the video.
I haven't listened to this new entry yet but I guess I will do soon when I'm going through the final songs!

Posted by: Jüpiter Aug 27 2018, 06:02 PM

Well, as predicted we didn't do wonderfully position-wise in the 107 final (masterfully hosted by dandy, thanks superstar!), although we just about dodged the bottom 5 which is a slight jump!

We didn't pick up points at all from a lot of nations this time, which is a bit :/, but on the plus side, the points we did get were huge - 10s, a 12, a 15 and even an 18! We haven't got many of those in our country's history!

After going a bit into pop with this one we will be back with a bang with something a bit more outré - but still, we think, a bop - for 108 - yes, that's right folks, we actually know what we're sending in advance for once. Sorry Bré, you'll have to wait a bit longer for the folk one tongue.gif . Til then, amigos!

Posted by: Jüpiter Sep 11 2018, 05:29 PM

And we are back, without surveying out lovely fans and allies this month as we were sure from the off what we were sending. Our second Asian entry, but quite a change from the dance and k-pop sensibilities of Lower, VAVA brings a swagger to the 108th contest with her rap song incidentally subtitled My New Swag. Some of you might know her from Krewella collab New World - which is where I came across her, and then decided to see what else she'd done while I was checking out new Krewella recently. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1bvFSJJXmo)

The track blends rap with a bit of an old school vibe and traditional and modern Chinese instrumentation and an unusual vocal hook. It really goes off! Great video too inspired by Nadia Tehran and Bodak Yellow as well as again, traditional Chinese theatre performance. It's our third rap entry and fifth with some element of rap in it - maybe we are becoming a rap nation!

Tbh we in Jupiterdonia are really into this one and we hope it has decent appeal with certain other countries - we do have a few ideas of who else it might appeal to. Here's hoping we get put in the same semi!

Very happy to share this one on anyway this month though. So without further ado...get your swag on wink.gif

I don't know that, is it a show? Not that I even have a tv mind...

Posted by: Jüpiter Sep 25 2018, 06:27 PM

23rd in the final for Vava, not bad, we made it out of the 30s for the first time in a while in the main contest. Still, we had been hoping for a little higher after that semi hype...

Still, we picked up a lot of decent sized points, 10s, 11s, 8s and 9s, and one 18 again this time round! That was a great haul tbh

Strap in and fasten your seatbelts for something completely different next contest...original Jupiterdonia fans, hold onto your hats, we're going back to rock bloc in some shape or form!

A little late but 'My New Swag' was a fabulous entry, so here for Jupiterdonia rap picks <3 (not sure how it exists as I thought rap music was banned in China laugh.gif)

Your only eligible entries for YBO are up to Antonia if that makes picking any easier! If I were you I'd go with Tunde Olaniran or Brooke Candy ~ ('Yalla' would be a little too obvious tongue.gif)

For this edition we've sent a slice of J-rock with a slightly grungey, late 90s feel to it, from Monoral. Some of y'all might better know it as the theme to dystopic anime series Ergo Proxy - or have randomly discovered it on spotify, comme si, comme ēa. We're taking aim for rockbloc support for the first time as a nation since our very first proper entry from Smallpools over a year ago now, so hopefully will see some support there! In any case, this is one of glorious leader Jupiter's favourite songs and a decent replacement for the gothic ballad we originally wanted to send this month!

Another 20s result, 24th this time, not bad, but our original pick might have done a little better.

Not 100% sure yet what to send for the last one of the year, will we go dark and rocky again? We have a pop potential as well and might even try a dance anthem - although that went HORRIBLY for us last time. In any case, look out for two completely different directions from us in Unknown Pleasures and Halloween spinoff this month - the latter of which might get its own spooky post in the thread too wink.gif

And any thoughts on what you'd like to hear next from our glorious nation, do say! Is any voting bloc embracing or missing us? ohmy.gif

Posted by: M˙rtleSnow Nov 7 2018, 05:51 PM

So the finale of the year is nearly upon us and we are choosing direction...

What sounds most like something you want to discover, or hear from us, out of...

1) Back to our rap roots trashy upbeat rap song like Brooke Candy
2) Spanish rap girl bop
3) Wintry metal ballad following on our sound from 109

????

Posted by: Dob Geldof Nov 7 2018, 06:32 PM

Spanish rap bop sounds... emocionante!

Posted by: M˙rtleSnow Nov 16 2018, 08:50 PM

Maybe wishes do come true wink.gif

Posted by: M˙rtleSnow Nov 19 2018, 07:33 PM

Yes, Myrtle Snow has granted Dobbo's winter wish and sent to 110 our Spanish bop by rapper/hitmaker/tattoo artist Chilean chica Tomasa Del Real.

We were very tempted by the American rap track this month too but decided ultimately this has a better video and it's fun to promote a more unknown artist, plus, I did mean to send something Spanish this year and this was the last chance to do so.

Essentially this is a pretty fun rap/club song with some reggaeton elements, currently top tenning on my personals, with a great video with weave, twerk team and cars and explosions, because why not. Here in Jupiterdonia we're big fans, hopefully some of y'all will enjoy it too biggrin.gif And yes...Jupiterdonia rap nation confirmed oops :')

Posted by: M˙rtleSnow Jan 3 2019, 01:37 AM

Unfortunately after a cracking start and picking up a few fans Tomasa turned out to be a little of a dud pick closing the year 37th of 38 with what may be our worst result yet in a main contest ohmy.gif

Jupiterdonia fans will be pleased to note we'll be changing direction for the first contest of 2019 with a dance entry up our sleeves, and it's a bit of a throwback too. Hopefully that will do better for us than our last DNQ-ing foray - #Justice4https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExH9PDUEIpw!

Posted by: M˙rtleSnow Jan 9 2019, 07:31 AM

Hey folks, so, quick question. We have a song, and as is usual for dance songs, there's a long edit or a short edit. Would y'all prefer I send a 4 min short edit or 8 minute long club edit? xo

Posted by: dobbo Jan 9 2019, 12:51 PM

Always best to go with a full track in all its glory!

Posted by: M˙rtleSnow Jan 13 2019, 01:28 PM

Normally I prefer a shorter but I've gone for the long one this time! Cheers for the input biggrin.gif

Posted by: M˙rtleSnow Jan 21 2019, 08:12 PM

Hope your ears are ready! Yes, for this edition (111) Jupiterdonia is bringing you some suitably spacey classic trance from Nadia Ali and Tritonal, dating back to 2010 - nearly a decade ago, lord! Both names should be reasonably well known to dance fans. Nadia is of course one half of IIO, the early 00s dance collective that brought us the sublime https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRy8BU7DQjE - one I've actually not heard for a while, though it was a smash at the time and replayed a lot in the early 2010s - alongside a few other hits. (Actually, some of you might better know the https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbVxvITmwIc!) Nadia has nearly 20 years in the biz as a dance vocalist and has most lately been releasing as HYLLS - a new acoustic project, while Tritonal have swung more recently into the dance pop crossover zone, dipping a toe into commercial subs like tropical house. Ali has been sent before but I don't think has qualified, so here's hoping we buck the trend!

We're aware this is a slight departure from our usual remit as the first long song we've sent, but actually tbh, this is a rare case of the length being justified I would say. The build in this is really gorgeous and it's a great song either to just listen to or especially, in the Darude Sandstorm vein, to work out to. We're hoping as ever to pick up some fans and qualify in our semi - luckily managing to land with some other dancebloc allies might help us out! As ever, thoughts and comments happily received, a chat in the thread is always good to get going! x

Posted by: Bré Jan 21 2019, 09:19 PM

Nadia Ali was sent 3 times before but hasn't really had a hit yet (one DNQ, one that qualified and came last and one in a 'one big final' contest which finished bottom 10) - Tritonal also haven't had much luck as they've been entered twice before with both DNQing, the first of which was at the time one of the highest scoring songs in a semi-final to miss out magic.gif Best of luck outperforming that history. x

I am surprised to see you of all people sending such a long song based on some of your comments on plug, looking forward to hearing it.

Posted by: M˙rtleSnow Jan 28 2019, 10:46 PM

Well, thankyou Bre by the way!

Posted by: M˙rtleSnow Feb 10 2019, 02:12 AM

Well, we beat the low predictions and ended up back in the top half for the first time in a few contests now, coming overall 17th and picking up 3x top scores in the semi and two in the final! (very welcome)

Also getting some nice high scores from unexpected quarters (notably Jade) while also missing out on some of the dancebloc, oh well though, not everything is to everyone's taste!

Didn't vote for the overall winner but didn't think it was bad for the field, just tend to swing more towards acts I don't already know!

We've already picked our next entry and so will be back in the next edition with a more indie pop sound that we're hoping should have good crossover appeal! So look out for that.

And to bow out Nadia, here's the short(er) version of our entry this time - with, as you'll see, an absolutely godawful lyric video. tongue.gif

Posted by: Pėpé Le Pew Feb 20 2019, 12:38 PM

Stuck on what to send for the next one!

Y'all want an act that's been sent before who have a new sound now, or an act that's never been sent before - yet who have been active for a number of years? Both are in the indie-pop-rock spectrum?

I'm also considering a PC music-like instrumental, male vocal edm love song and a pure pop girl one with falsetto elements.

Posted by: dobbo Feb 20 2019, 12:57 PM

Haven't had a PC music sorta entry for a while now after there being one nigh-on guaranteed in every contest back in 16/17 so that could be cool.

Posted by: Codester X Feb 20 2019, 03:41 PM

Whatever you do end up deciding to send, I hope it’s as good as your last entry!

Another 24th isn't bad, but we'd like to do better! Back to something more poppy for 113 we think. Hopefully picking up some fans altho its not a flavour we've been for a while. Subject to veto of course, but our first try is pretty squarely pop with a slight folky-country twang to it like some of our recent faves inside & outside the site contests 😁

Very happy with that and glad you all enjoyed LÉON - including some unlikely fans!

We might genre switch up again next time but it was fun to send pop for once and also for something I really liked to do well for once biggrin.gif

Be sure to check out LÉON's album (just released) if you feel like seeing wjat more she has to offer!

For 114: tropical summery dance, or pop again? Thoughts? Likely both will be unknown to you guys (yes ik that's the point x)

Posted by: JüperTrouper May 4 2019, 01:36 AM

Ultimately it was pop again we went for with placeholder track What About Me from Whinnie Williams, a track that was a Jupiter fave last year and which some of you might've seen ending up in the Jupiterdonian 2018 top 100 tracks countdown.

Whinnie - real name Jade Williams, something some of you might find amusing - previously had a brief moment in the sun as Sunday Girl during which I vaguely feel she got Radio 1 support. I wasn't aware of that when I first came across this track mind. Similar to my last entry by LEON, What About Me has a retro sensibility and quite classical pop sound. In contrast to that song, this is a bit slower with an old-world girlband aesthetic to it, and a less dramatic - but I feel more artistic video. Tbh the artistry is a big slice of its appeal imo.

We're finally getting round to sending this great track after nearly doing so a few times last year, only to be taken with something else towards the end of the qualifying period. Hoping to continue our qualifying streak now, even with a fairly slow ballad by BJSC standards! Have a watch & listen below and if you like, please do give us points!

Posted by: TheJüpreme Jun 13 2019, 02:00 PM

Back to dance for 115 with ReOrder livening up Armin van Buuren's attempt at a pop song with Bonnie McKee. Lonely For You (ReOrder Remix) is exactly the kind of trance that's right up my street, hopefully this will return Jupiterdonia to Q status and the top half of the leaderboard! Its a tough semi tho so only time will tell.

If you like, please do throw some votes our way as it seems people still firget we won't qualify if you don't! tongue.gif

Here's the track, sadly without a video so get to doing something else while it's on! I find its a great workout/housework energizer wink.gif

Bonnie and Armin did ok getting us another placing in the 20s, but higher would be nice! We've gone for an upbeat foreign language track for 116, more info on that to come! Big thanks to those who gave us big points last time round biggrin.gif

Posted by: TheJüpreme Jul 22 2019, 04:10 PM

Yes, 116 sees us go pretty upbeat, Pridey & summery with Brazilian drag queen Gloria Groove's YoYo, featuring IZA. We haven't sent something so poppy in a while and decided to actually go with a queen this time after considering and changing our minds (and getting vetoed once) in the contest main. In many ways this is a spiritual successor to our Pride entry featuring Pabllo Vittar alongside Sofi Tukker.

Have a look and a listen and hopefully enjoy! & join us in plug later in the week for an encore!

Well, this has been a very mixed year total, after getting our highest place to date this year we've also since NQed twice in a row. For some reason y y'all didn't go for Brazilian drag or Romanian synthpop :')

So for 118 we'll be genre shifting again into either rock or dance, depending on which we're enjoying more when the deadline rolls around. Tbf, the last contest was very strong so we're not too salty about crashing out! But please do throw votes our way if you like the next one.

Also shout out to some of our favourites from the last few contests: Ingrid Michaelson, Wafia, Iveta Mukuchyan and Mahalia were fabulous discoveries!

Posted by: TheJüpreme Sep 19 2019, 10:06 PM

We went for rock! Or, metal, specifically! For the first time in a main contest I think, although I've sent several metal tracks to Nuggets now.

118 sees Jupiterdonia bringing you epic guitars, a mystical music video, slightly piratey instrumentation vibes and a sheer powerhouse vocal from Delain's Charlotte Wessels. Watch out for it, it's truly fantastic. The track, Masters of Destiny comes from Delain's latest project, released earlier this year, the latest in an over a decade long career which has seen them move in and out of several metal subgenres - and Charlotte to move between a rainbow of hair colours!

Who knows if we'll qualify - hasn't been great on that front lately, but we couldn't resist sending such an epic this month. Hopefully we will get some crossover support despite landing in a very pop semi!

Here's the track for a nice preview:

Please throw votes our way if you like - we're gonna need them! xo

Thanks to all the pluggers for the positive response!

BJSC 119

We really have been having no luck lately! 2019 has seen Jupiterdonia get both our highest placer in BJSC and also a string of NQs. We're going back to brand for Halloween season with something a bit odd and creepy from the lovely Nicole Dollanganger and we will just have to see how it does!

Thanks to all who voted and supported Delain last time, we were unlucky to miss out. It would be lovely if this was the one that broke our NQ streak but we are also aware that Nicole will be a bit of an acquired taste and possibly divisive due to being both creepy and slow :') but here's hoping. It's a seasonal track in any case we here in Lipstick are very happy to get a chance to share on with you all for 119

So here's a preview before we get to the plug session this week:

We're finishing up the year for 120 with one of my fave 2019 discoveries, a track that brings together queer, psychedelic and melodic vibes all in one, while featuring gorgeous camp aesthetics AND Ariel Pink (longtime fave) into the mix. This will be SSION's third entry into BJSC, most recently sent a few contests ago (Vulkyria in 101) with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLVWlaGFhXE I didn't really enjoy so much at the time but which I gained a new appreciation for after it was featured in Netflix's Tales of the City, another of my favourite discoveries this year.

Hoping this doesn't end up with the same ill fate as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKfMYbbWEJY this year! In any case the vibes of this are just gorgeous though and I'm glad I thought to send it! As ever, votes would be fab if you agree! Would be awesome to close out the year on a final biggrin.gif

And here tis:

Back to creepy and weird for 121 now with a slightly genre-hopping track from monster aesthete Jazmin Bean who we discovered towards the tail-end of 2019. This has topped my personal chart already and is perhaps one of Mx Bean's more accessible tracks. Bean is known for their weird and disturbing videos combining storybook and fairytale imagery with weaponds, blood and guts and in one case, a visit to the dentist with all the most horrible implications. I still can't watch that one. But the sound of their music is right up my street, blending metal and riot grrl with soft and mellow interludes. Fans of Poppy and Grimes' Play Destroy - and Grimes' new direction in general might enjoy.

Thankfully there's no horrible music video yet for this one, but for now here's the track - War Zone Urchin by Jazmin Bean. Hopefully we don't get lost in the shuffle and pick up some fans (& votes) for this contest edition!

122

Switching it up for this new edition with a disco song after a DNQ last time. Will this be the start of full pop nation Jupiterdonia for the new decade?? Here's the track; hope to pick up some fans this time wink.gif

Posted by: J00ps Mar 12 2020, 10:26 PM

Going pop worked out pretty well, scoring us our fourth highest placer to date and highest entry in a year since our top ten surprise success with LEON around this time last year.

Expect something else poppy for the next one! We'll be putting our thinking cap on tongue.gif

LOVE UR ENTRY THIS TIME X

Also fyi all this is our entry for 123 didn't post it here yet oops

Posted by: Dobbo Apr 3 2020, 11:23 AM

Yeah this was a highlight when I gave Semi 2 a spin.

Posted by: J00ps Apr 4 2020, 10:37 AM

Yay, thanks for qualifying us! We already have another housey one lined up for the next contest as well, prepare your ears! We think you'll enjoy that too if you liked this one.

Posted by: Coronarella Apr 4 2020, 01:58 PM

so glad you qualified!! wub.gif this to smash please.

Posted by: fl00zy* Apr 13 2020, 12:01 AM

2 14ths in a row weird! But we netted 3 18s with this one which is good for pride & got some new fans too. Another just like it ready for 124, here for a hat trick! Thanks voters biggrin.gif xoxo

Posted by: fl00zy* Apr 23 2020, 11:51 PM

Pending veto, we've got another great dance tune for you this month too, cmon hat trick.

And then maybe we'll switch onto something different come the next one, we have a few aussie indies calling out to us.

Posted by: fl00zy* May 3 2020, 09:28 PM

Yass for 124 I'm finally able to send an act I've been a fan of for ages with a track that's something of a return to form for them. Rebecca & Fiona are a pair of DJs and performers who started out in pure dance music, ventured into pop with varying degrees of success, and this year have come full circle.

Fet House Mode completes a three beat of house-infused tracks we've chosen to send thus far this year, and may be the end of that little experiment. Help us go out with a bang?

Previewing here in advance of plug:

Posted by: Dobbo May 9 2020, 03:18 PM

Quite wonderful music.gif let's hope this one goes even higher than 14th.

Posted by: J00psyMethyd May 18 2020, 06:36 AM

Yay, we qualified!

Ok, jumping the gun a bit here, but for the next one, do you want rock, pop rock, or synthwave-pop? We love to give the people what they want tongue.gif

Posted by: J00psyMethyd May 28 2020, 09:20 PM

Well, this worked out laugh.gif

Posted by: Dobbo May 29 2020, 09:49 AM

Many congrats on your first win cheer.gif what a brilliant track to do it with.

Posted by: ✖ leww ✖ May 31 2020, 09:46 AM

GREAT winner. well done babe!

Posted by: J00psyMethyd Jun 2 2020, 05:53 PM

We're hosting this one, and we're going back to the 80s with some synthwave!

Fair warning, I had thought that I'd push top 10 in the last one and aim for the win with this, so be prepared!

Posted by: J00psyMethyd Jun 9 2020, 07:47 PM

125

And here's our track for Jupiterdonia's own-hosted 125, my favourite thing I've yet heard from FM-84. Truly euphoric, with a video set to a classic 80s movie in the perfect youtube synthwave style.

Hope y'all enjoy hearing at the start of each semi! It's a grower wink.gif

Posted by: J00psyMethyd Jun 19 2020, 01:17 PM

Comments welcome xox

Posted by: J00psyMethyd Jun 28 2020, 11:18 PM

Predicted to win across the board, but FM-84 only managed 18th unfortunately! (Next time if you want us to win you need to give us big points!)

Fortunately, you'll get a chance soon as we come to bring you a classic pop rock track for 126 in the vein of HAIM! Ready your ears & voting fingers!

Posted by: Jade Jun 28 2020, 11:22 PM

Top 20 is of course solid but yeah FM-84 deserved top 10 at least </3 they can truly do no wrong *.* you're on a roll right now - 'Fet House Mode' last time was such a brilliant winner and my favourite Jupiterdonia offering to date heart.gif thanks for all your hosting efforts too, great job happy.gif

Posted by: ✖ leww ✖ Jun 28 2020, 11:24 PM

You were robbed!

Posted by: J00psyMethyd Jul 30 2020, 09:03 PM

After our own-hosted yellow brick road & witch-themed contest #125, we'll be returning to Oz for our next entry for 126...more details to follow....

Posted by: J00psyMethyd Jul 31 2020, 08:59 PM

...as we come to Jupiterdonia's first Australian entry. We're dropping a slice of summery bilingual pop rock courtesy of The Preatures with vox in English & indigenous language. Hope you like our shot for 126!

Posted by: Miss J00ps Sep 15 2020, 01:01 PM

For 128 we're thinking back to dance, probably!

Posted by: Miss J00ps Sep 28 2020, 07:45 PM

After a foiled first attempt we've launched The Subculture and Nikki Ambers' track Alive that very nearly topped our personal chart earlier this year. Its another classic sounding deep house track that hopefully goes down decently with the BJSCers today.

Let us know if you have thoughts on our 128 entry!

Posted by: Boo!piter Oct 28 2020, 12:28 PM

Dipping a toe into R&B for 129 with RILEY's BGE, big girl energy, self-love anthem.

Fitting for a FARC contest, maybe!

What kind of genre do yall want from us for the final contest of the year?

Potentials-wise we have dance, pop punk, chillout... even another kpop one, havent sent one of those in a while...

Well K-Pop has every potential to grab 18 points from me (and Cody), but go with the one you like the most I would x

Posted by: JSG Nov 15 2020, 02:12 PM

I'd go with your favourite j00p x

Posted by: Scr00ge Dec 3 2020, 02:08 PM

R&B failed last time, so for 130 we're going with...

more of the same, basically.

This is a gorgeous track I had to share though, a real step up aesthetically for Kali Uchis.

Fingers crossed some of yall enjoy it as much as I did :3

Greetings Jupiterdonia! hi.gif

Quite liking your latest entry, I thought it was a cover of another song at first, it sounded familiar, but I couldn’t match it to something else. I’m hoping this can bring you a qualification this month after the unjust DNQ last month. Good luck! cheer.gif

Posted by: jAddy! Mar 14 2021, 08:39 PM

I think it samples Britney's 'If U Seek Amy' lala la la la part

Posted by: J00prstar Mar 17 2021, 01:02 PM

Cheers crew!

Current entry for 133 for anyone curieux(se):

Who's the baddest of them all? We're back to something poppy for 135. Hope y'all enjoy wink.gif
