After 8 years of waiting, it looks like the first single from Robyn's upcoming album will finally be released next week! The above artwork apparently appeared on a download website earlier today, with a release date of 1st August, before being removed.

I can't wait to hear what she comes up with, Body Talk was such an incredible collection of songs (and my personal favourite of her releases), so waiting for a follow-up for so long better be worth it!

Posted by: dandy* Jul 25 2018, 05:36 PM

OMG OMG OMG. Must breathe.

Posted by: Doctor Blind Jul 25 2018, 05:44 PM

Well this has cheered me up immensely, definitely looking forward to some new Robyn solo material!

Posted by: Juliano Jul 25 2018, 06:05 PM

I'm happy!

Posted by: gavindeejay Jul 25 2018, 06:14 PM

At last! Welcome back queen!

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Jul 25 2018, 06:19 PM

The prospect of another full-length album from her seems too good to be true. 8 DAMN YEARS.

Can't wait for this anyhow!

Posted by: Midge Jul 25 2018, 06:37 PM

I was totally not expecting this!

Please be good...

Posted by: dandy* Jul 25 2018, 06:50 PM

She often seems to hold the most commercial thing back to second release so I’m not sure what to expect.

Do we know who she’s been working with?

Posted by: Cremey Jul 26 2018, 12:28 PM

There’s a 30 second clip out there now. Sounds v Dancing On My Own / could easily fit on Body Talk which is certainly no bad thing. So good to have her back.

Posted by: Theo. Jul 26 2018, 12:46 PM

The full song has leaked! PM me for a link.

Posted by: gooddelta Jul 26 2018, 01:08 PM

It's classic Robyn. I thought she might go with something a bit more out there as the lead but I don't mind that she didn't. That chorus is looping around my head already and the production and her vocals are really lovely/heartbreaking as ever.

Posted by: Jonjo Jul 26 2018, 01:50 PM

I like this, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed. I feel that it doesn't go anywhere and is pretty much the same thing all the way through the song. Hopefully it grows.

Stunning production as per though.

Posted by: Liаm Jul 26 2018, 02:02 PM

Agreed, definitely classic Robyn and it's nice to have her back but I am a tad disappointed sad.gif It'll probably grow though as it's quite subtle rather than hitting you square in the face first listen.

Posted by: dandy* Jul 26 2018, 05:43 PM

The way it ends, is that a suggestion that it could sequence into the next track a la Confessions?

Aside from that aspect which threw me slightly, I was going to say that it would make a nice album closer.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Jul 27 2018, 09:38 AM

Been tirelessly searching for this since yesterday evening, still can't find it. Really frustrating!

I think that might just be because it’s a leak and not the official version? I’m guessing it was cut a bit early and the final one will have a more definite ending, otherwise I’m hoping what you say is true, would love that.

I’m liking this a lot and it’s great to have her back but it’s not as good as I’d hoped. I’m glad in a way that she hasn’t switched up her sound because it works so well but it’s also a bit of a shame that it’s so similar.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Jul 27 2018, 10:00 AM

It's a really beautiful, haunting song.

Posted by: blacksquare Jul 27 2018, 02:38 PM

This is incredible and it's just so lovely having her back.

It feels like a continuation of Body Talk, and I imagine she'll push it further and play with her sound more on the album.

Posted by: Theo. Jul 30 2018, 11:48 AM

So this will be available to stream and download from 2pm BST today!

I really like it after a couple of listens. I agree with the above comparisons to the Body Talk era, particularly Dancing on My Own but that's not a bad thing in my opinion. 8 years is a long time for any artist to be away for, particularly one not as "mainstream" as Robyn so hopefully it will act as a reminder to any casual fans.

I hope Radio 1 get behind her though, this deserves to be at the very least a top 40 hit, if not more.

Posted by: blacksquare Jul 30 2018, 01:06 PM

Still not out until Friday.

Posted by: dandy* Jul 30 2018, 04:38 PM

I’m intrigued to see if Radio 1 will her support her or not. They’ve always been good to her previously but I wonder how long they can keep that up for when the hits haven’t been there.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Jul 30 2018, 04:47 PM

To be honest, I think Radio 2 are more likely to support her than Radio 1.

Havin said that, the song is premiering on Annie Mac's show as the Hottest Record, so perhaps!

(though it's not a 100% guarrantee, Annie Mac had Liam Gallagher last year, but R1 never playlisted him).

I think it mostly depends on whether her being 'cool' is able to outweigh her age, unfortunately.

Posted by: blacksquare Aug 1 2018, 07:22 AM

Posted by: Cqmerqn Aug 1 2018, 07:50 AM

I don’t think Radio 1 will go anywhere near her unfortunately

Although if she did get playlisted, I imagine it will be C-C-C-OUT

Posted by: gavindeejay Aug 1 2018, 08:28 AM

It’s very Dancing On Own which is no bad thing, but is it what we’re expecting from Robyn as a comeback?

I think the likes of Annie Mac will play it, not too sure about daytime.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Aug 1 2018, 09:00 AM

I remember Radio 1 didn't playlist 'Indestructible' after 'Hang With Me' (undeservedly) flopped, but then playlisted 'Call Your Girlfriend' which surprised me.

I know she's very well favoured in the 'cool'/indie circles but it has been over 7 years since that last single now. Intrigued to see what happens!

Posted by: Hans Aug 1 2018, 09:58 AM

Did they playlist any of her work with Royksopp? ("Do It Again")

Posted by: gavindeejay Aug 1 2018, 10:21 AM

Call Your Girlfriend was play listed very late, I think in 2012? I don't think they play listed her collaboration with Royksopp, but I believe it was played in the evening specialist shows.

Mid-2011.

Posted by: Doctor Blind Aug 1 2018, 11:35 AM

Robyn's last hit “Do It Again” (it squeaked in at #75) was ignored by Radio 1 - so I'm very doubtful of support sadly, but no doubt Annie Mac will support it.

Posted by: Popchartfreak Aug 1 2018, 12:09 PM

Radio 2 have Cheat Codes, Rudimental, Miles Kane, Sam Smith on their playlists, along with veterans and country acts - I'd say Robyn would be Radio 2 and nowhere else these days, sadly, unless she's guesting on other more recent acts...

Posted by: gavindeejay Aug 1 2018, 06:21 PM

Annie Mac is making a big thing of the new Robyn track as the hottest record tonight. She kicked the show off by playing Dancing On My Own and With Every Heartbeat back to back

Posted by: SKOB Aug 1 2018, 06:30 PM

It's not on Spotify yet WTF

She's Swedish and all...

Posted by: blacksquare Aug 1 2018, 06:39 PM

Album is also being mastered and released this year.

Posted by: Steve201 Aug 1 2018, 07:02 PM

Posted by: Hans Aug 1 2018, 08:27 PM

Well this is a nice track on first listen although it hasn't captured me like a lot of her tracks usually do on first listen.

Posted by: Riser Aug 2 2018, 05:54 AM

I'm absolutely loving this, it was totally worth the wait. It's much more similar to Body Talk than I was expecting, but that doesn't bother me.

Posted by: dandy* Aug 2 2018, 07:55 AM

So this is growing as expected. Can we discuss the artwork though? I mean what and why on Earth?

Posted by: Bjork Aug 2 2018, 07:57 AM

not wowed (yet), sounds like if they took all robyn hits and mixed them together in a pot

Posted by: blacksquare Aug 2 2018, 08:06 AM

I have read some complaints about this, which honestly confuses me. People moaned that she veered too far (experimented) from what she does best with her EP's... And now she is back with a song that is the epitome of that classic Robyn sound and people are still unhappy...

I wouldn't be surprised if Missing U is both an ode to her fans, Christian Falk, and a bridge between Body Talk and the new album.

Agreed- I don't think she could have pleased everyone given the expectations, however personally I am really loving it and it is everything I wanted and more. Robyn just does fantastic melancholic dance pop, and this whinging is killing me.

Posted by: Hans Aug 2 2018, 04:31 PM

Everything you wanted and more? I love Robyn - one of my favourite pop acts of the millennium - but is it just me that feels this song just doesn’t go anywhere? It doesn’t ever get out of second gear.

Not that I don’t like it but it’s hardly a Robyn classic and I’m inclined to think a proper big release is around the corner and that this is just a palate cleanser. Which it will do as.

Posted by: Jade Aug 2 2018, 04:54 PM

Oh this is gorgeous on first listen, those synths! wub.gif so good to have her back properly.

Posted by: Liаm Aug 2 2018, 04:59 PM

I agree, it *is* probably that the standards were SO high anything she did was gonna take a while to settle in but it's not totally hitting me just yet. It's lovely and all but it isn't grabbing me and making me want to go back again and again.

I disagree massively. She's experimenting with structure (it reminds me of LCD Soundsystem for that) and the lack of a 'second gear' is clearly intentional. It's more of a journey than trying to get to some massive final chorus.

It's more intense and mournful than her usual crying on the dancefloor bangers. The focus seems to be more on her delivery (which builds and changes, as if she is singing to herself) and the lyrics.

it’s a song that speaks to death and the loss of that follows so succinctly

it’s an urn and it’s speaking of robyn’s experience of death (christian falk, time etc)

the white tone of it speaks to looking forward and not back, a positive look forward

the ending pause of 8 years and looking forward

Posted by: Jüpiter Aug 2 2018, 10:10 PM

I can't believe how she changed her look and it WORKS. The slightly longer hair, honey blonde, Annie Lennox vibe. She's not even that old either I was working it out today, she's a fair bit younger than Sia and age hasn't stopped her doing anything in recent years.

40 really is the new 30.

I think the fact Sia hasn’t really shown her face to the public and has had young dancers starring in her videos says quite a lot about ageism in pop, sadly.

Not to discredit her at all - it's impressive how she's continued to get a string of hits.

Posted by: blacksquare Aug 3 2018, 06:21 AM

Posted by: Klumzee Aug 3 2018, 08:19 AM

Happy to see Robyn back and super excited for another album campaign! Missing U is pretty good but to me it's lacking a bit of a punch that I've come to expect from Robyn. I know a lot of posters have said it's intentional but it'll just take a bit of time to get used to something a bit more 'plain' from her instead.

Posted by: Cremey Aug 3 2018, 08:38 AM

Posted by: Hans Aug 5 2018, 11:54 AM

2nd best ever? Oh come off of it. Obviously you're entitled to your opinion tongue.gif But! You have to get past the mammoth epicness of "With Every Heartbeat" and "Dancing On My Own" before you even consider the rest of her rather excellent back catalogue.

Posted by: blacksquare Aug 5 2018, 06:58 PM

She’s performing on Radio One tonight.

Potential playlist?

Posted by: danG Aug 5 2018, 07:32 PM

I expect it will be playlisted. R1 clearly love her and the song is very much up their street.

Posted by: Eleni Aug 5 2018, 07:45 PM

They playlisted Lily Allen’s flops, so I’m sure they’ll playlist this!
