I suppose 2002 to the near the end of 2006 between the eurotrance, retro/funky house and looped 80s remixes was also mostly dominated by rather cheesy, fun dance and it probably had had its time and everyone wanted dance that could be taken more seriously, hence electro becoming so popular. Cheesy dance music would of course return in 2008 though! The retro house and eurodance wasn't quite finished yet, though as we shall see soon on this thread with our next two dance number 1s, and the last top 10 80s remix that sadly doesn't make dance number 1. There are also a few eurodance and retro house hits in early 2007, although electro definitely dominates in the chart. |

Electro did feel a bit tired for me by the end of the noughties, it was certainly the genre I heard the most in London clubs during this time - dubstep began arriving at the end of the decade but peaked in popularity at the start of the next.
Up north and Eurodance seemed much more popular, to the point where I had to travel up to Birmingham to see some Clubland/Hard2Beat acts as that was the furthest south in the country they were performing! |

 Date: 3rd December 2006 Weeks at #1: 2 weeks Official Chart Run: 19-3-2-5-8-6-6-7-10-14-13-15-18-24-28-36-41-51-50-54-61-75-71-91-88 (23 weeks top 75 +2 top 100) You might be surprised to learn that "Boogie 2Nite" was originally by American R&B artiste Tweet from her debut album "Southern Hummingbird" which spawned the UK Top 10 hit single "Oops (Oh My)". The track was remixed by British DJ Seamus Haji, and this remix was then re-recorded by British duo Cherise Richards and Nadia Shepherd - formerly of Big Brovaz, now known collectively as Booty Luv. The remix of the Tweet original had been a club hit, but was never given a full commercial hit. "Boogie 2Nite" peaked at number 2 in the UK Singles Chart on its third week of entry, matching the recent peak of Bodyrox's "Yeah Yeah" and continuing the strong presence of dance music at the top of the chart. It went on to spend a colossal 23 weeks (5 months) in the top 75. The video for the track features the pair around large cocktail glasses, lipsticks and disco balls making it very clear they are ready to go out, have a dance and a laugh! Signed to Hed Kandi, the duo would go on to have one further top 10 hit "Shine" - a cover of a Luther Vandross track, and three top 20 hits "Don't Mess With My Man", "Some Kinda Rush" and "Say It". "Boogie 2Nite" has been a pretty regular feature in my DJ sets even a decade on, it's very well known and a great track to get everyone moving. |

The video posted is the one I remember, but I think there was a completely different mix around as well that soundtracked a few music channel plays?
Booty Luv possibly one of the more embarrassing acts I saw live, in 2009! To be fair their hit-making career was surprisingly long, surely no one would have predicted they'd have a top 20 hit every year for the rest of the noughties... |

Boogie 2Nite is a bit of a choon, not all too familiar or keen with their followups though - definitely one of those "one-hit wonders" who actually had several hit singles.

Boogie 2Nite is a fantastic tune, the buildups in particular are brilliant.
It was also one of the last big 80s/retro inspired funky house tracks of the 00s. Liked it at the time, but saw it as more R&B/pop than dance back then for some reason. Way better than the previous dance number 1, Put Your Hands Up For Detroit, as it has more atmosphere and vibrancy for me. Also making the charts around this time #23 Very ahead of its time, a garage influenced deep house track a bit reminiscent of Disclosure's style of music in 2013. I think its a very good tune. Like the vocal, this year we had a similar sort of style of jazzy house track with Drake/Black Coffee/Jorja Smith's Get It Together make the charts so this sound is still very relevant. I do love a bit of Booty Luv. I didn't realise Boogie 2Nite had such an impressive chart run. It's a shame album #2 never materialised, after the strong start with album #1. I was hoping Black Widow (2012) was going fair better than it did as I think it got a bit of radio/music channel support. This Night is a tune also.
