Everyone prepare yourselves for more Ed Sheeran domination because he's apparently http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/ed-sheeran-plans-experimental-release-for-2019-to-clear-the-air-after-three-successful-albums__23753/, supposedly it will be "experimental", similarly to his No. 5 Collaborations Project EP from 2011, and as such it won't be his actual fourth album but something to fill the gap.
Oh and he wants to do a song with https://www.nme.com/news/music/ed-sheeran-dying-collaborate-drake-2372193. I can already hear the collective groans of the whole of Buzzjack as that song effortlessly spends 9 weeks at #1.
Ugh, go away!!
no please
already the most underrated songs of 2019
Thought he would be releasing his next album in 2020 titled -
I don't actually mind Ed Sheeran aside from his Divide stuff, so if it's a step away from that I'm not dreading it quite as much.
I enjoy Ed, however, i was positive Divide would get a re-release in this coming quarter.
"Chart Killers"- Ed Sheeran and Drake teaming up. Not even ACR or Jess Glynne could stop that being number 1 for at least 6 months.
Well I'm here for a 2019 update of the No. 5 Collaborations Project EP, that was my first introduction to Sheeran and I really rate it. Would like to see him collaborate with UK acts though vs. US rappers - I have a feeling he will so long as the label don't have too much direction in this 'experimental' release.
Giving this a bump now we know the name of the album.
Hopefully there will be some interesting up and coming or lesser known artists on this, not just other huge stars.
No.5 Collaborations Project was actually really interesting, with loads of UK rap and grime artists, I remember enjoying it a lot at the time it came out (which was maybe 8-9 months before The A Team blew up) but I imagine this will be a far more mainstream exercise. Would love to be surprised though.
The OP of this thread describing this as 'experimental' is kind of hilarious in retrospect after the lead single was... about as far from experimental as you can get.
This seems to be full album length so I'm guessing it is his 4th album after all? Unless it's marketed as a 'mixtape' or something
A 15 track EP. That term has really lost all meaning...
'Antisocial' is with Travis Scott, the song already leaked a while ago apparently.
Antisocial is with Travis Scott, a demo leaked a while ago under the name 'Dont Touch Me'.
One of them has both Camila and Cardi on too someone on Camila's team tweeted and deleted it.
I really hope we get some UK artists on this and not just big US acts - think of what it could do for the UK scene to feature on a high profile project like this!
It’s an album to me.
EPs mixtape album though don’t they all chart on the main albums chart nowadays.
I’m presuming this will chart on the main albums? The Weeknd did with his last year which was only 6 tracks.
I’m excited for this in a way to see whos on there and if there’s any surprise collabs on there.
I’m not as Anti Ed as most forums are but I’m not a huge fan either.
I fully expect he’ll have the top 3 or at least three of the top 5 singles the week this drops as well as having the highest debut sales of a 1 album of the year too.
I imagined the collaborators were gonna be revealed with the pre-order but they aren't as fas as I can see
it's 100% an album
wonder if the collabs thing is an strategy to avoid the 3-track rule? maybe this way he can get away with more songs charting
Lol no, only 3 songs from this project will be allowed to chart at any one time. Ed is still the lead artist on all the songs.
but knowing how inconsistent the occ is, I wouldn't be surprised if a few slip in
David Guetta got 4 in the chart once iirc? He was "joint-lead" on one of the entries but that should still count.
Linkin Park was also an exception to that ('Numb/Encore' not being allowed despite Jay-Z being the first artist listed).
There's a South of the Border registered under Ed on ascap and is written with Steve Mac and Fred Gibson
Feels is registered on BMI with writers Young Thug, Ed and Valentin Blavatnik
Just saw a fake tracklisting and I believed it until I saw one feat. Take That and Camilla Cabello
I'd be up for that tho
I read there's one with Bruno Mars, which is kinda believable
The whole thing is definitely fake - most of the names don't even fit in the black spaces.
A Take That collaboration would be wonderful.
https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/ed-sheeran-wanted-to-recreate-lady-marmalade-with-justin-bieber-and-bruno-mars-on-his-new-album__26421/

5. Best Part of Me feat. YEEBA
6. I Don't Care w/ Justin Bieber
7. Antisocial feat. Travis Scott
8. Remember the Name feat. Eminem & 50 Cent
9. Feels feat. Young Thug & J Hus
10. Put It all On My feat. Ella Mai
11. Nothing On You feat. Paulo Londra & Dave
12. I Don't Want You feat. H.E.R.
13. 1000 Nights feat. Meek Mill & A Boogie wit da Hoodie
14. Way to Break My Heart feat. Skrillex
15. Blow w/ Bruno Mars & Chris Stapleton
Way to Break My Heart and Blow are the ones really interesting me!
Ed Sheeran doing a song with Meek Mill and A Boogie wit da Hoodie is something I could never have predicted!
the tracklist from hell
I’m here for tracks 1,2 and 14 and 15.
I’ll give the entire album a chance though.
Ed’s not THAT bad tbh.
VERY intrigued by the tracklist, I already know the Khalid and Travis Scott songs will be amazing. Eminem & 50 Cent has a lot of potential too so long as Ed isn't just on the chorus like he was for River
I wonder if we'll have another song out this week?
This is gonna be trash to the highest degree
Watch it sell like 20% of what Divide has
Camila and Cardi on one track! *.*
The inevitable Latin crossover on track 11, but an interesting twist on it having Dave on the same song somehow.
There are a few on there that look potentially interesting (Ed, Young Thug and J Hus all on one song *_) but I already hate the idea of the Khalid song inevitably being the biggest hit from the album when it drops.
Also where did this YEBBA come from? Sneaking her way onto star-packed albums first by Mark Ronson and now Ed Sheeran as well. And this album was meant to be a bunch of people Ed is a big fan of apparently. Bit of a random choice!
I wish we had that fake tracklisting now...
. Beautiful People feat. Adele
2. South of the Border feat. Emeli Sande & Tinie Tempah
3. Cross Me feat. Chance the Rapper & PnB Rock
4. Take Me Back to London feat. Clean Bandit
5. Best Part of Me feat. Anne-Marie
6. I Don't Care w/ Justin Bieber
7. Antisocial feat. Travis Scott
8. Remember the Name feat. Eminem & Will.i.am
9. Feels feat. Take That & Camila Cabello
10. Put It all On My feat. Bruno Mars
11. Nothing On You feat. The 1975 & Martin Garrix
12. I Don't Want You feat. Tom Odell
13. 1000 Nights feat. Bastille & Steve Aoki
14. Way to Break My Heart feat. Foxes
15. Blow w/ Marshmello & DNCE
Just realised it got Eminem correct... (and Travis, but that demo leaked a while ago)
Hoping Camila / Cardi track is the next single.
We’ve had two male collabs already plus River is still fairly recent.
It’ll also pick up streams bc both Cardi and Camila do well on Spotify.
Hmmm a lot of it seems very samey then with most of them featuring rap artists - was hoping it would be a lot more varied than that
It is hard to predict how this album will perform.
I feel it is an album but not the follow up to X, am i alone in this thinking?
I'm not fan of Ed's at all but I'll check out Ella, Camila/Cardi
Why did he have to dig 50 Cent up from the dead?
Mixed feelings about the tracklisting. I’ll be giving the ‘album’ a few listens when it comes out for sure, just hoped he was going to collaborate with some more UK names (rather than US ones) - e.g., Skepta, Giggs, Stefflon Don. Great that Stormzy, Dave and J Hus all feature on this high profile release though, should do wonders for them (although Stormzy is headlining Glastonbury...)
Yeah I think it's safe to say I'm basically not here for this era.
"Best Part of Me" will also be out alongside "Blow" tomorrow.
Blow is WOW
It’s... Rock? I’m getting like 80s/90s rock supergroup vibes. So incredibly not what I was expecting but I love it already
Best Part Of Me is basically Ed on autopilot. Sounds ok but nothing special.
'Best Part Of Me' is boring! Most defiantly my least fav from this project so far!
What are people thinking this will sell?
I’m gonna go for around the 180K mark for week one.
Big sales but not catastrophic like Divide.
Very likely he’ll get the highest streaming sales so far too!
Does Lewis currently have the highest streams of the year to date for week one or is that Ariana?
I think it will sell enough to enter the best selling albums of the year chart around Number 7 on its debut week which would result in 180,000-185,000 sales.
Streaming, most likely will gain the album a huge advantage.
The whole album leaked yesterday and I've listened to a few of the album tracks:
The one with Eminem + 50 Cent is really good, and the Stormzy one is decent as well. Worst one I've heard is with Young Thug and J Hus - really bland.
Only heard south of the border and it’s a bop!
Every song has been given an individual single on Spotify which is a nice touch.
South Of The Border is IT and I do not care *.*
Apparently there's a pop up store open in London today selling exclusive Ed Sheeran Merchandise. Din't know where it is, but Island Records have put it on their social media this morning.
I really like the Ella Mai track!
Enjoying this Album a lot on first listen the only ones that are a bit bland for me are the Shrillex one and Best Part Of Me,
A decent album indeed on first listen.
South Of The Border and Remember The Name are both good and sound big, and Put It All On Me is really nice.
Also still really liking Cross Me and Beautiful People. There are a few fillers towards the end which I'd have left off but the first two thirds are very strong.
The intro to Put It All On Me sounds a bit like Becky Hills I Could Get Used To This
The worst one for me is the Eminem one and that is the one charting the highest tf. everything else is wonderful
We may be lucky and get sales information via the press over the course of the weekend.
I absolutely love the Em track, not what I expected at all. The Skrillex, Stormzy and Travis Scott tracks are all good.
Thought a few of the later tracks were a bit bland.
That Eminem/50 Cent song is garbage
'South of the Border' is perfect for the summer
I knew the Eminem track would be the highest but it’s not that great tbh.
South Of The Border and Blow were my favourites. Watch them both not chart at all though!
None of the songs is challenging #1 on iTunes. I'm surprised tbh.
South of the Border is very good! It's also basically another version of SOY but Camila sounds amazing on it.
Yeah I am liking this as well, lots of different sounds used as opposed to very safe Ed Sheeran which is usually released. Must say I think the Stormzy track is probably the highlight.
Only just had the misfortune of being exposed to 'Beautiful People'. The lyrics...
I genuinely loathe him.
I tried listening but it's beyond bad, the lyrics are getting worst and worst... there's no quality control at all
he needs someone to tell him, look this one is shit, write something better
sometimes I have to go and doublecheck the lyrics online cos I think it's impossible he wrote such crap... like in the Stormy one
can't believe he sings "Grossed half a billion the Divide Tour " :/
I don’t get all the hate tbh
Not heard the album in full yet (will be this weekend) but South of the Border is EXCELLENT, easily better than any of the singles!
So according to Mint Royale on Twitter, this is unsurprisingly leading for number one on the albums but not with the gigantic sales people would be expecting.
'South of the Border' is probably the worst thing he's ever done, but I quite like 'Beautiful People'.
Don't know which one to put on TOTW Antisocial, Take Me Back to London or Remember The Name?
Antisocial as it’s the single?
I'm really loving South of the Border and Take Me Back to London. Still need to listen to the rest of the album.
When I did the track of the week I would just choose the single
Will do
HDD predicts 170k opening in the US, that's pretty low! Will be #1 of course.
UK wise it’s predicted to be #1 but not with huge sales.
I’m surprised tbh I thought he’d easily get the biggest first week sales of the year to date.
I do feel that his next solo album will perhaps fair better albums wise though.
A lot of the tracks on this are like huge sounding singles but not what would push an album.
Tbh it’s doing great he just has a very big sales track record so it’s an underperformance.
170k in the USA doesn't seem that bad relatively speaking - the same dropoff from the debut of '÷' in the UK would put him at around 250k and he's clearly not gonna do anywhere near that. And that's with his singles making a lot less impact in the US than they did here as well.
(although I don't know if he has some kind of shady bundling going on to bolster his sales like 80% of other albums do in the US)
He will very likely do a lot better again when he drops another more traditional album, this is really more of a 'mixtape' than an album.
Dunno, it's kinda both. I mean the promo is definitely on par with "a proper Ed Sheeran album": first single with Bieber, great push on streaming outlets, music videos, pop up shops around the globe. But it doesn't really "feel" like an Ed Sheeran album, just random songs out there.
Listened through to this in full for the first time today, and wow - what a bore/chore. It just feels like he’s purposefully trying to reach too many markets with this album, and just marketing it as ‘experimental’.
Someone may have mentioned it already in this thread, but part of the instrumental to “Put It All on Me” is a complete rip-off of Becky Hill’s “I Could Get Used to This”.
Leads for number one on 63.5k. Be interesting to see if this clears even three digits by week's end?
It should, JUST, depending on how big portion of the first bunch is pure sales. Was there a pre-order thing of some sort?
I think 101k or sth by Friday.
The reason why this isn’t selling as much is that the music isn’t calculated like Divide was to appeal to all ages. When Ed released Shape of You and Castle On the Hill that wasn’t for any other reason but to appeal to a young and old audience. The older Radio 2 audience don’t have a Castle on the Hill on this album it’s full of rap songs and Shape of You copies with features that again don’t appeal to an older audience. When Ed releases his next proper album that will be massive but only if he waits for a couple of years and disappears like the last time and build up the hype again.
I like ed Sheeran myself but this album wouldnt appeal to me, his next album will hopefully be back to his usual style, the album isnt aimed at his usual fans so I dont think it's anything to worry about.
Who are "the usual fans" of Ed Sheeran? Why IDC and BP wouldn't work for "usual fans"?
I want to know because it's interesting. IDC is exactly like Shape of You as a song and BP is the most least offensive pop single that one can get for airplay in 2019.
It's true that there are not a song like Perfect on the album but there ARE, however, songs like Shape of You and Castle on the Hill on it. And his lyrics haven't changed a bit.
Maybe for some they don't want him to collab with artists who are "unknown" to them
On the contrary, there are songs dominated by the likes of Meek Mill, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Skrillex, Young Thug and J Hus. Do you think the average buyer of Perfect would like these artists?
And even in the movies, an all-star cast only do little impact on the records overall except for some like Avengers etc
Maybe Ed Sheeran either doesn't know his fanbase then or don't care?
It's not like this is comparable to the jazz album Gaga made with Tony Bennett (someone mentioned it in the chart forum) - that was a separate project and nothing like she had done or has done since.
To me this is just bunch of Ed Sheeran tracks with urban leaning guests.
Yeah I wish there was a song like Castle on the Hill on it
They're on the upcoming Westlife album
Anybody else getting 'NASA' by Ariana vibes from Anti-Social? Every time that staggered drop happens I always burst into the chorus of 'NASA'
Overall, I liked this album more than I thought I would. A lot of the songs blend into one for me but there are a couple that stand out. South of the Border, Cross Me, Remember the Name, Take Me Back To London and BLOW all stand out to me, especially BLOW.
I also hate that I Don't Care has grown on me
Decided to listen to all of the songs on here just out of interest, the quality is a bit inconsistent but chopping off some of the filler there is a very solid EP hiding in there. 'Cross Me' is still probably my fave but I'm really liking 'Antisocial' straight away (and the video for it is pretty funny as well, his videos this era beyond the 50p budget one for 'I Don't Care' have actually been really good) and 'Take Me Back To London' and 'Nothing On You' are my other highlights from the songs not already released before the album. The only big disappointment really was 'Feels' as I thought the artist lineup on that one looked pretty good but the song is very bland and I don't like the chorus at all oops. 'Remember The Name' also had potential but I'm not feeling it too much, I didn't have super high expectations though after how terrible the last Ed & Eminem collab was (it is at least better than that ) meanwhile the tracks with Ella Mai and H.E.R. were actually both surprisingly decent.
I’m not sure of the need for the remix but it seems to be helping him be on course to nab yet another #1. I prefer the original version though.
TMBTL might be his worst ever song for me. Lyrics are so cringy
It is on track to become another number 1 hit for him.
Electric chair!
I’m quite liking this Sir Spyro remix actually, this was the kind of track I was hoping for from this project, the original didn’t quite do it for me.
Following his final Divide show in Ipswich, Ed has confirmed he will take a break from music for 18 months.
So look forward to a new #1 from him in early 2021!
Ed Sheeran takes a break from music = we will have dozens of features and songs written by Ed Sheeran.
Taking a break doesn't mean he has to stop writing altogether, hence him writing songs for other people...!
Also doesn't mean this era is over yet considering how he's got this far on no promo
He’s actually only confirmed a break from touring and live shows so yeah the music will probably continue
He also said that "this might be the last loop pedal gig".
Which doesn't surprise me - I remember hearing an interview recently where he said he wanted to bring a full band on tour (for songs like Blow).
Hasn't his Divide tour been going on like forever anyway?
Still laughing at that word "experimental" in the subtitle
He’s releasing two new songs in November from that Yesterday film that he was in. They are called Penguins and One Life. He’s performed them a couple of times over the past couple of months on his tour.
Out of the two I think this is the number 1
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=n7EucHhVnBY
There will probably the RE-RELEASE of No.6 with those two tracks then?
Of course that's nothing to do with promoting anything.
I doubt they'll re-release No. 6 seeing as these are solo tracks - and from a movie.
It'll probably it's own EP.
Seeing that those tracks are already known and have been performed they might not be as in demand as an heard track if he’s releasing two tracks then.
South Of The Border and BLOW are by far the two best tracks on this though. Which probably means they won’t do anything
"South of the Border" HAS to be the next single after "Antisocial"/"Take Me Back to London" surely?! It's still holding up well on streaming platforms behind/amongst the singles.
I wonder which track he'll use, to try and get a Christmas #1.
Probably the Yesterday track
Best Part of Me or Way To Break My Heart are the only ones which feel like they could be Christmas #1s to me, but I agree there’s probably a bigger chance he’ll push the soundtrack single or even skip out on promoting any singles after TMBTL
Cheat Codes remix of South of the Border out tomorrow
Video tomorrow too maybe?
FFS!!!!
Why push a remix of it the original is perfectly fine as it is.
He is super obsessed with charts it seems! Can't be without number one even for a week.
Yea it's by far the best song but has also been already on several playlists so interesting if the remix is the default version to be pushed.
I don’t think the remix is actually being pushed. I hope its not anyway because it’s not very good.
All singles have had a remix of some sort. The furthest a dance remix of Ed’s is going to go is on the Heart/Kiss playlists it’s not getting a ‘push’.
He’s probably pushing it properly so he can have a song on the playlist of ILR stations, Radio 2 and Heart who are not playlisting TMBTL.
South of the Border definitely needed to be a single!
South of the border remix is a BOP
Wow, I'm actually looking forward to an Ed Sheeran video! Quite liking the remix, I've had it stuck in my head all day!
This will perform strongly in the charts.
Sorry, but "South of the Border" deserves to be a huge hit!
"deserves"
why? cos it has lyrics that could have been written by a 13 year old even if he's nearly 30 and includes the more idiotic cliches ever about Spanish women...
Why didn't you write his songs then and become a global superstar?
I really don't blame him
i love her but taylor pretending to not know how that works when she released 4 almost-identical box sets for her fans to buy to manipulate the charts is a reach.
A stupid comment from Taylor Swift considering how her recent release was pushed.
Ed is def on here somewhere if he loves the charts that much - this is the ideal place to find out those types of things!
C List on Radio 1 and in at #40 in the charts today. It’s coming *.*
I liked the video, more could have been done though.
I really liked the video. This project has been far more enjoyable than Divide aside from the horrendous I Dont Care
I wonder if this will be the long-running hit in the autumn for him. Good video this from him.
'Take Me Back To London' managed the first ever 1-13 fall, I believe.
This is an actual bloody bop
His best since castle in the hill
Camilla’s best too
'South of The Border' having quite the climb, up 16 places to a new peak of #24.
Looks strongly positioned to give both another Top 10 hit, and possibly Top 5.
'South of The Border' managing to go Top 10 for him/Cabello/Cardi B by climbing to #7.
No Love For The Lonely (feat Ariana Grande) has been played to death on Australian radio today, it was an unreleased song but is now on Spotify as a Podcast so I reckon it’ll be released officially v soon
Wow, this must be his plan for Christmas number 1.
Bit strange to release it as a podcast. He still has the two songs from Yesterday to come out which must be coming out in the next couple of weeks as the dvd is released then.
why was excluded from the album? would have been a much better lead than IDC or the song with Khalid
but not sure if they're gonna release it now that the song with Camila is about to go top 5 and could even be #1 when Dance Monkey goes on ACR
its becoming a chart/sales manipulation now...
Seems to have been removed from Spotify now
It was likely an unofficial release, other artists have seen their leaked material added to Spotify as podcasts recently too.
Haha yeah it’s been removed now! Quite funny really when it was “first played” on the radio here earlier and they were saying “this is the first time ANYONE in Perth has heard this new song!” and now it’s basically been retconned I do wonder if maybe he’ll release a deluxe edition or something and push that as the single for it
that's possible cos the song sounded 100% like a super hit, and Im more of an Ed hater than an Ed fan these days
but the podcast I heard it from was an Ariana podcast, not an Ed podcast, and had lots of unreleased Ariana songs I didn't know
a duet with Frank Ocean... and a song with Guetta, actually that football song that ended up with Zara Larsson on vocals...
Christmas is coming, he could easily do a Deluxe version to give a push for stocking filler sales and also get Christmas #1 with the Ariana collab, annoying everyone on Buzzjack for stopping Mariah.
that would really start the Ed backlash if she dares to deny Mariah the Xmas #1
'Start'
'South of the Border' becoming the fifth song from No.6 Collaborations Project to go Top 5 then. With a new peak of #4.
From an OCC article regarding Ed Sheeran recording a new album:
No.6 Collaborations Project has closed the sales gap on Lewis Capaldi by a further 2k this week.
Little, separating them now.
Can someone PLEASE change the subtitle of this thread because every time I see it, I grimace and cringe - there is nothing experimental about this era at all!?
Well it may have been experimental in its own way.
Put It All On Me now has a video
Good single choice!
Ella Mai and Yebba should be a lot bigger.
Ella Mai has couple of big hits and a gold album in the US, the UK are just bizarrely ignoring her.
It is bizzare like!
Eds recent social media post states he’s going on another break!
So likely no new music from him for a while!
Which means until Q4 of 2020 lol
Probably Q4 2021 then, they'll want his comeback to be huge imo!
Yep. Another social media silence means another end of an era.
- is next.
Why does he need to *announce* a break? Most artists naturally have one between albums anyway
hope it's a true break and doesn't even do features or
even songs written by him for others
Ya he needs to just be completely out of the limelight for a while now.
I think it’s still ok if he writes for other artists during that time as he isn’t really in the limelight in those scenarios, rather than just the odd mention here and there
He’ll still be in the charts for the next month or so anyway as we have “Own It” likely to re-peak this week and hang around.
MK Remix of Antisocial is out now
The original of Antisocial is pretty great, but that remix takes pretty much all the life out of it
I do think he should release another single from the album
I think the albums done well enough that another single wouldn’t really be needed.
The best song on the album is BLOW but it’s not very commercial sounding for Ed. I think it would’ve been a single by now though if it was gonna be one.
Cant see any more singles coming and in time the album will easily go 3x platinum.
he went on his social media hiatus earlier this year so that was confirmation that this era is done.
Don't listen to 'Perfect' then xo
