BuzzJack Music Forum _ Madonna _ Artist Forum Contest: Should have been a single

I am delighted to announce that
Our first contest is happening very soon and the best part of it is YOU get to decide what each forum's entry will be! The mods of each participating AF will be holding national finals in each of their forums over the next month before we all meet up in the Girls Aloud forum for the grand final! We've also decided to select a theme for the contest and that theme is... Should've been a single!
Madonna's known for her incredibly strong singles discography but that's not been without leaving behind some absolute gems on the way.
We'll use this thread to put forward suggestions and we can get a poll up for the most popular choices, unless an agreement can be reached here without that.

Tbf I think the whole album is of single-worthy material, it's just some stand out more than others. I adore 'Let It Will Be' though, especially the bat-shit-crazy performance she gave on tour. High-kicking and stumbling about; it's a hot mess but works so well and only Madonna could pull that off!
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Plus most of the other AFs are for artists who are mainly Noughties focused and I'm not sure if some of Madonna's older album tracks, as great as they are, will hold up against what other AFs have to offer. That, and the fact it's more of a recent thing that Madonna's really gone wrong with picking singles.
Exactly - as important as it is to pick something we collectively as Madonna fans love, it's important that we pick something non-Madonna fans will like and I think 'I'm Addicted' is a good shout for achieving both. Most agree that it should have been a single, more specifically the lead; it's quirky and highly energetic; and has enough Madonna qualities about it. 'Devil Pray' is quite similar in that respect, just with a slow pace.

As much as I'd have liked 'I'm Addicted' as lead single, could you just imagine if 'Gang Bang' was the first thing we had heard from the MDNA album?! Holy f*** that would have got me hyped!

Ooh, interesting choice in 'Push'! It's usually most people's (and mine) least favourite on the album.
I was thinking about 'Rebel Heart' too, but only if it was the original demo version which is just so euphoric. The album version is great, particularly as a closer, but not strong enough as a single.

Yes indeed, I was specifically thinking about the Rebel Heart demo, if that's allowed, as it's not official. I do think the demo could stand a good chance of winning as the production is quite Robyn/Girls Aloud.
I love Push <3 I think it's possibly quite an accessible song too that maybe sounds more like a single than some of the others on COADF, so might do better in an AF contest where more subtle deep cuts might struggle.

I'd guess it wouldn't be allowed, unless a demo was available in studio form or something (like as part of a rarity collection). I can remember it being the first song to leak from the album and everyone was so hyped for the album because of it; I just hope she didn't change it just because of that leak though. Speaking of demos, Stuart Price's' Confessions Tour version of the 'Erotica' demo, 'You Thrill Me', is absolutely magical and sounds like a smash to me.
I love it to but it's very unfortunate to appear on such a high standard of album - definitely a case of 'least favourite' than 'worst song'. It is a very accessible song but, at the same time, I don't think it packs enough punch to be a single.

I just listened to the first 5 or so tracks on MDNA (what a start to an album <3) and I am growing more and more inclined to submit all my support to 'I'm Addicted'. I mean I MUCH prefer the likes of 'Forbidden Love', 'Sky Fits Heaven' and 'Devil Wouldn't Recognise You' but in terms of "missed single" opportunities, 'I'm Addicted' SCREEEAMS lead single for this album so it could be perfect for this spin-off.

Yeah, this make sense to me - at least with those three personal favourites, it's not like the songs that were chosen as singles were rubbish or weren't up to the job, whereas the MDNA choices were so wrong and things could have turned out a lot different if something like 'I'm Addicted' was released, so yeah, definitely what you'd call a 'missed opportunity'.

(I guess I'm Addicted fits the theme more of the two though, for me at least with the point Liam raises - I love Devil Pray, but I love Ghosttown even more)
