Nothing will come close to the excellence of Emmerdale tonight. The alternative characters, the little details, pictures blanked out, but especially the fantastic John Middleton giving the performance of a lifetime. This wasn't just great acting in a soap - just great acting. Period!

Posted by: JosephCarey Dec 20 2016, 08:29 PM

It was really superb, an outstanding episode which deserves to sweep up every award it's eligible for. John Middleton shone as always and the addition of the alternative characters was a great twist, it clicked with me not long before the reveal that the lady who took care of him had a striking resemblance to Laurel!

Posted by: Liаm Dec 20 2016, 08:48 PM

That has to win the single episode soap award, and John Middleton should easily win best actor. It was astoundingly done, all the small touches like the alternative versions of characters and the way that we saw their reflections so it showed that they were familiar people to Ashley who he was seeing differently.

Posted by: Santas Haz Dec 20 2016, 09:10 PM

It was amazingly well done I really want the guy who plays Ashley to win best actor and them to win best single episode amazing all round!

Posted by: Mikee1981 Dec 21 2016, 08:56 AM

I'm not usually an Emmerdale watcher(I've dipped in and out) but I had heard about this episode so watched it and it was so heartbreaking I was in bits, My Nanna is currently going through the stages of dementia and this insight into what she is going through really hit it home, its not just heartbreaking and distressing for us the family but also for her, we know she like Ashley showed is going back to things from the past that she recalls, she is going way back bout 60 years and suffering remembering miscarriages she had, my mum who is the main carer and has always been there with my nanna for years and years is suffering as being the one who is closest getting the abuse really, it kills me to see it but you really just have to be strong, this storyline and episode is really good and glad it is showing it in the way it is but that episode really blew my mind and was so brave of them to do it the way they did but was genius.

Posted by: jase. Dec 21 2016, 08:39 PM

I mean, I don't think I've ever seen anything like that done ever in any tv show or film? It was absolutely incredible and it deserves every single award going.

Posted by: liamk97 Dec 22 2016, 03:17 PM

I echo the sentiment that Tuesday's episode should be up for some awards! It was innovative and artsy but not at all pretentious; it really put you in Ashley's perspective and allowed you to gain some sort of understanding of dementia. It's quite challenging to do that in a "show, not tell" fashion and in a natural way, but it worked perfectly. The scenes with Ashley and 'Laurel' were highly emotional - even though it wasn't actual Laurel we were seeing, it had the same impact as if it was. There was a brief snippet of happiness at the end when Ashley recognised Laurel and the face we knew returned, until the inevitable happened and Ashley forgets and says "who's Laurel?". The look on her face said it all. It would be a rinse and repeat of this, getting progressively worse, until the end, and Laurel seemed to acknowledge the fact that the person she saw in front of her was no longer the Ashley she knew. Utterly heartbreaking stuff and I send huge praise to John Middleton and Charlotte Bellamy.

It feels like producer Iain MacLeod has taken the best elements of Hollyoaks and injected them into Emmerdale - the production and the perspective of that episode felt very much like a Hollyoaks idea, which is one of the few things I can praise that soap for at the moment.

Its lasted for nearly 10 years but the first Buzzjack thread for all things Emmerdale has reached the maximum 1,000 posts so its time to start anew with a second thread. It means the thread is finally created by a member that actually exists! laugh.gif

Lets see if we can get to those 1,000 posts quicker this time round and what better way to start with one of the most critically acclaimed soap episodes!

Posted by: liamk97 Dec 22 2016, 03:56 PM

I intend to start regularly watching Emmerdale again so, in turn, I hope to start coming to this thread more often! There's clearly a community of die-hard Emmerdale fans and casual fans alike, so it'll be great to see that thrive!

At work - its always 'did you see Emmerdale last night?' Not Corrie or EE - just Emmerdale - and this is people of all ages (actually mainly young people - I'm the oldest - I remember the days when the biggest drama was Jack, Joe and Matt not coming back early enough for Sunday lunch and Annie would get her corsets in a twist!)

It is a little ... what should we say? Why? Why - FTLOG - when Cain is there for the taking?

Posted by: liamk97 Dec 25 2016, 06:10 PM

"Oh because of the wishbone!" Loved that little reference to last Christmas! biggrin.gif

Posted by: jase. Dec 25 2016, 08:22 PM

I'm glad they didn't go down the extremely unrealistic route of Lisa falling back into Zak's arms just because he's finished with Joanie.

Seeing tiny glimpses of the old Ashley tonight was also absolutely lovely.

Posted by: liamk97 Dec 25 2016, 08:38 PM

I liked that too. I do like Zak and his relationship with Lisa was one of the most natural and genuine in soap, but you cannot condone his actions and Lisa was right to put him in his place. It would be completely preposterous for Lisa to take him back and, even if he didn't intend it to appear this way, it was selfish of Zak to just assume she would do and be able to put aside all the bad feeling he essentially put on her.

Posted by: jase. Dec 30 2016, 07:51 PM

I'm getting tired of Kerry's self-destructive ways. It doesn't seem like it's even leading to anything.. unsure.gif

I could honestly just watch a 30 minute episode of Jimmy and Nicola arguing. They're hilarious laugh.gif

Posted by: jase. Jan 3 2017, 10:41 PM

I wonder if it'll be just me talking to myself in this thread laugh.gif

I'm not sure where they're going with the whole Finn/Kasim thing unsure.gif

We all knew Lisa and Zak would end up back together and I'm still pissed Kate Oates split them up in the first place. They should have remained the Roy/Hayley + Mick/Linda of Soapland without the tacky affair nonsense.

Posted by: Liаm Jan 3 2017, 10:49 PM

I couldn't agree more about Zak and Lisa. I feel like I keep slagging off Kate Oates on here nowadays but it really does sum her up perfectly. Nothing is sacred, no golden couple, she'll just come in and make them have an affair because she has some sort of fetish for sensationalised affairs. It feels like Iain MacLeod is patching up the huge mistakes she made!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Jan 10 2017, 12:20 AM

Zak and Lisa should have never been split up, i would have understood if Zak simply kissed Joanie and realised his mistake but anything beyond that was stupid. I am sure Zak and Lisa will now get back together. Zak and Joanie never ever worked.

In general i thought Kate Oates did a good job on Emmerdale but Iain MacLeod is also doing a great job, he is doing previous stories justice but also fixing some of Kates mistakes, ie Zak and Lisa splitting and also Cain and Charity affair, i like how he has brought this almost full circle in getting the couples closer to each other. The work on the Ashley storyline is immense, both producers deserve credit here and the acting and scripts are superb for this storyline. I think this is been one of the best handled storylines in soap (any soap) for a very very long time and i really hope Ashley dies naturally as anything else would be an injustice to the fantastic work so far.

Posted by: jase. Mar 7 2017, 09:19 PM

Anybody watching?

It's good at the minute. Aaron's prison ordeal is absolutely harrowing to watch but Danny, as always, is playing it to perfection.

I'm struggling to find an episode where Charity appears when she doesn't make me piss myself laughing rotf.gif

Posted by: JosephSharman Mar 7 2017, 11:14 PM

The Aaron storyline is being handled incredibly well, tough viewing but all involved are doing a top notch job.

Charity is EVERYTHING, her and Chas make the most fantastic double act.

Posted by: jase. Mar 17 2017, 10:25 PM

I seriously just can't with the mess that is Rob cheating on Aaron thing ALREADY. Yes, we get he's hurt and mad with the whole Aaron using drugs thing but I seriously thought we were past the whole affair bullshit. The amount of time they've spent developing Robert's character over the past few months, only for him to be all "I'm gonna f*** Rebecca because Aaron hurt my feelings!!!111" is absolutely ludacris and I'm glad there's been a slight uproar over it. I read an article over on DS that one of Emmerdale's storyliners has quit Twitter because of the backlash they were receiving.

Posted by: liamk97 Mar 18 2017, 11:56 PM

I think it's a shame the storyliner felt he had to quit Twitter. Agree or not, he was answering fans' comments and put his explanation across well.

Posted by: pippa Mar 22 2017, 04:35 PM

Robert cheating was a huge mistake by the storyliners. They really built the couple up and for him to cheat so much just weakens everything that has happened prior to this.

But apparently "the course of true love never runs smoothly" according to Emmerdale rolleyes.gif

Posted by: pippa Mar 29 2017, 07:40 PM

They had enough to derail them with Aaron going to jail and turning to drugs. Keeping the storyline to this would create problems and show them working through it, the cheating is just so lazy when they had so much else to work on. That aside Emmerdale is still by far the best soap at the moment, there is plenty going on and it has a good dynamic. The Ashley storyline i have to say has been incredibly well done. They have to win a few awards for this at the next Soap Awards.

Posted by: JosephStyles Mar 29 2017, 07:51 PM

Tonight's episode was fantastic. The Ashley storyline continues to be top notch, and the Carly/Marlon/April and Faith/Chas scenes were really great too. Emmerdale is definitely my favourite soap right now, the most consistent one too!

Posted by: Same Ol' Andrew Mar 29 2017, 08:27 PM

Not really enjoying this atm. The Ashley/Laurel storyline is of course incredibly portrayed (next week will be heartbreaking </3) but nothing else is really grabbing me and I can't stand Robert or Aaron so that doesn't help (although some things about them are nice *.*)

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Mar 29 2017, 10:27 PM

Im really enjoying Emmerdale and have been for some time now. I like most of the storylines going on at the moment but not sure about Cain and Harriot. I fully agree about the Ashley storyline it is been handled and portrayed flawlessly. Carly i did like for a while but i find any one that generally hooks up with Marlon ends up been boring or annoying and thats when i went off her, it was the same with Laurel, i did not like her when with Marlon but got to love her again when with Ashely.

I really like the Pearse and Rhona storyline aswell.

Posted by: Liаm Mar 29 2017, 10:30 PM

I'm glad I'm not the only one who can't stand Robron laugh.gif

As a couple I mean, I love Aaron as a character.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Mar 30 2017, 01:50 AM

I dont love love or hate Robron, whats good is i do think they work together but they are also great characters as individuals.

Posted by: jase. Mar 30 2017, 09:28 PM

I really, really hope Charlotte Bellamy and John Middleton win something at the Soap Awards. They've both been absolutely phenomenal throughout this dementia storyline.

Posted by: pippa Mar 31 2017, 12:53 PM

They deserve best on screen partnership.
John especially deserves to win best actor and Charlotte best actress.

The actual storyline just has to win best storyline.

Last nights episodes, you can just feel the heartbreak coming in the episodes next week.

I'm really not ready for how gutwrenchingly heartbreaking it's going to be. I normally watch Emmerdale with my mother but I think I'll have to watch Friday's episode alone because I'm sure I'll end up bawling like a baby laugh.gif

Posted by: pippa Apr 3 2017, 02:55 PM

I have every confidence that they will have many a person in tears with the episodes, i have shed a tear or two on this storyline already.

The Faith storyline is also interesting, i thought her scenes were Moira were also very moving.

Posted by: Lieowstic Apr 3 2017, 02:59 PM

Apparently Lawrence and Emma are leaving, there's been a report Lachlan murders them both and possibly others, it's been described as a "bloodbath" in the run up to Christmas

Posted by: pippa Apr 3 2017, 04:57 PM

If true they will get great exits.

Posted by: jase. Apr 3 2017, 07:29 PM

Wow ohmy.gif Apparently John Bowe (Lawrence) isn't happy about it at all!

No spoilers, this is a totally random prediction regarding Ashley's death - but I think he'll recognize Laurel one last time before slipping away cry.gif cry.gif

Posted by: pippa Apr 4 2017, 02:25 PM

It would be wonderful if your prediction is correct Jase as it would be lovely for Laurel.

I'M PSYCHIC laugh.gif It was revealed today that it's going to happen! Ian MacLeod, John Middleton and Charlotte Bellamy were talking to press and confirmed it, saying it'll be the first time he's recognized her since November, and how it's not sensationalist and apparently quite a common occurance with dementia patients who are nearing the end.

Posted by: jase. Apr 6 2017, 10:15 PM

Marlon and Gabby saying goodbye to Ashley.. cry.gif cry.gif

I am seriously not ready for tomorrow's episode. It could even top Hayley's (Corrie) death for me in terms of emotional impact.

Posted by: JosephStyles🐶 Apr 7 2017, 06:31 PM

A beautiful exit for Ashley, incredibly moving and I definitely shed a few tears. Ashley's one of the best characters they've had and he'll be sorely missed cry.gif

Posted by: jase. Apr 7 2017, 06:37 PM

"Laurel."

cry.gif Brb, I'll be back when I can function properly.

Posted by: Harry♀ Apr 7 2017, 06:55 PM

Was a lovely exit for Ashley him remembering Laurel was perfect cry.gif

Posted by: pippa Apr 10 2017, 04:45 PM

I have championed this storyline, the script writing and performances the whole way through but I was very disappointed with the final scenes. The Marlon “nonsense” was awful. I am unsure if the having the whole “friends” around worked as I felt it should have been a family moment and I was disappointed neither Sandy or his kids or Laurel were actually with him when he died. I found it baffling about Laurel and the pillow as I was nearly screaming at the TV saying “don’t leave him to die on his own”.

While it was a beautiful moment when he remembered Laurels name I feel if Laurel, Sandy, and his children were at his bedside when he died it would have been far more of a touching end.

The actors delivered the scenes they had very well but sadly I think the scriptwriters slightly got his final scenes wrong which is a massive shame as outside of this the storyline was excellent.

Posted by: Lieowstic🐱 Apr 10 2017, 05:44 PM

I agree pippa, glad I'm not the only one! The fact he said Laurel and remembered her was still heartbreaking but I think it should have just been the family, it was a bit eh that the whole village was there and he slipped off when Laurel went to get a pillow. I sort of felt "is that it?" which I know sounds awful but that's how I can best describe how I felt laugh.gif

Posted by: RosaParksMyCar Apr 10 2017, 06:19 PM

Aaron os the worst character in soap right now.

Posted by: Lieowstic🐱 Apr 10 2017, 06:23 PM

The girl who played Carli in The Inbetweeners is worse laugh.gif

Posted by: pippa Apr 10 2017, 07:15 PM

Danny who plays Aaron is a good actor but i must say the repetitive crying scenes he does have been used to often, he does this exactly the same each time.

I too, am happy that others feel the same, Lieowstic. I hated having to say those comments as i have been in awe of this storyline, but the final scenes gave me a slight reminder of why until recently i was never a huge fan of the show in the way i was of other soaps. At the moment it is the best soap by far but they need to slightly improve on the conclusions to storylines. That said, i will be so disappointed if this storyline isnt the runaway winner at the Soap Awards this year.

Posted by: RosaParksMyCar Apr 10 2017, 08:43 PM

How hot is Ross tho

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Apr 10 2017, 11:20 PM

I didnt like Ashleys final scenes either as i think it took away from what was actually happening. Like others have said i think it should have just been the family with him as the scenes would have been more hard hitting, there was far too many unnecessary distractions.

Posted by: JosephStyles🐶 Apr 13 2017, 07:30 PM

It's not often a TV show will bring me to tears but Emmerdale has managed it twice in a week :') that dream sequence with Laurel was a fantastic touch and perfectly executed, incredibly emotional heart.gif they deserve all the awards they can get for this storyline.

Posted by: RosaParksMyCar Apr 13 2017, 08:25 PM

Now Ashley is out of the way Laurel should get her some Ross D.

Posted by: pippa Apr 14 2017, 06:01 PM

I would hope they don't put Laurel with Marlon again as that simply did not work. I have a suspicion Laurels alcohol addiction will come back in the storylines now.

Posted by: jase. Apr 14 2017, 11:04 PM

Ashley's death moved me to tears...his funeral was even WORSE. My f***ing GOD. cry.gif

Posted by: Lieowstic🐱 Apr 18 2017, 12:38 PM

Charlotte Bellamy and John Middleton have of course been longlisted at the soap awards, along with Danny Miller and Matthew Wolfenden for Best Actor and Zoe Henry and Natalie J Robb for Best Actress. Of course Charlotte should have this in the bag but I think it might be Kym Marsh from Corrie or Lacey Turner from EE. Surely there is no way John can lose best actor though!

Charlotte certainly has tougher competition than John, Both should win hands down but it will be much harder for Charlotte. Lacey Turner in particular has a massive following and i do rate her a fantastic actress but due to rubbish scripts in EastEnders she has very little to work with. In contrast, Charlotte has had wonderful scripts and she was faultless in her portrayal.

The last few episodes have been painful. Megan and Jai bickering over their kid which we've seen a million times before, cownapping...and the chav guys with hideous accents who are about as intimidating as a pair of bananas running around the villiage terrorizing everybody? laugh.gif

The one highlight? Charity's impersonation of Moira rotf.gif rotf.gif rotf.gif

I die inside a little every time whenever Laila/Pete/Priya are on screen.

Posted by: Liаm Dec 25 2017, 07:59 PM

They could have done that as like an extra episode on CHristmas Eve but it was really disappointing as the actual Christmas episode, very odd. Emmerdale usually does quite well with experimental or unusual stuff (like the flashback episodes when Robert got shot and we found out who killed Emma, as well as the one where they briefly recast actors and made us feel how Ashley felt in his dementia) but that was just... odd.

Startred watching Emmerdale more reguarly now. Poor Brenda. She is going to do something really silly now. Gone right off Laurel this past while back.
Plus why is she moaning that it's too cold outside in the snow for baby Dotty, yet the baby has no hat on!

Posted by: _jase Apr 3 2018, 10:33 PM

Brenda's a pain in the arse. Laurel's amazing.

More violence on Emmerdale...

Not sure if that's a good thing.

Posted by: _jase Apr 6 2018, 02:48 PM

It's a bit silly. Cain dressed/acting like Dexter a couple of weeks back was absolutely bloody ridiculous rotf.gif

Posted by: jjake Apr 6 2018, 03:07 PM

i find emmerdale a bit on the boil at the moment...there’s too much going on and it’s getting a bit ridiculous with the amount of storylines and sub-storylines

the kidnap for 100 grand last night is a good example of that

Posted by: _jase Apr 6 2018, 07:00 PM

It's extremely easy to get money in soapland! Didn't Robert burn £100k to prove his love for Aaron a while back? laugh.gif

Posted by: Liаm Apr 6 2018, 07:04 PM

When will Mick and Linda?

I know it's not gonna be totally realistic but it is kinda ridiculous when in any soap hostage situation they can clobber together thousands and thousands of pounds like nothing, yet in normal situations mere days before for the sake of a storyline they're penniless.

Posted by: Liаm Apr 10 2018, 07:05 PM

emmerdale has hit a bit of a lull for me at the moment...I have a strong feeling Debbie isn't going to be punished for her role in the acid attack (which is probably one of the worst handled storylines ever) which after her getting away with Gennie would be ridiculous :')

Brenda tonight *.*

This focus on Dan/Daz is so tiresome drama.gif

Return confirmed for Hannah Barton, who has transitioned in her time away from the village and is now Matty, so Emmerdale have cast their first transgender regular with Ash Palmisciano taking over the role! biggrin.gif

Nice twist and a good explanation for keeping away from home!

Yeah it’s definately the best storyline by a mile atm, I love how they’re making it realistic and not having Moira adapt to it overnight and the Matty actor is really good!!

Posted by: pippa Jul 13 2018, 06:26 PM

I totally agree, the storyline is working wonderfully so far.

Nooooooo not Rebecca sad.gif her and Ross (and maybe Matty) were the only things even watchable tonight.

Why do I get shades of the Phelan storyline with Lachlan?

Posted by: pippa Jul 31 2018, 12:25 PM

It has all the indications that it will.
That said, i do think Rebecca will survive and that is how he will be found out.
I look forward to Dianne and Pollard having to apologise to poor Doug, as they have treated him terribly since Gerry died.

Posted by: Jαsє Jul 31 2018, 07:01 PM

Thomas Atkinson (guy who plays Lachlan) has said his storyline will run until the autumn so I'm intrigued to see what happens with Rebecca because she's obviously not going to be held captive for months laugh.gif

Posted by: Andrew. Jul 31 2018, 07:52 PM

Thomas Atkinson is incredible, you totally beielve Lachlan is a psychopath.

Was still brilliant TV though, I was on the edge of my seat!! I feel quite differently about Lachlan than I did with Phelan - I feel like Lachlan is more mentally unhinged than just a cold-blooded killer. I guess it was the only way out for Rebecca if this is to go on until October.

Lachlan is played spectacularly and I’d take him over Phelan but there was no need to do this with Rebecca, I have a small hope she’s alive but I guess that’s not likely. She had buckets of potential and it’s sll wasted while characters like Dan and Lydia are at the forefront of the show sad.gif Emmerdale’s obsession with October is tiring anyway tbh, the storyline doesn’t need to be dragged out this long. The amount of murders would make Hollyoaks blush lnaooo, we’ve had Rebecca, Gerry, the fake uncle, Lawrence, Chrissie, Finn, Emma and James in the last two years and there’s surely more to come shortly. I wouldn’t mind that as such if there was good humour and storylines apart from those, but all the ‘hunour’ is so shoehorned. As you said though, Lachlan is gripping and he’s the best thing about the show so idek laugh.gif

I was feeling sympathetic for Rebecca and didn't want her to die, although if she does survive all we'll be subjected to upon her return is a custody battle with Robert and Aaron or something, it's a bit circular laugh.gif

I guess Emmerdale's obsession with October is no different to EastEnders' obsession with Christmas, soaps like to have a special week in the year where a big storyline reaches its climax (Corrie has BGT week too). It just makes for event television magic.gif

I don't think Emmerdale's bad at all though aside from the Lachlan storyline. Dan isn't the best character going but I can tolerate him and I've actually really warmed to Lydia - I can only see that going further as the cancer storyline develops. I think it helps that I find most characters in the show pretty likeable actually, so even in the "filler" sort of storylines, I can still find some enjoyment (ie. most of Jimmy and Nicola's scenes lol).

It’s not awful at the moment, it was worse in spring but it’s just all a bit bleak and lifeless. I like a lot of characters but I don’t think many are fulfilling their potential. A fairly small thing that’s also bugged me is the lack of rural imagery and scenes, Under others there’s been a lot and as recently as Kate Oates that was the USP of the show but now it’s just another soap. And too many kids, it’s like a mini version of Hollyoaks there’s like 50 of them omg

Poor Matty sad.gif the sad thing is that’s probably how a lot of people would act. I’m really enjoying this storyline, I was worried they’d sensationalise it like Hollyoaks did with Sally being John Paul’s father (although they do a good job with her now) but it’s been done incredibly!

Posted by: JosephAvery Aug 21 2018, 09:46 PM

I agree, they've been working wonders with the Matty storyline. I liked what Entertainment Daily said about it recently (mostly in an http://www.entertainmentdaily.co.uk/soaps/emmerdale/opinion-soaps-need-more-characters-like-emmerdales-ryan-stocks/ but Matty got a notable mention too) - whilst the fact he's transgender is common knowledge and the basis of many of his storylines, it's not his *only* attribute. The women of Emmerdale will take the reigns next year for a one-off special, celebrating International Women's Day.

Executive producer Jane Hudson said the show would follow other landmark broadcasts from the ITV soap, including a flashback episode around a character being abused as a child, and another shown from the perspective of a dementia sufferer.

The episode will air on March 8 next year to mark the global event honouring women’s rights, as the programme has two female producers and a female executive producer.

Teasing the upcoming episode, Jane said the team working on the show would all be women, including the background artists.

The episode was watchable, but (omg i'ma sound like such a moaner) tbh it didn't feel special to me as we've had so much of this flashback/non-linear stuff since Kate Oates left. The actors and writing should be able to tell the storyline on their own, it shouldn't need gimmicks. Emmerdale has really become like Hollyoaks, I get shows change but it feels so different right now and not in a good way sad.gif

Posted by: pippa Oct 10 2018, 02:05 PM

It was deflating although i would believe Kim will be making her full mark in tonight and tomorrow nights episodes.

Posted by: HannibalLetcher Oct 11 2018, 09:11 AM

Last night's episode that was so much better. Welcome back Kim.

Posted by: Liаm Oct 11 2018, 06:35 PM

I'm finding it very one dimensional, Kim was obviously known as a villain and iconic soap bitch but it's bordering on panto villain... It was great for the first episode or so but I'm just wondering what was even the point, unless she actually came back and took Home Farm and had a proper huge storyline.

Posted by: HannibalLetcher Oct 11 2018, 10:05 PM

Very disappointed by tonight's two parter. Expected more.

Posted by: liamk97 Oct 11 2018, 11:12 PM

Kim was always witty and had clever dialogue but I think the writers got a bit too carried away. Like someone on Walford Web said, it was more like Sadie King, which worked for her but not for Kim.

It's worth watching the episode of Frank Tate's death and Kim's 1999 exit. You see can see Kim is capable of evil and there's camp moments, but it's done in a nuanced way and the dialogue isn't delivered in a way that makes it seem she's on a stage in a pantomime. I think the Kim vs. Charity stuff was fine but I don't think it was necessary to have Kim making comments to everyone else. The original Kim wouldn't have been that petty to people she didn't know, I don't think, and it's worth remembering Kim did fit into the everyday village life. Don't think you could see this Kim sitting down in the cafe or having a drink in the pub.

I don't think the character is ruined or anything though. If Kim does return for another stint next year that is more lengthy, they just need to tone it down a bit and not have every Kim scene as these intense camp moments.

I think the main distraction was that it felt like Claire King's Corrie character Erica playing Kim Tate. The writing during 'dramatic' moments under Stuart Blackburn's Corrie felt very showy and panto so hearing Claire deliver a camp line every time she spoke reminded me of that. Got to admit, they did get her look right. It felt like I was looking at Kim Tate and not Erica.

Posted by: Liаm Oct 12 2018, 06:34 PM

Kim's back full time next year after her stint in prison! *.*

I'm glad, I think/hope they can fully develop her better then. This week felt kind of pointless but as such an iconic character there is more to do with her, I thought they couldn't leave it like that! Tonight felt a bit more like the real Kim rather than the panto villain so hopefully they develop on that.

Posted by: liamk97 Oct 12 2018, 07:47 PM

Haven't watched tonight’s but I'm glad Kim is coming back. The writers may have got a bit excited to write for Kim this week but I think it will be more nuanced next year if she is to fit into village life.

Exit confirmed for Lisa Dingle. In tonight's episode it was revealed that the character has been diagnosed with a terminal heart condition.

Pretty big news, it's like an end of an era. Emmerdale don't quite have the cultural impacting characters like Eastenders and Corrie do but, for a lot of fans, this character has been a constant player on the show and will be widely recognised and associated with Emmerdale.

I’m hoping this coming weeks episodes isn’t the last we see of Maya.

I definitely don’t think she’s dead though.

I have a feeling Maya might end up returning pregnant in around autumn time with her exit being a jail type ending and the baby possibly being given to Aaron and Robert as part of their storyline.

That could possibly work or she will lie about a pregnancy and get found out.

I wouldn't have pegged Victoria as a highlight of the week before it aired but Isabelle Hodgins has been brilliant!

Posted by: Andrew. May 10 2019, 04:39 PM

Victoria's rape has been done really well, and yeah Isobel really showed off her talent there. The 'big night out' has been really good tbh and got me hooked on this again!!

Of course though, according to the sun (who are normally spot on with the ITV soaps) Victoria will be pregnant and will give her baby to Aaron/Robert mellow.gif Another misogynistic twist to give the golden couple a baby drama.gif

I won’t say who in this thread but it’s on Twitter if anyone wants to know.

Yeah definitely, I didn't really think about it until the Soap Awards but it was telling that they didn't win anything except Lucy's Best Actress from the viewers. It's certainly not terrible, but I feel like it's just consistently "good enough", probably the most consistent of any soap, but it very rarely has the highs. Like, if I miss an episode then I'm not that bothered but I don't begrudge watching it, it doesn't feel like a chore.

There’s no plausible way they’d split them up and there’s no chance that Aaron will leave for them to leave together.

But at the same time Roberts like a legacy character. It’ll be interesting to see what they do but they’ll have to split them

There's no way they'll kill off such a popular legacy character.

And off course they can plausibly split up. Robert's head turns for anything - lets be honest deep down he still a manipulator who's out for what he can get. Even in the new year with the plot with Nicola. He hasn't changed.

Posted by: Liаm Jul 21 2019, 04:21 PM

The whole "Liam is a murderer" but actually he does murder mystery nights saga was absolutely embarrassing, the show has been lowkey terrible for a while now which is odd because it's nearly always been so consistent, I'd argue it's the worst soap atm :/

Posted by: pippa Jul 22 2019, 08:43 PM

The standard has slipped extensively in the last few months on Emmerdale.
Jessie and her storylines with her sons do not work, and Jessie and Marlon have zero on screen chemistry.
I don't associate Jessie and Marlon as a couple when watching the show let alone husband and wife.
Diane is also going round in circles in terms of the same storyline of selling up and moving.
Kerry, Dan and Amy are further snore-fest storylines all on repeat.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Jul 25 2019, 07:21 PM

Is the upcoming fire storyline likely to be

Gaynor Faye’s final scenes as Megan.

There’s a death being teased and I feel she could be in the factory with nobody knowing she’s there. A bit like Rana in CS.

Tracy is seen trapped in the trailer but if they were gonna kill her I don’t think they’d have shown that or announced her involvement in the story.

With Megan though there’s nothing to suggest she’s gonna be there which makes me feel she will be. Perhaps she thinks her and Jais daughter is in there or something like that?

Posted by: pippa Jul 30 2019, 02:13 PM

They really should have taken the option to kill of a few characters as there is a few now who arent adding to the show.

They need to drop one of the Tuesday or Thursday episodes in my opinion.

It’s definitely not as strong as it can be but I still as a whole think it’s better than Coronation Street.

It also appears that Jessie appears to have quit and is set to leave.

Faith is feeling sort of overused at the moment but I do love her. When I watched some of last weeks episodes back though there was one where it felt she was literally in every single scene.

The factory saga too felt like a let down much like CS factory story. They could’ve gotten rid of some deadwood character or gave a character some sort of injury what could provide a storyline.

I’m hoping Priyas eating disorder story continues to be revisited as a few weeks ago it provided some great scenes.

Posted by: pippa Aug 21 2019, 07:26 PM

The exit is welcomed as the partnership never worked, there was Zero on screen chemistry.

Posted by: Liаm Sep 11 2019, 12:14 PM

People have been fired from TV for less (well maybe not less but old mistakes - see Shila Iqbal in this, Chris Fountain in Corrie). Quite convenient that Jessie is leaving too, they can easily just write him out off-screen as going to follow Jessie if need be.

Posted by: Jαsє Sep 11 2019, 12:45 PM

If he's screaming how he's gonna knife somebody then ITV need to fire his ass immediately. Wtf

Posted by: Liаm Sep 11 2019, 01:36 PM

Yep he's just been fired, his contract has been terminated "with immediate effect"!

Posted by: Jordan Lee Sep 11 2019, 01:39 PM

The Mirror have said Emmerdale have sacked him.

Probably deserved but it’s a shame as it’ll probably hang over him for a long while and it means he’s probably unlikely to get acting work for a long while now.

It’s a shame CBB isn’t running as he could’ve been a candidate for the January season of that they love a controversial ex soap star.

Recast for the character likely?

Also with immediate effect does that mean he’s still gonna appear on screen with scenes he’s already filmed but his exit will just be an off screen one which he won’t get the chance to film.

Yeah, I assume it means they'll air whatever he's filmed but nothing after that, so he'll just get a rushed off-screen exit (with Shila Iqbal's character, they just had Manpreet being like "she got a job in Ibiza".

Shame as I liked Ellis as a character plus Asan is hot.

But yeah given the nature of what happened, he had to be sacked

Posted by: pippa Sep 11 2019, 08:57 PM

A recast would be the best option as his Father was introduced for a big storyline.
That said, before the arrival of his father they were an extremely boring family that i had no interest in.

Posted by: Jαsє Sep 11 2019, 09:30 PM

The entire family have been nothing but dull ever since they arrived. Get rid of them all.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Sep 12 2019, 01:27 AM

I agree they just dont work at all, I never liked Marlon either and all them tied together makes it even more dull.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Sep 13 2019, 11:15 AM

Marlon made me laugh last night when he bopped Als nose laugh.gif

Don’t know how I’m feeling with Mandy coming back though especially as it’s full time this time around (well she said on a backstage video she’s been on set for 7 weeks).

I can’t see Lisa Riley committing more than just a year / 18 months though.

Posted by: Liаm Sep 16 2019, 11:25 PM

I don't mind Billy, I think he's the only one who has actually fit in and kind of works, he was in with the factory lot and he's got a budding relationship with Dawn, idk it's ujust if you compare him to Ellis who basically had about a week with Victoria, he's integrated so much better and will be fine without the family, whereas Ellis you'd barely notice if they did just write him out and not say, if this whole thing didn't happen laugh.gif Jessie was just terrible pretty much the whole time and being tied to Marlon didn't help that at all.

This kind of makes Al pointless now too without either his ex-wife or son but I guess he's got his businesses and connection to Kim.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Sep 19 2019, 11:23 PM

I’m still a bit sad we had a Rachel death off screen.

I’m not a fan of characters being killed off screen even when it’s characters like Rachel. I still feel prison would’ve perhaps been a bit more realistic like maybe she was abusing a new boyfriend or something idk but killing off two members of the same family off screen!

Al seems an interesting character so far he’s definitely watchable and I like the smugness he’s bringing tbh. He’s more watchable at this point of his arc on the show than Jessie and Ellis. Him and Billy are the best from that family tbh I kind of wish now that he was actually Billy’s dad and not Ellis’s it might’ve worked better for the story too now given what’s happened off screen.

Mandy Dingle I hope is toned down though but she can only work with what’s given to her and at the minute that isn’t that much tbh. How old is her son supposed to be though?

Also I loved the Kim Tate scenes tonight and Graham’s scenes too.

Posted by: Liаm Sep 19 2019, 11:40 PM

That family is ridiculously cursed, Ali in the car crash off screen, Ruby in the helicopter crash thing at Debbie and Pete's wedding and now Rachel from a random heart condition - poor Amelia must be bricking it laugh.gif

Posted by: Jordan Lee Sep 19 2019, 11:56 PM

At least Ruby had an on screen death though laugh.gif

Tbh Dan and Amelia are like spare parts on the show now. He’s sort of like Emmerdales version of Kirk from CS and at the time Kerry was like the Beth of the show.

He’s one character who feels like has come to a natural sort of end though and I don’t feel many would really notice or miss him if he were to go. But not necessarily kill him off just take him and Amelia and move them on screen maybe he could work in Debbies garage in Scotland laugh.gif

With off screen deaths do they just go ahead and do it or do they get the blessing of the actor / actress who played them. It’s a bit of a tricky situation tbh I’d hate to be killed off screen I’d even offer to go back and film a brief cameo with a last minute death scene then get the old phone call of so and so has died. I’d be majorly wound up tbh. Either kill them on screen or not at all.

Realistically the only time I think it’s plausible is when an elderly character leaves the show (alive) and then the real life actor passes away or when the actor themselves dies as there’s no way they could’ve come back. For instance with Emmerdale I’d only really accept it willingly had it been for the character of Sandy Thomas.

Posted by: pippa Oct 4 2019, 03:04 PM

Is Kerry leaving the show, i don't see how the character can really stay on the show after the Frank storyline, but, if she does get killed off over what happened with Tracey, it could see an exit for both characters.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Oct 4 2019, 03:18 PM

I can see a blackmail story happening.

Amy will keep quiet over what happened to Kerry if Tracey keeps quiet over what happened to Frank.

But Kerry I feel has sort of run her course as a character tbh and if she was to leave there’s always a chance she could come back if they don’t kill her off and she just gets jail.

Posted by: pippa Oct 4 2019, 05:34 PM

The blackmail plot could work to keep both in the show.
That said, Tracey and Kerry both feel like characters that have come to a natural end.

Posted by: Mack. Oct 16 2019, 03:52 PM

Leah Bracknell who played Zoe Tate has died aged 55 three years after being diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer.

Sad day in the world of soap. She played that character very well.

I liked her character a lot when watching clips of the time she was in the show. I was like ten when she left on screen but her exit was so so good!!

I'd happily lose Moira - a once great character, but this last year she has been kinda awful.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Oct 21 2019, 10:52 AM

Moiras turned into a complete hypocrite tbh but then again I don’t feel much sympathy for Cain because he’s done so much crap to others and gotten away with it time and time again it’s about time someone does something what Will hurt him

Posted by: pippa Oct 21 2019, 03:42 PM

I am almost convinced Moira will die this week.
The character is destroyed in the last year and a half.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Oct 21 2019, 03:48 PM

Id be stunned if she did die and they’d mananged to keep it under wraps.

She’s a major character and it would definitely have a massive impact.

I kind of feel if it’s her it might’ve leaked though but props to ED if it genuinely is her exit.

I have her down as being one of Emmerdales lifers now and she’d only leave if she chose to leave but I think they’d try to not kill her off so soon after we just lost Lisa Dingle.

If Moria dies it could be the reason for petes exit and faiths exit too perhaps?

Posted by: pippa Oct 21 2019, 04:26 PM

If she dies, i would believe her departure was down to her own choice as the show bosses always give her fore front of the show storylines.
Splitting Cain and Moira up is not good if Moira does stay, they could have progressed with so many more storylines for them as a couple.
The connection between Nate and Cain has me curious, i think it will be his son from an old relationship.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Oct 22 2019, 08:39 PM

Posted by: pippa Oct 24 2019, 03:01 PM

The Cain, Moira and Nate scenes deserved more air time during the episodes as it was gripping to watch.
Much of the other material mixed through the episode wasn't interesting as i just wanted the episode to stay with Cain, Moira and Nate.

Posted by: Medellíam Nov 20 2019, 12:06 AM

I gave up watching Emmerdale a while ago but this new twist of Maya being pregnant is a new low. Even if it turns out not to be Jacob's (which I'm guessing it's not) it's a gross 'shock twist'. This whole storyline has been handled disgustingly from what I've seen and heard from spoilers.

Posted by: Liаm Nov 20 2019, 01:12 AM

WHAT!!! rotf.gif

Good god this program is really going to the dogs.

Posted by: Medellíam Nov 20 2019, 02:15 PM

There's not even plans for Maya to return - those scenes were filmed back when she was still in it previously. It's just a cheap, nasty twist with no intention on being followed up.

Posted by: pippa Nov 20 2019, 07:39 PM

I dont see them leaving it at this, Maya will be back with Baby.

I'm sure it'll be picked up in the future but there's no current plans which means it is just shock for the sake of it. A child grooming storyline is meant to be handled sensitively and the victim's perspective should be the main focus and they've neglected this a lot.

Posted by: pippa Nov 20 2019, 10:06 PM

I felt the storyline overall was handled terribly.
The focus moved alot and i don't feel it was portrayed sensitively or accurately.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Nov 24 2019, 03:48 PM

Jacob did some Brill scenes in the fri episode, its prob the only time I have felt empathy with him during the storyline.

Classic Emmerdale has been good on ITV3 they've just shown the classic plane crash storyline

Posted by: Medellíam Dec 14 2019, 12:14 AM

Just the other week I was checking out old Emmerdale clips and came to realise that Shelia Mercier was still alive at age 100. An icon in Emmerdale history, even if the show has since moved on and unfortunately forgotten its roots. Hopefully the show will acknowledge the passing on-screen and can serve a reminder of classic Emmerdale and its original matriarch.

Nates mam wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif

But the show in general atm isn’t that great. I miss the days of this being #1 soap but there’s just so much of nothing happening.

Every episode seems to feature Aaron being miserable, Moira drinking and kicking off, Nate being there saying sorry to Cain and trying to make amends. We get occasional appearances from Wendy too talking about her Lee and Brenda being as unsubtle as ever in the cafe cool.gif laugh.gif

Yet one of the only interesting characters Grahamis going and is Being killed off sad.gif

The show needs some form of shake up though where something new happens or someone else moves to the forefront of the show. Charley Webb pls come back from maternity and have Debbie involved in some serious drama! (I’m guessing though with Sarah’s drugs story that’ll be how she’s written back into the show).

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Jan 14 2020, 09:40 AM

I'm happy to have debbie off screen as she gets far too many storylines, the show does need a shake up though as I'm finding it very dragged out at the moment.Aaron is become really grating aswell.

Posted by: Liаm Jan 14 2020, 07:11 PM

This has been the worst soap for a while but I have no words for the fact they think "Aaron has a few Grindr hookups" is a storyline rotf.gif

Posted by: pippa Jan 14 2020, 07:29 PM

Bernice's exit storyline has been handled terribly.
I have enjoyed Bernice over the years and expected a much better exit for her.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Jan 14 2020, 07:33 PM

I didn’t mind Bernices exit story that much. I’m glad the door was left open and unless Liam was also leaving they had to find some way to split them up.

I don't think Debbie Dingle's miserable face is going to help things.

A better set of storylines/ producers would probably help though

Posted by: Jαsє Jan 14 2020, 09:31 PM

Yeah, sourfaced Debola can stay AWAY. Emmerdale is bad enough as it is

I can't even put into words how bad this show is now mellow.gif

Posted by: Jordan Lee Jan 15 2020, 04:59 PM

Eek.

I need some fellow Debbie fans to join me in loving her. I’m in the minority on forums it seems but at least she’s an entertaining character!

I’m confident the show will turn itself around though. Look at EE now that’s thriving but for a time that was the weakest soap I still think Emmerdale is better on the whole than what Corrie is though well there’s definitely less weak links in the cast.

Posted by: JosephStyles Jan 16 2020, 08:17 PM

I think it's been pretty good the past month or so? It's been better but I think storylines have been more engaging again. EastEnders and Corrie are better right now but Emmerdale's not that bad!

Also Debbie's not really a favourite of mine, has there ever been a more miserable character in soap lol

Posted by: JosephStyles Jan 16 2020, 08:23 PM

That said, Wendy is f***ing diabolical mellow.gif

Posted by: pippa Jan 20 2020, 03:49 PM

Once again, Charity is the best in the show.
The Rhona storyline is such a rehash of her previous storyline when thinking of moving and Jai is not capable of pulling of the drugs storyline.

I loved the actress In Casualty.

But In Corrie and this she’s basically played the same role. Mother of the bad guy and interfering grand mother. I hope they give her something meaty away from Victoria to integrate her properly into the show.

Posted by: pippa Jan 20 2020, 06:37 PM

Her integration is boringly going to come with a relationship with Bob.
I will be very surprised if it doesn't head this direction.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Jan 21 2020, 12:37 AM

I think Graham’s killer will be Andrea if it’s one of the suspects

However my other hunch was it’s Rhonas Ex Pierce.
I think that’s who he fought with when he was washing blood of his hands last week and he comes back for revenge in a shock unannounced return.

Andrea is the only suspect who fits though. The most disposable character.

People like Marlon, Charity, Jai and Kim Tate it would never be. I don’t think Jamie has it in him or Al who I think is just scheming to get Kim’s money.

Posted by: pippa Jan 21 2020, 05:03 PM

I think it could also be Graham as there was rumours last year of a return.
If not, i would think its Andrea or Al.
It clearly wont be Marlon, Paddy or Kim.

Posted by: Liаm Jan 23 2020, 09:10 PM

Did they really drag it out showing the same day from so many perspectives just for it to be f***ing Pierce, cba rotf.gif

Posted by: Jαsє Jan 23 2020, 09:16 PM

Nobody wants a repugnant character like him to return, what the actual f*** was that rotf.gif

And somebody who Graham has literally had zero interactions with...rrrrright, okay then laugh.gif

Posted by: Jordan Lee Jan 23 2020, 09:26 PM

We’re probably gonna see Pierces story tomorrow

It’s likely it was pierce who Graham attacked last week when he was washing blood off his hands. Pierce is probably only gonna be back short term as well so I imagine by around July/August time he’ll be gone again. He’s on This Morning tomorrow although not much will probably be given away in that interview as we are yet to see his reasons play out on screen

I expected it to be him. The only suspect it could’ve been was Andrea.

I take it Jamie accidentally ran over Rishi’s dog then? And Charity and Ryan took back the money he stole as well from the cliffhangers we got from them?

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Jan 24 2020, 01:02 AM

Not shocked about pierce at all.

Posted by: Liаm Jan 24 2020, 01:17 AM

I don't so much mind that it's Pierce, to get him back into Rhona's life to ruin it again or stalk her or something and ruin her chance at happiness it makes sense, but it's just so stupid that they spent a whole week exploring the different perspectives and building up motives only for it to be someone else entirely...

I also sort of feel they totally changed Graham this week at times and made him act out of character.

Like the Ryan episode for instance would he really have done that?

It’s been a good week though but how many hours were in that day for him to pee off that many people and then have them
all go off at the same time too so cliche laugh.gif

Just how many soap whodunnits end with a non suspect though I always feel like why give us suspects when it’s hardly ever someone on the suspect list. I’m guessing though all of the suspects are staying with the show and Pierce is only back for a limited amount of time (realistically he can’t really stay long term anyway). HO went at it from a different angle when they brought a rapist back with Finn but Pierce coming back and already killing someone likely shows he hasn’t changed one bit.

Posted by: pippa Jan 24 2020, 03:32 PM

I can see Pierce becoming a serial killer and he will kill at least 1 more person in the village before he inevitably is killed off.

Posted by: ElectroBoy Jan 24 2020, 07:40 PM

I've enjoyed parts of this week, however can't help but feel it would've all been better had it unfolded naturally and was just told over the week in a linear way.

The POV episodes had no real bearing on the outcome either in the end and as a result the week has felt pointless as none of the POV people actually did it. Whilst some of the bits this week have been ok, this evenings episode was hilariously bad.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Jan 25 2020, 12:41 AM

It was all dragged out and I feel most of the episodes were a waste of time. I wonder have al and pierce a connection to.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Jan 26 2020, 12:37 AM

I wonder if Pierce knows Billy.

They may have been in jail at the same time and his gang (the one he was sort of forced to join) May have been amongst the bullies in jail he mentioned. This could then lead to a connection with Al or maybe even Dawn who could find herself in a situation with another creepy / predator like male.

Also who’s our money on being the first person to be wrongly jailed for this murder? laugh.gif

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Jan 26 2020, 03:33 AM

I think andrea or Jamie possibly Jamie to make kim feel bad.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Jan 28 2020, 10:53 AM

Confirmed that Sandy Thomas will die off screen next week.

Sad news but I had a feeling it would happen as the actor sadly died last year.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Jan 28 2020, 12:10 PM

Really liked his character, especially the vulnerability he showed during the Ashley abuse storyline.

Posted by: Jαsє Jan 28 2020, 01:03 PM

Marlon being arrested is beyond laughable. Pierce's DNA would be everywhere/all over Graham laugh.gif

I'm extremely close to giving up with Emmerdale which is a shame because I've watched it non-stop since May 2014 sad.gif

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Jan 28 2020, 01:07 PM

It's all over the place at the moment and not nearly as good as it used to be.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Jan 28 2020, 07:01 PM

Free Marlon laugh.gif

Poor Marlon of all the suspects he was the least likely to actually do it and there’s no way he’d win a fight with Graham it’s basic common sense to know that i swear if anyone genuinely thinks he’s capable I’ll scream laugh.gif laugh.gif

Posted by: pippa Jan 28 2020, 07:02 PM

If people in the village turn on him and believe it initially it will be annoying and unwatchable as its beyond belief.

What an absolute crap exit for Pete it was as basic as it comes and very little thought by the scriptwriters.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Feb 10 2020, 07:34 PM

I’m glad Pete left the show alive though and got an exit where he can return realistically too.

I’m glad he didn’t commit a crime and go on the run etc. Low key though yeah it really was. He was a great character though just lost more recently.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Feb 11 2020, 01:18 AM

Ya his exit does allow a return but i think he could have had a stronger exit as it was like a background storyline he got and considering how long he is in the show and had some big storylines it was a hugely disappointing exit.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Feb 20 2020, 01:48 AM

I find it hard to believe that Kim hadn’t seen at the least seen a photo of Pierce before to point him out when he’s been at her house plus who would want that amount of money in cash very suspicious!

There was a time her and Rhona were close just seems strange although I suppose she wasn’t in the show when he was so they had to work him back somehow.

Vanessa’s cancer confirmed as a story too. Not much else exciting me rn about the show though.

Posted by: JosephInSpace Feb 20 2020, 12:03 PM

I suppose Kim may have seen a photo but I doubt she'd remember him that clearly several months later, under a different name, without showing any sort of connection to Rhona!

God this show is just a mess laugh.gif

Posted by: Jordan Lee Apr 18 2020, 12:29 AM

The show is a bit messy right now tbh and it’s probably gonna get worse.

It feels like nothing at all happens and stuff what does happen isn’t really note worthy.

I mean it’s good to have some light hearted and happy episodes like tonight’s with the wedding but it needs some spark.

Like Vanessa and her cancer story hasn’t really had an impact on me tbh. I don’t feel the way I did when it was Sinead in CS (different as I know hers was terminal) but the story’s focused more on charity than it is Vanessa and given that she’s married to the shows producer or one of them she’ll recover soon.

Then we have Dans allergy which could’ve been fantastic but again it let down and hasn’t impacted me much. I think it’s bc the actor only works well in certain roles but his daughter was appalling in the aftermath and Kerry doesn’t really work well in serious stories either. I said ages ago on a Digital Spy thread a food allergy story with a shock sudden death would be fantastic in a soap but maybe EE would do it best.

Also I have to say. Mandy Dingle sick2.gif sick2.gif sick2.gif Lisa Riley can act but that character is horrendous. I’m perhaps too young to remember her first stint on the show as I’d have been around 5 when she left but was she like this then too.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Apr 18 2020, 03:54 PM

Mandy's return is very weak, I thought lisa would have only came back for much stronger storylines.

Posted by: Jαsє Apr 20 2020, 04:36 PM

I'm done with the show. Haven't watched in a couple of weeks now

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Apr 20 2020, 08:17 PM

It's not great at all right now.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Apr 28 2020, 11:35 PM

Dawn is a really miserable character, find her very depressing, really gone off Tracey aswell, I liked her in the build up to her David relationship but she is gratting since the split.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Apr 29 2020, 11:48 AM

The entire show right now isn’t that great.

Vanessa is extremely irritating as well and given her current story you think you’d be rooting for her or feel more sympathy but the getting hammered in the pub episode was ridiculous.

Dawn had potential when she first arrived but they’ve turned into a misery and it doesn’t help she shares a lot of her scenes with characters who aren’t all that interesting aside from Billy.

Amelia has been annoying Full stop.

It started when Daz turned up a couple of years ago, then there was that whole missing storyline and was just awful throughout that. The whole of the Spencer/ Wyatt clan are really.

Can another plane fall on the village?

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Jul 20 2020, 04:04 PM

i used to like amelia but not since the whole dan isnt her father borefest.

Posted by: LJ JORD 7 Jul 21 2020, 06:42 PM

Amelia again being awful again last night taking her frustrations out on a cake!

I think they’ve kinda ran their course now her and Dan time to move on. CS is usually the worst soap for spare part type characters but Emmerdale definitely has two with those laugh.gif

Also with Andrea I’m liking this bunny boiler possessive nature she’s showed lately. It’s kinda tricky bc Belle will always be seen as the saint in this saga even though she was in the wrong going with someone married but because she’s a dingle we’ll be made to root for her but Jamie is a bit of a wimp most of the time who always looks like he’s about to burst into tears. laugh.gif hard to believe he’s Kim’s son!

On another note are we eventually heading for a Moria / Cain reunion?

Posted by: JosephStyles Jul 21 2020, 06:48 PM

I agree that Dan and Amelia are pretty much spare parts. They drag Kerry down too which is a shame as I think she's got more mileage away from them...!

ngl I love Andrea *_*

Posted by: LJ JORD 7 Jul 21 2020, 10:30 PM

Kerry and Amy are kinda lost they’ve just been there ever since that fire storyline they had around a year ago now. But I do think when it comes to it they can pull of a dramatic storyline.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Jul 21 2020, 11:00 PM

Dan and Amelia are very much spare parts and amy is the same, Kerry has potential more so than them.

Posted by: pippa Jul 22 2020, 01:03 PM

I think in large many of the current storylines are not the shows finest.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Jul 22 2020, 01:29 PM

The lock down 2 hander episodes were so bad.

Posted by: jlj Sep 11 2020, 10:56 PM

I liked tonight’s episode!

Mainly Tracy reminding Amy they’re not friends and remembering that she killed her dad (or partly did) we haven’t seen that side of her for a while so it was good to see her show that part of her personality again.

Aside from that the Malone story is getting OTT now. When Harriet moved the body as clear as a day in broad day light weeks ago and Dawn acting as un-normal as possible too. I wonder if Dawn and her history with drugs will be revisited soon though?

The Jamie / Belle story isn’t exciting me much though. It’s hard to tell who to root for actually as people like Cain are fine ones to talk he pretty much was the Belle in the situation when he got with Moira. I think low key I root for Andrea more and I liked the side of her character when she was scheming and bunny boiler like but bc it’s Emmerdale anyone who’s against a dingle will always be made to be the villain in the story.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Sep 23 2020, 11:01 PM

Jamie and bell have absolutely zero chemistry and I really cdnt buy into them as a couple and it was the same in the pre covid episodes.

Posted by: jlj Sep 24 2020, 04:14 PM

So Belle was against Jamie all along then?

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Sep 24 2020, 08:15 PM

i bet she was working with andrea for a few months now.

Posted by: jlj Sep 24 2020, 09:18 PM

I can’t wait until Kim returns! She might make the story a bit more interesting.

The way they’re going at the moment it feels like a classic who attacked Jamie. I don’t see him being killed off but right now we have Andrea, Belle, Cain, Moria and Nate all as potential suspects!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Sep 27 2020, 09:02 PM

Ya KIm is needed to make this storyline far more interesting.

Posted by: jlj Oct 6 2020, 10:41 PM

Jamie’s personality transplant over the last two weeks is something!

I always have to laugh whenever murderer Moira who let her own son go on the run for her crime gets on her high horse though.

I need Kim back!

I quite like Meena too!

Amelia’s accident was terribly done the other day.

The way she sprung in the air and then collapsed.

I mean there is literally no way anyone in any circumstance would’ve let Dan there on his own especially in a job like a mechanics where you have to be pretty fit, able to move etc. Cain might not be the best boss but that was out of character for even him to allow that. Poor Amelia I mean I do kinda feel sorry for her (she was a bit of a nightmare a few month ago always kicking off etc) but as characters both Dan and Amelia should’ve left a while ago.

I miss Amelia’s mam though she was great and deserved better than an off screen death but Dan and Amelia yeah! I think they’ve both kinda naturally ran their course.

However I am intrigued at the direction they’re putting Gabby in! I love Gabby. But what is her game. Is she thinking she’s potentially attracted to girls / Leyla or is it just because of Liam and her why she done that with the flowers.

Posted by: pippa Oct 28 2020, 12:29 AM

Amelia is a good actress but saddled with poor storylines and a boring remainder of a family.

Posted by: Liаm Oct 28 2020, 09:56 PM

The worst thing about this show rn, and there's a lot, is potentially Jamie's personality transplant drama.gif I know he's Kim Tate's son, but I liked him a lot more when he didn't act like it. He runs over Moira and suddenly he's a wannabe Phil Mitchell cba

Posted by: jlj Oct 28 2020, 11:43 PM

Jamie’s personality transplant was literally overnight as well. It wasn’t gradual or like we had signs all along he was really like his mothers son he just instantly changed in the space of a scene. It’s very strange. I mean I like Jamie as a character now he’s more like this he is a bit more interesting but it does feel strange.

It’s gonna be his downfall though. Anyone who takes on a Dingle is a bad guy. I mean Jamie is in the wrong here in a sense but Moira always acts like she’s above everyone and she’s a saint but she killed someone and let her own son go on the run for it laugh.gif laugh.gif I can’t wait until Kim returns hopefully that’s soon!

Just what direction are they taking Gabby in though! She’s an interesting character right now

Posted by: jlj Nov 3 2020, 03:03 PM

I’m really liking Moiras brother so far!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Nov 3 2020, 04:25 PM

Ya he is showing potential, not sure about the whole Vanessa thing finding out so quick and the video, interesting to see who sent it to her, wish they didnt add that, Charity can still do drama without adding the cheating part in.

Posted by: jlj Nov 3 2020, 04:33 PM

I think it’s more they needed to find a way of having Vanessa away from the village whilst not making it so that her cancer has gotten worse. It’s in charity’s character to act like that. But with the actress being a new mother it might be a while before we see her again on set so it may well just be the odd video call appearance we see of her. As for who sent the message it’s probably Jamie Tate. He’s in every other scene at the moment laugh.gif

It’s been announced that Laurel will fall pregnant with Jai’s baby but after finding out their child has Down’s syndrome she’ll decide to have an abortion. Can’t recall ever seeing this done in a soap before. Feel like it may provoke some complaints though.

Posted by: jlj Nov 10 2020, 06:52 PM

anyone else think Debbie's daughter has Ariana vibes?

Posted by: pippa Jan 17 2021, 05:17 PM

Debbie just comes with bags of misery and is sure to get huge screen time.
I would have preferred if she stayed in Scotland.

Posted by: jakewild Feb 18 2021, 10:20 PM

Kim just gives me EVERYTHING

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Apr 17 2021, 03:54 PM

The vinny and paul stuff since the death is horrifically annoying.

Posted by: JosephStyles Apr 17 2021, 04:29 PM

I think it's been handled really well - the most I've enjoyed Vinny so far and the best Mandy's been since her return too!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Apr 19 2021, 01:38 PM

Love the news of the returnee on the way,

A good way to get rid of the deadwood - hopefully she gets through quite a lot of the village before she’s caught laugh.gif

I do like her, the most interesting character in the show right now. On the other hand I can't stand Tracy and Nate scenes, I just skip them as the whining is unbearable to watch.

Posted by: Liаm Jul 5 2021, 09:46 AM

She's absolutely unhinged, I'm OBSESSED

Tracey is extremely irritating and Liv is not far behind.
Meena is going to double unhinged by the time her exit inevitably happens.

The murder scenes and aftermath so far have been incredible

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Jul 10 2021, 01:09 AM

Ya it was done well but meena dancing in the bedroom after the murder was hilarious.

Posted by: JosephStyles Jul 10 2021, 09:31 AM

Meena dancing to Toxic after killing Leanna was the most camp thing I've seen in ages laugh.gif

It's been SO good this week, Leanna wasn't a hugely essential character for me but it'll undoubtedly rock the boat going forward, and it'll give Liam something to do that isn't a cringe comedy scene.

Posted by: pippa Jul 13 2021, 11:03 PM

Leanna's death I think will open the door to Liam ending up with Bernice.
I wouldn't be shocked if Rishi or Andrea are Meenas next victims before a Christmas reveal that Meena is the killer.

Posted by: Jord Nov 18 2021, 05:42 PM

Is Meena anyone else’s favourite character across all soaps right now?

That scene with her singing Avril Lavigne in the mirror. Long may she stay. She’s so camp and clearly unhinged she doesn’t even hide it.

The scene a few weeks ago when they were doing life support on someone at the maze and she burst into singing Stayin Alive too.

We definitely need an episode dedicated to her backstory and her best friend who she killed though!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Nov 19 2021, 08:45 PM

I like Meena she is interesting even though she is completely unhinged and bonkers but she is the most interesting character they have right now in the show.

Posted by: Jord Nov 19 2021, 11:29 PM

I absolutely love Meena. She’s so camp and chaotic I think she’s really well played though she’s a divisive character for sure but I think the point of her is that she’s written as this almost camp and funny character who has this dark side what she can’t control. She’s a killer but a different kind of killer.

The main thing I wanna know with her is when does she ever work at the hospital? She’s a nurse right but she must be on annual leave every day laugh.gif

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Nov 20 2021, 06:34 PM

Meena reminds me of a film Kathleen Turner was in years agar called Serial Mom, her character was also chaotic, crazy and camp.

Posted by: Jord Nov 25 2021, 08:08 PM

More Meena mayhem tonight. Did we all see that coming?

Ben was too nice and dopey for his own good there but Meena is so chaotic and iconic.

I hope we get a dance or musical number for her to celebrate another victim in tomorrows episode.

Also looking like Liv is getting the blame for that too isn’t it.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Nov 29 2021, 02:51 AM

Liv wrecks my head I just find her so miserable drunk or sober.

Posted by: Jord Dec 3 2021, 08:55 PM

Princess the dog last night going missing and everyone except Meena rushing to go and find her was a moment laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Shes my favourite person in soap I just love her.

I take it this Dawn/Billy addition to her story though was edited when David and Victoria were suspended in real life.

Posted by: pippa Dec 4 2021, 05:04 PM

Dawn and Billy just go around in circles and I think one of them will be Meenas next victim.

Posted by: pippa Dec 7 2021, 12:16 AM

Aaron's exit feels extremely rushed and uneventful.
He was arguably one of the biggest characters in the show.

Posted by: Jord Dec 29 2021, 08:45 PM

Aaron’s exit felt rushed and not very in character. So his man dies, his sister is in custody for it so he just goes off literally straight away. Can’t say I’ll miss him though.

Meena on the other hand I will miss greatly when her story concludes. She has me in hysterics every episode a camp queen finishing off the prawn cocktail crisps just to be petty laugh.gif

Posted by: pippa Jan 4 2022, 08:50 PM

If Victoria and David were still on screen I think Sarah would be kidnapped instead of Manpreet. Meenas time on the show must be soon coming to an end and I think she will be missed by 50% of the audience.
Tracy's exit can't come fast enough and I would like her to take an extended maternity leave with Nate following her.

Posted by: Jord Jan 4 2022, 09:24 PM

Meena will most definitely be missed by me!

I just hope she gets a non death exit. Ideally I hope she gets arrested and then we see an on screen trial for her. I can just picture her outfit for court and the looks she’d give male jury members. She’s fabulously entertaining though, an icon wub.gif

Posted by: pippa Jan 7 2022, 11:53 PM

I too will miss Meena and I want her to leave alive so she can return again when she magically breaks out of jail.

Posted by: Mack. Jan 13 2022, 08:30 PM

That was some exit!

Posted by: Jord Jan 13 2022, 08:33 PM

So happy that our killer queen wasn’t killed off!

I’m hopeful when she does come back we see her jailed and she doesn’t get a death exit but I loved that ending so in character and camp. I know she’s marmite but she’s been so entertaining and I think Paige Sandhu has been amazing in the role, one of the most entertaining and funny soap killers we’ve ever seen, I’ll definitely miss her.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Jan 13 2022, 08:37 PM

Good episode and its left it open for her return which probably wont be too long.

Posted by: Jord Jan 13 2022, 08:38 PM

I was absolutely howling at her singing her best Tony/Gaga whilst serving choreography.

Posted by: Jord Feb 15 2022, 07:41 PM

Oh this is finally entertaining now Queen Meena is back heart.gif

Obsessed at her having a glamorous make over, stealing a limo, still drugging people. The most entertaining character in soap i love her. “She’s not ok Dawn I just shot her” totally sent me laugh.gif laugh.gif

The opening scene of tonight’s episode was absolutely fabulous as well.

Posted by: Mack. Feb 15 2022, 08:05 PM

So, in a village of 20 people, nobody saw Meena go into Harriet's (in the middle of Main Street) and come out with a screaming Lucas? It's not as if they were all at the wedding....

Posted by: Jord Feb 16 2022, 09:34 PM

I will RIOT if they kill off Meena. Her one liners are amazing.

Well hello to you too when she’s revealed as the limo driver
Calling Billy Silly Billy
Are you drowning in your own fluids babe?
The “say what you see line” when she showed the photo of Harriet

My favourite scene so far this week was when she was dancing and singing around the limo laugh.gif I don’t know why I love her so much but she’s so charismatic and entertaining. I’ll really miss her cry.gif Paige Sandhu best get other acting roles after this she’s a real talent.

I doubt this will be it, it's always a Thursday where things peak/happen laugh.gif I hate when they just have an anticlimax death for a villain like this, so I hope not

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Feb 17 2022, 03:53 AM

They would be crazy to kill her off as they should leave the door open for a return, totally over the top bonkers character that is loved or hated but I'm in the love corner.

Posted by: Jord Feb 17 2022, 08:25 AM

SPOILER ALERT

Meena appears in spoilers for week commencing 28th February as it’s revealed that Charles heads to the prison to visit her…

So I’m guessing tonight might feature her arrest as tonight’s the double episode night.

Posted by: Mack. Feb 17 2022, 08:20 PM

Well I was enjoying her return (after hating her before) but now it's got ridiculous, there is no way she would survive that fall, and come round with no head injury/amnesia or it seems even a scratch

Posted by: Mack. Feb 17 2022, 08:26 PM

So will Meena get assault and kidnapping charges after all that ordeal..

Posted by: Skankhunt43 Feb 17 2022, 08:31 PM

Meena is even better than Janine ohmy.gif

Posted by: Liаm Feb 19 2022, 02:21 AM

Ar Meena being imprisoned is the new Free Deirdre <3

Posted by: Mack. Feb 19 2022, 02:26 AM

Free The Woolpack One!!

Posted by: Jord Feb 24 2022, 12:30 AM

Liv who looks about 12 and Vinny who doesn’t have a pot to p*ss in fleeing for their wedding is just cringe.

Constantly miserable Chas is having a real dampener on scenes lately too. Lucy can act but they’re making her character so unlikeable at the moment by having her be in a constant mood.

They really made a mistake having a Dingle buy the Woolpack we needed fresh blood in there preferably a Dingle free zone.

Meena is still the best character in soap right now I can’t bare to face reality she is really going soon mad.gif Meena has basically saved Manpreet though before she come into the show she was completely lost and she didn’t really get any material at all now look at her
Meena to Manpreet is kinda like what Geoff was to Yasmeen. I do hope they use Rebecca as much when Meena exits the show as she’s proved to be a great actress and the character is popular too.

Also re Chloe is her dad storyline now dropped? They had this big mystery of that and now it’s not really mentioned as such.

Posted by: pippa Feb 24 2022, 12:59 AM

Meena will be greatly missed as the other storylines are lackluster at the moment.

Posted by: pippa Mar 22 2022, 01:30 PM

Marlon wouldnt be a character I would normally praise but last night's scenes with him having a stroke were powerful and I felt it was really happening, superb scene delivery.
I am interested to understand what the pre symptons were as I had not picked up on any, did anyone else?

Posted by: Mack. Apr 15 2022, 11:18 AM

Yes the soap world will remember you, Meena for definite. Last night's episode was definitely memorable to say the least.

Posted by: JosephStyles Apr 15 2022, 11:25 AM

Last night's episode was ridiculous on every level and I absolutely LOVED it cheeseblock.png

Posted by: Mack. Apr 15 2022, 12:05 PM

Probably the most ridiculous episode in soap history, but very memorable. Maybe Meena to come back for the 50th anniversary later in the year?

Posted by: Jord Apr 15 2022, 12:27 PM

Paige Sandhu better clean up at the British Soap Awards.

She’s absolutely smashed the part of Meena, I’ll miss her so much cry.gif

Posted by: Skankhunt43 Apr 15 2022, 12:59 PM

It would have been much better if she'd got away with it, like Janine!! The whole soap thing of, women must pay for what they do - but men like Phil Mitchell neeeever do  - is antiquated fantasy.

No wonder Emmerdale Farm does bettee than EE with these mad storylines

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Apr 15 2022, 02:46 PM

Paige Sandhu is an excellent actress but the trial im not sure if i loved it or hated it, the ending was complete bonkers and as unrealistic as it could possibly be but removing that it was entertaining I THINK.

Posted by: frank james Apr 17 2022, 06:02 PM

Thursday more than made up for the 3 trial days which were pretty disappointing apart from the end scene on Tuesday. It should have ended on Thursday although we would have missed out on the end scene on Friday.

Posted by: pippa Apr 18 2022, 07:14 PM

I am surprised Meena is still appearing in episodes.

Posted by: Jord Apr 18 2022, 07:56 PM

Meenas final episode (for now..) was tonight.

I’m going to miss her so much. Paige Sandhu has been the standout star on not just Emmerdale but across all soaps the last few years so I’ve no doubt she’ll be in high demand. So relieved that soap killers getting a non death exit has become a thing now first Gray and now Meena (although with Meena we seen her trial and sentencing). What an exit she got though, I think it was the right one.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Apr 19 2022, 08:37 PM

Paige is undeniably a great actress and she will be missed, the court case stuff was fine but i did prefer her work just before she was caught out.

I've got a feeling she won't win anything. She hasn't got much chance winning Leading Performer as if she even makes the shortlist the other contenders will have their storylines rammed down throats by the time voting closes while her storyline has finished.
As the public don't get a say on Best Villan, It might go to Gray as he is a more conventional villan.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Apr 21 2022, 06:21 PM

Sometimes I would prefer for all awards to be voted by the public.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever May 13 2022, 10:56 PM

Anniversary week has been really disappointing, big let down,, but Emma Atkins who plays Charity has been great, I've always thought she is one of best actresses in soap.

Enjoying Classic Emmerdale on ITV3

Just reached the wheelie bin saga on the episodes i'm catching up with, now they're common place in Society today
and lol at the scene where Viv falls into one i remembered that from first time round

Just watched the one where Angie Reynolds dies in the car chase

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Dec 21 2022, 01:00 AM

I remember watching that Viv scene, never understood why they axed her and pretty much replaced her with Brenda but Viv was much better, Deena was understandably a bit bitter about her axing and also her exit.

Peter Martin has died at the age of 82.

The actor, best known for playing Len Reynolds in Emmerdale and Joe Carroll on The Royle Family, died on Wednesday morning, with a friend confirming the news on social media.

Posted by: Mack. May 18 2023, 11:40 PM

Actually felt sorry for Nicky at the end. The actor is also a lot better in his scenes with Caleb than he is when he's acting with other actors.

Steve Halliwell, known for his long-running role as Zak Dingle in Emmerdale, has died at the age of 77.

Tonight's episode was a complete gut punch. Hats off to the Emmerdale team for delivering their best episode in a long time, and the actors who play Bob and Brenda finally being given something substantial to work with after so long has paid off. Really excited to watch the aftermath, so much potential and I think we're in for some of the young stars' best performances so far (Cathy and April notably).

Posted by: Jord Jan 1 2024, 09:33 PM

Definitely didn’t see tonight’s episode going that way but I do think it’s going to give some much needed story time for those characters you mentioned Joseph!

Always like it as well when the Dingles aren’t front and centre I think that’s how the Meena storyline (completely different to this story ofc) did so well.

Hoping that Cathy’s actress isn’t recast though as her and the actor who played Heath are actually twins in real life.

Posted by: pippa Feb 11 2024, 08:31 PM

Is anyone enjoying the Rhona storyline?
I want it to end as Rhona lead storylines always work out to be very depressing.

Posted by: JosephBoone Feb 11 2024, 08:38 PM

Anything with Rhona at the centre is generally great I find, because Zoe Henry is one of the finest talents they have! I'm finding this storyline interesting so far, probably going a little OTT but that's soapland I guess.

Huge shoutout to Louise Jameson too, who steals every scene she's in with the warmth she brings to the role of Mary. One of the most essential characters in any soap right now!

Posted by: JLJ Feb 11 2024, 08:54 PM

The character of Ruby is so high camp and I think I’m going to bed obsessed with her laugh.gif

Posted by: pippa Mar 10 2024, 03:47 PM

Chas botoxed to the hilt for her new storyline laugh.gif
Her character was absolutely destroyed with the Al storyline and everything associated with it.
It leaves it hard to emphasize with her now as a result.

Posted by: JosephBoone Mar 10 2024, 04:02 PM

Lucy Pargeter is such an asset to the show, I think she's played it so well that somehow I'm back on Chas' side after the character assassination of the Al storyline. Lucy and Emma Atkins have had Emmerdale on their back for years cheeseblock.png

Posted by: pippa Mar 10 2024, 04:07 PM

Emma Atkins is superb actress and it's disappointing she hasn't won more awards over the years.
Ruby is a good asset to the show right now and an interesting character but the return of Kerry is a not her again moment as she is totally pointless as is Amy. These characters and Vanessa are like hamsters on a wheel going round and round doing the same thing.

Posted by: labeh Mar 10 2024, 04:45 PM

The creative decisions surrounding her character's narrative arc involving the Al storyline and its associated elements effectively undermined and devastated the integrity of her characterization.
